In about 2 hours, they were there. Rissa compelled the driver to get them there as fast as possible, so they wouldn't have to walk in the sun.

-Let's go!- she told the guy. She should really ask what his name was, because this was getting awkward. -What's your name?

-Guy.- that made it worse.

During the car ride, she had time to explain everything to him, vampirism, werewolf… whatever that's called, who knows, who doesn't, who knows some parts, but not everything, which parts they know, which parts they're allowed and not allowed to know, etc.

It didn't take a lot of time for them to get to Rissa's childhood home. It was actually built in the same place as her mom's childhood home. She told Guy to be quiet and knocked.

No answer.

She knocked again and again. She was starting to use vamp speed to knock. This was frustrating.

Finally, the door opened:

-Kitten, I can't say I'm not happy to see you, but why? Why now?- Damon asked, completely exasperated. -And who's that?- he pointed at Guy.

-Hi dad! I know it's late, but…

-Ya think?!

-I know! But I just… needed you to meet my boyfriend!

-Your what?

-Yeah, your what?!- Guy sounded scared, and Rissa didn't know if it was of the word "boyfriend" or of Damon. He was seriously glaring, so both seemed plausible.

-Whatever, come in.- they did. Good. Now, all they needed to do is have Guy feed on Elena and be out of there.

-So,- Marissa started. -Where's mom?

-Uhhh, doctors' conference.

-And where is that?

-There's a chance it's in Georgia, a chance it's in Washington and a chance it's in France.

-You weren't listening, were you?

-Nope.- this was bad. Very bad. Not the fact that Damon wasn't listening, the fact that Elena wasn't home. -Still glad you came, I'll just order junk food for two instead of one!

-Three.- Rissa corrected, pointing at Guy.

-He doesn't count.- Damon shrugged, completely unfazed. -So, I guess you two will stay in Rissa's room.

-Yup.- she said, grabbed Guy by the arm and led him upstairs. She ran into her room and closed the door behind them. She was about to tell him the problem, but he started speaking before she could:

-So let me get this straight, correct me if I say something wrong. We're here, so I can bite your mom.

-No!- awkward pause. -Yes.

-Okay, but she's not here, so we just came here like dummies…

-"Dummies"?! Seriously?

-Just listen, okay, so we're here, like dummies, your mom may just be in France right now, but, yeah, we don't know for sure, because your dad didn't listen. Speaking of your dad, did I do something to him?

-Nope, default state.

-Of course it is. So if I don't bite your who-knows-where mom in the next 21 hours, we both die?

-Correct.

-And, to make matters worse, you can't come out of the house during the day, because you don't have a special ring that helps you do that.

-Yup.

-But your dad, who used to be a vampire, did have one.

-Yes.

-Why can't you just get one in the same place he got his?

-Because that requires me telling people I'm a vampire!

-Well, my mom says I should always tell the truth.

-Well, your mom can…

-Kitten! If you don't stop yelling at him, I can throw him outside. It won't be hard. I'll enjoy it.

Rissa turned around to see Damon in the doorway, smirking, but tired:

-How much of this did you hear?

-The part about his mom, why, was there more?

-No, not really.

-Okay, goodnight.- he walked out of the room, but then peeked back in with one last glare toward Guy. -And I mean it when I say I'll enjoy it.

They both fell asleep, wondering what to do next.
