Astrid parked her car near her destination. The news had spread like a wildfire. Six mercenaries found at a garage near some storage unit in Burgess district. The storage unit in question was also found to have been containing several illegal items, such as drugs, tobacco, unregistered goods, etc.
Astrid walked over to the storage unit, noticing the bustling with local law enforcement. Reporters were present too, trying to gather more information, while snapping pictures. The air was heavy with chatter from both police and the reporters and civilians present at the place. Astrid walked through them, after introducing herself to the officers.
Reaching inside the warehouse, she looked around, noticing the officers working, listing down the items found at the storage unit, and moving them out. Just then, she spotted a familiar face amongst the officers.
"Detective Frost." Astrid greeted as she approached the white haired detective.
Jack turned around towards her, his eyes widening in surprise as he saw her. "Agent Hofferson!" He greeted her back with a smile,"Fancy seeing you here."
"My work takes me to the most unexpected of places, detective." Astrid replied.
Jack nodded. "So it would seem."
"What's the situation?" Astrid asked.
"Our old friend left us with a present." Jack said,"And I came here to check it out." They started walking deeper in the storage unit,"We received reports of gunshots, and some other stuff. In the morning when our boys came to check what's up, they found this."
"Hmmm," Astrid nodded before looking at him again,"What about the mercenaries?"
"Found them in the garage down the street." Jack replied,"There were six of them. All badly wounded and beaten. One even died due to heavy bleeding from his cracked skull."
They stopped in their tracks and Jack turned to look at her. "From what we've found, it's evident that the mercenaries were probably hiding around in this storage place. Probably waiting to ambush someone. And when their target finally arrived, they chased after them, leading to the garage, where you know what happened."
He stopped for a moment before saying,"And I believe we both know who this someone is." and started to walk forward.
"Nightfury." Astrid muttered as she followed after him.
"Still think he's a bad guy, agent Hofferson?" Jack asked, looking back at her over his shoulder,"If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have found this stash in the first place, nor would we have arrested the mercenaries."
Astrid let out a sigh before answering,"We have our opinions, detective. Besides, it's my job to bring Nightfury under the law."
Jack stayed silent for a few moments, as if contemplating something. "Well, come along now. I'm pretty sure you want all the information regarding this matter for your investigation." He said.
Astrid simply nodded at that as she followed after the police detective.
Sometime later, Astrid was back inside her car as she drove down towards her next destination, at Caldera Cay district, the Wing Maidens Detective Agency.
Wing Maidens Detective Agency was a privately owned private investigator agency. It was co-founded by a group of women back in the late 1960s. The organization soon turned out very successful, with their employees, A.K.A, their private investigators completing many successful cases.
Even in present days, Wing Maidens remained very capable. Even being hired by law enforcement in cases where the involvement of B.S.D.I wasn't necessary or possible.
At the present date, the agency was operated by Mala Royale, the daughter of one of the original founders.
Arriving at her destination, Astrid looked up at the building that made up the office of Wing Maidens Detective Agency. A large 3 story building of old style. Astrid headed inside the building and spotted a female receptionist at the front desk and approached her.
"Agent Astrid Hofferson, B.S.D.I." Astrid introduced herself,"I am here to talk with Miss. Camicazi Boggs."
"Oh, one moment please. I'd inform her about your arrival and help set up a meeting. Please wait for a moment." The receptionist said.
"Thank you." Astrid walked over to the seats on the other side and sat on one as she waited for the receptionist to do her job.
A few minutes later, the receptionist called her again, and she was informed that Camicazi was free to see her. Astrid was given directions to her office and then she headed to the upper floor via a lift. Arriving at the upper floor, it took a while for her to find the Camicazi's office, but after asking around a little, she managed.
Arriving at the spot, she knocked on this door. "Come in." A voice called out from inside, and with that, Astrid entered the office.
Inside there, Camicazi was sitting on a chair behind her desk, dressed in jeans, a red t-shirt and a dark brown leather jacket, while handling some paperwork. Seeing Astrid, she got up to greet her.
"Good morning, Miss. Boggs. I am Agent Hofferson from B.S.D.I," Astrid introduced herself as she sat on the chair on the opposite side of the desk,"I am here to ask you some questions, if you don't mind. Your cooperation can be very valuable for the case I'm working on."
"Well, ask away, agent. Tell me what you want from me." Camicazi replied.
Astrid's expression then turned serious. "Well, at first, I'd like to ask you what's the relationship between you and Nightfury?"
Camicazi frowned hearing that. "Relationship?" she questioned.
"Ever since this vigilante popped out, you've been present or involved in quite a few of his messes. A suspiciously high number of times, if I say so, such as the event at the port a few days ago."
"What can I say, agent. I've got a tendency to be at the wrong place at the wrong time." Camicazi explained.
Astrid however wasn't satisfied with the answer. "You sure that's all, Miss. Boggs?"
"Of course, Agent. Besides, considering your field of work, you surely understand that this line of work can lead anyone anywhere."
"Perhaps." Astrid noted, before asking another question,"Would you tell me how you found out about the situation at the dock?"
"I have already spoken enough about that on the TV." Camicazi said, with a hint of irritation in her voice.
"Please, Miss. Boggs, it's for investigation purposes." Astrid insisted.
Camicazi stared at Astrid for a few moments, as if evaluating something. "You suspect that I have some sort of connection with Nightfury, don't you?"
Astrid sighed. "Well, with my observations, I'm inclined to believe you do." She admitted.
"Oh please, Agent," Camicazi scoffed,"I got better things to do than mix myself with folks like Nightfury."
Now this got Astrid curious. "How do you even feel about this vigilante?" She questioned.
Camicazi shrugged. "Welp, nothing much really. This city is already a hell hole. He's just the latest demon this city churned out."
"That's all?" Astrid asked.
"That's all." Camicazi answered,"Look agent, a thousand things happen in this city every day. We all just pick up the ones that interest us and stick with those things. I have no reasons to stick with Nightfury." She sighed before continuing,"I don't really care what he does, unless it somehow affects me."
When Astrid finally left the place, she was in deep thoughts. The meeting with Camicazi didn't really provide much, or anything at all, for her investigation, and she was left with more questions than answers.
Though, she had to admit, Camicazi Boggs was an interesting character. But, she had a feeling that the private investigator may not be telling the entire story. But since she had no evidence to back it up, Astrid pushed the feeling into the back of her mind for the time being.
Sitting back in her car, Astrid let out a deep sigh. "This case was getting more and more interesting." She thought before driving away.
