Chapter 644 The Claw Of The Raven
Like black cats, wizards generally believed that ravens had strong magic and were very special animals.
The magical community attached great importance to this type of animal and attributed a meaning that went far beyond many magical creatures.
As for the origin of the Raven and Ravenclaw, it dates back to history.
It is well known that in Celtic mythology, the raven often appears alongside the warrior goddess known as Morrighan.
It is considered a symbol of uncertainty and death, as well as the embodiment of Morrighan.
The Ravenclaw family is considered a direct descendant of the raven along with the warrior goddess, a family of pure-blooded wizards known for their wisdom and cunning long before the founding of Hogwarts. They were one of the leading magical families of the time, ruling and leading the entire magical community.
The hidden meaning behind the Ravenclaw family name is "Ravenous Predator," used to describe their thirst for knowledge.
According to the Sorting Hat, Rowena Ravenclaw taught philosophy, and the hereditary principle of the Ravenclaw family could be clearly seen; meaning: We will teach those whose intelligence is most assured.
In Ravenclaw, wisdom was the most important quality.
Presently, the symbol of Ravenclaw had changed from a raven to an eagle. However, their appreciation for wisdom never changed.
Regarding the symbol of Ravenclaw House, the debate on whether it was a raven or an eagle had long existed.
Although the emblem of the Ravenclaw family was a raven spreading its wings, many wizards believed that the messenger represented by the raven was not very auspicious.
Furthermore, there were rumors that Lady Rowena Ravenclaw's Animagus form was an eagle, and the famous Ravenclaw diadem took the form of an eagle's head, with the House also represented in Hogwarts' emblem as an eagle.
Over time, the symbol of Ravenclaw House became an eagle.
However, the history was not as straightforward as it seemed, and there were many hidden secrets.
Evan recently discovered through reviewing ancient history books that hundreds of years ago, when the symbol of Ravenclaw House changed, many conservative wizards believed that the Raven should be the true symbol of Ravenclaw House and had different ideas about the so-called change.
The vast majority of these people were evil dark wizards who created heretical sects to spread their ideas.
What impressed Evan the most was a malevolent force called "The Raven's Claw" recorded in the book. They were founded over six hundred years ago and thrived on Ravenclaw's legacies, trying to gather the remaining information left by the era of Morrighan, the warrior goddess.
"The Raven's Claw" developed believers everywhere, propagating the fanatical heresy of "the Final Judgment."
Surprisingly, they seemed to have found some kind of ancient energy, hoping to use this power to rule the entire magical world.
Evan was greatly impressed by the description of this paragraph and would never forget it. Because the supposed miracle of the warrior goddess Morrighan they had found, no matter how one looked at it, seemed like the power of some malevolent god, whispering in their ears, worshipping the power of darkness and chaos, and more.
These terrible individuals truly wanted this ancient malevolent god to come into the world and help them regain their ancient supremacy.
Due to differences in beliefs and ideas, acting mysteriously, bloody, and cruelly, "The Raven's Claw" was jointly suppressed by the great powers of the magical world from its inception.
Ultimately, some of them plunged into madness and declared war on Hogwarts.
It was said that the original clue came from Hogwarts Castle and was believed to be a gift from Lady Rowena Ravenclaw.
They attempted to occupy Hogwarts, completely destroy this ancient School of Magic, and seek more clues.
Undoubtedly, that was madness, even more insane than Voldemort's actions!
But Evan doubted whether Rowena Ravenclaw could have left a message from evil spirits.
After all, judging by the cases of Gryffindor and Slytherin, the Four Founders all had secret ties to ancient malevolent gods.
The specific situation was unknown. After the war, the heretical organization of "The Raven's Claw" completely disappeared and fell out of sight. Whether they still existed or not, Evan did not know nor care.
I just hoped that the dreadful woman, known as the war goddess, the Morrighan, who could actually be some dreadful malevolent god, would not be invoked.
Seeing the crow gliding in the sky, Evan recalled the "Claw of the Crow."
The sound at the door persisted, with an eerie tone.
"If you were allowed to choose the sole achievement to be remembered after death, what would you choose?"
This inquiry tested the most significant to the respondent's heart. There seemed to be no leeway, making it challenging to answer.
It was conceivable that if the response was incorrect, what awaited Evan would be actual death.
Although intricate, considering it was Ravenclaw posing this question, there obviously was only one answer.
"Wisdom, I hope that my wisdom will be remembered by the world!" Evan stated softly.
"Correct response," the voice chimed. "The brightest mind deserves a reward!"
The peculiar power controlling Evan vanished instantly, as if it had never existed.
With a thunderous noise, the stone door creaked open slowly, and the crow, which had been gliding above his head, took the lead to enter.
Evan went inside and found himself in a wide, ethereal-looking circular chamber.
The decor and layout resembled Ravenclaw's Common Room, with blue and bronze fabrics hanging from the walls.
However, due to the passage of time, these decorations had turned into a heap of tattered rags, barely recognizable.
The carpet on the floor was also worn, now only a layer of thick dust remained.
The ceiling above them was vaulted with painted stars.
Beneath each star, in a corresponding position, were shelves filled with diverse magic classics.
A false purple light enveloped the room, and the books were completely isolated and shielded by magical barriers.
Ensuring the books inside were unaffected by time, bacteria, or insects, however, they couldn't be taken out for consultation.
Evan scrutinized carefully, resisting the temptation to touch the books on the shelves, fearing the aggressiveness of the protective magic unknown to him.
Moreover, even if he could circumvent it, it would take time. And Evan couldn't linger in that place for long. Nobody could guarantee when the Sirens' chants outside would cease.
