Spooky season greetings, dear readers. And welcome to a new fic offering from me for your reading pleasure. This fic is gonna be featuring something that I've only really read about and seen in movies (and would like to go to one spooky season), that something being haunts and haunted houses. Now, with this fic, I'll be doing my best to work on elements of a haunt that largely features a creature that's like an unofficial Halloween and overall spooky season mascot. And just what is this creature, you may be asking? Read on to find out, and I hope you all enjoy, my boos. =)
(Disclaimer: I own none of the wrestlers used in and mentioned in this story. They are the property of themselves, the WWE, and the promotion(s, in Kaitlyn's and CM Punk's cases) they wrestle(d, in AJ's case) for. I only own the ideas going into this.)
It was October at last. Time for all manner of things spooky and scary and even sweet for some. And with it brought out many of the hallmarks of what a lot of people affectionately call spooky season, one of those things being all manner of haunted house-type attractions, some being bravery tests to many.
"Uh uh, Paige. Absolutely not," April Mendez, called AJ by her friends, said one afternoon while she was out with one of her roommates taking care of some grocery shopping.
"Oh come on, AJ," one of AJ's roommates, a woman named Paige Knight, said, a near whine starting to edge into her voice. "It'll be fun! Plus, it'll beat marathoning more of the same movies on an October night."
"Yeeeaaahhhhh, I'm not buying it," the brunette bluntly said as she grabbed a box of popcorn bags from a shelf and put in their cart. "I'm just not seeing what exactly is so damn fun about going to some crowded building and being stuck in there with a bunch of screaming idiots. Unless you want to lose your hearing, I'm just not seeing the fun."
"But, AJ, love, that's the beauty of a good haunted house," the raven-haired woman began, a slightly passionate feeling starting to take over her. "It's basically like getting to be in a horror movie, which I know you love. You get to see people cut loose and embody characters that they've only seen in movies and on TV. And the adrenaline rush you get from making it all the way through to the end…. Oh man! If that's what Cora says skateboarding can be like, then I'll have to see if she can give me a lesson or two."
Shaking her head at what the taller woman just said as a bit of a laugh escaped her, AJ said "Yeah, I'm sure that'd go really well. Just make sure you have safety pads for your butt. Can't have you falling on and hurting that cute thing."
Snickering a bit herself, the taller woman said "Oh no need to worry about that, love. Of course I'd protect my butt" as she grinned and wiggled her hips, shaking her rear end a bit.
Laughing a bit more, AJ went about pushing the cart through the store aisles, filling it with things they were going to need for their apartment with Paige "helping", said help mostly coming in the form of grabbing some of the specialty foods sold only during the Halloween season-"Me and Cora need spooky cereal though, AJ. We haven't had any Count Chocula since last year!" being one thing the raven-haired woman said as she put a box of the aforementioned cereal along with three other boxes of cereal in their cart.
By the time the roommates finished their shopping, their cart was filled with what the trio were going to need food-wise. Now all they had to do was go check out and pay for what they bought.
...
"What?! What do you mean Joker's World isn't coming back this year?"
"Sorry, Cor. Please don't shoot the messenger. I'm just telling you what the boss told me," the blonde said, holding his hands up defensively, as he walked alongside his friend to their next class. "But, Mr. Borden's got a good reason."
"Yeah, I understand. Family stuff. Hope his daughter's doing okay. Still just feels like a major bummer though. And I was so looking forward to seeing the possible new zones he was gonna add this year too. Man, this sucks," the dark-haired woman said with a moan.
"Come on now, Cora, don't get so down. If it'll help you feel any better, I've heard of a new spooky attraction coming here to Union City. One that I think you and your roomies might like."
"I doubt that, Darb. I mean, how can anything compare to Joker's World? It was one of the best haunts to come through here every spooky season. Just what exactly can top that?"
A grin starting to cross his face, the blonde called Darb, full name Darby Allin, said "Well, my dear Cora. What if I told you there was going to be a new haunt that featured zombies?"
"Zombies? That all? Come on, Darb. Sounds weak. So, what would you be doing in that haunt? Just doing your best Joseph Joestar run away from the zombies?" Cora said with a scoff and an eyeroll, not feeling all too impressed by what the blonde just said.
Stifling a snicker at what his classmate had to say about the new haunt, Darby said "Well, …that'd be only part of it. What if I told you this would be a haunt where you'd be able to fight back at the zombies?"
'Fight back at the zombies'? It didn't seem all that often that she'd hear about haunts like this, as it seemed like pretty much every haunt with zombies had people trying to run away from the "undead flesh eaters". So, to hear about a haunt like this….
Seeing the excited look start to grow on his friend's face, Darby snickered a bit before saying "It would appear as though I've got your attention with that hook."
Trying to shake the look off of her face, Cora said "Well, I …I will say that does sound like it might be fun. Any chance I can get any hints about what to expect with it?"
"Ah ah ah, not yet, at least. Details are still getting smoothed out, but when I know anything else, I'll be sure to let you know," Darby said.
"Well, I guess I'll be good and wait then. Thanks so much for this news, Darb! Just gonna make sure I let Paige and AJ know," Cora said before excitedly giving her friend a hug.
"No problem, Cor," Darby said with a grin. "Now, let's get to class. I don't think you'd want Mr. Regal to get on both of our asses, would you?"
"No. No, I would not," Cora shook her head before she and Darby fell into step with other students heading to their own classes. 'Paige is not going to be happy about this. But, I'm sure once I tell her about the new haunt coming, she'll be cool with it. It's just going to be AJ that's going to be the tricky one to convince. Hopefully, she won't be too hard to convince to come to the new haunt with us.'
Where one haunt doesn't emerge, another rises to take its place. And given the new haunt Darby told Cora about, sounds like one that just might make for a worthy change from the usual in Joker's World. But, just how will this new haunt fare? Will it be something that Cora (Jade...didn't mention her full ring name earlier, but that's who I'm using here) and her roomies and all other visitors come to like? We shall find that out...next time! Until then, don't forget to RR please. =)
(So, yeah. I know it may seem pretty early to be posting spooky season fics. But, in my defense here, some of the stores in the area around where I live have already started to put spooky season goodies out for sale, with my first spooky season buys (that actually came on my birthday) being some candy and socks to start with a few more that I wouldn't wanna bore y'all talking about. Ahh, spooky season, how I love ye ...even though I'll admit that it feels as though it's started earlier than normal this year. ...But, ehh. *shrugs* I'm not gonna complain. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy seeing all of the witches, vampires, zombies, werewolves, ghosties, black cats, spooky sweets, and horror goodness grace store shelves. *sits back and gets comfy before opening a bag of candy corn and having a few pieces*)
