"Once upon a time, in a world and time very far in the future, and very far into the past, there lived a half demon named Inuyasha. Inuyasha was a being set to be scorned for his mere existence but through it all he found love. He married a human woman by the name of Kagome, and they had a young daughter name Moroha. Through the battles and lifelong scars, their love persisted, and even on her deathbed their love was strong. After his wife passed, he began to wander. He stayed nearby his daughter, but she soon passed away too. Leaving him alone…again. He began to wander further and further, wondering why he had to live such a hard life. He found it unfair, and unjust. He wanted to die but he couldn't. His youkai wouldn't allow it and it seemed like the gods found his struggle amusing. It angered him. So, he packed away his things, he would be going on a journey that would last a while.
The last person he saw before going on his journey, was his elder brother. He didn't know what he felt about this elder brother who'd always hated him, but only tolerated his existence now. He'd already lost so many family members that he didn't think much about his warning. With that he turned his back on his brother.
Sesshomaru fought through the worst of it. He wouldn't let youkai become a fable. Through hard work, meticulous, systemic domination, and culling, he made it work. He was exalted as a savior of youkai but that wasn't true. He wouldn't have done anything had it not been for Inuyasha's warning. Even now, he didn't know why he took action. Why he decided to protect the weak. Then his daughters died, and he realized why. Why he struggled so much to remake the world. He cared a lot more for his family members than he would admit. Now they were gone, and only one was left.
The one who'd disappeared.
He began searching for his hanyou sibling, knowing it was in vain as hanyou died much earlier than youkai did. If his daughters were no longer alive why would the older hanyou be? However, still he searched until he couldn't anymore. He let him go. He gave up. Inuyasha was nowhere to be found so Inuyasha, the one who persevered through it all, must have long since died.
This was the truth the lord accepted, so he continued in his duties. Afterall, he had nothing else.
The castle was bright and bustling. His footsteps couldn't be heard as he made his way through the halls, and no one seemed to notice him. That was on purpose though; he followed his nose to his desired location. Things had changed so much, and he was so surprised Sesshomaru had heeded his warnings. This was an amazing place, but he did wonder what was going on. He stopped at a large set of open doors. Walking through, he was ignored until he made it a certain way, and a guard finally noticed him. "Halt! Who are you and what are you doing in the throne room!?"
All at once, all eyes turned to him, they finally seemed to see him, and his presence solidified. "Stand down." Was a cool even voice. Everyone watched as the lord of the lands descended the stairs in shock. Why would the king ever approach anyone? "Otouto…? You're alive…."
Inuyasha gave a tense smile as he was approached. All others in the room were shocked as all assumed the lord didn't have any family members. Weapons were retracted and they all bowed.
Inuyasha whistled as he looked around. "I see you took my warning seriously. Things are so different." He continued looking around as everyone stared at him.
"Where…have you been?" Sesshomaru came a lot closer than the hanyou was expecting. He'd thought his younger brother had long since passed from the world, as his daughters did. They'd only lived to about 400 years and passed from old age. He assumed the same had befallen his sibling after his woman and child passed.
"Yeah, that's a long story." Inuyasha rubbed the back of his neck. He was still on guard as he wasn't sure about Sesshomaru's animosity. Looking around at all the confused faces he could tell his existence wasn't known. Why would he be? Why would Sesshomaru ever talk about him? He brushed it off and looked directly at the still stunned man.
"Why have you only now just returned?" He asked, taking in Inuyasha, noticing how there was a slight glow to him. The unknown power gave him pause. Was this really his younger brother?
"That's…also a long ass story. Can't really talk about it in front of all these people." Inuyasha made a point of looking at the people coming closer to them to get a glimpse of him.
"Leave." Sesshomaru ordered. Everyone began scrambling from the room.
"Damn. Still rude as hell I see." Inuyasha couldn't help but laugh this time. He then sighed, looking back at his estranged brother, and wondering how he was going to react to his story. "Alright so the simplest thing I can say is that I need your help." Sesshomaru scowled. It would be a cold day in hell before Inuyasha asked for his help. "And listen, if I had any other choice I sure as hell wouldn't be asking you of all fucking people." That sounded more like his brother.
"Where have you been? It's been 1000 years since I last saw you." Sesshomaru interrupted him.
Inuyasha's eyes widened, "Damn…I didn't realize how fast time was moving while I was there."
Inuyasha began mumbling to himself as he thought. "While you were where?" Sesshomaru stated firmly, catching Inuyasha's attention. His sibling was a bit different from before. He looked healthier but still, different.
"The realm of the gods." Inuyasha stated, shocking Sesshomaru. How was that possible? "Look I know what you're thinking. What was my hanyou ass doing there?" Inuyasha took a deep breath. "I was really tired. Really fucking tired but I just couldn't fucking die. No matter what happened to me, it would heal, and I'd wake up. So, I prayed for an answer…and found out my life is a fucking joke. A big fucking joke for those fucking bastards. Everything I've had to experience, they orchestrated. No one fucks with me and gets away with it. I'm going to kill them all, but to do that I need power. The same power they have."
"So, you're trying to become a god…?" Sesshomaru found this ridiculous.
Inuyasha smirked, "Not trying. I am. But my power isn't complete yet. According to the fates, this is my path. Once I get what I need from you, I'll have the strength to kill the ones who decided to toy with me. I'll kill them all. The fates said that my soul is a reincarnation of the old sun god and I'm supposed to rise to that power again. Those old gods that were fucking with me are the old sun gods' enemies, and that's why. So, I'm going to kill them. And I guess I could give the god thing a try…not like I can just die, even if I wanted to."
Sesshomaru nodded. It was such a strange and wild story, but even the story of his birth was strange and wild. "What is it that you need from me?"
"That's the fucking thing. They wouldn't fucking tell me. So, if you're willin'ta help. I guess I'll be here for a bit."
"I understand. Come with me Inuyasha." Sesshomaru turned and began walking. Inuyasha was wary but followed behind him. Even if Sesshomaru attacked him, he could defeat him quite easily now anyway.
Inuyasha followed him through the large castle to the family wing and into a set of rooms. "Wait a moment." Sesshomaru disappeared behind a door and came back holding Tenseiga.
"Oh, that's genius! The sword of heaven! Are you…sure you want to give that to me?" Inuyasha questioned.
"I have no use for it. It is father's sword, if it can assist you, I'm willing to give it up." Sesshomaru explained.
"Heh, trying to get rid of me so quickly." Inuyasha chuckled. However, that wasn't true. Sesshomaru would prefer if his brother stayed for the foreseeable future. Although, he had many misdeeds to make up for. He planned to help Inuyasha in any way that he could. Even if it meant giving up the sword he'd grown so attached to.
Inuyasha took the sword in his hands and waited for a while before frowning. He knew what a breakthrough felt like and was told this final breakthrough wouldn't be like anything he'd ever experienced. "Damn. I was really hoping this was it." He sighed and handed the sword back to Sesshomaru. "Fuck." He suddenly looked off to the side. His eyes seemed to be staring far away and he blinked slowly before smiling a bit.
"What has happened?"
Inuyasha didn't look at him, "There's a little girl praying to the sun…asking it to help the flowers and vegetables grow well." He snapped his finger and Sesshomaru felt a rush of power. It was incredible. "Oh, I can hear prayers…but only those made through good will, to a shrine, or to the sun directly. I tune them out most of the time, but she sounded like Moroha when she was tiny."
Sesshomaru nodded. His brother was so different and strange. "Come." The lord began to lead him to a different set of rooms. "You may use these as your chambers. I'll assign a set of servants to assist you and hep you adjust to the times while we figure out what it is that you need.
Inuyasha nodded, grateful that his brother wasn't giving him a hard time. "I appreciate it, thanks." Sesshomaru nodded and thought to contact a few people about his brother's surprising return. It was unprecedented and he was sure there would be a bit of an uproar by those in his court. He'd been the lord of these lands for centuries, he smirked, Inuyasha could assist him with a few things as well.
It was true, the palace had been thrown into an uproar. The return of a brother that no one knew about, a brother that Sesshomaru had never spoken about. It was during dinner that the many people in the palace got a glimpse of him. He sat at the table, eating the various foods carelessly. Even before Lord Sesshomaru had taken a bite, signaling for others to start. This new brother took no heed and ate as he pleased, while the lord merely watched him. "M-milord….we hadn't known you to have a brother…" One adviser started.
"You never asked." Sesshomaru clipped coldly. Inuyasha had no interest in what they were talking about and only focused on the delicious hot food he'd been missing.
"B-but surely this is something you…could have….mentioned at least once." They tried.
"Yes, I think this is important for us to know!" another agreed.
"Those who needed to know, know. How would knowledge of my younger brother assist you?" Sesshomaru glared at the man, who began to sputter and stutter stupidly.
Inuyasha snorted in laughter, "Hey don't get your panties in a twist. Not like I'm staying. I just needed a favor from my dear aniue."
"…You don't wish to be a part of the court?" Someone asked.
"Why would I do something stupid like that? So, this bastard can try n order me around like some servant? Fuck no." Everyone in the room paled. No one would dare insult his majesty in such a way. However, his majesty didn't seem bothered and took a sip of his wine quietly.
"I hope you do not plan to continue to insult me in front of my court Inuyasha." Sesshomaru said coldly.
"See there he goes with his bullshit already. Wow 1000 years and you're still an icy asshole." Inuyasha laughed happily.
The door opened suddenly and Inuyasha's eyes widened, "Oh wow, you're still alive!" Inuyasha chuckled at the shocked face of the toad.
"I thought you were dead!" The green imp grumbled as he made his way to where his lord sat.
"I definitely thought he would've killed your annoying ass years ago." Inuyasha took a large bite out of the turkey leg he was holding.
"And I see you still act like a mannerless heathen!" Jaken squawked. There had been rumors of a returned brother and he needed to confirm with his own eyes. He was surprised but very curious about why the hanyou hadn't passed away yet like his lord's daughters.
"Master Jaken…you were aware of the lord's brother?" One of the advisers asked.
"Yes. This is Inuyasha. Our lord's younger half-brother." Jaken grumbled. "Where have you been all this time!?"
Inuyasha smiled, "I don't feel like telling you, ass." He began to focus back on the food, ignoring the fuming Jaken.
"How dare you! My poor lord spent 100s of years looking for any sign of you in vain!" Jaken growled angrily.
This caused Inuyasha to pause, mid bite, and look at his brother. "You…were looking for me?"
"Yes! Oh, how my lord wandered, scouring the lands. Spending so much of the wealth he accumulated for even a sign of his foolish younger brother." Jaken wailed.
This was beginning to make Inuyasha uncomfortable. Why would Sesshomaru search for him? He barely even tolerated the fact that they breathed the same air. So why? Sesshomaru merely continued to drink his wine before answering, "Is it unreasonable to search for you, when you suddenly disappeared after warning me of the future?"
"Oh….well….thanks…I guess...?" Inuyasha didn't really know what to say. He hadn't been expecting that from Sesshomaru.
"I suppose that fox'll…" This time the doors slammed open, and a red head came barreling in.
"Inuyasha!" With a large poof, the grown man took on his childhood form as he flew into the hanyou's arms.
"General!" Soldier's came in behind him, surprised to see their mighty general in tears.
"Whoa! Shippo? Calm down!" Inuyasha hadn't seen him in so long. He was still technically a child when he left.
"Do you even know how hard it was when you left!" He cried harshly. He too, thought his adoptive father had long since passed from the world.
"General Shippo! Even you knew of Lord Sesshomaru's brother!?" An adviser shouted.
Shippo paid no attention and continued to cry like a child in Inuyasha's arms. "My brother raised him. He is essentially his father." Lord Sesshomaru explained.
Inuyasha was starting to get annoyed and hit the kit over the head. "Stop cryin' like you're still a little kid! Turn back to normal…let me see the grown up you."
Shippo slowed to sniffles and stood on his own. He returned to his true form and Inuyasha smiled happily. "Look at you. You're still not taller than me, heheh." Inuyasha was giving him such a proud look that Shippo began to sob again. "You grew up so well. I'm proud." He then hugged him tightly. "I'm sorry for leaving so suddenly…I really am." Shippo had grown well. To have 5 tails at his current age was truly a feat.
Shippo took in Inuyasha's scent deeply. He really missed him more than anything. "I know I gave you a really hard time when I was a kid…" He sobbed harshly, "But thank you so much! For everything!" He'd always wanted to tell Inuyasha that. When he finally worked up the courage, Inuyasha had left with a short goodbye. Inuyasha nodded, he never forgot about Shippo, even when he wanted to die. He asked Kouga to look after the kit for him, which he and Ayame agreed to.
"Lord Sesshomaru has a brother….who's son is the 2nd general…what else are we missing!?" An adviser grumbled. They apparently weren't privy to much it seemed.
Inuyasha was finally released when Shippo began to calm down. The soldiers were standing in shock, their cold and serious general had cried so harshly in the arms of his father. They were uncomfortable. "Come on Shippo, stop actin' like a little kid. I'm back."
Shippo nodded, "Yeah…welcome home…" He still seemed like he would burst into tears again.
"Let's make sure to catch up alright kid?" Inuyasha suggested. Shippo nodded happily before running off. Inuyasha took a deep breath, "Wasn't expecting him to react like that." He sat down heavily and the silence in the room was heavy.
An adviser was about to ask another question but was interrupted, "You gotta lot of explaining to do you fucking bastard!" The loud rough voice yelled, coming into the dining room. The front of Inuyasha's clothes were grabbed, "Where the fuck have you been you, mangy mutt!?"
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "Ugh, I was hoping you died. Flea bitten bastard." He was expecting the wolf to start cursing his name but when he was hugged, he was immediately uncomfortable.
"Everyone was searching for you, you inconsiderate jackass." The wolf released him and pushed him away before storming off.
"Even…the prime minister…" The adviser sat down. Their minds were reeling from all of the information.
"Prime minister." Kouga stopped at the door at Sesshomaru's voice. "I would like your assistance in helping Inuyasha become assimilated to the times. As for the advisers, Inuyasha has always been second in line for the throne. Nothing has changed." The advisers were shocked to silence.
"I…understand…I'll have an announcement made and free up some time." The wolf's voice quivered, and he finally took off.
Inuyasha was standing there completely bewildered by the situation. There was no way the wolf missed him…was there? He looked to his brother who seemed completely unbothered. "Did you think no one would care for your absence?" Sesshomaru asked quietly. "You…who have saved so many. Why wouldn't you be missed?"
Inuyasha said nothing. He truly hadn't thought so much about it. The only one he assumed would even notice his absence was Shippo. He didn't think he was close to Kouga at all. So…why did the wolf hug him like that? It was all very confusing. He was so confused that he couldn't even eat the rest of the food. When dinner was over, Inuyasha was led back to his chambers and took a bath. The water was very lukewarm to he, who held the power of the sun. He heated the water til it boiled and relaxed happily. He dressed in the pajamas of the time with assistance before falling asleep. Well, he tried to. He could hear prayers, and the random words of the creatures under his domain. He began to tune them out until it was silent, and he fell asleep.

In the morning, Inuyasha woke at sunrise. Half dressed he made his way the highest point he could and stared at the sun. He shared his power with it and allowed it to embrace him. The feeling wasn't as strong as it used to be. He could tell he was missing something. Missing a piece of his power. "I was informed that you were here in a state of undress." A cold voice behind him sounded.
"I was talking to my ego." Inuyasha explained before turning to look at the lord. "I don't think I'll ever get used to seeing you dressed like that."
Sesshomaru ignored his comment about his clothing and joined him where he sat. "What do you mean your ego?"
Inuyasha pointed at the sun. "The sun is my ego. It's me. I don't really know how to explain it to a mortal." Sesshomaru wanted to scoff. Who was mortal? The hanyou looked at him, then smirked, "Any being capable of dying a natural death is mortal, mortal." Sesshomaru watched as the slight glow around Inuyasha increased and the temperature around him increased as well. He stood a moment later, "I'm done. What should I do today?" He held a handout to the lord who looked at it before taking it.
"I thought you didn't want to be ordered around by a bastard like me." Sesshoumaru snorted, feeling something warm passing through him. It was odd.
Inuyasha snorted as he laughed. He never expected that. "I don't but you said I gotta get used to living here since we don't know when I'll get what I need, right?" He released his hand.
"Yes. Kouga will be helping you with most things. If there is something you require, let me know." Sesshomaru nodded. Inuyasha agreed and they descended back into the castle. It felt strange, walking side by side with his elder brother who, in the past, could barely look at him without curling his lip in disgust.
It was only he and Sesshomaru for breakfast after he was dressed to match the times. Breakfast was quiet and uneventful aside from the unwavering stare Inuyasha was receiving from his brother. He was then handed a small box. Opening it he didn't understand the thin piece of metal. "It is a smartphone. It's a communication device."
"Like a communication stone?" Inuyasha questioned.
"Yes, very similar. However, this was developed by humanity." Sesshomaru explained. "Kouga will teach you how to use it."
Inuyasha nodded as he fiddled with the fragile thing. He paused after a moment, "Could I ask you a question?"
"What is it?"
"Why do you believe me?" Inuyasha looked at him, "I could be lying. I could be some weird imposter unmother thing. I could be anything but who I say I am."
Sesshomaru sighed and narrowed his eyes. "Only my little brother is brave or foolish enough to try and pick a fight with gods."
"Really!? Is that the only reason?" Inuyasha questioned.
"Tenseiga was speaking to Tetsuaiga. And I'm sure my younger brother wouldn't even let someone pry it from his cold, dead hands." This time Inuyasha began to laugh. That was something Sesshomaru noticed, he laughed even more freely than he had when he was with his woman.
"Yeah, I forgot they can communicate when close together. I'm glad it helped my credibility." Inuyasha continued to chuckle.
Sesshomaru took in this older, more mature younger brother. The one who held no fear, no animalistic need to fight in order to survive. This Inuyasha was powerful, and he was content in that power. "Well, I have work to attend to. I shall leave you to yourself. Kouga will join you in a few hours."
Inuyasha nodded. As Sesshomaru left he realized he was feeling a little disappointed. He didn't realized it'd be this easy and comfortable to talk to his elder brother. He found himself feeling happy that he still lived yet again.
Instead of going back to his rooms, Inuyasha began to wander the palace halls. He eventually found the training grounds and watch his kit bark orders at his soldiers. The fox's eyes widened, and he brightened up immediately. "Inuyasha!" He hurried over.
"Hey, don't let me distract you from your work." Inuyasha mumbled, looking at the haggard soldiers that were clearly relieved.
"It's alright, they're a bunch of lazy bastards anyway." Shippo waved it off.
"General Shippo, is this the rumored brother of our lord?" A woman was approaching them.
"Ah yes, this is my father." Shippo beamed happily. Inuyasha was feeling a bit embarrassed about it, but he couldn't help feeling good. It made it happy that that's how Shippo saw him.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, your majesty." She bowed low, as did the soldiers she was leading.
"Ah, cut the formal crap. I'm not Sesshomaru, I'm not gonna behead ya or something." Inuyasha didn't like how everyone was treating him. It was great that no one was treating him like crap because he was a half demon, but the formal stuff was making him uncomfortable too. He also noticed a weird stench that was starting to bug him.
Everyone suddenly kneeled, "I'm sorry your majesty, but I could never think of myself as someone on your level. Please forgive us and allow us to continue to speak as we are."
Inuyasha looked at Shippo who was just watching but gave him a slight nod. "O…kay? Shit y'all are weird."
"Thank you, your majesty." She said, rising with the others.
"Shippo, I'll head out and let you get back to it okay?" Inuyasha sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Yes! Let's share a meal soon!" Shippo waved happily.
"Yeah kid, sounds good." Inuyasha gave him a gentle smile before walking off. He wandered for a while, listening to the things under his domain. It was so vast and all-encompassing that he'd never be able to manage it on his own. It was tiring. He needed to get the rest of his power.
"Muttface." Inuyasha turned to see Kouga, who was just staring at him with a group of people. The people looked shocked that he'd insulted the newly returned brother of the lord.
"Flea bitten bastard. What? You gonna cry again?" Inuyasha scowled.
"I didn't fucking cry."
"Sure. Whatever you say. Crybaby bitch." Kouga glared at him and the people in the hallway looked completely fearful.
"Augh. I can't fucking believe I actually missed you, asshole!" Inuyasha's eyes widened at the confession. Everyone made him uncomfortable, and he wasn't sure what to do about the statement.
"So….what's with the crowd…?" Inuyasha questioned, looking at the people causing them to stiffen.
"These are the people I've hired to be your staff." Kouga sighed. "They're trustworthy so you don't have to go cutting their heads off."
Inuyasha looked at them, "I'm not gonna be here that long. Why hire all these people?"
"Are you going to disappear again?" Kouga's eyes widened.
"Um…I guess I could tell you later. In private." He didn't really mind letting Kouga know what he was up to.
Kouga sighed again and nodded, "They do various things that Sesshomaru also has personal staff for. Including cleaning, management, and assistant work." Inuyasha didn't understand anything other than cleaning but nodded. He would ask Kouga to explain later, privately. "Everyone. This is Lord Inuyasha. He is the second son of Lord Touga the previous Inu no Taisho. Younger brother to our Lord Sesshomaru. He has been living in seclusion for 100s of years and will need assistance adjusting to the times." Since Inuyasha couldn't really add anything, he only listened. He still didn't understand why he would need an entire staff team.
"Ah, prime minister, the tailor is here." One of the people spoke.
Kouga nodded, "Come on man."
Inuyasha rolled his eyes and followed him, taking in the halls. "Hey wolf. It's weird…no one's freaking out about the fact that I'm a hanyou." The others in the group stiffened.
"Because it doesn't matter. These young fuckers don't know it but you're pretty much responsible for that." Kouga explained gruffly. "They've never experienced a world that discriminates against hanyou."
"That's…weird…" Inuyasha mumbled, looking at the group that seemed uncomfortable now. "The world changed so much…"
"It has been 1000 years." Kouga nodded.
"Yeah, but like. Their powerful overlord has a secret hanyou brother. Hell do they know about his daughters? Where are they by the way? Setsuna and Towa." Everyone seemed shocked by his words.
"They…passed away Inuyasha." Kouga frowned, not knowing how Inuyasha would react to this information.
"…I thought so…..it was weird when he said I was second in line….what….happened?" Inuyasha had become close to his nieces after meeting them.
"They died of old age. For some reason, they didn't have your lifespan, and passed when they were about 400 something." Kouga watched his old companion, but Inuyasha only nodded.
"It really is just us two again huh?" Inuyasha frowned.
"Yeah, youkai aren't really made the same anymore. Many of us powerful ones ended up dying so everyone else is pretty low level. Honestly, you could probably kill majority of them even without Tetsuaiga when you were younger." Kouga shrugged.
They entered a room where a man was waiting. "Inuyasha, he's going to measure you for clothes."
"Alright, what do I have to do?" Inuyasha eyed the man up and down. He was a hanyou. It was interesting. The stench seemed to get stronger.
"Ah, just stand on the step and spread your arms." Inuyasha did as he was told while the man measured him. He would cooperate because Sesshomaru was helping him. He found it interesting that in this remade world, hanyou weren't discriminated against. "Okay, all done. I have a catalogue for you to look through."
"Don't bother. Just send everything." Kouga waved. "Include underwear and pajama sets as well. Come on let's go." Inuyasha followed him, looking at the gratefully bowing hanyou oddly. Everything and everyone was so strange. Kouga brought them to a new room. "Alright, we gotta talk about some stuff."
Inuyasha looked at the extra people. He didn't mind telling Kouga why he came back after so long, but he wouldn't do so in front of those people. "What do you wanna do while you're here Inuyasha? Like a goal or something. Sesshomaru told me you came here for a bit of assistance but that's all he told me. I'm sure you don't just wanna laze around though."
"Um. I hadn't really thought I was going to stay for a long time. I don't know. Is there anything I should be doing? Or should want to do?" Inuyasha questioned.
"Well, not really. I'm pretty sure you'll be bored doing nothing all day. What about learning about all the shit you missed about the world?" Kouga suggested.
"Oh yeah, I think that's good. Let's do that."
"Cool. I'll get a tutor." Kouga then scowled at him, "You…can read and write, right?"
"Yeah." Inuyasha gave a short answer.
"Alright, that'll make this easier, but there are a lot of characters that we don't use anymore so the tutor will help with that too." Kouga continued. "Anything else you might wanna do to occupy your time?"
"No, I don't really wanna do anything." Inuyasha confessed. He knew he used to be a busy body, but after working so hard all his life and especially in the realm of the gods he felt like he was due a break. "What exactly is a prime minister?"
Kouga sighed, "Your brother's cruel idea of a joke." Inuyasha raised an eyebrow. "In this world, Sesshomaru makes all the decisions. He's the demon king now. Not just the lord of the west, but the king of all demons and everything else. My position is more figure head than anything, but he uses every opportunity to push anything he finds annoying off on me, the bastard." Inuyasha nodded, not allowing himself to frown. Of course, his brother wouldn't want to deal with him. He'd tried to get rid of him so quickly too. The hanyou brushed the feeling away, he was used to this sort of treatment from the elder. It wasn't anything new. "Usually though, I run the government. There's a government for the citizen's concerns, then there's the imperial government, which Sesshomaru sits at the top of."
Inuyasha nodded, "Okay, I think I understand. So, what about his heir? Why am I second in line?"
"Well, your majesty, it isn't as if Lord Sesshomaru will ever die so it's not really necessary." The man explained.
Inuyasha blinked and scowled, "Wait. Do y'all think he's immortal or something? He can be killed."
"T-t-that's treason!" They exclaimed.
"Take back your words your majesty! Surely you jest! Surely!"
Inuyasha was watching them all freak out, and looked at Kouga, who shrugged. "Inuyasha. Sesshomaru is practically immortal to all these youkai. He's always been there for most of them. He's currently the most powerful youkai known to exist." Kouga had to refrain from laughing at the face Inuyasha was making.
"That Sesshomaru? My half-brother Sesshomaru? The one who's had his ass handed to him, by ME, on multiple occasions?" Inuyasha looked at the worried staff, before he began laughing the hardest since he'd arrived. "You think i-if I c-cut his arm o-off again, they'll l-lose their s-shit!?" He could barely get the question out as he brought himself to tears in his laughter.
"Y-you cut lord Sesshomaru's flesh?" Their eyes were wide in shock.
"Not like it's hard to do." Inuyasha shrugged.
"Inuyasha, don't give prying ears any ideas. You know the only reason you were able to do that is because y'all are cut from the same cloth. We're ancient youkai, not modern. The modern youkai don't stand a chance against him, and he's cruel to the point they'd have to be stupid as fuck to try." Kouga sighed. He didn't want to have to clean up 3 generations of a family again because of their sibling feud.
"Wow, are they really so weak?" Inuyasha's eyes widened.
"You have no idea." Kouga sighed.
"How are we ancient? We're not even 10000."
"It means something different now. We're old blood." Kouga explained. Inuyasha nodded, it was all confusing and stupid. "Hey!" The staff straightened up. "Inuyasha is the only person in this life who can freely behave as he wants with Lord Sesshomaru. He is not, nor has never been his subordinate. There is no need for you to try and correct any of his behaviors in regards to his family. He is neither bound by Lord Sesshomaru's laws nor word. Am I clear?" The group nodded quickly.
Kouga continued to lead them through the halls, and they bumped into Sesshomaru. Everyone but Inuyasha bowed to him. "Wow Kouga, you gotta tell me when you became his bitch." Inuyasha teased.
"I'm going to beat your face in later." Kouga growled.
"Oh really? Just yesterday you were sobbing because you missed me, cry baby bitch." Inuyasha laughed. Kouga felt his eye twitch. He was ready for the hanyou to leave already. Inuyasha turned his eye to his brother, "Hey you really got these people fooled. Why do they think you're invincible or something?"
Sesshomaru's relaxed eyes found the newly hired staff, who shrank and cowered under the gaze of the lord. "Because to them I am. None, other than you, are foolish enough to test it either."
"The arrogance is just in your soul by this point huh?" Inuyasha huffed. He, of course, could easily put his brother in his place now that he had the power of the sun. "How old are you now even? Like 2000?"
"1868." Sesshomaru answered shortly.
"So that'd make me, 1314, right?. Wow, I'm old as dirt." Inuyasha never thought he'd live this long. "You're so old too." The staff couldn't believe how carelessly the hanyou was speaking to their lord. As if nothing mattered, not even his own life. "Did you want something? Is that why you were waitin' here?"
"I sensed you all coming so I waited. I wanted to make sure the prime minister was preforming his duties properly." He explained.
"Damn, is the leash tight?" Inuyasha turned asking Kouga, who by now was fuming.
"I didn't want this fucking position! Goddamnit!" He exploded. Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow, the only reason he didn't behead the wolf was because of Inuyasha's laughter. The wolf stormed away angrily, "Go preform your duties as instructed." He growled at the staff before leaving.
Sesshomaru was staring at Inuyasha as he continued to tease the wolf as he left. "I'll assume things have been going smoothly for you Inuyasha. Is there anything you are lacking?"
"Nah, I don't think so. Clothes, food, and a roof over my head's all I need." Inuyasha stretched. He was content.
"Will you come for a walk with me?" Sesshomaru asked. The hanyou only looked at him for a while before agreeing. They walked around the palace grounds, going to all the various gardens and areas. Inuyasha thought it was interesting. He never imagined that one day he would be spending time with his brother as he did his other family members. His brother seemed really different, and it was unnerving but not completely unexpected. He had expected some changes, but it was feeling a lot more drastic than if he'd simply become a worse tyrant.
"Sesshomaru….is that really the reason you looked for me when I went missing? Just because of the warning?" Inuyasha asked, looking up at the man beside him.
"…No…I suppose not." Sesshomaru admitted. However, he didn't elaborate, leaving Inuyasha confused and curious about the reason he might have.
