I know I was vague and said "check back in a month" but I was too excited so here we go!

Hello everyone! I'm back for another SYOT! I swear this is the final one I'm writing. So bring on the Tributes!

I do not own the Hunger Games. All credit goes to Suzanne Collins. Any characters or locations or plot lines not featured in Suzanne Collins' story belong to me. Any tributes submitted by other authors and/or reviewers belong to them and will be credited.

The 59th Hunger Games: These Cloying Delights

By Dante Alighieri1308

Are you sweet or sour? Are you good or evil? Are you a Victor or bound for the grave? 24 Tributes are forced into a fantastical arena unlike any other. No matter who they are or what dangers they face, all want the one thing every Tribute has ever desired. To survive.

A green skinned junior Gamemaker looked down at Head Gamemaker Lucan Hadrianus with a nervous twitch. He still couldn't believe that this was part of his job description.

In the VIP booth of Edge, the Capitol's latest overpriced and supercilious night club, the junior Gamemaker leaned down and gently whispered. "Head Gamemaker?"

His boss didn't stir. He was asleep on a dark red velvet couch, a bit of saliva dripping from his lips and staining the beautiful upholstery. He reeked of alcohol and the air was stale with the smell of Dream Lights, a new visual drug of choice for Capitolites into that sort of thing. A stack of the glasses used for it sat on top of a sleek black table, surrounded by passed out members of the Head Gamemakers entourage.

The Head Gamemaker didn't respond so the Junior Gamemaker bravely rubbed his back. "Head Gamemaker?"

The touch did the trick and Lucan sputtered awake, coughing out phlegm and spit. The Junior Gamemaker looked away, briefly wondering if that accountant position for an Avox trading company his sister mentioned was still open.

Red eyed, irises unfocused, Lucan looked up at his underling. "Who are you?" He asked.

The Junior Gamemaker, a professional, kept eye contact with his boss and his tone polite. "Gaston, sir." The Junior Gamemaker replied.

"Who?"

"You… you hired me three months ago."

Lucan shrugged. "Hmm… I'm having a bit of foggy memories at the moment." He joked. He lifted an empty cup and spit into it. Gaston squirmed, which Lucan enjoyed. Power was more intoxicating than the best drugs Lucan had found. "What are you here for?"

"Sir… you… you had a meeting with the Senior Gamemakers… an hour ago."

"Oh. Are they still waiting?"

"No… sir… sorry."

Lucan scoffed, rising from the couch. "Well, that's fireable behavior if I ever heard it. You want one of their jobs? How about I make you chief of Mutt Development?"

"Uh… I don't… sir?"

"Hmm, maybe arena terraforming is more your speed." Lucan criticized, making the man briefly go red with embarrassment, though with his skin color that translated to a nasty brown rash on his face. He quickly strutted away, shaking off the effects of his hangover, well used to the sensation by now. "Is the car out front?"

"Yes, sir."

"Good. You can walk back to the Gamemaker Center."

"O-of course, sir."

Lucan left him and his hanger on's behind without another look. Like always, they would be back.

The drive back was long, but it gave Lucan time to compose himself. Not that there was much need for him to focus at work. It was just a month until the 59th Hunger Games and Lucan was feeling confident. The arena was done, ahead of schedule. The final batch of mutts were brewed and ready to be released into the arena in a week to get settled. And the Capitol's excitement for the Hunger Games was suitably high.

The stage was set for another successful year.

Lucan was ready for it. After learning President Snow had been satisfied with the 58th Games, Lucian had finally been able to enjoy the benefits of being a Head Gamemaker. Parties, clubs, plenty of companions. And none of the other Gamemakers were rising up to question him, sufficiently cowed by his popularity and the President's approval and thus protection.

'It's good being on top.'

In that moment, Lucan felt he'd always be there. For there was nothing more intoxicating than power.

And when the 59th Hunger Games officially started, there would be nothing but that for him. The lives of twenty-four Tributes would be in his hand, or more appropriately, under his thumb.

He was ready for the Games.

He briefly wondered if the Tributes would be too.
