"Do yourself a favor and take a swan dive off the roof and pray for a Quirk in your next life"
Izuku grit his teeth as he flashed back to Bakugo's last words to him as he leaned over the roof's railing. He had no real intention of jumping, of course. The roof just happened to be one of Izuku's favorite places to go. It was quiet, almost peaceful up here, and really gave Izuku time to just think.
Think about how bullshit Aldera High School actually was. If the verdette actually jumped, they'd no doubt actively sweep it under the rug so they can maintain their squeaky clean image.
Sometimes the injustice wanted to make him scream.
He didn't have time to think about that too much though, as he looked up to the sky to see a small comet hurtling straight for him.
"What is my fucking luck..." He muttered as he quickly ducked, the comet crashing just behind him.
As Izuku moved to investigate, he that that it wasn't a comet. It was a device of some kind. One that immediately latched onto his wrist as soon as he touched it, causing the boy to panic as he attempted to pry the device off of his wrist.
"Kid, don't panic! You've been given a gift. And honestly... you're our final gambit."
As Lucas turned towards the voice, he saw the ghostly image of a man. It was strange, though. His colors seemed to be constantly changing. One moment, he was wearing a green suit and tie, the next, a white T-Shirt, then, a red hoodie and finally a black compression shirt before repeating the loop of clothing.
"Who... What are you?" Izuku asked, approaching the ghost? Hologram? It wasn't exactly clear.
"My name is Dr. Tommy Oliver. As for what I am..." Tommy looked at his arms, as though he wasn't quite sure himself. "I guess you could call me a vestige, a remnant of the person I once was." He motioned to the constantly changing clothes. ""As for the watch... well, it's called the Master Morpher. Inside that watch is the knowledge of every Power Ranger to ever exist."
"The... what?" Izuku deadpanned.
"Right, your universe never had them because these Quirks exist. Basically, in my universe, Power Rangers were essentially superheroes, protecting the Multiverse from evil. We were blessed by what's known as the Morphin Grid, which granted us incredible power. For myself, I was the Green Mighty Morphin Ranger, the White Mighty Morphin Ranger, The Red Zeo Ranger, The Red Turbo Ranger, and the Black Dino Thunder Ranger."
"Jesus, how many costume changes did you have?" Izuku muttered under his breath, causing Tommy to laugh.
"You aren't far off. What you have to understand is that there are decades of Rangers, and they all put themselves into that Morpher, same as me. So, if you choose to accept this responsibility, you wouldn't take this gift alone. You'd be fighting with an army, essentially." he said
"Accept the responsibility?" Izuku echoed.
"I'm not going to lie to you, kid. This is not an easy ask. The whole reason we sent out this Master Morpher is because we failed. That watch is our last ditch effort to make sure the Ranger legacy lives on. You can always refuse." Tommy said, albeit somewhat vaguely, as though the past was still haunting him.
"...but why me?" Izuku asked. It was the 100 million yen question, after all. Why trust Deku? Why trust the useless kid who didn't have a power in a world of superpowers?
"Because you have a good heart, kid. The Morphin Grid has never picked a Ranger that wasn't deserving of the title. Ever. Even if said Ranger didn't believe they deserved to be one themself." Tommy said with a smile before another man walked in, wearing what looked to be some sort of military uniform that was shifting between blue and red.
"That's not necessarily true, Tommy. The A-Squad still existed." He reminded the man with a smile. "Shit, where are my manners? Hey kid, Sky Tate. SPD Deka Ranger. Formerly SPD Blue and SPD Red. Look, what Tommy is saying isn't wrong. The Morphin Grid clearly saw something in you, and that's why the Morpher chose you. And don't worry, we got your back. Besides, there's no feeling quite like Morphing." Sky said wistfully
Izuku thought for a moment. This entire situation was insane. Izuku half expected that he would wake up and this would all be some elaborate dream. But something told him that this was real. These vestiges wanted him to take on their legacy.
To become a Power Ranger.
"So what do I need to do?" He asked.
"The Morpher is going to scan you and lock itself to your DNA, that way nobody else can use the Morpher, only you." Tommy explained.
"Then, using that DNA, it's going to find the perfect Ranger for you to morph into first. This is by design. There were over a hundred of us running around the Multiverse in our prime, so easing you in one morph at a time is our best bet." Sky added.
"That and Gosei kinda handed Ranger Powers willy nilly when it came to his team, so this is us fixing that mess." Tommy chuckled.
"Yeah, and he never gave me that 'Simple explanation' for why I went from Black Ranger to Green Ranger!" another voice yelled from the Morpher, causing Izuku, Tommy and Sky to chuckle.
"Well Jake..." Sky said. "There's a simple explanation for that."
"Oh screw you!" Jake yelled back, but there was no venom behind the words. This must've been an inside joke, Izuku reasoned.
"Anyways!" Tommy called out, getting everyone's attention. "After doing some preliminary research on this planet, I'm guessing your goal is U.A, right? The top hero school in Japan?" Izuku nodded. "Okay, that entrance exam in is about 2 months. That's more than enough time to get you properly trained in one Ranger, with enough time to practice some civilian powers, too."
"Civilian Powers? Izuku asked.
"You can basically think of them as Quirks in your world. Some of us had powers outside of morphing, going as far back as the original Space rangers. In my case, I could project a force field." Sky explained. "Of course, you aren't going to get them all at once because that would be dangerous and foolish, but we can let you choose one right now, just in case you ever find yourself unable to Morph."
The Morpher than began to display holograms of former Rangers, displaying their civilian powers. There were so many to choose from... From telekinesis to telepathy. From invisibility to psychometry. Then there was one hologram that caught Izuku's eye. It was a black teenager fighting what could only be described as humanoid dinosaur cyborgs that had a scythe for a hand. He watched as the boy moved his hands to his face, prepared for what was likely his imminent doom before his arms started to change, now sporting what looked to be glowing blue scales. On screen showed the words "Skin Hardening". As Izuku watched, his hands unconsciously touched the many scars Bakugo had inflicted on him.
He chose Skin Hardening, and felt the scales along his arms. However, they weren't blue, but green.
"Skin Hardening it is. Don't worry, kid. You'll get to the others in time. You'll need them for what's coming. But we can talk about that can of worms later. For now, we need to prepare you. The Morpher has picked the perfect Ranger for you. Now, you just need to say the Morphin Call, and this Master Morpher will transform into the actual Morpher the Ranger used." Tommy explained.
As he said that, Izuku's mind flooded with the knowledge of every Morphin call from the last 30 years. From something as simple as "It's Morphin' Time!" To yelling out "Cosmic Orb! Link to Morphin Grid!". However, one call stood out among the others. It had this... energy around it. Like Izuku knew that when he yelled this particular Morphin Call, he would actually morph. He thought about it, kept the image in his mind and took a deep breath.
"It's always amazing seeing someone morph for the first time." Sky said with a grin as energy swirled around Izuku.
Annnnnnnd that's it! Yup, I'm cockblocking y'all for this first chapter mwahahahahaha! I already have Izuku's first Morph planned, so I know exactly what Ranger he's going to morph into, but I kind of want to leave that to speculation on your guys' end for now. I will say that Izuku will not have any 6th Ranger powers any time soon. That's going to be an arc all on its own. This also extends to rangers who started with 3 rangers. Anything past that will be unavailable to Izuku for the time being. Meaning no Thunder Rangers, no Wolf, Rhino or Spirit Rangers, no Gold or Silver Rangers, and no Brachio or White Dino Ranger. Sorry, y'all.
But yeah! This is an idea I wanted to do for a while, so I thought I'd pop this first chapter out to gauge interest. I'm a huge Power Rangers nerd so this is going to be so much fun, and yes, I can confirm that all the past rangers will make cameos as Vestiges at some point or another... even if I don't particularly like them (looking at you, Operation Overdrive). On top of that, there will be returning villains as well, including a new villain that I made myself. Yeah, expect them to wipe the floor with All For One.
Another key detail I should mention, when I say all Rangers, I mean it. I'm not limiting myself to the shows, here. Comics, games, even fan made series like Power Rangers Unworthy are on the table here. Which means yes... I am absolutely including Lord Drakkon and the Omega Ranger stuff. That would be too much of a good idea to pass up
But that's about all the time I have for now. As always, drive the speed limit, drink some water, and love one another. Pizza!
