Chapter 30
The curse of the gods
19 years before the war with Mordred...
Eira tended the fire in her hut when a brilliant light illuminated the space. Zeus, King of the Gods, sat in a chair.
"Why have you come, Zeus?" Eira asked, wary.
"The firstborn of gods must kill their siblings to survive," Zeus explained. "Moira's firstborn, Helios, the sun god bears this cursed fate. But her second son, Christopher Dallas must be protected."
Eira stepped closer. "You want me to hide Helios here?"
Zeus nodded. "Your isolation and magical prowess make this the perfect sanctuary."
With a deep breath, Eira nodded reluctantly. "I will protect Helios."
Zeus vanished, leaving Eira to ponder her newfound responsibility.
"The fate of gods, and the fate of war...what have I undertaken?"
Present Day
The Rangers gathered around Helios, concern etched on their faces.
"I must leave," Helios declared, his voice firm. "My presence here puts you all in greater danger than any alliance with me."
Jason stepped forward. "Helios, we need you. Together, we can—"
Helios shook his head. "You don't understand. The curse...it grows stronger by the day. I won't risk harming any of you."
Emily's eyes widened. "The curse? What do you mean?"
Helios's gaze turned distant. "My brother...," He hesitated, "Gods rarely bare more than one child for the firstborn was required to kill the second in order to survive."
Chris spoke up. "We're a team. We will find a way around this."
Helios's expression turned resolute. "I've made up my mind. I must leave, for your sake."
Without another word, Helios turned and walked away, leaving the Rangers stunned and helpless.
Robert's voice broke the silence. "We can't let him go. We need him."
Mei nodded. "But at what cost? If the curse is real..."
Sarah's eyes locked onto Helios's receding figure. "We have to find a way to break the curse."
The Rangers shared determined glances, knowing their mission had just become even more urgent.
The Rangers watched Helios disappear into the distance, worried.
Jason turned to the others. "We need to stop him. He's crucial to our fight against Mordred and Hel."
Emily's brow furrowed. "But what if he's right? What if his presence puts us in danger?"
Chris's eyes narrowed. "I don't care about the curse or the prophecy. I care about our mission."
Mei's voice dropped to a whisper. "Chris, what if Helios is the one meant to destroy you?"
Chris's gaze snapped to Mei. "What are you talking about?"
Sarah's eyes locked onto Chris. "The prophecy...it says one shall fall by a sibling's hand. And we all know Helios is your sibling. He might not want to but if the Fates are involved, I don't see him having much choice in the matter."
Robert's face set in determination. "We won't let that happen. We'll protect you, Chris."
Chris's jaw clenched. "I don't need protection. My brother needs me."
The Rangers' resolve hardened, unaware of the impending destiny that would soon unfold.
Helios sat in the coffee shop, unshed tears in his eyes and in deep thoughts. He held a coffee cup in his hands. It was filled to the brim, meaning he had not drank from it.
"Hello, Sol." An unfamiliar voice spoke from behind him.
Helios's eyes narrowed as he turned, his grip on the coffee cup tightening. "How do you know my name?" he asked, his voice low.
The teenage girl smiled, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "I know many things, Sol." She emphasized his name, her voice dripping with power.
Helios's instincts screamed warning. This was no ordinary girl. The aura surrounding her was unmistakable – divine energy.
"Who are you?" Helios demanded, his hand instinctively reaching for his sword.
The girl chuckled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "You don't recognize me, Sol? I'm hurt."
As she spoke, her form shifted, her teenage disguise melting away. Helios's eyes widened as the Goddess of Death stood before him.
"Hel," he whispered, his sword hand trembling.
Hel's smile grew wider. "The one and only. And you, Sol, are in quite the predicament."
Helios's mind reeled. What did Hel want? Why reveal herself now?
"What do you want from me?" Helios asked, his voice firm. Hel leaned forward, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "I want to help you break the curse, Sol. But first, you must understand its true nature."
Helios hesitated, unsure if he should trust the Goddess of Death.
Hel's eyes locked onto Helios', her gaze piercing. "I understand the weight you carry, Sol. As the firstborn of Odin, I know the burden of destiny."
Her words struck a chord within Helios. No one else grasped the crushing responsibility he bore.
"I can help you lighten that burden," Hel continued, her voice gentle. "Let me carry the weight of death within you. You won't be so conflicted when you face your brother."
Helios's thoughts swirled. Could he trust Hel, the Goddess of Death? Her offer seemed tempting, but at what cost?
"How?" Helios asked, his voice cautious.
Hel's smile hinted at secrets. "I'll share my own essence with you. My power will balance the curse's influence, freeing you from its grip."
Helios hesitated. This could be a trick, but what if it was his only hope? "What's in it for you?" Helios asked, searching for motives.
Hel's expression turned enigmatic. "Let's just say I have interests in the outcome of what the Fates demand from you."
Helios sensed hidden agendas, but his desire to break the curse overwhelmed his doubts.
"Okay," Helios said finally. "I accept your offer."
Hel's eyes flashed with triumph. She extended a hand, and Helios felt an icy energy course through him.
As their hands touched, darkness seeped into Helios's soul. He felt the weight of death spreading within him, balanced by Hel's power.
Helios's vision blurred. When he refocused, Hel stood before him, her teenage disguise restored. He felt the darkness spreading within him, the weight of death now shared with Hel.
"You'll be free from the curse's grip," Hel whispered, her eyes gleaming with sinister intent. "Free to fulfill your destiny."
Helios's gaze narrowed. "What do you mean?"
Hel's smile grew wider. "With my power coursing through you, you'll be able to kill the White Ranger without hesitation."
Helios's heart sank. The curse's true purpose hit him like a tidal wave.
"You want me to kill Chris," he realized, horror creeping in.
Hel nodded. "The White Ranger's demise will break the curse, freeing you from its hold."
Helios felt betrayed. He had sought salvation, not damnation. "Why?" he demanded, anger rising.
Hel's expression turned cold. "Chris's existence threatens the balance of power. His death will ensure my realm's dominance. Besides, I thought the sun god would be wise enough not to trust the goddess of death."
Helios realized he had made a terrible mistake. He was now a pawn in Hel's game of destruction.
Helios felt the darkness spreading within him, the weight of death now shared with Hel.
Hel vanished with a smirk of satisfaction, leaving Helios torn. His deeply rooted instinct to protect his brother now warred with the urge to kill Chris.
Suddenly, Kaito, the warrior tracking Helios, burst into the coffee shop. "You're a monster!" Kaito shouted, sword drawn.
Helios reacted instinctively, his movements fluid and deadly. With a swift strike, he ended Kaito's life without breaking a sweat.
As Kaito's lifeless body slumped to the ground, Helios gazed at his hands in horror. His eyes gleamed gold, his sword ablaze with solar fury, yet shrouded in darkness. Hel's power coursed through him.
Meanwhile, at the Big House, the Rangers celebrated Thanksgiving, oblivious to Helios's transformation.
Moira's voice was barely audible as she pulled Chiron aside. "If Helios turns against us, I fear our chances are slim. He's a full god, Chiron."
Chiron's expression turned grave. "We must prepare for the worst."
In the Underworld, Hel revealed her plan to Emperor Mordred, her voice dripping with malice.
Emperor Mordred's eyes blazed with excitement. "Another Ranger will fall. Christopher Dallas, the White Ranger, will be the key to shattering their morale."
Hel's smile grew wider. "With Helios under my control, nothing can stop us."
As Emperor Mordred's laughter echoed through the Underworld, Helios stood alone, struggling against the darkness consuming him.
Helios's golden eyes burned with an inner fire as he surrendered to the darkness. His sword, now a blazing embodiment of his conflicted soul, led him to the Big House.
Within the Big House, the alarm shattered the festive atmosphere.
"It's a Code Red!" Jason shouted. The Rangers sprang into action.
"By the might of Olympus, we shall rise!" they chorused raising their Morphers up. Light covered each of them and they emerged in their various colors.
Jason transformed into the Red Olympian Warrior.
Emily became the Blue Olympian Warrior.
Chris morphed into the White Olympian Warrior.
Sofia transformed into the Pink Olympian Warrior.
Robert became the Gold Olympian Warrior.
Mei transformed into the Green Olympian Warrior.
Sarah became the Yellow Olympian Warrior.
Moira and Chiron watched the Rangers depart, their faces etched with worry.
"May the gods protect them," Moira whispered.
Chiron's eyes narrowed. "Helios's transformation will not be easy to overcome."
As the Rangers rushed into battle, Helios emerged from the shadows, his golden eyes fixed on Chris.
