Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Sailor Stars: Chaos Theory

Act 10: The Birth of a New Star

By: Sora Kazeno

Interesting title for this act! Makes you wonder what is going to happen. This act won't be quite as exciting as the last one as the senshi try to come to grips with what has happened to Sailor Moon, among other things.

Tuxedo Kamen rose to his feet as he looked at the way Sailor Moon transformed before his eyes. He had to try to get through to her. He refused to believe that Chaos controlled her. "Usako." He said as he drew her attention to him. Sailor Moon had her eyes on him but didn't say a word. "Usako, you have to fight this! This isn't you," he said as he tried to plead with her. "You are not full of hate. You love this planet and the people of it."

Sailor Moon turned her head to the side as if she was considering his words. Then she laughed with amusement at his words. "Love?" She said with a haughty tone. "Love is over rated," she said as she looked directly at Tuxedo Kamen. Sailor Moon turned her gaze to face Sailor Star Fighter and said, "love makes you do stupid things!" She laughed once more. Her laugh was abruptly cut short. She clutched the side of her head as if she was in pain. Sailor Moon seemed to be on edge and after a moment she lowered her hands from her head. "The Moon Princess is more powerful than I thought. It's no wonder she was able to free Galaxia from Chaos before. But I can control her…" her voice trailed off as she raised her arms in front of her face. Swirls of black and gold energy formed around her wrists and golden bracelets appeared. They were the same one the animates wore. And the ones Sailor Galaxia still wore. "Odd…" she said out loud to no one in particular. "It is almost as if Sailor Moon is more powerful than Sailor Galaxia. Such raw energy runs through this body," she said as she looked down at the brooch on her chest. "Here I believed that Sailor Galaxia was the most power senshi alive and yet…" Sailor Moon suddenly stopped talking. She smiled as a realization dawned on her. "The Moon Princess doesn't realize her true potential, her true power yet. Who she really is." Sailor Moon laughed at the dumb founded looks of the other Sailor Senshi. Some of them looked at her as if she was mad. She looked at the other senshi and said, "we will continue this at a later time." Sailor Moon vanished from sight, the other animates disappeared with her.

Sailor Galaxia was the first to speak after they left. "We need to go somewhere we can all talk," she said as she emphasized the world all. "We need to discuss how we will proceed as a team," she continued as she looked at Outer Senshi.

Sailor Uranus nodded her head in agreement. Under the circumstances she knew she needed to work with the others. Even Galaxia since she seemed to understand what had just happened to their Princess.

"The shrine," Sailor Mars spoke up when she found her voice. "There are rooms big enough for everyone and my grandfather will not be back until late tonight. We can talk undisturbed." Said Sailor Mars as she reverted back to her civilian form and the others followed suit. "I will lead the way."

The group barely talked on the way to the shrine. They were in state of disbelief and wanted answers. They wanted to know more than anything how they could have stopped the animates and saved Sailor Moon. They stood by and let it happen.

Rei led the group to one of the large empty rooms toward the back of the temple. Nobody knew where to start.

Michiru couldn't stand the silence anymore. She turned to face Galaxia at the other side of the room and stated, "there is something you are not telling us."

Galaxia exchanged a glance with Kakyuu but did not say anything at first. She knew they were going to be upset with what she was about to tell them.

"What did she mean when she said something about a true power?" Haruka asked as she studied Galaxia.

"I shall explain," Princess Kakyuu said as she looked at the Earth senshi. "A senshi receives their powers from one of two sources. The first is from their planet of their birth. Each of you," Princess Kakyuu explained as she directed her comments to the Inner and Outer Senshi, "draw your power from your respected planets. Senshi can also draw their powers from the stars," Princess Kakyuu continued as she gestured to the Three Light and Galaxia. "Senshi whom draw their powers from the stars are more powerful because stars are made up of pure energy."

"This is why when we fought it seemed as if your power could not scratch me," Sailor Galaxia interjected as she referred back to the time the Outer Senshi fought her. She turned her direction to the Three Lights "and why you were more successful against me."

For the first time in the last thirty minutes Seiya spoke up, "it's her." He said. Everyone turned to face him completely confused as to what he meant. "She's the legendary senshi, isn't she? She can draw powers from both sources." Seiya stared hard at Galaxia and waited for a response.

Galaxia bit her lip and didn't respond for a moment. Her lack of response told Seiya all he needed to know. He got up and headed toward the door.

"Seiya!" Yaten exclaimed at his behavior.

"Where are you going?" Taiki asked him in an angry tone.

"I can't deal with this right now," he said as he walked out of the room and closed the door behind him. His footsteps became fainter as he walked away.

Taiki was the first to speak again. "You are referring to the folklore of Sailor Cosmos, are you not?" He asked Galaxia. He wanted to verify Seiya's assumption.

Setsuna gasped at the mention of the senshi's name. "Sailor Cosmos is thought to be only a legend!"

"No," Princess Kakyuu said. "When we were here last I recognized the shine of her starseed. There is no mistaking it."

"Can someone please explain what everyone is talking about!?" Minako yelled as she stood up. "Who is this Sailor Cosmos and what does she have to do with helping Usagi-chan?"

"Minako-chan, please calm down and give them a chance to explain," Ami said as she tried to calm her down.

Minako let out a deep breath and sat back down.

"I agree that we need some answers. And if you knew something, why didn't you tell us?" Haruka said as she glared at Princes Kakyuu.

"Allow me," Galaxia said as she stood up for the first time since entering the room. "Sailor Cosmos is believed to be a legendary senshi that has immeasurable power. Our power pales in comparison to her true power. She has not been seen in over a millennium so not much is actually known about her but she was the one that originally sealed Chaos before I attempted to reseal it with in my body when the seal had weakened. My concern is that if those powers awaken when Chaos has control over Sailor Moon's body we will not be able to stop Chaos. As it stands now it will be extremely difficult to stop Chaos since Sailor Moon is very powerful. If she awakens as Sailor Cosmos, the guardian of all time and space, nothing will stand in Chaos' way."

"So how do we stop this Cosmos from awakening?" Michiru asked as she began to understand the gravity of the situation.

"I wish I could say there was something we can do. But it is up to Sailor Moon and how long she can fight against Chaos herself. Chaos does not have complete control over her yet. As you saw earlier she summoned bracelets to remain in control," Galaxia said as she paced a part of the room as she tried to develop a plan. "Chaos also sent her starseed away since it represents her purity. The starseed changed color as Chaos pasted through it but not that Chaos is gone from the starseed, it poses a threat."

"So you're telling us we have a chance," Makoto said trying to be hopeful.

Rei's eyes were downcast as she spoke, "so we need to find the starseed. But we don't know where to look."

Luna and Artemis quickly ran up the shrine steps. They knew what happened earlier. Ami had contacted them on their communicators. They needed to meet with the others and try to determine what they could do to help. As they became closer to the building entrance and they were surprised to see Seiya sitting on the front steps with his hands resting on his forehead.

"Go ahead without me," Luna said to Artemis. "I'm going to talk to Seiya."

Artemis looked at her in surprise but went on inside. He quickly ran inside and head inside the room. No one was talking when he arrived and he thought it was a little odd.

"What did I miss?" Artemis asked breaking the silence. A few of the senshi vaguely looked at him acknowledging his presence. He waited for a response.

"What do you know about Sailor Cosmos?" Mamoru spoke up for the first time since they arrived at the shrine.

"Sailor Cosmos?" Artemis repeated as he cocked his head to the side as he tried to recall why that name sounded so familiar to him.

"The legendary senshi," Minako added when she noticed Artemis confusion.

"Ah," Artemis said as he sat. "I'm guessing Queen Serenity's assumption is correct then. She believed that Princess Serenity might be the reincarnation of Sailor Cosmos but the senshi's power never surface even when the Silver Millennium was attacked."

"So you knew and never told us?" Minako asked as she glared at her mentor. "That might have been something helpful to know!"

"Seiya-kun," Luna said as she sat down next to him watching him closely.

Seiya lowered his hands and looked in the direction where he heard the sound, "hmm?"

Luna paused for a moment thinking about what she was going to say next. "Don't blame yourself for this."

Seiya removed his hands from his face and looked up. No one was there. Then he looked down and saw Luna at the bottom of the steps. He tried to play off her remark, "why would I blame myself?" He tried to sound confident but he failed miserably.

"You wanted to know how you missed the signs that Usagi-chan changed," Luna stated. "I have been asking myself the same thing. Usagi-chan has been tired all the time." She paused as chose her words carefully. "She was very upset this morning and I wish we had more time to talk about… what happened between the two of you yesterday."

Seiya gasped. He was now fully paying attention to Luna. "…what did she tell you?" He wasn't sure how to respond to Luna's statement and the last thing he really wanted to discuss at the moment especially since the others were in a room behind them.

"I'm not going to tell the others what happened. That is between you and Usagi-chan," Luna said. "I know that she is really confused and whatever happens she is going to need your help. But you can't help her if you're sitting out here."

Seiya stood up. He knew the black cat in front of him had a point. He couldn't sit around and feel sorry for himself at this point. "They think she is the legendary senshi and are worried that Chaos will control that power."

Luna nodded her head. "Her mother expected as much in her past life… minus the part about Chaos," Luna said as she turned her eyes downcast. She looked up at Seiya with a smile, "but I'm going to believe in Usagi-chan. She has never let this planet down even in its darkest hour."

Seiya smiled at Luna's remarks. The first genuine smile he had all day. He got up and walked back in side, Luna followed a few steps behind him. He opened the sliding to door to the room the others were seated in. No one spoke when they saw him. "So what's the plan?" He asked in a solemn voice. Luna appeared by his feet.

The animates bowed before their new empress as they waited for their first set of commands. Sailor Moon sat before them on Sailor Galaxia's old throne. She looked over at the animates before she made up her mind. "Leave me for now," she said. "I have to deal with the Moon Princess, she is a more formidable foe than I anticipated."

The animates quickly did as they were told and left the throne room.

Once she was alone she closed her eyes and began to concentrate. "Your will amazes me. I can understand why Cosmos was hidden under your protection. But I sense a dark side to your heart that is torn between two… men." Sailor Moon took a deep breath as she began to focus on projecting herself to speak to Usagi whom was fighting to get out.

Usagi looked around her surroundings. She couldn't see anything but darkness all around her. "Mamo-chan?" She said looking around. She heard nothing. "Seiya?" Still nothing. "Any one?" She felt her shoulders slump as she realized she was truly alone.

She thought back to what she remembered last. She stood up trying to take on the Sailor Animates but she wasn't fast enough and they attacked her and took her starseed. She gasped and placed her hand on her chest. Her brooch was still there but it seemed to have lost its shine. She wondered what happened to her since her starseed was stolen. She wondered if this what the other senshi went through when their starseeds were taken and they were placed in limbo.

A golden flash appeared before her, "Sailor Moon," the mass said as it took on a male form.

Usagi recognized the person immediately and knew whom the dark energy belonged to. It was a person she hoped she would never have to face again. The last time she faced him nearly everyone died. She nearly died. "Why are you doing this?" She demanded. She had to stay strong even though she wanted nothing more than to run away and cry.

"You should know by now darkness will always try to conquer the light and light will always try to stop the darkness. That is the order of the universe. But I've grown tired of this and thought I would try to cut out a few steps and eliminate the light before it can appear again," Chaos said as he watched her closely. "But the light is gone now. It has been slowly been eaten away by Chaos over the past months. Your own self-doubt and insecurities only gave me more fuel." He smiled when he saw how uncomfortable his words made her. "You are trapped here Moon Princess while I am finally able to complete what I started with Galaxia." He laughed as her uneasiness.

"Release me!" Usagi shouted at him with as much courage as she could muster.

Chaos laughed at her feeble attempt. "Release you? I have big plans for you and I want to make sure you don't go anywhere you're not supposed to," He said as he raised his left hand. Horizontal bars appeared before Usagi.

Usagi looked around and saw the bars everywhere. She was strapped in a cage with nowhere to go. "NO!" She shouted as she rushed at the bars but they would not budge. Usagi couldn't hold it in anymore. She realized how hopeless her situation had become. She collapsed to her knees and began to sob. She was all alone.

Sailor Moon smiled as she opened her eyes. She was still seated on her new throne and she liked the position she was in. After speaking to Usagi it became apparent what had to be done to free the power of Cosmos. Usagi was at her most vulnerable. Usagi was tied with Sailor Moon and Princess Serenity was the keeper of Sailor Cosmos.

"Animates!" Sailor Moon bellowed as she rose.

Within a few minutes the five women assembled before her.

"I think we are going to pay the Sailor Senshi a visit," she said. "I have something I am dying to share with them!" She laughed as she stepped down from her throne. "I am going to unlock the last step needed in order to control all of the galaxies."

"Hello? Anybody home?" A loud voice shouted from outside the room.

Everyone froze at looked at each other. They were thinking the same thing. They heard Usagi's voice. It was her normal voice.

Mamoru was first to his feet and rushed out.

"Mamoru-san it has to be a trap!" Haruka said as she jumped to her feet to temporarily block him from rushing out of the room by himself.

"I don't care if Usako is out there!" He exclaimed as he raised his voice. "We can't help her if we stay in here." He pushed past her and out the door.

Everyone quickly followed after him and down the steps. Each wanted a clear view of what was about to happen. They weren't expecting to see her again so quickly.

"I knew you would come!" Sailor Moon said with some excitement in her voice. But it wasn't Usagi's normal voice any more. The cheerfulness was gone and was replaced but a tone of anger, the voice of Chaos.

No one said anything as they looked at her. They were waiting for her to make the first move. They weren't ready to battle their princess yet. It was too painful.

"Hmm," Sailor Moon said as she looked down at her uniform. "I guess this outfit is a little out dated. Maybe you would prefer something else?" She said as her brooch flashed and her sailor fuku turned into dark pink ribbons. The ribbons reformed into a flowing white dress. Her hair had become longer and the wings on her back had disappeared. She was dressed as Princess Serenity.

Princess Serenity opened her eyes. Her eyes were the same dull shade of blue which signified that Chaos was still in command of her body. "It's amazing," she said as she looked at the beaded golden bracelet on her wrist, "how a person can survive being split between two personalities and not go mad."

Galaxia found her voice first. "What are you talking about?"

"This body is split between her former life as Princess Serenity and eventual Queen of Crystal Tokyo and just an ordinary high school student Tsukino Usagi. The amount of conflict had made it so easy to bend her to my will. You don't think it was a coincidence how she drastically changed? I believe you said it best," Princess Serenity said as she turned to face Galaxia. "We all have a dark side to our soul." She smiled. "I guess hers was darker than I ever imagined. Can you image being toward between two different destinies for one body?" She flipped some of her hair to side. "But enough of that. I've sealed Usagi. I don't find her useful."

"What did you do with Usako?" Mamoru demanded as he tried to control his anger.

"Ah, yes the Prince of Earth. The soul mate for Princess Serenity…. too bad Chiba Mamoru isn't the soul mate for Tsukino Usagi," Princes Serenity said with a smirk.

"How can you be so cruel?" Yaten exclaimed who was surprised by his own outburst. If there was one thing he learned about this girl before him she would never say something to purposely hurt someone.

"You begin to bore me," said Princess Serenity as Sailor Moon's brooch appeared in her hands. She opened the lid and the brooch began to float in the air. The bright white light began to shine from the once red star. It became a sphere of bright white light.

"The Maboroshi no Ginzuishou!" Setsuna exclaimed as she pulled out her crystal wand preparing to transform.

"What are you doing?" Rei shouted at her as she grabbed her arm. "It's Usagi you're about to attack!"

Setsuna frowned as she thought about Rei's words. It was difficult to be able to attack her own Princess she was sworn to protect.

The Maboroshi no Ginzuishou floated next to Princess Serenity with an out stretched hand the crystal flew into her right hand. In her left hand appeared the tiare she used as Sailor Moon to purify enemies.

"No!" Princess Kakyuu shouted as she recognized what was about to happen. "She is about to combined both of the senshi power sources!" Princess Kakyuu attempted to attack but Sailor Chi stood in the way.

"Now the real fun begins!" Sailor Moon exclaimed with glee as the crystal came in contact with her tiare. A bright white flash occurred. Everyone had to shield their eyes from the intensity of the white hot light.

"The birth of a star…" Seiya murmured as he felt the energy radiate. "Odango…we're too late…" he said in defeat.

The light began to die down and turned to darkness. A burst of prism colors appeared for a moment. Once that energy began to fade the first thing they saw was a flowing white cape flickering side to side from the gusts of wind that was created by merging the two powerful objects. Her hair flowed with the wind but it was no longer gold. It had a silver hue and the odangos were so long they nearly touched the ground she walked on. She wore a pair of high heeled high shoes with small feathers fanning out to the side just below her ankles. She wore a short white pleated dress. In the center of the dress pleats was a small star shaped crystal enclosed in a small orb. On the top side of the orb were small feathers that resembled wings. Underneath the feather shaped wings were five small pearl looking beads. Underneath the small orb were several strips of color that seemed similar to a miniature rainbow. Two thin bands of ribbon flow out from under this emblem nearly touching the floor. Her broach also had the same symbol that was on the lower part of her dress. The dress sleeves were three horizontal bands of gold fabric with small pearls and feathers lining the side of each arm from the shoulder down. The dress had a sailor collar with three bands around the edge. A white choker with a gold pointed star lay on her neck. Three pearl beads adorned each ear lobe. A ten pointed star blazed on her forehead which replaced the crescent moon symbol that had covered her forehead for so many years. She had the same feathered hair ornaments she wore in her hair as Eternal Sailor Moon. Her hair no longer in round shaped odangos, a tradition from her past life for royalty of the Silver Millennium. But rather heart shaped odangos like the ones Chibi Chibi had worn. She wore a singular pearl ring on each of her fingers. In her left hand she held a long staff. The top of the staff carried the same emblem that was found through her outfit with the ten pointed golden star. The light from the Maboroshi no Ginzuishou was fading as it became one with the star in the crystal sphere. She opened her eyes. They had retained the dark blue hue. She didn't say anything at first as she could feel this new energy pulsing throughout her.

"…Sailor Cosmos…" Galaxia said as she stared the woman before her. There was no mistaking her fuku.

The shortest part yet! It didn't take too long for Cosmos to appear. Now that she transformed into the senshi they feared things are going to get really crazy. Just how powerful is Sailor Cosmos? You'll get a taste of her power and just how evil she can be in the next part on April 19th! Act 11: To Defy Destiny
