Chapter 312
Hiccups POV:
It's been three weeks since Hunter went into the golden dragon armory and received his axes and since then he has improved a little and began using them for things other than fighting like climbing. The way it works is he'd uses his axes to get as climbing hooks and to pull himself up while also using them as grappling hooks that he can toss up and then be pulled up by the chain. He'd been practicing climbing trees and mountains with steep cliffs this way for two weeks now and had already become very skilled at doing so which made me proud with not just his skill but the determination I always saw in his eyes when he trained. It's also why we worked overtime to give him his reward in the form of relocating and repairing his hut and he'd chosen a nice quiet clearing in the forest only a short walk away from the wolves' den, so he'd be able to enter the house through there. There were a few rules though such as he had to be at the house for breakfast, lunch and dinner, he would be continuing his training and he'd be checked on if he was late for any of these things.
A day After that, the bazaar opened up and we used the opportunity to buy some new stuff for his hut since the furniture he had was falling apart, the materials had holes in them from the fire and moths while the décor left a lot to be desired. For my boy, we went all out buying a carpet, some dried fruits he liked, some decorative items, a set of decorative scimitars and more for his hut. Along with that, I helped make some new furniture for him while the girls brought in some spare blankets and warm clothes since the wolves' forest can get chilly at night. We built him a large bed, new chairs, new bookshelf and more with the stuff he either sits, lounges or lays on being lined with alpaca fur to ensure warmth and comfort. We made a path to the wolves' cave that had lanterns on sticks lighting the way for when he went home during the evening with the light source being luminescent stones. I'd say it was pretty comfortable and it was easy to tell he was more comfortable in his own home than he was in the guest room we gave him which is understandable since this was the hut he grew up in with his mother. Made me think of a day when my kids would request their own huts in the different environments on the islands where they felt the most comfortable, but I hoped that wouldn't be for a long time.
As for Havard, he was officially taken into the pack and would now join the other wolves on hunting trips, doing the job of separating a boar from the herd and leading it to the others. I had a feeling that soon he'd go through the same transformation as the other normal wolves and become big as them thanks to the power of Adal. Till then, he'd continue to sleep with Hunter who was used to it and to be honest, I think he preferred it this way since when they still lived with the rest of us, they'd sleep in the same bed, cuddled up together.
Besides that, some of the equipment I'd given my other kids have gone through enhancements that shall be helpful in the long run depending on the situations. For Chara the sash she was given gained the ability to push the oval gem in the center out, leaving an identical one behind while the one which was removed could either be thrown or stuck to something and will explode with force on par with a plasma blast. If thrown, it'll explode on impact while letting out a dark blue smoke and if stuck to the surface of something then it will explode in thirty seconds.
Brant's dagger was also enhanced that would make it a lot deadlier since the blade had changed so the handle was wrapped in red leather and had a pommel that was shaped like a ring with an opening at the bottom that had pointed ends. The other end was identical but both ends had the ability to open a bit more, releasing and extending the blade which could then be launched at enemies with enough force to pierce gronkle iron. I knew this would come in handy during missions where he needed to be less suspicious since when the blade is unsheathed, it just looks like some sort of harmless keepsake.
Egil's boots had also been given their own enhancement, but their form remained the same except for the ice being a little thinner and stronger than it originally was. It was the ice on these boots that the new abilities of these boots lay since the skates they now formed were sharp enough to cut through gronkle iron and able to take another form. The ice could now take the form of small but strong spikes at the bottom of the boots which would allow him to get a better grip on ice and snow while also giving him a more powerful flat foot kick or strong stamp kick on his downed foes. He'd already been practicing his flat foot kicks along with his leg sweeps to knock opponents down before stamping down on them to take them out.
Of course, my kids' weapons weren't the only things to go through enhancements as Hadasa's pod bag had also gone through an enhancement which surprised us a little since she wasn't in combat too often. She had joined Hunter and I on our first bounty hunting missions out of concern for Hunter's safety and my wives felt she was best for the job since being able to control the plants of the forests where our targets were located would help keep him safe. She'd occasionally encounter a few bandits herself and use the pods her bag created to take them down, easily before using the trees to restrain them above and out of sight. Her bags capabilities didn't enhance like Chara's kunai sash and give her new pods but instead just gave her bag a new form which would make things a little easier for her. Her bag was now a palm sized bag, but it still looked like it was made from leaves and the charm that used to hang on its side is now used to tie it close. As for the pods within, they've become seeds that get pushed into her hand when she pushes her fingers in and thinks of which one she wants and when in her hand, they grow into the pods near instantly.
It was shortly after this that I woke up one evening to find Chiaki missing from the bed and used my automatons to find her, only to discover her in the training room. She was fighting with a dragon sword I had but what surprised me though was how skilled she seemed to be with it and how her movements had a form of such grace and beauty. I watched her through the eyes of my automats for an hour before she returned to bed and I pretended to be asleep but when morning came, I confronted her about it. She revealed that before I came along, she feared that defeating her father would be her responsibility, so she took up the sword and began training to one day defeat him, eventually developing her own style of swordsmanship. When she married me though she didn't feel the need to use her style or wield a weapon as she was raised to be a Japanese style wife and they were not trained as warriors but instead were raised to tend to the house, cook meals, raise kids and occasionally play music. She has missed wielding a sword though so for the past few nights she's been sneaking out of bed and took a dragon sword from the armory and would practice in the training room while everyone slept. I asked her why she didn't tell me, and she told me that she was a little worried about how I'd react to her being able to fight since it was out of character for her.
When she told me this, I did the only thing I could think of and pulled her right into a hard kiss before pulling away and holding her as I caressed her face and told her no matter what I'd always love her and her being able to fight made her even more attractive. Once we cleared that up, I took her to the training room and had her demonstrate her style of fighting and seeing it through the eyes of my automatons is nothing in comparison seeing it in person as it was as if she was performing a dance of grace and balance. The only issue was that the sword just didn't seem to match her style somehow, so I took her to the golden dragon armory and allowed her to choose a weapon for herself since she had been training for years and figured she would need her own weapon, especially with the number of enemies I had.
She ended up walking out of the golden dragon armory with a tai chi style sword that had a fox head shaped guard, dark orange leather handle with silver rings, a long string connecting to a tassel that was shaded like a fox's tail with a silver bracelet at the beginning and a flame pattern going down the middle of the blade to the end. This pattern would glow, and the blade would become so hot that it could easily cut through gronkle iron and leave the cut part hot to the touch and like all the other weapons from my armory, could only be used by the one who the weapon chose which in this case is Chiaki. As for how it was kept, the blade was kept in a fire orange sheath with silver rings wrapping around parts and Chiaki was the only one who could unsheathe the blade and had begun carrying it on her back. I'd also begun watching her practice since instead of training with the sword, it looked more like she was performing an intricate yet graceful dance and when on the battlefield it was something I admired and respected. Other than that, nothing has happened besides me releasing more boars than usual into the forest so Hunter could keep up his training as a hunter and taking him on some of my bounty hunting trips to help him gain some real-world combat experience with his axes. This brings us to now, with both Hunter and I standing in the middle of a campsite with multiple bandits tied to the trees using my prosthetics bolas under the watch of Havard and Toothless while Hunter and I went through the crates that held the bandits' ill-gotten gains. So far, we've found gold, jewels, golden statues, furs, herbs, weapons, food, and more while the hut that belonged to the group's leader held some treasures along with furniture. Most of this stuff would be useful to New Berk and since the previous owners were all traders who were killed by the bandits, the stuff had no owners and those who hired me promised I'd be allowed to keep their stolen items as a bonus. I sighed and closed up the last of the crates which had been filled with gold before bringing out my spiderpack and having it expand on the ground while extending my shadow and pulling the bandits into it. Once they were taken care of, I picked up the crate in front of me as I said.
"Alright son, let's load this stuff up and go turn these guys in." Hunter nodded and began helping me load the crates up.
"So how did I do?" I looked at him and smiled.
"You did well but I saw some room for improvement." He raised an eyebrow.
"How?"
"Well, I saw how relaxed your guard was during the battle since Havard was behind you most of the time and even when he wasn't, he was keeping an eye on you." Hunter nodded.
"Yeah, Havard has always had my back since we're rarely apart."
"And there lays the problem." Hunter raised an eyebrow as he dropped a chest into my spiderpack. "You rely too much on Hunter to have your back and that makes you lower your guard which on a battlefield is just asking for trouble." I placed a hand on his shoulder. "You need to stop relying on Havard to watch your back and start focusing on your senses and let them warn you when to watch your back." Hunter nodded.
"Got it dad."
"I'll speak to Earth and the others about how they should spend more time on training you to enhance your senses and focusing them when we get home." He nodded. "Now let's finish loading this stuff up and head back to the ship." He nodded but before we got back to work and
1 hour later
It's been an hour since we'd gathered the stolen goods and bandits and since then we'd dropped off the bandits, claimed the reward and were now back on the ship and sailing home. The reason we weren't immediately opening a portal or just flying back home though was because I wanted to use this time to bond a bit more with my eldest blood child and to begin training him a bit to use his other senses besides his eyes to see. This is why we were now in the ships training room with the windows tinted black so we were in complete darkness and why Hunter was now equipped with two training axes. I stood to the side with my wolf cane and waited for him to say when he was ready and heard him take a breath before saying.
"Alright, I'm ready for some training." I smiled and silently approached him from behind.
"The key is to open up all your senses." He turned around and swung at me, but I easily dodged. "The problem is you believe the only way you can find me in the darkness is with your hearing but there's more ways than that to see without seeing." I could see he was confused so I tapped his shoes using the bottom of my cane, but he saw it as an attack and swung his axes at me, so I stepped back. "Remove your shoes Hunter." He nodded and did so before I tossed them aside. "No matter how slowly or quietly I step, I will always make a small vibration in the ground which you can use to find me." I then released my sentient metal tail and sent the joints to slowly fly around him. "When something moves around you in the air, it will make a silent sound and send a small pulse of wind towards you which you will be able to sense with more training."
"Is this how you learnt how to see without seeing?"
"No, my master actually had me wear a blindfold for weeks to help push my senses to the limit while he beat me senseless but that's a story for another time." He nodded before we continued the training.
3 hours later
We arrived back home an hour ago and that time had been spent sorting through the various treasures we received and hanging up the helmets from the bandits we took as trophies while their ship remained in a bottle on my ship. The treasures took an hour to sort through since the bandits had attacked so many traders and robbed them of their various goods and treasures but I wasn't complaining since it was nice to add some new books to my library while also giving New Berk supplies for the coming winter. Now though, I was sitting on the couch in my private room while sipping some tea as I thought back on how Hunter performed during the mission and during training on the ship. I admit, he did well in both events, all things considered but there was a lot of room for improvement in both cases, but he had time to continue with his training and still be a kid. I was brought out of my thoughts when the messenger cat statue opened its mouth and message was pushed out so I placed my tea down and walked over before taking the message and returning to my original place so I could read the message in comfort. I opened the letter and smiled when I saw it was from Asterix in Gaul and read.
Dear Hiccup
It has been a while since we last saw each other, and I do hope this letter finds you and your family well because we need your help here in the village as things have gone completely mad. The romans have built a residential area with buildings they've called 'The mansion of the gods' for civilians to move in near the village and the civilians have begun coming to our village to buy things which is where the problem began. Thanks to the increase in business, the price of fish and antiques has gone through the roof with everyone beginning to sell them to make money and furthermore the village is always flooded with Roman civilians who we can't bash as it goes against our ways. If that's not bad enough though, the new buildings have driven all the boars out of the forest, so we're forced to buy Unhygienix's overpriced fish. We've tried talking sense into the villagers which include your uncle but none of them are listening so we were hoping you could come by and try knock some sense into them.
Asterix and Obelix
I reread the letter a few times to make sure I truly understood what was happening but to me none of it made sense since it sounded like the Romans had begun turning the forest into what would be the beginning of a city, the Gaul's couldn't stop them because they couldn't harm civilians, due to the new buildings all the boars in the forest have fled leaving nothing to eat but Unhygienix's fish which now cost more, the entire village had become greedy due to the increase of business which has caused it to go crazy and they can't do anything about it because the villagers won't listen to them as they like the increase in business and how much money they're making now. This was hard to believe since the villagers always seemed to take pride in their simple lifestyle and being able to enjoy the peace of the village so it was hard to believe that they were now welcoming a village flooded with civilians and all begun selling fish and antiques. Honestly, I needed to see this for myself and wrote a quick reply to Asterix, telling him I'd be there in two days since I'd need to make preparations and talk to my family about it. Once it was sent, I took off to let everyone know what was going on and how we'd be leaving for Gaul the day after tomorrow.
2 days later
It's been two days since I received the letter from Asterix and none of my wives or children could believe what it said, except for Hunter who hadn't met the Gaul's yet. I couldn't blame them since it was hard to believe which is why preparations were made and a few moments ago, we entered through my portal door to Gaul. This brings us to now, with me and my family walking out of the portal door that was set up a little bit away from the village and as soon as we were out I took a deep breath of the Gaulish air with a smile before we began making our way to the village as I said.
"Alright everyone, remember what Asterix's letter said so keep in mind that this quiet little village is going to be full of tourists and if what Asterix has told me about the people is anything to go by, the villagers are going to start trying to sell us stuff but ignore them."
Everyone nodded before we walked up to the village and stopped in shock since it wasn't filled with tourists but completely deserted with the all the houses having signs claiming a sale for fish or antiques and what's more, Asterix's hut was no more as a tree had been grown where it once was. We walked into the middle of the village and looked around before a voice cried out.
"Hiccup, is that you?" I turned to see the owner of the voice to see Asterix running up to me with a pudgy roman man with brown hear and wearing a blue tunic, with a Roman woman wearing a white stola with green wrap while he long dark brown hair was tied up in a mist green wrap, walking behind him before I walked up to meet them.
"It's good to see you Asterix, but what happened to everyone?" He sighed and looked down sadly.
"They all got offered free rooms at the mansions of the gods and moved there after Obelix and I moved into one of their apartments with Getafix and Cacofonix." I raised an eyebrow hearing what they did. "We had Cacofonix sing yesterday in the hopes to get the civilians to move out after we tried using rain, the smell of Unhygienix's fish and having Obelix make a menhir in the evening didn't work."
"Are you telling me that the sound of Cacofonix's singing didn't send the Romans running."
"Oh no, it did but before they could begin running back to Rome, he got a fish to the face to silence him and a threat of being hit in the head with a hammer to keep him silent."
"I take it that's when everyone arrived to move in." He nodded before the Roman man behind him said.
"They got free apartments for their trouble while me and my family were thrown out after all of our trouble." I raised an eyebrow.
"And you are?" He looked at me and held out his hand.
"Oh, I'm Anonymus and this is my wife Dulcia." I took his hand and shook it.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Hiccup and this is my family." We did a quick introduction. "May I ask why you're here in the village." He sighed and looked down.
"It's a long story." I shrugged.
"Well, I think we have time and I'd like to get all the information I can before I do anything so let's hear it." He smiled before we all sat down at the table, and he began explaining everything.
1 hour later
I'd been told what happened and I was not happy since apparently Anonymus was with his wife Dulcia and their son Mischiefus at the coliseum, where they won a free apartment and since it was either the apartment or the lions they left Rome to come live in Gaul. Unfortunately, they needed complete forms to get their apartment, so they were kicked out and given shelter in the village when Obelix found them and brought them back. He spent three days gathering all the forms which were made of marble and after two attempts he had to bring in a literal wagon load with his son to finally get their apartment. Last night though when they'd finally moved in, some Roman legionaries threw them out to make room for what they were told were more important guests. After that they had nowhere to go but the village which had been deserted by all but Asterix, Obelix and Getafix so there was plenty of room for the family to stay. When it came to Asterix's hut though, Asterix explained that Getafix had given him and Obelix acorns he'd dipped in magic potion to grow the trees instantly when they were being uprooted to make room for the buildings and Obelix had an extra he threw on the floor resulting in a tree lifting his hut up which then fell down and fell apart when it hit the ground. He also explained how they gave the slaves magic potion to free themselves but instead, it just sped up the construction for them since they were promised fair wages, jobs, apartments in the mansions of the gods and full Roman citizenship.
This brings us to now, with me going to see my uncle Vitalstatistix and Aunt Impedimenta to try and see if I would have any luck knocking some sense into them and the other Gauls. It was then as I passed through some bushes that I saw something that made me freeze in place while also making my jaw drop in complete shock. The reason is I saw the Gauls which included my aunt and uncle, but I had to do a double take since they were all dressed as Roman civilians with my uncle Vitalstatistix going so far as to wear a golden laurel wreath and replace his shield with the top of a Roman pillar which I could tell his shield bearers weren't too thrilled with.
Knowing that I needed to make things clear that I didn't even recognize them now, I took a breath and marched out of the forest and made my way into the crowd. As expected, I was noticed almost immediately since a one-eyed guy in a long black coat, leather armor, a headband, feather and beads in his hair and metal covered gloves on his hands was bound to catch the attention among people all wearing traditional Roman attire. I was brought out of my thoughts by the familiar voice of my Uncle Vitalstatistix crying out.
"HICCUP, IS THAT YOU?" I saw my uncle Vitalstatistix and Aunt Impedimenta rushing over to greet me, both wearing traditional Roman attire and it made me sick, especially how aunt Impedimenta was going so far as to carry a Roman fan with her. "It's so good to see you again lad." I looked him up and down.
"I wish I could say the same." They both stopped in their tracks. "What in Midgard has happened to you both." I gestured to them. "You both look like Romans." Before uncle Vitalstatistix could reply, Aunt Impedimenta said.
"Well, we were offered a free apartment in the mansions of the gods and with it being closer to our customers we accepted and we had to look the part so we didn't wish to make any of them feel uncomfortable with the rustic gaulish attire and these robes are made of much nicer material." I raised an eyebrow.
"Customers?" Uncle Vitalstatistix answered.
"Well yes, you see when a lost family of Roman civilians came along, they began taking an interest in our village and since we couldn't thump them, and they did offer to pay for our goods we began selling to them and soon more civilians came by and our village began to gain more and more paying customers." I nodded. "Soon everyone was selling either fish or antiques and as the chief I couldn't be left behind, so I joined in and when we all were offered free apartment, we thought it'd be good for business and we're all making a lot of money." I raised an eyebrow.
"This is about keeping customers happy to make more money." He nodded "And what happened to wanting nothing more than a quiet life bashing up Romans and hunting boar in the forest with friends?" He shrugged.
"Well times change as do interests." Before I could reply a voice cried out.
"Well, hello there, I thought I recognized that voice." I turned to see a bald, plump Roman with a long nose running up to me. "Is that you Hiccup Haddock."
I nodded and went through my memories before I remembered that this man and I met a few times at the big parties Caesar threw in Rome and remembered he was senator Prospectus. From what I remember, he's a big kiss-up who tried to convince me to join Caesar's army to conquer the known world while making various claims of what I could get out of it. I could already feel a headache forming as I remembered the hour long wait as he told me how I'd start out as a Centurion and how I'd be able to loot a fortune from my campaigns and since I'd be using my own forces, all the looted items would be mine along with plots of land. He didn't stop there, also claiming in addition to wealth I'd be able to have numerous slaves to cater to my every whim when I wasn't out spreading the glory of Rome which included beautiful slave girls and also how I would easily make it into the senate within three years before telling me how Brant would also make a great Centurion who would make it into the senate when he was old enough. It got worse with each party I attended and even more so than whenever I came back to Rome after one of my adventures which earned me new items from the gods. It got to the point he would show up at places I'd frequent like the bath houses steam room when I needed a good sweat, the market when I was doing my shopping, the legionaries training grounds when I went to train with them a bit, at every party I went to and even when I was at my Roman home enjoying some down time. Seeing him here, I knew I was going to receive some headaches, and this was confirmed when he ran up to me and said.
"I should have known you'd be here soon for the big event that's happening tomorrow." I raised an eyebrow. "Now if you will follow me, we can easily find you an apartment to stay in for your stay, free of charge of course." Wanting to know what this big event was, I went along with him to one of the lobbies which had a marble desk in the middle with a mosaic on the left that had a design of the building and the guy behind the desk but before I could take anything in, Prospectus walked up to the desk. "One apartment for our esteemed guest." The man behind the guest who I saw had black hair that was split apart and held up by a yellow band and wearing a white and yellow tunic.
"My apologies sir but there aren't any room available since we gave apartments to the legionaries." Before Prospectus could reply, I held up my hand to him and said.
"It's alright, I'm staying with my family in the Gaulish village." Prospectus shook his head.
"No, that will not do for an esteemed hero like you, especially with tomorrows events." I sighed.
"And what are tomorrows events?"
"Why, tomorrow it will mark a great day in the history of Rome but I'm afraid I cannot tell you how the village is involved as it is meant to be a surprise for the residents." I nodded.
"Then could you at least tell me what's with all the buildings and why the Gaul's are living in them?"
"Oh yes, it was another brilliant idea made by Caesar to complete the conquest of gold and you have seen how well it's worked." I gestured for him to go on. "The way it works is we created one building for Roman civilians to move into away from Rome so they could enjoy the countryside and plans to expand and expose the Gaul's to the wonders of Roman life and slowly Romanize them." He smiled. "I admit we weren't expecting the civilians to go to their village but we're not complaining as it helped expose them to the benefits of Roman life and absorb them into the Roman empire faster and now the rebel Gaul's are no more and in their place are Romans." I felt my blood boil as he explained the plan, but I wasn't just angry about what he'd done to the Gaul's but because this plan was sneaky, dishonest and above all, there was no honor in it. "Now, tomorrow we shall be welcoming Caesar himself who will be coming in order to see Romes final victory over the Gaul's." I nodded knowing that when Caesar arrived, I was going to need to have a long chat with him but for now, I needed to get some air and try to knock some sense into my relatives.
"Alright, I need to go talk to my relatives in the meantime." He nodded.
"I understand, but don't worry since as soon as the next building is up, I shall have the entire top floor reserved for you and your family so each member may have their own apartment." I smiled and nodded before leaving.
Sunrise
It's been one night since I went to the mansion of the gods to try knock some sense into not only my relatives and all I got was a headache when they just pointed out the various benefits and the fortune they'd made since the civilians moved to Gaul. After I realized, I wasn't going to get through to them, I decided it best I wait till Caesar arrived so I could talk to him about this entire mess he'd created. When I got back to the village though, Anonymus and Dulcia were looking for Mischiefus, fearing something had happened to him when they found his little wooden Hercules floating in the river. A few minutes later though, Obelix came back looking for Mischiefus since they were together, but he passed out from hunger and when he came to, Mischiefus was gone and like any good parents, Anonymus and Dulcia went looking for him with Obelix following. Wanting to help them I sent out some of my Scouter automatons and released Toothless, Stormfly and Lianhua so we could search from the sky with Chiaki and Hadasa staying behind to watch over the babies but I did summon my ninja masters to watch over them and village with Asterix while my older kids went after Anonymus and Dulcia to help look for them.
We'd spent the entire evening searching for them, losing Obelix who in his hunger filled daze was captured by the Romans who took us to the mansion of the gods before we could save him. This turned out to be a good thing though since it led to me discovering both Mischiefus and Getafix in a cage that was surprisingly being dangled in the lobby of one of the mansions of the gods. Now I was standing in front of the locked entrance to the mansion of the gods with Astrid, Blanca, the kids and our dragons along with Anonymus and Dulcia who had just joined us a few moments ago. Before we could begin trying to get in though, I heard something flying towards us and saw Asterix flying towards us and quickly caught him and let him down while asking.
"Asterix, what's going on?"
"The Romans are attacking the village and although the others are stalling them by making them think we still have magic potion, it won't fool them for long." He then pulled out his own flask which now had an arrow in it which made a big hole. "I'm also out of potion and came looking for you to see if you might have found where Obelix is." I grabbed him by the shoulder.
"Are Chiaki, Hadasa and the babies alright?" He nodded.
"I sent them to hide at Obelix's quarry." I sighed in relief before turning to the girls.
"Send the dragons to go and collect them since if the Romans catch on, I don't want to run the risk of any of them getting hurt." They nodded before we sent our dragons to go get them and then turned, my attention back to the door.
"Obelix, Getafix and Mischiefus are inside."
"Are you sure." I nodded as I looked at Anonymus who was trying to force the door open before I walked up and pulled him away from the door.
"Allow me." I pulled out my red bell and gently rang it, unlocking the door before I put it away and walked in but the moment he saw us, the head architect who was also the manager, Squaronthehypotenus, saw us he cried out.
"GUARDS, INTRUDERS!" As soon as he was done speaking, a young boy with dark brown hair, wearing a white tunic who I knew to be Mischiefus since he was sitting in a cage with Getafix and Dogmatix that was being dangled cried out.
"We're up here." As soon as he said that his mother cried out his name while Asterix demanded their release as two large Roman legionaries walked up ready to grab him but as soon as they jumped at him I pulled Asterix back and said.
"You get the architect to tell you where Obelix is, I'll deal with the guards."
He nodded and ran for the architect while I walked towards the guards who charged at me, but I simply grabbed one by the arm and threw him into his friend, sending them both into the mosaic on the wall. Before they could recover, the tiles that made the mosaic began pouring down on them, burying them and taking them out of the fight while the girls lowered the cage down before Anonymus opened the cage. I smiled at the reunion between father and son and let out a little laugh when Anonymus mentioned how he told them that the mosaic was sloppy. It was then the door opened again to reveal Chiaki and Hadasa holding the babies with our dragons at their sides but before anyone could ask or say anything, Asterix cried out.
"WHERE IS OBELIX?" I turned to see Squaronthehypotenus now had a black eye and a few teeth missing but before he could answer, Getafix stepped out of the cage while saying.
"We don't have time to look for him Asterix, we need to make the magic potion immediately and I'll need everyone's help." I pulled out my own flask of magic potion.
"I still have the one you gave me Getafix, I'm not sure if it'll help but it could at least help buy us some time." He smiled and took it from me.
"It may not be much, but it can help speed up the preparation of more potion." I smiled before I pulled the dragons into my shadow and we all took off to help prepare more potion and a few minutes later, we were in an apartment. "Alright, I'm going to need a fire started and numerous ingredients along with something to prepare the potion in." I smiled and pulled out my crystal fire.
"Focus on finding ingredients and something to prepare the potion in." I placed the crystal fire on the ground, and it immediately grew to normal size and heated up. "Fire's already taken care of." Getafix smiled at me before the kids and Dogmatix ran to grab ingredients and other items from the various apartments while I pulled off my spiderpack and began raising various herbs from it while everyone else piled them up to see if Getafix could use them.
10 minutes later
Although it had only been ten minutes since we started, a lot has happened such as the romans who attacked the village returning in fear and hiding in their apartments. Unfortunately, the Gaul's arrived out of breath which was all the proof needed for the legionaries that they didn't have the magic potion which was all the incentive they needed to attack. During the chase though, senator Prospectus arrived with Caesar with the senator demanding to know what was going on right before Caesar interrupted Squaronthehypotenus speech and ordered the feast to be thrown away which was a real waste in my opinion. After that he had the Gaul's arrested which led to Asterix drinking the unfinished potion despite Getafix's warning, with the potion working for a few seconds before he flew around hiccupping and then falling to the ground barely conscious. Caesar told Asterix to admit defeat but when he refused senator Prospectus picked him up by the arm and began bragging which is when I decided to step in and jumped from the window, spreading my wings and glided down to the ground before yelling.
"SHUT UP!" This turned all attention to me as I walked towards them. "This is no victory to gloat about." When I reached senator Prospectus. "Your tactic that brought you this victory was sneaky and underhanded with no sense of any form of honor." I shook my head and looked to Caesar. "When Asterix told me about what had happened I didn't believe it since I knew you were a man of honor from your many victories and glorious battles Caesar but now, I'm beginning to question if you are still that man who I admired and was proud to call a friend." Before he could reply senator Prospectus walked up.
"Now Hiccup, I know this may not be a glorious victory but it's still a victory." He held Asterix up. "AND THIS VICTORY WILL ENSURE THAT THIS STUPID, ARROGANT LITTLE WARRIOR WILL BE KEEPING HIS BIG FAT ACCOMPLISE COMPANY IN THE DUNGEON!" As soon as he finished saying that a hand holding a leg of boar with a bite taken out of it burst from the ground and pulled a flower and sauce covered Obelix holding a slice of cake in his other hand out, making senator Prospectus drop Asterix before he said.
"Nobody calls me FAT!"
He then knocked senator Prospectus into the ground so only his head was sticking out before he ate the leg of boar and then noticing the legionaries and grabbed one of them by the leg and used him to swat the other legionaries. This gave the Gaul's the inspiration they needed and allowed a weak Asterix to stand up and gave the order to attack before he fell back into the arms of fulliautomatix before the Gaul's cried out to attack and charged forward with the Romans doing the same. While they charged at each other, I ran back to the wall and released the legs of my spiderpack to climb it to get back to the room so I could help prepare the potion and keep the Romans from entering the room before it was ready.
5 minutes later
The potion had been complete, Obelix had poured it down into the mouths of the Gaul's which included Asterix while leaving enough for me, my family along with Anonymus and his family which allowed all of us to pummel the Romans. Now the battle was over and Caesar was the only Roman still standing uninjured with all of us standing across from him with Asterix and I at the front. Before either of them could say a word though I sighed and asked.
"Caesar, what in the world were you thinking when you used this deceitful and underhanded idea to try and defeat the Gauls?"
"Well, what can I say, you get an idea and you try it with it sometimes working and sometimes not." Asterix then stepped up.
"You're going back to Rome and you're taking the civilians with you." He pointed to the unhappy civilians who were watching us. "Remember, you owe them luxury accommodations and don't forget, there is a village in Britany which you will never conquer now or ever." The Gaul's cheered.
"So be it." He then turned to me. "Despite how things have ended, it was nice to see you again old friend." I smiled and nodded.
"You to Caesar and remember, a victory without honor is a victory worth nothing." He nodded and turned around to begin leading everyone away to begin the journey back to Rome.
Nightfall
Caesar and all the Romes had left, the various mansions of the gods had been torn down by Obelix who was given a small sip of the magic potion which turned him into a charging ball of destruction that surpassed a catastrophic quaken and tore all the buildings down in seconds. Following that, Getafix provided us with acorns dipped in magic potion which grew the trees nearly instantly which helped get the forest back to normal but there were still a few parts of the mansions of the gods including two floors of one of the buildings. Shortly after that we said goodbye to Anonymus and his family with Getafix giving him something to remember them by, but I wasn't sure what while Obelix gave Mischiefus a palm sized menhir.
Now though, we were all enjoying a feast on the runes of the mansion of the gods while Asterix teased them about how they were all dressed as Gaul's in a mosaic Anonymus left Asterix. I looked out at the forest and smiled when I saw that the boars had already begun returning along with the birds and I knew that things would be back to normal for the village in no time. For now, though, I figure I should stick around for a few days just to make sure nobody falls back into the habits they'd formed while living as Roman civilians and it would give Hunter a chance to know his relatives. For now, though, I held up my horn of wine and toasted to another victory against the romans and to a fine vacation with me and my family.
AN: And that brings an end to this chapter and yeah, I know it's not that great but I wanted Hiccup to get a reason to visit his relatives in Gaul so I could do a few Asterix and Obelix chapters. Also, for those of you who are curious about this chapter, I did the film 'Asterix and the mansions of the gods' instead of the book but the next ones will be based on the books so please look forward to them. With all that said, have a nice day and remember to review.
