Blood And Bridges
Chapter 71
As the two left the office Lucas started to remember why he hadn't liked showing up here.
"Were you just trying to make me look bad? Despite all of that."
"I loved you." Lucas questioned. Once they got in the car.
Brooke looked to him. "Was i supposed to focus on my feelings or yours? This was my chance to share about my point of view in our marriage."
"This wasn't about you. It was about me."
"You are going to have to get over being hurt by my honesty."
"You weren't the husband i needed for a long time."
"But i stayed in it. Because of my love and dedication to you and our marriage. Along with wanting to give our kids what we didn't have."
"I have no regrets about that."
"But i can't help but wonder if you do."
"When i brought up Peyton you reacted. I saw you're face."
"Was i supposed to gloss over that.? Or not mention it."
"Just because you say nothing has happened between the two doesn't mean i'm supposed to believe it." Brooke admitted.
Lucas glared at her. "Jake wants you. But plays it off like this friendship is innocent." He replied.
"I have no romantic feelings or attraction to Jake. You can't say the same about Peyton. Don't start this."
"I don't want fight. I'm tired of that. I want to be happy. In love. Settled." Brooke proclaimed. Making her way towards her car. Realizing taking seperate cars was the right idea.
...
Jake Jagielski knew after the encounter with Lucas in the hospital it was never going to change between them.
But Jake's breaking point was finding birth control pills in his daughter's room.
He knew what this meant. And he realized his daughter and Simon Scott were getting way too serious.
Putting distance between them was the right and needed decision.
...
"We need to break up. I can't run away. I almost died."
"My family was falling apart during all that."
"I can't put them through anything else." Simon explained.
"So you don't love me." Jenny replied.
"Of course i do. But we have the rest of high school and college to get through."
"If we're supposed to find each other again we will." Simon replied.
"I'm in love with you Jen. Don't be upset with me."
"Try to understand please." Simon said softly.
"I wish we never knew each other at all." Jenny replied. As she stormed off.
"Someone told me once. Every song has a CODA, a final movement. Whether it fades out or crashes away, every song ends. Is that any reason not to enjoy the music?" A voice said.
The expression on Simon's face softened.
"She hates me. I don't know what to do with that." Simon replied.
"My name is Peyton. That hurt. And loss you're feeling."
"I have the perfect thing to make it go away." Peyton said.
What was it about this bridge that drew people here. Peyton wondered. As she stared into the eyes of that innocent hurt young man.
She almost felt guilty about what she was going to do. But then again. Lucas had hurt and disappointed her for a long time.
So maybe now it was time to even the scales.
"Let me help you feel better Simon." Peyton insisted.
"How do you know my name?" He asked.
Peyton smiled sweetly. "You're dad and I are old friends." She replied.
