Ch4
The smell of flowers and old perfume filled the hospice. "Alright everyone Baymax will now take care of any of your problems," he said as a bead of sweat formed on his brow.
He could see his dean along with Nathalie and Adrien with his bodyguard watching. The blonde haired boy gave him a reassuring smile that somewhat calmed him.
Upon activating Baymax the crowd nurses and elderly clapped and stared in awe. "I am Baymax a personal healthcare assistant."
Come on we can do this. Putting on a pair of disposable gloves he assisted in helping Baymax with a variety of patients. Most of them had minor ailments that could be easily treated while others were prescribed various treatments in coordination with their current treatments.
Adrien's assistant Nathalie was watching closely the entire time while making notes on her tablet. Just what do you want? Adrien he seemed to understand, he was a nice guy and thought Baymax was cool. Yet Nathalie seemed different, she wanted something and a part of him wondered if Adrien was just a part of something else.
As the demonstrations of Baymax came to a close Nathalie met his gaze. "By chance could you demonstrate Baymax on a comatose patient."
He rubbed his head. "Um sure past tests haven't yielded much."
"It would be something worth seeing for us," Nathalie said as she went back to her tablet.
He looked at Adrien who appeared just as confused. "Um sure why not," he turned to a nurse. "Are there any comatose people here that Baymax could try helping?"
The nurse nodded. "Yeah this way."
Baymax followed him along with everyone else as they were led to a different ward. In this room a few comatose people lay. The nurse led him to the bed of a middle aged woman who lay peacefully. "Here try your best," the nurse said.
Taking a deep breath he looked at Baymax. "Alright Baymax try to help her," he said his heart racing in his chest.
"It will be my pleasure," Baymax said before walking up to the woman. Baymax's eyes emitted a scan as a few cords flew from his body and attached themselves to her. "Primary scan complete. Attempting to restore consciousness."
Come on you can do this. His heart raced in his chest as Baymax attempted to wake the woman up. Out of the corner of his eyes he could see his dean nervously watch while Nathalie and Adrien observed the procedure with curiosity.
However, after a few minutes Baymax shook his head and the cords went back into his body. "I am sorry. Unfortunately I do not have the capacity to awaken this woman."
He sighed. "It's alright Baymax you did your best." Turning around he looked at Nathalie. "Unfortunately I would have to continue modifying Baymax to revive a comatose patient. The brain is a complex organ."
"Understandable," Nathalie said as she made a few notes her tablet. When she was done she met his gaze. "The robotics program has some very talented individuals. I wish you success in your future endeavors."
His face reddened. "Thank you mam." Adrien gave him a reassuring smile and he smiled back at the boy.
Nathalie then turned to his dean. "Oh behalf of Mr. Agreste we would love to donate to your program. You'll find a payment in your bank account in a few days."
His dean's eyes lit up. "Thank you mam. We greatly appreciate it."
That night, he was back on patrol with Baymax, flying high above the glowing streets of San Fransokyo. It was a clear evening, and for the first hour or so, everything seemed quiet—too quiet, actually. He leaned forward, peering down at the city."Anything unusual, Baymax?"
"All scans indicate no current emergencies," Baymax replied calmly.
But just as the words left Baymax's mouth, he heard the distinct wail of police sirens in the distance. His visor zoomed in on the flashing lights far below, and that's when he spotted it—a black car weaving erratically through the streets with several police cars in pursuit. Hiro's eyes narrowed.
"Looks like we've got trouble," He muttered. "Baymax, let's go."
In an instant, Baymax dove down toward the scene, his thrusters firing as they closed in on the speeding vehicle. The car swerved violently around corners, knocking over street signs and barely missing pedestrians. The police cars struggled to keep up.
He quickly calculated the trajectory. "We need to cut them off before they hit the bridge."
As they neared the car, he prepared his magnetic launcher, ready to disable the vehicle when, out of nowhere, a familiar figure leapt from the shadows and landed gracefully on top of the speeding car—Cat Noir. He grinned as he twirled his staff, extending it to jam against the car's windshield.
"Miss me, genius?" Cat Noir called out, winking at Hiro as he rode the car like a surfboard.
He couldn't help but smirk. "You always show up at the right time, don't you?
Cat Noir laughed, his voice light and playful even in the middle of a dangerous chase. "What can I say? Timing's one of my many talents."
With Baymax now flying directly above the car, Hiro fired the magnetic launcher, hitting the back of the vehicle. Sparks flew as the car's engine sputtered and the wheels screeched, trying to keep control. Cat Noir leapt off the roof just as the vehicle spun out, crashing into a barricade at the end of the street.
"Nice shot!" Cat Noir praised as he landed beside Hiro and Baymax. The criminals inside the car scrambled out, clearly ready for a fight.
There were four of them—rough-looking guys with weapons drawn. One of them had a crowbar, another had a pair of brass knuckles, and the other two pulled out what looked like modified blasters.
"Looks like they're not going down without a fight," he said as he readied his microbots in case of a struggle
"Perfect," Cat Noir said with a grin, spinning his staff. "Let's make it quick. I've got a date with a croissant later."
Hiro raised an eyebrow but smiled, adjusting his gloves. "You're really something else."
Without another word, the two charged into battle. He sent Baymax to disable the blasters first while he and Cat Noir took on the others. One of the thugs swung his crowbar at Hiro, but Hiro ducked and dodged nimbly, using his tech to send a shockwave from his gloves that sent the guy flying back into a lamppost.
Cat Noir, meanwhile, was a blur of motion, his agility almost cat-like as he effortlessly flipped over one of the blaster-wielding criminals. His staff extended in mid-air, knocking the blaster from the thug's hand. Before the guy could react, Cat Noir landed behind him, delivering a swift kick that sent him sprawling.
"That all you got?" Cat Noir teased, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
He was facing off with the guy wielding brass knuckles now. The thug swung wildly, but He used Baymax's thrusters to jump over his head, landing behind him and sending a pulse of energy from his suit into the man's back. He collapsed, groaning as he hit the pavement.
"One more to go," He called out, turning to see Cat Noir already disarming the last guy. The French hero twirled his staff with one hand, casually knocking the criminal's legs out from under him with a graceful sweep.
The fight was over almost as quickly as it had begun. The criminals lay on the ground, groaning and defeated, as the police finally caught up.
Hiro dusted off his gloves, turning to Cat Noir with a grin. "Not bad."
Cat Noir winked. "Not bad yourself, genius." He held up his fist. "Pound it!"
Hiro rolled his eyes playfully but returned the gesture, their fists bumping in camaraderie. "You really like showing off, don't you?"
"I can't help it," Cat Noir replied, his tone teasing. "It's in my nature."
Just as they were about to head off, Hiro heard a familiar voice from behind him.
"Hey, Hiro! You leave us out of the fun?"
Hiro turned to see the rest of his team; Go Go, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred arriving on the scene. Go Go zipped up on her magnetic wheels, stopping right next to Hiro with her usual no-nonsense expression.
"Who's the cat?" Go Go asked, her eyebrow raised.
Hiro grinned, gesturing to Cat Noir. "Guys, meet Cat Noir. He's been helping me out lately. Cat Noir, this is my team Big Hero 6."
Cat Noir gave a dramatic bow. "Pleasure to meet you all. You've got a great leader here, by the way." He shot Hiro a playful look.
Fred's eyes lit up. "Dude! You've got a tail! That's awesome!"
Cat Noir chuckled. "Thanks, it's one of my best features."
Hiro laughed, shaking his head. "I think we're going to get along just fine." He turned to the team. "What do you guys think about working with Cat Noir for a while?"
Wasabi looked hesitant at first but then shrugged. "As long as he can fight like we can, I'm in."
Go Go gave a small nod of approval. "He kept up, so why not?"
Honey Lemon clapped her hands together, beaming. "Oh, this is going to be so much fun! Welcome to the team!"
Cat Noir grinned, leaning against his staff. "Looks like I'm sticking around, then." He turned to Hiro with a wink. "Guess you're stuck with me, genius."
He rolled his eyes but smiled. "Wouldn't have it any other way."
Later that evening, Hiro found himself back in his room, lounging in his gaming chair while scrolling through his phone. Baymax sat in his charging station nearby, the soft hum of machinery filling the room. Hiro glanced at the time—it was late, but not too late for a good gaming session.
He opened up his laptop and quickly sent a message to Adrien: Hey! Up for some games?_
It didn't take long for Adrien to reply. A few moments later, Hiro's screen lit up with an incoming FaceTime call from Adrien Agreste. Hiro grinned and picked up, seeing Adrien's smiling face pop up on the screen.
"Hey! Ready to get your butt kicked in some games?" Hiro teased, already pulling up the game's interface.
Adrien chuckled, leaning back against a stylish headboard that matched the sleek design of his room. "We'll see about that, genius. I've been practicing."
They spent the next hour or so locked in an intense back-and-forth of battles, flying spaceships, and shooting alien invaders. Adrien's competitive side quickly came out, and Hiro found himself impressed by how much better Adrien had gotten since their last gaming session. The two of them were locked in a tight match when Hiro glanced at his screen during a lull in the action, seeing Adrien more relaxed than he usually seemed.
"So, Adrien," Hiro started casually, keeping his tone light, "I've been meaning to ask you something."
Adrien glanced over at the camera, his green eyes meeting Hiro's through the screen. "Sure, what's up?"
Hiro hesitated for a second, trying to figure out how to word it without sounding too suspicious. "It's just... your dad. Gabriel Agreste. He's taken an interest in me and Baymax lately, and I can't help but wonder why. He seems... I don't know, really intense."
Adrien's playful demeanor shifted slightly, his smile faltering just a bit. He looked away for a moment before answering. "Yeah... my father's always been guarded. Especially since my mom... well, since she passed away."
A pang of sympathy. He knew what it was like to lose someone important his brother Tadashi had meant the world to him, and even now, Hiro still felt the weight of that loss.
"I'm really sorry, Adrien," Hiro said, his voice softening. "I know how hard it is to lose someone close. My brother Tadashi... he died a few years ago in an accident."
Adrien nodded, his eyes reflecting a similar grief. "I had no idea, Hiro. I'm sorry for your loss too."
For a few moments, the room fell into a quiet but comfortable silence, both of them understanding what the other was feeling without needing to say much more.
After a moment, Adrien broke the silence with a small smile. "I'm really glad we became friends, though. It helps to have people around who understand, you know?"
Hiro smiled back. "Yeah, I get that." Personally he thought Adrien was cool even if he was a bit sheltered.
"But about my father..." Adrien added, his expression becoming serious again. "Just be careful around him, okay? He can be ruthless, especially when he's focused on something—or someone. I don't know exactly what his interest in you and Baymax is, but I wouldn't put it past him to have some hidden agenda."
Hiro frowned. "Ruthless? You really think he'd... what, try to use us for something?"
Adrien's face was shadowed with uncertainty. "I'm not sure. I've learned not to underestimate him. He's not the same person he used to be, not since my mom. Just... be on guard."
Hiro nodded slowly, filing away the warning in the back of his mind. He trusted Adrien, and if Adrien thought his father was someone to be cautious of, then Hiro would take it seriously. "Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye out."
Adrien's expression lightened again as he glanced back at the screen. "On a less serious note... hey, I'm going to be in a fashion show next week. You should come! It's in San Fransokyo.
He raised an eyebrow, amused. "You? A model in a fashion show?"
Adrien laughed. "Yeah, believe it or not. It's a big event my father's company is sponsoring, so I'm kind of obligated. But hey, you should check it out, ould be fun!"
He smiled, glad to shift the conversation away from heavy topics. "Alright, I'm in. Sounds like a good time. Just don't expect me to walk the runway."
"Deal," Adrien said, grinning. "You'll just be there to enjoy the show."
As they continued to play, Hiro couldn't help but feel grateful for their friendship. He had a feeling there was more to Gabriel Agreste's interest in him than met the eye, but for now, he was glad to have Adrien's trust—and maybe even a new adventure on the horizon.
