Waiting. Another blow with the sword, only this time the brown and green haired knight in training is able to block it. On and on they go around deflecting each others blows. Today is sword practice.
After a long period of time the brown and green haired kid gets hit with the sword from the opponent. A deep gash in the upper arm. She grunts, but doesn't linger on the pain lacing through her arm.
Girls aren't allowed to train in the combat field, especially not her. Though being the rule bender she is, she of course trained and went to the try-out, and passed with a very high level skill in armed combat.
She continues her attack until her taller, more muscular opponent concedes. Mina stops, and helps him up of the ground.
"Great job on that win, Will. But it seems that I actually got you for once" Johnny says as if he is surprised. If only he knew who he lost to. Ha! "Bad day?" she nods her head once.
"They still don't approve?" Mina nods her head with a soft sigh. It's not a full on lie, she thinks to herself. They will never approve of her doing anything other than be a princess and being coddled her entire life.
"Oh, well I guess you'll just have to show them how skilled you are with a sword." Johnny laughs.
Cheeky brat.
Then the bell rings to tell them that training is over. They nod their heads as to signal 'bye'. On her way to the Siren palace, she looks to the sky only to see it perfect. As always, she thought bitterly.
The painful throbbing in her arm brings her back to reality. She heals her wound and drops her very uncomfortable glamour. Her bicep baring a barely noticeable scar.
As she enters her chambers, Stela, the maid, passes a note from the King and Queen to meet in their study. Mina found it odd since they rarely call her to the study, unless it was extremely important. A diplomat perhaps? Deciding to shower and change first, lest she embarass them in front of them.
Breathing deeply to steady her frantic heartbeat as she makes her way to her destination. Knocking on the door three times, she waits. After about twenty seconds, the door opens. Her mother and father glance at her. She sits in the spot across them.
After a few minutes, her mother speaks. "Wilhelmina, as you are now at the appropriate age of courtship. We have decided that you are free to be with whoever you choose as long as it is within the time limit. Such a limit is at age eighteen. If you are not betrothed by that time or courting, we will naturally choose for you a person of status befitting you."
Gasping, and utterly speechless, Mina stands up only sit back down as he father's voice booms through the room.
"If you refuse, you are forfeiting your inheritance."
(Present day)
Mina POV.
I throw my weight into my next punch, but I barely catch Johnny's jaw. He gets me in the jaw hard. Then, he swipes my feet out from under me. I fall down with a grunt. He has always bested me with hand to hand combat while I best him at armed combat. I've gotten better since I first started my training, and so has he. They put us together so we can teach each other how to correctly do what one of us are faulty at while the other is skilled at.
He helps me up and then out of nowhere starts laughing. what is it now? I frown and give him a confused look. He points to my arm. I make a disgusted face of horror. It's Wendell flower mucus. Yuck!
I wipe it off of me and smear it on his cheek and smile like a goofy kid. His face turns downright disgusted and starts gagging.
The bell rings. It's time to leave. We both nod our signal of 'bye'. I don't talk much here because I am scared I'll sound like a girl, which I am. And then get kicked out for deception.
I walk to the forest, looking into the sky. I see two griffins in the air, one golden and the other silver, yet both majestic. There's a phoenix of equal majesty. As it flies throughout the sky, the phoenix with it's black feathers leave golden flames in it's wake. Too enthralled by it's rare sight to notice it's direction.
I get to my quarters after telling my mother's messenger that I would join the table after I clean up. Ignoring decorum I skip to the dining room and sit next to my little brother, Charlie. He makes his little brother face at me. I make my older sister face at him, and he smiles, seeming pleased with my reaction. Until I hear an amused chuckle. I hadn't even realized the extra people, or should I say Royals, at the table.
I look up and find a pair of magnificent blue eyes overflowing with mischief. My smile fades as my face stiffens. Turning towards mother dearest who somehow forgot to inform me.
I know why Teague, Prince of Fae is here. But it's too late to leave. I sit down as regally as possible. Trying like hell to ignore the heavy pressure as I avoid his eyes until the end of dinner.
A few minutes after getting in my room, I heard a soft knock on the door and let Charlie in the lay with me. He's been having nightmares lately. We lie down, and after a few minutes, he falls asleep. About 30 minutes later, I hear voices outside my door. I can't hear all of it, but I most definitely hear the words 'Teague' 'Wilhelmina' and the words 'arranged marriage' all in one sentence. I also heard an agreement. Then they walk away.
An hour later, I realize Im starving after barely eating during the suffocating dinner. I get up carefully so as not to wake up Charlie and go to the kitchens where I grab leftover peices of chocolate cake and bring them to my room. I close the door and wake up Charlie, knowing he left as soon as he could to be with me.
I ponder if it would be worth it to fight destiny.
I carefully make my way through the woods that surround the pond I often go to. Today I have no knights training, no official duties to attend to and no friends to play with. After a while that felt like hours, I ran on instict. I made my way to the edge of the forest near the plains and end up tripping over a giant branch. Of course, I just have to fall.
I hear an amused laugh somewhere nearby. Oh, Fates. I then spot him behind a tall tree. His laugh agitates me beyond belief, and without thinking, I send him flying into the pond. I smile in satisfaction. That's what you get for tripping me, you ignorant fae!
Something flashed beside me and without thinking, I grab hold of the vine before it could wrap itself around my ankle. Completely distracting me from the fae 10 feet away from me who closed the distance and now a respectful arms length away.
"Do you always ambush law abiding citizens in the forest with those petty tricks of yours?"
He smirks at my jab, "Why did you run away?"
I stare at his beautiful blue eyes and upturned lips, deciding not to stroke his ego. The Fates have blessed this man with gorgeous facial features. I stare into his eyes in all seriousness as I spout nonsense. "Because you're devastatingly ugly, I fear that if I stay near you any longer it would rub off on me."
I smile, wondering if I would be able to see Teague's angry expression before storming off in a huff. Alas, my expectation failed me. Instead, a fiery red card was thrown to me.
"We need to show up together, regardless if it rubs off on you." He says rather gruffly as runs his hands through his black hair showing his forhead and eyebrows, unintentionally seducing her.
I'm done for!
