Prologue:
Many months had passed since the climactic events of Chain of Generations, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Mobius had settled into a peaceful calm. The world now basked in an era of tranquil serenity. Eggman—or rather, his Nobody, the twisted Trobiknx—is trapped in the void of time and space. With the doctor locked away, the vibrant landscapes of Mobius now thrived under clear skies, untouched by the hands of darkness.
For Sonic and his friends, it seemed like the battles were finally over, and peace was theirs to enjoy. But our speedy hero had learned time and again that peace was never a permanent fixture.
Far beyond Mobius, something strange was stirring. On a distant world, what once seemed like an ordinary planet had been transformed into a massive interstellar amusement park. Sprawling with cosmic attractions and glowing with vibrant colors, this bizarre complex attracted the attention of more than just curious eyes. Powerful signals and disturbances emanated from its core, drawing in a figure of immense power—someone who would soon cross paths with the Mobian heroes.
Unseen by those wandering its colorful paths, darkness had begun to gather in the park's shadows, threatening to disrupt the fragile peace that Mobius had fought so hard to achieve.
As Sonic and Tails prepared to investigate this strange new amusement park, little did they know it would be the gateway to an adventure that would span both the heart and the stars. An adventure filled with enemies more dangerous than they could have anticipated. Once again, the peace they had fought so hard to protect was about to be tested.
The Search for Eggman
Sometime after Chain of Generations...
The metallic halls of Eggman's base were eerily silent, a sharp contrast to the chaos that had filled them for years. Orbot hovered near the central console, his fingers clacking away with mechanical precision. Beside him, Cubot spun in circles, clearly bored.
"Why do I always get stuck with the boring jobs?" Cubot whined, coming to an abrupt halt. His yellow head swiveled toward Orbot. "We've been at this for weeks! What's the point if we can't find the boss?"
Orbot sighed, a sound remarkably close to human frustration despite his lack of lungs. His red eyes narrowed as he scanned the screen in front of him.
"I've explained this to you before, Cubot. The point is to locate the doctor. It's crucial we find him."
Cubot folded his arms, his head tipping to the side in thought.
"Yeah, but Metal Sonic said the boss was terminated, right? Maybe he's really gone this time?"
"Metal Sonic can be a bit... dramatic," Orbot replied. "Terminated or not, the doctor has always found a way to return. It's what he does."
"Like a really evil boomerang!" Cubot exclaimed brightly. "He always comes back!"
Orbot gave him a sidelong glance, but he couldn't deny the truth in Cubot's ridiculous analogy. Eggman was never truly gone for long, no matter how dire the situation seemed. Yet, this time felt different. Everything had changed. And what troubled Orbot the most was Sonic's silence.
"I've been wondering," Cubot chimed in, "where's Sonic? He said he'd help us find the boss, but we haven't heard a peep from him either."
"That's what worries me," Orbot replied, his tone laced with confusion. "Sonic promised to help, yet we've heard nothing."
"Maybe he's stuck in a parallel universe... made of spaghetti!" Cubot suggested, trying to lighten the mood.
Orbot ignored the comment, refocusing on the console.
"I've rerun diagnostics across all of Mobius and our off-world networks. Nothing. It's like the doctor's signal just... vanished."
"Vanished?" Cubot's head spun dramatically. "Does that mean we should start looking in places he hasn't been?"
"That's... actually not a bad idea," Orbot mused, his circuits processing the suggestion. "If the doctor was working on a secret project off-world, that could explain why we haven't detected him yet."
Cubot beamed proudly. "
See? I'm not just a pretty face!" he remarked.
Suddenly, Orbot's console beeped. A faint signal flashed across the screen, unmistakably carrying Eggman's technological signature, but mixed with something darker. Orbot's digital eyes blinked in surprise.
"What in the world...?" Orbot mused.
Cubot leaned in, squinting at the flashing coordinates.
"What's that? Did we find him?" he asked excitedly.
Orbot zoomed in on the readings, analysing the signal.
"It's definitely the doctor's technology, but there's an anomaly... some kind of interference."
"Where's it coming from?" Cubot asked, rolling closer to the screen.
Orbot typed in a few commands, zooming out to reveal the location. The image flickered to life, showing a lush, vibrant landscape with colorful skies. Tiny glowing creatures flitted through the air, leaving trails of light in their wake.
"What are those things?" Cubot squinted. "Are they fireflies? Oh! Maybe the boss is running a bug-catching competition!"
Orbot shook his head.
"No... these are definitely not fireflies. I've never seen anything like them before."
The red-and-black robot zoomed in on one of the creatures, its small, glowing body pulsing with energy as it zipped through the alien environment. The world they observed was unfamiliar—alien, even. Orbot's processors whirred as he tried to make sense of the strange place.
"Wherever this is," Orbot murmured, "it's off-world. And if the doctor's signal is coming from there..."
Cubot clapped his hands together.
"That means we found him! Right?" he asked.
Orbot hesitated. Something didn't feel right. The signal was too fragmented, almost like... it wasn't entirely Eggman's anymore. A sense of unease crept through his circuits.
"Cubot," Orbot said slowly, "we need to investigate this further."
Cubot saluted clumsily as he replied.
"Aye aye, captain!"
Before Orbot could continue, the screen flickered. The image of the vibrant world blinked out, replaced by static. The lights in the room dimmed. Both robots froze.
From behind them, a voice pierced the silence.
"So, you've been looking for me have you?"
Orbot's circuits jolted with recognition. That voice—it was unmistakable, but something was wrong. It was darker, more sinister. He turned slowly, his eyes widening. In the doorway stood the shadowy outline of a figure, watching them.
"Let me make it easier for you," the voice said, smooth and calculated.
Tropical Punch-Out: Shadows on the Resort
The air was crisp, unnaturally cool for what was supposed to be a tropical paradise. The artificial breeze drifted lazily through the palm trees, their neon-lit leaves swaying gently overhead. Colorful, glowing signs flickered in the distance, directing nonexistent guests to various attractions of this tropical looking resort. Platforms of shimmering metal floated in the air, connected by sleek bridges and twisting rails, all bathed in the glow of cosmic light reflecting off the stars above. The place was stunning, there was no denying that—but there was something off about it. It was too quiet. Too perfect.
The woman, clad in a red and blue suit, stepped lightly along one of the walkways, her gaze sweeping over the seemingly abandoned resort. Her footsteps made barely a sound on the smooth tiles as she moved, taking in her surroundings with a mixture of curiosity and caution. The soft hum of distant machinery buzzed around her, but there was no sign of life—no tourists, no staff, no one.
Her eyes narrowed beneath her furrowed brow. "What is this place?" she wondered. From the outside, it looked like a bustling intergalactic amusement park, but here on the ground, it felt empty. Hollow.
Suddenly, a voice echoed through the air, the booming announcement breaking the eerie silence.
"This amusement park has been constructed entirely out of a sense of remorse for my past transgressions and is in no way associated with any sort of evil plot or premeditated misdeeds."
The woman stopped, her lips curling into a slight smirk. She had been in enough situations like this to know when someone was overcompensating. Whoever was behind this—this Eggman—was clearly guilty of something. And remorse was the last thing this place projected.
She kept walking, her senses on high alert. Each step carried her deeper into the heart of this place, where the neon lights grew brighter, and the soft sounds of distant music wafted through the air. But no matter how far she went, there was no one around. No guests, no workers. The only company she had were the countless artificial lights flickering along the walkways.
"Why is it so dead here?" she muttered under her breath.
A place this flashy should be teeming with life, yet the emptiness was overwhelming.
She moved with purpose, her sharp eyes catching every detail—the artificial palm trees that shimmered with neon lights, the brightly colored banners that waved in the non-existent wind, the sparkling pools of water that reflected the stars. Everything was designed to be a paradise, but it felt wrong. It was like someone had created the shell of something beautiful, but forgot to fill it with anything real.
As she walked, another announcement echoed through the park's speakers.
"Please feel free to leave all valuables in your vehicle during your stay here at Eggman's Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park, as they will be perfectly safe. In no way will roaming bands of robots break into your vehicle."
The woman shook her head, rolling her eyes. "This guy's got a real ego problem", she thought. The more she heard, the more she was convinced this park was a front for something far darker than fun and games.
Suddenly, a ripple of darkness caught her eye. She stopped, her body tensing as shadows began to swirl at the edge of her vision. From the corners of the resort's pristine walkways, dark, inky forms began to slink into view—creatures of pure shadow, their eerie yellow eyes glowing with malicious intent. The woman's gaze sharpened. She had heard about them on her travels but had never encountered them in person.
"So, I guess you're the welcoming committee, huh?" the woman remarked teasingly.
The creatures, the Neoshadow Heartless, moved with unnerving silence, their twisted forms skittering toward her, claws extended and ready to strike. She shifted into a defensive stance, her fists glowing faintly as cosmic energy began to crackle around her.
"Alright, guess we're doing this the hard way."
The Neoshadows lunged, their bodies blurring as they rushed at her with terrifying speed. But she was faster. With a blinding flash of light, she dashed forward, her glowing fist colliding with the nearest Heartless, sending it flying backward in a burst of energy. Before the others could react, she shot into the air, flipping gracefully as she delivered a powerful kick to the next Neoshadow, her boot cracking with golden light as the creature disintegrated on impact.
The remaining Neoshadows circled her, but she was already moving. Her body glowed brighter as she blitzed through the creatures, her fists connecting with deadly precision. One after another, the Heartless exploded into dark mist, their forms collapsing under the sheer force of her strikes. It wasn't even a fight—it was an annihilation.
Within moments, the last of the Neoshadows had vanished into nothing, leaving only the faint smell of ozone in the air. The woman stood in the center of the walkway, her hands still glowing faintly with energy, her eyes scanning the area for any more threats.
"Too easy," she muttered, shaking her hands out as the glow faded.
Just as she was about to move on, another announcement crackled to life overhead, the voice trying—and failing—to sound professional.
"Would the woman in the red and blue suit please report to the nearest information point. We have... uh... important information for you. And, uh, we definitely don't have a trap waiting for you or anything. Just, um... free information! Yeah!"
The woman smirked and shook her head.
"Yeah, right..." she mused.
She looked around, her senses tingling as she scanned the area once more. The creatures, the odd announcements, the too-perfect surroundings—something was seriously wrong here. She needed a better vantage point.
Without hesitation, she crouched for a moment, then launched herself into the air with a burst of golden light. The world below blurred as she soared high above the resort, her body cutting through the sky like a comet. From this height, she could see the full scope of the resort—the twisting pathways, the floating platforms, the grand neon signs, and the eerie emptiness that filled every corner.
Hovering above the park, she narrowed her eyes and scanned the horizon. Whoever—or whatever—was behind this place, she was going to find out. And when she did, they wouldn't know what hit them.
Welcome to the new story.
A very short prologue chapter, but I thought it was best to add in a small synopsis and two small scenes to help start the story. Interestingly, the scene with Orbot and Cubot was going to be a secret ending in Chain of Generations, but I thought it fitted better here.
I hope you enjoy this new take on Sonic Colors, integrating small parts from the other stories in the Blue Blur story arc. We are moving onto Phase 2, which means one thing ... Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix - Blue Blur Edition II is nearly here!
My plan is to write these two stories concurrently, like I did with the original Blur Blur Edition and Shadows of the Past. Then hopefully, when this story ends, Sonic meets Sora and co again in KH II. Hopefully it will go to plan... wish me luck!
A big shout out to Aragorn II Elessar, Keeperofhounds, triscythe59, Terrence Johnny Stanford. They have helped me with some brainstorming ideas and concepts. Very thankful for their help and support.
Let's get this story started shall we. Enjoy Tropical Resort!
