The next day, Jon took it upon himself to go in to work even though Getraer told him to take a few days off. He loved work so he didnt want to take off any more days then needed.

He limped inside and in the corridor,he met his partner.

"John, what are you doing here? Youre supposed to be home resting."

"I dont need rest Ponch. I need to get back to work."

"If Getraer sees you here..."

"Ill talk to him. If I have to, I'll do desk duty until I can get back on my motor. I cant be home."

"Are you even supposed to be walking around?"

"My ankle is fine."

"Whatever you say."

Getraer poked his head out of his office.

"I thought I heard your voice Jon. What are you doing here?"

"I'm ready to get back to work Sarge."

"Not on my watch. Not for a few days."

"I'll do desk duty until I can ride my motor."

"No. Ponch, take him home before he gets hurt."

"Yes sir." Ponch said and lead Jon out of the building.

"Okay. Ill go home on my own. I dont need a babysitter."

"If you came here, clearly you do."

"Fine. Have fun but not too much fun."

Jon left and Ponch went back inside. Briefing had ended before Jon showed up so Ponch mounted his motor but before he took off, Getraer approache him and also mounted his motor. "Guess who your partnering up wuth today Poncherello."

"You?" He asked.

"No. I volunteered Grossman. He'll be out in a minute to meet you."

"Awe Sarge...Why cant I ride alone for a change?"

"Because I dont want you getting into trouble. Look what happened to Baker."

"I'll be careful."

"Yeah. He was too. Remember that."

Ponch and Grossman were riding down Harbor Freeway when Ponch saw a vehicle on the side of the road.

He grabbed his radio. "LA 15 7 Mary 4 and 5. We got an 11-24 and we need an 11-85 at this location."

They stopped behind the vehicle and got off their motors to check out the vehicle. Ponch approached the front of the car. "No one's here."

"Maybe they went to call for help. There's a callbox up ahead." Grossman said.

"Or maybe its abandoned."

Ponch mounted his bike. "I'll check the callbox."

Grossman waved him off and Ponch took off.

Several hours later, Ponch's shift was over. He decided to visit his partner. He took his motor to Jon's apartment. He was still in full uniform as he got to the apartment door. He knocked on it. After a few moments, the door opened.

"Hey Ponch." Jon said as he invited him in.

"Hey. Just wanted to see how my partner is doing."

"I'm fine. Really. See? I'm walking around on my own. I can get back to work tomorrow."

"No you can't. Getraer will have you come back home. You have three days to rest it up."

"I don't need rest Ponch. I did that in the hospital."

"You were only in the hospital for 5 minutes. I don't count that as resting."

"So who's your partner now?"

"What makes you think I'm not riding alone?"

Jon laughed. "You? Getraer would never sign off on that."

"Okay. You got me. I'm riding with Grossie."

Jon sat on his couch and propped his foot up.

"I take it your ankle still hurts."

"Course it does. I was shot yesterday."

"And thats why you have a few days off."

"Okay. I'll take these days off. But I'm doing it reluctantly."

"That's better. Now, do you want to get some food?"

"No. I'm not hungry."

"Okay. Don't say I didnt try."

"Try what?"

"To get you out of the house."

"I dont need you to take me out of the house. I literally left less than an hour ago. Now, if you dont mind, I do have company coming over."

"Okay. I guess I'll see you tomorrow."

As Ponch was headed toward ths door, Jon spoke. "Hey...Thanks for dropping by."

"Anytime."
