Kazuya joined forces with the members of the Hestia Familia to help them settle into their new surroundings and turn it into a cozy and inviting home. They all worked hard, putting in their time and effort to make sure the Hestia Familia felt comfortable and could find their place in this new setting. The people from the Serket and Hephaestus families were especially important in this project. They took on the challenge of transforming a rundown chapel, which had obviously seen much better days, into a stunning dwelling that everyone could take pride in. The Serket Familia brought a wealth of experience in home renovations, having remodeled many homes along Daedalus Street. With Kazuya and their group's unique skills and resources, they were well-prepared to take on this important charitable task.
As the days went by, the once-negative image of the Serket Familia began to fade. It became a memory that no longer affected them as it once did. Kazuya had now reached level two and was actively helping Bell on his journey to level up, hoping that Bell would soon be as strong as he was. They regularly ventured into the dungeons together, working systematically to defeat various monsters. Kazuya's freezing powers proved to be extremely useful, often making it easier for Bell to land the finishing strikes and earn the valuable last-hit bonuses that came with each kill. To Kazuya, the first level of the dungeon seemed quite simple, and the loot dropped by the monsters wasn't very exciting. Still, he helped Bell by automatically collecting all the items that fell from the defeated creatures. Bell found it amusing when Kazuya reminded him that he also had this ability, playfully saying that Bell had apparently forgotten about it for a moment. This quick collection of items and monster cores helped them move forward much faster.
When they made it to the second level of the dungeon, Bell had to admit that they were gathering a nice collection of treasures. The items they found might be enough to either renovate or completely replace some of the old furniture in the Hestia Familia's home. Kazuya began to imagine ways to upgrade the kitchen and bathroom so Hestia could enjoy a long, relaxing bath, surrounded by comfort. Throughout their adventures, Kazuya noticed the growing bond between Bell and Hestia. This development brought a wave of nostalgia over him, reminding him of how his own feelings for his goddess, Serket, had blossomed in a similar way.
However, everything changed dramatically when they reached the fifth level of the dungeon. To their surprise, the two companions discovered that there were no monsters present at all. It felt like a strange silence had taken over, and it seemed as if all the creatures had either been defeated in previous battles or were cleverly hiding, pretending to be dead. This eerie emptiness suggested the presence of much stronger monsters that had somehow found their way to that level, which was unusual for this particular dungeon. Typically, monsters stayed on the floors where they originated, so if some had indeed moved up, it meant that something extraordinary had occurred within their ranks, stirring up a troubling mystery.
Suddenly, their moment of bewilderment was shattered when two massive minotaurs emerged before them. This appearance was completely unexpected, as minotaurs were typically found much deeper within the dungeon's treacherous depths. Their presence on the upper floors left Kazuya and Bell bewildered, and they realized they had to act quickly. Without wasting any time to ponder this strange occurrence, the two minotaurs lunged forward, treating Kazuya and Bell as their next meal with relentless intent and fearsome aggression.
In the heat of the moment, Bell glanced at Kazuya and urgently asked why he wasn't using his freezing ability. Kazuya responded that he had been employing his power from the very start, but it had only succeeded in slowing the minotaurs down. Despite the freezing effect, the minotaurs were pressing forward with alarming determination. Kazuya felt that if he had not been using his ability, they would have already met their demise. It was as if the minotaurs were doing something equivalent to a heightened state of awareness or battle readiness, a thing far beyond what they were accustomed to.
"This is insane, Kazuya! We can't take them on like this. We need to split up and take them down individually," Bell declared urgently. His voice was filled with both determination and fear. He suggested that Kazuya head down the left corridor while Bell would take the right. They agreed that whoever managed to defeat their respective minotaur first would return to assist the other. Kazuya understood the plan, but he couldn't shake the concern that either passage could lead to a dead end, a common trap lurking in the dungeon. Despite his worries, Bell insisted they had no time to waste debating their options; having a plan was far better than standing still without hope. They needed to act quickly if they wanted to improve their chances of survival.
With resolve, Bell sprinted down the corridor on the right side, feeling a surge of adrenaline coursing through him as he ran for his life. It was almost as if Kazuya's fears had cast a shadow over their situation, and those worries soon proved to be justified. The minotaur was indeed hot on his trail, and Bell quickly realized he had backed himself into a corner. There was no way to escape—he was trapped between the massive, horned beast and the solid stone wall behind him, with no exit in sight.
Most people in a dire situation like this would be paralyzed with panic and despair, but Bell managed to hold onto a glimmer of hope in his heart. He secretly wished that Kazuya could handle the other Minotaur, providing him with a chance to escape this nightmare. Desperately, Bell lunged forward, his daggers ready, determined to defend himself. He aimed for the Minotaur, attempting to slice off both of its horns. However, these daggers were not his usual weapons; they were temporary blades he had been stuck with. Hestia had commissioned a new weapon for him, an upgrade crafted by the renowned blacksmith Hephaestus, but it had only recently become a reality as she had finally gathered enough money to make that possible. Unfortunately for Bell, that meant he was temporarily left with these lesser-quality daggers, and he hoped they would be enough to give him a fighting chance.
The situation was undeniably grim for Bell. The daggers he had relied upon were proving to be significantly less effective than his trusty knife, which he had always preferred for such dangerous encounters. Despite the less-than-ideal weapons, Bell found a burst of courage as he managed to break off the Minotaur's horns. This act not only caused the monstrous creature a great deal of pain but also ignited a fierce anger within it. The cavernous corridor rang with the Minotaur's furious roar, a sound that echoed ominously around him. In the heat of the battle, Bell realized that both of his daggers had shattered completely due to the sheer force of the encounter. Left with no weapons, he instinctively reached down and grabbed the broken horn that had just clattered to the ground. It was a desperate move, but he hoped it might serve as an improvised weapon in this critical moment of survival.
Before he could even think about defending himself with the horn, the scene shifted dramatically. The Minotaur, which had been moments away from attacking him again, suddenly halted right in front of Bell, creating a tense pause in the chaotic battle. In an astonishing twist, a figure emerged out of nowhere, delivering a powerful blow that sliced the Minotaur cleanly in half. The sudden violence caused blood to erupt from the creature's severed body, spraying over Bell and soaking him in thick, warm liquid. The chaos left him momentarily stunned, a mix of shock and disbelief coursing through his veins. However, amid the whirlwind of events, Bell felt a surge of relief washes over him; he was still alive, having narrowly dodged a much worse fate.
As Bell sat on the ground, struggling to process what had just happened, a bright smile appeared on the face of a newcomer who had just intervened. She turned her gaze toward him, concern etched on her features as she softly asked if he was okay. Yet, Bell found it hard to focus on her worry. Instead, his thoughts raced in a completely different direction. Panic began to set in as he feared for the safety of his friend, Kazuya. The notion that Kazuya could have faced a terrible fate while he was wrapped up in this fight began to consume him. If they were alive, he reasoned, surely Kazuya would have come looking for him, ready to assist in his time of need. The idea that Kazuya might have killed the other Minotaur and then abandoned him to fend for himself felt unbearable.
Consumed by a rising tide of panic, Bell scrambled away, his legs moving rapidly as he retraced his path back to the beginning of the corridors. Each step felt heavy as dark thoughts wrapped themselves around his mind, filling him with dread about what might have happened to his companion. When Bell finally arrived at the familiar spot where their journey had begun, he was met with an unexpected sight that ignited a wave of fury within him. There was Kazuya, casually chatting with two adventurers as if nothing had occurred. They seemed at ease, engaged in friendly conversation as if they were enjoying a leisurely day in the park.
A rush of anger surged through Bell as he marched up to Kazuya, his expression fierce and accusatory. "You bastard, you left me to die, didn't you? All just so you could flirt with these two adventurers! How on earth did you manage to defeat that other Minotaur quickly enough to have time for this?" Bell's voice trembled with a mix of betrayal and confusion, his demand for answers cutting through the air.
Kazuya, caught off guard by Bell's sudden outburst, looked back at him with an expression of genuine bewilderment. After a moment, he replied, "What are you talking about? I used my keyblade to defeat the Minotaur. It was really straightforward to take it down like that. Did you forget that we have keyblades? Or how to summon them?" The confusion in his voice only added to the complexity of the moment, leaving Bell to grapple with the conflicting emotions swirling within him.
At that moment, a powerful realization struck Bell like a lightning bolt. In the chaos of the moment, he had completely missed a crucial detail that, under normal circumstances, would have been glaringly obvious. The anxiety that had clouded his mind caused him to forget about the one tool that could have dramatically altered the course of his predicament.
Suddenly feeling a strong sense of urgency, Bell understood that he needed to escape the dungeon quickly. He was anxious about the possibility of saying something to his friend Kazuya that he might later regret. Embarrassment mingled with frustration, pushing him to sprint toward the entrance of the dungeon. As he raced through the streets, the people around him gave him odd looks. Some struggled to suppress laughter, while others simply looked amused, clearly entertained by his messy appearance, still marked by the remnants of his recent battles.
His thoughts raced even faster than his feet. Bell had finally figured out the identity of the girl who had, in his eyes, he knew would kill the minotaur that otherwise would have been his kill. He was eager to level up, and now her interference had robbed him of that chance. He pushed aside the humiliation that came from Kazuya's teasing comments, redirecting his focus toward obtaining the answers he needed.
In the distance, he spotted his dungeon advisor, Eina, who was struggling to balance a large stack of papers in her arms. A wave of relief washed over him as he hurried over, driven by a determination to gather information about that impressive blonde girl who had effortlessly defeated the minotaur. "Miss Eina, could you please tell me everything you know about Ains Wallestein?" he asked, slightly out of breath.
Eina turned to him at the sound of his voice, her eyes widening in shock as she took in Bell's blood-stained appearance. A startled scream escaped her lips, and Bell felt a rush of embarrassment wash over him. After a long day filled with adventure and danger, he realized he desperately needed a bath. Eina was quick to coax him into cleaning up and changing into some spare clothes he had stored in his inventory, but even then, the image of his earlier disheveled state lingered in his mind.
"Ains Wallenstein," Eina began after she managed to regain her composure, "is one of the strongest members of the Loki Familia. Her numerous skills and accomplishments have rightfully earned her the title of the Sword of Orario. She's five levels higher than you, which is not surprising at all, considering the Loki Familia is known for excelling in dungeon exploration and monster hunting. But why are you asking about her? Don't tell me you've developed a crush on her like so many other guys!" Eina's teasing tone lightened the mood as she continued, "And seriously, what happened to you to end up looking like this?"
Bell paused for a moment, taking a deep breath to organize his thoughts before he began sharing his recent experience. Alongside two friends from a nearby Familia, he had ventured into the dangers of the dungeon to hunt monsters. They were prepared for challenges, but nothing could have prepared them for the surprise that awaited them on the fifth level: not just one, but two minotaurs. This encounter was both a rare and perilous situation, raising the stakes far beyond what they had anticipated. Bell felt a flush of heat in his cheeks as he recalled Eina's earlier joking suggestion about romance. He shook his head slightly; there was no way he could label his feelings as love. Instead, he felt a deep glee that had clouded his mind, stemming from the fact that someone had interfered with his much-desired kill, much as he expected.
"Bell, how many times do I need to remind you that adventurers don't seek adventure just for fun?" Eina said, her voice adopting a tone that mixed concern with a hint of exasperation. "You really need to consider how fortunate you are. It's quite an achievement for a level-one adventurer like you to survive a battle against a minotaur. While it may seem unexpected, especially with the rivalry between Loki and your goddess, I urge you to be more cautious in the future. I'm not telling you to quit being brave, but please, don't scare me like that again! The thought of you not coming back alive is unbearable for me, so promise me you'll think about my peace of mind, okay?"
As she spoke, her smile was bright and warm, showing a mix of worry and true care for his well-being. Bell could sense the weight of her concern deeply and nodded in response, fully understanding the heartfelt words she was sharing with him. There was a genuine connection in that moment, one that made him feel seen and cared for. Meanwhile, Kazuya finally arrived at the guild building, eager to find Bell engaged in conversation with his dungeon advisor. He was surprised to see Bell had taken off so suddenly. Being the main hero in their story must have brought him immense joy, perhaps too much joy that it led him to act impulsively.
As Kazuya approached the counter where the items from their recent dungeon run were to be turned in, he placed a sizeable pile of monster cores and other treasures he had collected during their adventure. The clerk who was receiving these items raised an eyebrow, a hint of annoyance in her tone as she asked why it was that a member of the Serket Familia always seemed to bring in such an overwhelming amount of items and cores. She meant it when she said they always did this, and it frustrated her. Didn't he realize that processing so many items at once would take almost the entire day? She urged him to be more considerate and suggested he should limit the quantity he turned in.
Kazuya felt taken aback by her harsh words. It struck him as unfair, almost as if she painted him to be an inconsiderate person. He wanted to explain that they had only explored down to the fifth level of the dungeon. If they had pushed further down to the tenth level, the load of items and materials brought back would have been much greater. With that in mind, he promised he would only turn in one-third of what he had collected, thinking it would be more manageable for the staff. The clerk did not expect this level of compromise from Kazuya. She had heard countless negative remarks about the goddess Serket, which made her approach him with a harsher attitude. Other Familia members often told her that the Serket Familia were just as bad as monsters, which added to her reservations.
Once Kazuya heard her thoughts, everything clicked into place. It became clear to him that the politics among Familia were continuing to bubble under the surface, with rivals spreading false claims and malicious rumors to tarnish the image of those they deemed as obstacles on their paths to greatness. He recalled the incident involving the Zeus and Hera Familia, who had recently received enough support from two goddesses so that Bell could raise enough funds to lift the exile placed on the Familia started by his grandparents. This was a significant victory that brought immense happiness to his mother and uncles, reflecting how the tides of reputation could shift with the help of alliances and friendships.
After several years of hard work and dedication, he finally reached a significant moment in his life. Had it not been for the support of Serket and Hephaestus, the situation for Bell and Hestia would have been far worse than it had turned out to be. The bond formed between the Serket Familia and the Hestia Familia was becoming stronger every day. As they collaborated on various tasks and challenges, Hestia started to feel a growing sense of confidence in the future of her own Familia. Although she might not be the most famous goddess among others, Serket reminded her of her many positive qualities, emphasizing that kindness like hers would always be acknowledged and rewarded in some way.
Serket encouraged Hestia to never lose hope, reminding her of the journey she had taken to find Bell, a journey filled with struggles but ultimately leading to something beautiful. Just as she had discovered Bell, Serket assured her that she would also find more individuals whom she could cherish and consider her children. Hestia, feeling playful and light-hearted, teased Serket, jokingly saying that she sounded just like a mother trying to comfort her child in need. In response, Serket smiled and revealed that, despite her appearance, she had several daughters of her own. Through her experiences, she understood both the challenges and the immense rewards that come with being a parent. Serket reassured Hestia that should she ever need any assistance, guidance, or advice, she was always available to help her navigate the journey of motherhood.
After finishing his conversation with Eina, Bell stood up, not really aware that Kazuya had been watching him the whole time. Eina had mentioned something that caught his attention: she said that many women are attracted to big, strong men who can provide a sense of safety and protection. The idea struck a chord with Bell. It sparked thoughts in his mind about how if he worked hard enough and built his strength, he might even grab the interest of someone like the Sword of Orario, a title that represented power and bravery.
Feeling overwhelmed by the excitement of this possibility, Bell's cheeks flushed a bright red. Without thinking too much about it, he dashed towards the door of the guild lobby. As he ran, he shouted out his thanks to Eina, exclaiming, "Thank you, Eina! Love you!" The words burst out of him in a rush of emotion, reflecting both his gratitude and a hint of his affection.
As he left the guild lobby, Eina stood there, her cheeks now tinged with crimson as well. She was left wondering if she had perhaps said too much or if her words had created an unnecessary stir. The warmth of the moment lingered in the air, making her question whether she had overstepped her role or given Bell something to think about that he had not considered before.
Bell finally arrived home, and the first thing he noticed was the sorry state of his clothes. They were torn and dirty, reminders of the rough encounter he had just faced. He also realized that he did not have his daggers with him, which added to his sense of unease. As he stepped through the door, Hestia quickly came to his side, her expression a mix of concern and care. She began to examine him closely, asking if he was alright and if he had been injured during his adventure.
Bell reassured her, explaining that he and Kazuya had encountered a pair of minotaurs while exploring the fifth level of the dungeon. Thankfully, they had not faced this danger alone; someone had come to their rescue, which meant he had come back home without a scratch on him. As a small token of his gratitude, he revealed that he had collected several minotaur horns during the battle. He intended to give these to Hephaestus as a thank-you gift for her constant support of the Hestia Familia. Bell believed it was important to show appreciation and not take their allies for granted.
Hestia, sensing his weariness, instructed him to go inside, remove his shirt, and lie down on their bed. She wanted to conduct a status update on him, as she suspected that he might have leveled up after facing such formidable foes. Without arguing, Bell followed her instructions. Hestia wasted no time; she pricked her finger and let a drop of her divine blood fall onto his back. Then she placed a sheet of paper against his skin and rubbed it gently, allowing the information about his recent adventures to transfer onto the paper.
Moments later, Hestia delivered the results with a hint of excitement in her voice. "Well, you have leveled up to level two! And you still have those incredible skills, Gamer Power, Legacy, and Liaris Freeze." However, as she asked for more details about the battle, Bell unintentionally mentioned that the person who had saved him was known as the Sword of Orario. This revelation caused Hestia's mood to shift dramatically. She became visibly jealous and playfully smacked him hard on the back, her eyes narrowing with a mix of annoyance and affection.
Trying to lighten the mood, Bell suggested that Hestia should put an end to her ongoing feud with Loki. He pointed out that Loki seemed to be jealous of Hestia because of her curvier figure. After all, she was a goddess, and he felt she could easily change her appearance if she wished to. Bell mused aloud, "Loki is a trickster goddess, so why should she care?"
Hestia, still a little annoyed but realizing the truth in his words, voiced a deep thought. "No matter how physically beautiful someone may seem, it's really their character, actions, and beliefs that make them beautiful. A rotten person may look like a lovely flower, but not even bugs would want to approach it." This wisdom hung in the air, deepening their bond and reminding them both of the values they cherished in their adventures together.
As he finished tying his shoes, he recalled the promise he had made earlier. He was getting dressed, the fabric of his clothes brushing against his skin, as he thought about the special dinner he had planned. Hestia and Bell both knew this place well – it was a restaurant called the Hostess of Fertility. It was a place filled with warmth and delicious food, where they often gathered to share stories and enjoy each other's company.
He smiled to himself as he thought about Hestia. "To me, you are a beauty without equal, Hestia," he said softly as he adjusted his shirt. It was true; he felt a sense of loyalty and affection toward her, but he knew that part of his admiration came from being a member of their Familia. It was easy to feel such a strong connection to someone who had supported him through thick and thin.
He quickly finished getting ready, eager to head out. "Now excuse me," he continued, "I promised someone that I would eat dinner at the Hostess of Fertility." It was more than just a meal; it was a way for him to show appreciation to the kind woman who always greeted him with a smile and prepared a packed lunch box for him whenever he visited. Her generosity never went unnoticed, and he believed it was important to be kind to those who offered their help without expecting anything in return.
As he gathered his things, he felt a sense of excitement about the night ahead. The items he had collected on his last run had been quite impressive, and he thought that, because of that, he would be able to enjoy a truly tasty meal. He couldn't wait to share that experience with the hostess, who always treated him with such care.
"Do not worry, goddess," he called softly, knowing Hestia would understand. "I will bring back some food for you as well." It was a small gesture, but one that meant a lot. After all, sharing a good meal was one of the best ways to show appreciation and strengthen their bond. He left his home with a spring in his step, excited for the evening's plans and the joy it would bring to both him and those he cared about.
