Welcome to Kalos

Inside a hotel room in a place called Ambrette Town, Lincoln was resting comfortably on a bed while the man that found him on the beach he washed up on was on a chair.

"Where did you come from?" the man asked Lincoln while a doctor who was in the room was looking him over.

"I see no injuries, skeletal or internal, so he should be okay, Professor Sycamore." said the doctor. "But he has signs of dehydration and I doubt he's eaten anything in a while." Just then, Lincoln starts to stir, getting the attention of the two men.

"He's waking up." said the man now known as Professor Sycamore. A few seconds later, Lincoln's eyes open and he slowly sits up.

"W-What happened?" asked Lincoln as he rubs his head.

"Are you okay, young man?" Professor Sycamore asked Lincoln, getting his attention.

"Umm, who are you guys?" asked Lincoln. The doctor walks over to the nightstand next to Lincoln's bed and grabs a pitcher of water and pours some into a glass.

"You must be thirsty after your ordeal." said the doctor as he hands the glass to Lincoln.

"Thanks." said Lincoln as he reaches out and grabs the pitcher out of the doctor's hand and starts gulping down every last drop of water in it.

"He really must've been thirsty." said Professor Sycamore. After Lincoln finished drinking all the water in the pitcher, he hands it back to the doctor, then takes the glass he had and starts drinking all the water in it as well.

"Thanks. I needed that." said Lincoln.

"So, what happened to you, um, I never got your name." said Professor Sycamore.

"Oh, my name is Lincoln Loud." replied Lincoln.

"I'm Professor Sycamore." said Professor Sycamore. Lincoln then explained to Professor Sycamore about how he and his family were on a boating trip, how the engine on the boat broke down, and how they got sucked down a whirlpool. "And that's all I could remember before I woke up here."

"It's fortunate you were able to survive, Lincoln." said Professor Sycamore.

"Did anyone else wash up on shore?" asked Lincoln with hope in his voice.

"No, we only found you." said Professor Sycamore. "I could only hope the rest of your family is okay."

"Me, too." said Lincoln. He looks out a window in the hotel room and saw a dark blue, bird like creature with a white underside and red markings on its chest and forehead, and a yellow beak, hovering front of it. "Whoa, what kind of bird is that?"

"That's a Taillow; a normal and flying type Pokemon." replied Professor Sycamore.

"Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.

"You don't know what Pokemon are?" replied Professor Sycamore.

"Never heard of them." said Lincoln.

"I guess you're not from a Pokemon region then." said Professor Sycamore. "You see, Lincoln, Pokemon are mysterious creatures that exist throughout most of the world. As a Pokemon Professor, it's my job to uncover the mysteries of Pokemon; right now, I'm currently trying to figure out the mysteries of Mega Evolution."

"Do these Pokemon get along with people?" asked Lincoln.

"Pokemon usually do, but some wild ones might attack if they feel threatened." Professor Laventon replied, making Lincoln a bit nervous; his stomach suddenly growls.

"Is it okay if I have something to eat?" asked Lincoln.

"Of course." said Professor Sycamore. Twenty minutes later, Lincoln was eating food he hasn't seen before; but because of the fact he hasn't eaten in two days, he wasn't really picky at the moment.

"You should wait until you get enough of your strength back before you go walking around on your own." suggested the doctor.

"Okay." said Lincoln.

"And I'll try and find out if any other members of your family washed up on the shoreline somewhere." said Professor Sycamore.

"I'll come over to check on you also to see how you're doing, young man." said the doctor.

"Thanks." said Lincoln as he lies his head back on his pillow to get some rest. Outside the hotel where Lincoln's room was, Professor Sycamore and the doctor were discussing what to do next.

"I'll let you know about his condition every day." said the doctor.

"Thanks, doctor." Professor Sycamore replied. As the doctor goes off somewhere, Professor Sycamore looks up at the window of the room that Lincoln was resting in.

"What am I supposed to do with him?" Professor Sycamore asked himself before he leaves to take care of other business.

Meanwhile, back in Lincoln's hotel room, Lincoln's mind was filled with much worry for his family.

'I hope my family is okay.' Lincoln thinks to himself. 'Where did they end up if they're still alive? What am I going to do here in this new land once I recover enough to walk about? I don't have any cash on me. I hope that Professor Sycamore guy has some idea of what to do with me.'

For the next two days, Lincoln would get up and walk around his hotel room to see how far along his recovery he was. He looked at his device he had in his pocket, but much like his family's devices when they washed up on the island, it was damaged, so calling them was out of the question.

Professor Sycamore stopped by daily to check in on him to see how he was doing. He has tried to make contact with Lincoln's family, even after being given their address and phone number, but he hasn't had any success.

Lincoln was starting to believe that the worst-case scenario of what could've happened on Lake Eddy did happen and that he was the only member of his family left after that incident; he spent several more nights crying over that possibility.

One day, after Lincoln fully recovered after his ordeal, Professor Sycamore decides to bring Lincoln to a place called Lumiose City to figure out what to do with him.

"Ready to go, Lincoln?" asked Professor Sycamore.

"Yes, sir." said Lincoln with a depressed look on his face.

The two exit the hotel and start making their way through Ambrette Town, with Lincoln taking in the sights; hasn't seen much except what he could see from his room's window.

As they walk, Lincoln sees a building with a red roof on it.

"What's that building?" asked Lincoln, directing Professor Sycamore's attention to it.

"That's a Pokemon Center." Professor Sycamore replies. "It's a facility that specializes in the treatment of Pokemon."

"Do people do stuff with Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.

"Some keep them as companions, some use their unique talents to help with all sorts of tasks, and some have them battle each other." said Professor Sycamore.

"Battle each other?" asked Lincoln with concern.

"Oh, don't worry; it's a Pokemon's nature to battle." said Professor Sycamore. "It's practically a Pokemon trainer's duty to bring out a Pokemon's potential."

"Wow; sounds like something I'd be interested in." said Lincoln. "But I don't know much about Pokemon."

"Well, there is a Pokemon school in Santalune City." said Professor Sycamore.

"But I don't know if I can pay for tuition." said Lincoln. "I didn't have any money on me when I was on that boating trip with my...family."

"Perhaps I can help you with that." replied Professor Sycamore.

"You don't mind doing that?" asked Lincoln.

"Yes; you've been through enough already." replied Professor Sycamore. "And it would be good for you to know about Pokemon while you're here."

As the two head up a road north of Ambrette Town, Lincoln notices a small, ball-shaped object that was red on one half and white on the bottom, along with a black stripe dividing the two with a button on it, lying on the ground.

"What's this thing?" asked Lincoln as he picks up the object.

"That's a pokeball." explained Professor Sycamore.

"What's it for?" asked Lincoln.

"It's where people keep their Pokemon in." said Professor Sycamore.

"Can Pokemon actually fit it this?" asked Lincoln, examining the device now identifed as a pokeball.

"What's amazing about pokeballs is that it turns Pokemon into energy and compresses them enough to fit inside them." said Professor Sycamore. "Push that button on that pokeball, Lincoln." Lincoln does so and the ball grows to the size of a softball.

"Whoa; cool." said Lincoln.

"Some trainer must've dropped that; trainers sometimes misplace their supplies." said Professor Sycamore. "But I assume there's no Pokemon in that pokeball."

"How can I tell if there is?" asked Lincoln as he examines the pokeball in his hand.

"Try tossing it." said Professor Sycamore. As Lincoln does so, a blue, bipedal Pokemon with small arms, a yellow lower jaw, and thick gray ridges on its head that reach down its back, comes running out of some nearby grass and steps onto the spot where the pokeball was going to land; it hits the Pokemon which suddenly turns into a red mass of light that gets sucked inside.

"Whoa!" said Lincoln as he witnessed what just happened. He and Professor Sycamore watch as the pokeball wiggles a few times before it clicks.

"I don't believe it." said Professor Sycamore with astonishment.

"What?" Lincoln replied.

"You just caught a Pokemon." said Professor Sycamore. "Normally, trainers would have to battle a Pokemon to tire it out to make them easier to capture."

"So, what Pokemon is this?" asked Lincoln after picking up the pokeball and looking at it.

"I'll tell you after you let it out; remember; to do so, you must toss the pokeball." said Professor Sycamore. Lincoln does as instructed, and releases the Pokemon. Professor Sycamore reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a small, red, square device with a black circle in the center surrounding a transparent blue circle.

"What's that?" asked Lincoln, pointing at the device.

"This is a pokedex; it's basically an electronic encyclopedia containing information about all the Pokemon in the world." said Professor Sycamore. He holds it towards the Pokemon; it opens up, revealing a transparent blue screen and an image of the Pokemon appears on it.

"Bagon, the Rock Head Pokemon. Its well-developed neck muscles and iron-like head can smash boulders into pieces." said the pokedex.

"Cool." said Lincoln.

"This also gives information on the captured Pokemon." said Professor Sycamore; he looks at the information on Bagon. "This says your Bagon's a boy, he knows Rage, Bite, and Leer; he has the Rock Head ability which prevents him from receiving recoil damage from moves that causes it."

"Uuuuh." said Lincoln with a confused look on his face.

"I'm sure you'll learn everything you'll need to know at the Pokemon School." said Professor Sycamore. "To return a Pokemon to its pokeball, you need to point the button on it at the Pokemon." Lincoln holds out the pokeball towards Bagon as instructed; a red beam shoots out of the button and onto Bagon, turning him into red energy and pulls it in.

"Awesome!" said Lincoln.

"Well, let's keep going." said Professor Sycamore.

Lincoln has stepped into the world of Pokemon. What adventures await him in this new land? Wait and find out.
