Prologue: Oyasumi

One day, a boy came home and witness a tragic point in his life, it causes a chain of events that would lead to the original timeline of the story. A story highlighting the importance of understanding, trust, letting go and moving forward in order to achieved a better future (there's also a bunch of lewd and degenerate stuff in it too but we're not here to talk about that).

Everything is line up the way it's supposed to, until the boy made a decision, one that would alter the story in ways neither him nor anyone else can predict.

Because of his grief, the 7-year-old Luka has flee from his village. Too emotional to think clearly, he didn't realise how far he had run or even where. It should have been impossible for a child such as him to made it this far, yet when he stopped running, Luka found himself days away from his house.

An action unlike his original counterpart, one born out of pain and loss, has ended up creating a new story. It has multiple endings and possible futures, new scenarios and changes of old ones, a story where our hero learn and discover who he truly is through his choices.

Similar yet different, this is the beginning of this story.

===0===

"Haah…"

Frantic footsteps could be heard throughout the night.

"Hahh…"

Moonlight shining the beaten path and the land around it.

"Gahh…"

The boy doesn't know how long he has been running but with the way his exhaustion is crippling him... it was long enough. He has fell a couple of times evident by the scratches on his knees, sweat dripping from his brown cloths and a messy short violet hair.

A big forest appeared before him and his body finally reached its limit.

Dropping down, the boy rest himself against a nearby tree. Breathing in as much as he could before exhaling, his small body taking in the much-needed oxygen around him.

'My legs hurt, I've never run so much before.'

Gathering himself, the boy named Luka observed his environment.

"Where am I…?" His lonely voice reaches no one...

It was quiet, too quite. Luka found himself completely and utterly alone in this hostile, cruel world.

And that's not the only reason he felt intimidated, the forest also has an unfamiliar aura around it, like a warning to those who wishes to enter.

"But… if I don't, I'll get caught by them instead…" He said, the horrible memories coming to his mind.

Left with no other option, Luka hesitantly enters the forest. Step by step, it became easier to get loss with how big it is. For a kid, it was easy to fear the dark, yet Luka could tell this place is different compared to all the other forest, the entire place felt surreal.

Walking further, he started hearing something, a conversation shared between two, hiding behind a tree next to them, the boy see that it was an elf talking to a fairy.

Well, he said talking but it was more like a scolding instead.

It ended with the elf huffing and the fairy pouting at her. Luka continue watching until they both went away and snuck out of there as fast as he could.

'I wonder how many monsters are in this forest?'

He kept walking until he reached the heart of the forest, there's a clearing in front of him, a beautiful part of nature like one in the picture book he once had, illuminated by the moon, Luka could see a fairy in the middle singing to herself.

"Chi-pa-pa~ Chi-pa-pa~ I Love Chi-pa-pa~!"

She sang nonsensically, the small monster wore an outfit primarily consisted of the colour green, her expresion gleaming in joy as her platinum hair dances in the wind. Happily living in her own world, she didn't even notices him staring.

When he accidentally stepped on a branch and it make a loud snapping sound, she turns to him.

Her playfully bright yellow-gold eyes meet his dim blue and then she started to excitedly fly towards him.

Now thinking he's being chase, Luka ran as far away from her as he can.

"Oh! Are we playing now~?" The fairy chimes.

Running around the forest at night is a terrible idea, Luka realised too late. Just as he was about to loosed her, the boy ended up crashing into a bush and tangling himself on it.

"Hah! Found you~" Said the fairy.

Panicking, Luka started begging her to spared him.

"Ahh! I'm sorry please don't eat me!"

"Hmm?"

"I didn't mean to spy on you! I won't do it again!"

Luka cried thinking he was done for, in all fairness, children were thought by their parent that monsters are dangerous and he was still just a kid.

"Aww~ does that mean we're not gonna play again?"

"H-huh?" hearing this, Luka stopped crying.

"I was having so much fun playing with someone again after so long! I thought you wanted to play so I chased after you." Having said those words, she laughed. The winds around the two picking up in correspond to her happy mode.

"Oh… is that all you wanted?" He got up, when she kept her friendly attitude, he asked "Then, if I play with you, can you help me?"

"Alright! I'm gonna be the greatest helper ever!" Flying around him, she introduced herself, "My name is Sylph! The Spirit of the Wind!"

"My name is Luka, It's nice to meet you Sylph." He smiled back.

Who would have guess? By running away from home and entering a magic forest, Luka ended up finding himself a friend.

===0===

"Is this it?"

In front of them is an old, dusty house hidden in the deepest part of the forest. It's covered in vines and there's wildflower growing everywhere. Despite all the evidences of it's abandonment, the boy still looked for any sign of ownership he could find.

"Yup! This is the one we're looking for!" Happily answered the fairy.

After inquiring about a safe place for him to stay for the night, Sylph enthusiastically flies around and says that she knew a place just like that. Now that they both found it, Luka couldn't hold back his disappointment.

"You said no one lives here anymore?" Luka could see the door barely hanging on to the frame.

Sylph landed on top of his head and pointed at it, "Well, the elf never came back, everyone just assumed she either move somewhere else or that she's dead."

"Right…" seeing no other option, the boy hesitantly enters the old house. The door opened slowly, accompany by the sound of creaking, every step he took disturbed the layer of dust on the floor leaving footprints wherever he goes. Any source of light came only from the moon and if it weren't for the fairy playing with his hair Luka would've left the place already.

They both eventually found the only bedroom in the old house, strangely enough, compare to the rest of it's interior, Luka was surprised to find how well kept everything was. The stone floor was covered with a beautiful red carpet throughout the room, a book shelve could be seen placed next to the comfortable looking bed.

Beside the bed was a nightstand, Luka saw a book being left there right next to an oil lamp. Walking over to it, the boy turned the dial on, the whole room shone bright by it causing him to shield his eyes away and Sylph to yell out.

"That's way too much! Tone it down!"

"S-sorry!" he dial it down, turning the fire to a much more bearable state.

"Haha! That's just like Mandy whenever she gets mad!" Merrily chimes the fairy, she then went and bounce herself on the bed. Seeing how fun it was, the boy decides to joint her and they both ended up jumping around on the bed together, Luka couldn't remember having fun playing with a friend like this his whole life.

When they're done, Luka and Sylph lie down on the bed with the fairy sleeping on his chest. The sound of her breathing softly was calming to him. Looking back on it, how could Luka ever thought that she could be trying to hurt him? That must have been his nerve getting to him with how scared he was.

Luka has a lot of questions about everything that has happened, his mother, Sylph, the forest, and the house. Despite that however, the boy found peace in focusing on what's in front of him first.

"Thank you, Sylph." Fragile as it may be, the smile on Luka's face was genuine. The boy manages to find himself salvation despite how horrible the start of it all was. Hugging the fairy close to him, Luka fell asleep without any problems.

That was how the first day living in the forest of spirit ended for Luka, as from this point on, the story would take a drastic changes from its main route. Living his days happily playing with his little friend, the boy has no idea the things that awaits him.

END OF PROLOGUE

Author's note: I've always wondered what's the extent of the spirits power and how much stronger Luka can get if he form a deeper connection to each of them. In our little fairy's case, a friendship so precious that separating them is near impossible.
