Rubashov orders a drink from the bar and, without the bartender even having to say how much that costs, he pulls out several of those coins he picked up earlier and puts them on the table as Nicholas Rubashov is lifting his mask up to take a drink. The bartender, stunned, asks "How'd you know? Not like you can read Mandarin.", and Nicholas states plainly "I don't know, I just know." Rubashov takes a drink, finding himself saying pretty quietly "This drink is not like Vodka like back in Russia, but it hits spot quite well."
A few minutes later, he hears someone cry out "Criminals!". Then one of them, also wearing a full body covering, takes a swing at him, putting a crack in Nicholas' mask. Nicholas growls and says, "You screwed up now!" and he slams his hammer into their face, they attempt to attack, thrusting a knife to his gut, but he catches it with the sickle he found when he checked what he could use, throwing the knife to the ground and hitting him hard with the hammer, breaking the attacker's skull. Then another attacked, and Rubashov, with his big, strong arms and very sharp sickle, cuts their head clean off. The last one, victim of Rubashov's quick learning and his fully loaded gun he found for whatever reason in that cave he found himself in, Rubashov fires, shooting the last criminal's head before they can even take a step.
Then, breathing heavily, Rubashov passes the bartender an 18% tip. Over in another place nearby, Peter, leader of the Viet Christ movement which called for revolution after he found out the persecution of Christianity, starting with distracting his enemies by conquering Cambodia before he and his fellow Viet Christians quickly did an all-out attack campaign to free and protect persecuted Christians forced into Vietnam, leveraging vastly superior weapons and tactics, to the point that when they tried to send delegations for peace they too ended up dead. Peter, signing the treaty, ending the war which had only been going on for 29 days due to many other nations and even both the emergent Nationalist and Communist China territories quickly pledging support, with nationalists isolated in Taiwan and communists trapped in Nanking, quickly starting an 'Foreign Aid Race', often devolving into violence to steal the other sides cargo and claim it was all their side's supplies to the Viet Christians.
Anyways, back to the treaty. Peter said after signing the treaty, saying that all of Vietnam and Cambodia belonged to him and that a small amount of China bordering Vietnam was also his, "Well, if that's all, then this war is over. Let's call it the Sino-Vietnamese war." He leaves and finds Rubashov, who is relieved to see he's not the only human in this literal world of animals. Peter says, "What's your name, big guy?" and Nicholas state plainly "This is not very good time or place to say that."
