Fintralia: Bullet Dodged
Jett and Tino were in Jett's room, a couple of empty bottles of alcohol surrounding them. They could have gone to the bar, but they found that the atmosphere in one of their rooms was a lot better than some bar with other people around.
Their conversation had, somehow, wandered into the territory of close encounters.
"I didn't realise the snake I had wrapped around me was highly venomous," Jett said. "Fletcher was not happy with me."
"I can imagine," Tino said. "That was incredibly reckless."
Jett simply waved him off, before taking a long gulp of his beer.
"Your turn," the Australian said.
Tino took a shot of vodka, while thinking of a good story.
"Well, there's one where I might have had a close call," he said. "I'm not sure, and it's only by thinking back on it that I realised I might have avoided something."
"Go on," Jett prompted, turning to better watch Tino.
"Well… It happened in my first year at university. I was walking from campus, since I didn't have a car back then and it was about 2 km. I think it was about five minutes before a guy approached me. He said that he was helping this lady out with making something – I don't know what – but that he needed some extra hands. He said it was at this house and that the lady would provide cooldrink. What tipped me off that something was wrong was the fact that he told me I just needed to leave my bag and cell phone in the front room. I told him that I wasn't interested, and I tried to leave, but he was pretty insistent. Eventually, someone else came by, asking what's going on, and he tried the same thing on her. I took the opportunity to leave, but I soon forgot about it. Like I said, it's only by thinking back that I realised that I might have dodged a bullet."
Jett listened carefully, and his jaw dropped when Tino finished the story.
"Bloody hell," Jett whispered. "The worst thing a snake could do was kill me. If that guy really was lying about everything… what the hell could he have done to you?"
Tino shrugged, taking another shot.
"Your turn," he said.
Once again, based on a true story. When I was walking back home from university, I was accosted by this guy. I don't remember the exact details, but what I did remember happened above. I was studying accounting at that time and had a lot of homework, so as I was walking I forgot about the incident. It's only years later when thinking back that I realised I might have dodged a serious situation.
