Jewel woke up in a daze. For a second she thought that she was somewhere comfortable, she didn't quite know where exactly but it was somewhere wild and green. Then she opened her eyes and was smacked full in the face with the memories of her predicament.

She got to her feet and looked anxiously around her. She was surrounded by cold grey steel bars, a cage,a prison , a trap. She tried to reason with herself. Everything was fine, Blu said it was for her own good, there was no reason to be scared. But despite this, images seemed to flash themselves across her mind. Fragmented pictures, and ideas flashed past her eyes, none of them coherent and none of them pleasant. They all had a theme, a theme of cages, entrapment and humans.

Her mind clouded by these thoughts of fear and anger, she threw herself against the wall of the cage, the cage moved a little but did not break. She was determined to escape, she wasn't sure why but she was hell bent on doing so. anything just to get out of the cage. She backed up once again and charged at the wall of the cage again, to the same result.

"Woa!" said the pilot," check on bird brain back there would you. I'd have hell to pay if anything happened to that bird."

The co-pilot looked back at the bird that was smashing itself against the walls of the cage.

"It doesn't look so good," the co-pilot said ,"I'll call that bird nut scientist."

The pilot picked up his cell phone and dialled tulio's number. The scientist picked up almost immediately.

"What happened!" he cried ,"is my precious Jewel hurt!? Did the plane explode?! What happened!?"

"See for yourself."

The co-pilot switched the phone to video call and then pointed the screen at jewel who was still trying to escape.

"Oh my!" Tulio exclaimed, "you need to calm her down."

"How!" shouted the co-pilot

As Tulio was on the call Blu noticed all the racket and came to investigate. He flew over and landed on the scientist's shoulder. He looked at the camera and squawked loudly.

"Jewel!" he cried ,"you're gonna hurt yourself."

Seeing Blu flapping and squawking about on his shoulder gave Tulio an idea.

"Put your phone in front of the cage," Tulio commanded ,"so that she can see the screen."

The pilots both shrugged. The co-pilot reached back and placed his phone so that the screen was easily in view from the cage, and suffered a bite from Jewel as a reward.

Tulio rushed over to a table and propped up the phone. Blu hopped down to the counter and looked into the screen.

"Jewel!" he called ,"can you hear me? What are you doing?!"

"I'm escaping!" Jewel grunted back.

"Escaping from what? You're being taken to the vet, there's no need to escape!?"

"I'm escaping because..."

She faltered, the raw fear and anger began to subside and she wasn't quite sure what she was doing

"Because what?" Blu asked, in a more tender tone.

"I.. I'm not sure," Jewel answered ,"just some bad memories. I saw the cage and i... I don't know... it's just this awful human junk"

Blu looked at her concernedly but had little clue what was going on.

"Ok," he finally said ,"just look after yourself,"

"That can be arranged," Jewel replied, calming down ,"why is everything that humans do while trying to help absolutely awful."

"I'm sure they're trying to do the best thing for you, maybe it's best to just leave them to it." Blu said " we're the last two blue Spix macaws so if you die, that's it. I'm doomed to loneliness and you're doomed to, well, death"

Jewel giggled at that last part

"I guess that makes me your one and only," jewel replied flirtatiously

Blu blushed, "I guess it does."

"Anyway, what's this rectangle thing that your face is on?" she asked, trying to poke the phone with her claws.

"It's called a telephone," Blu explained ,"it's used for..."

As the two birds jabbered away, Tulio stared in excitement.

"Ooooooh, it worked!" He said ,"Blu and Jewel are able to communicate and comfort each other through a video call!"

"Keep them talking!" he yelled into the phone, loud enough that the pilots could hear it ,"don't turn the phone off."

The two lovebirds whittled the hours away as the plane flew over the continent and touched down in minnesota.
