Chapter 32
Luctus Pro Caduti
The Rangers, bearing Chris's lifeless body, teleported back to their camp. Their faces reflected the weight of their grief.
As they emerged, Moira's eyes locked onto Chris's still form. Her scream shattered the air, threatening to rip reality apart.
"NOOOO! Not another son!"
Her anguish echoed through the camp, a primal wail that shook the very foundations.
The Rangers, somber and respectful, laid Chris to rest. They left Moira to her private sorrow, mourning the loss of her two sons, as foretold by fate.
Later, the Rangers gathered, their faces etched with pain. They began planning Chris's memorial, seeking solace in honoring their fallen brother.
As they sat together, tears flowed freely. Memories of Chris flooded their minds: his laughter, his courage, his unwavering loyalty.
Matt's memory joined Chris's, the former Black Ranger who fell in Asperia. The pain of losing two brothers weighed heavily upon them.
Jason's voice cracked. "Chris always knew the risks... but we never thought it'd happen."
Emily's eyes welled. "He protected us, always."
Robert's face contorted. "My brother, my friend... gone."
Mei's whisper was barely audible. "We'll keep fighting, for Chris, for Matt."
Sofia's tears fell like rain. "We'll make sure his sacrifice isn't forgotten."
Sarah's voice trembled. "We'll carry him with us, always."
Their shared grief bound them tighter, forging a resolve to continue their quest.
The memorial ceremony for Chris took place under a somber sky. The Rangers, Moira, and Chiron gathered around a pyre, upon which Chris's body lay.
Chiron's voice, heavy with sorrow, began the eulogy. "Today, we honor a hero, a brother, and a friend. Chris's courage and heart will never be forgotten."
Jason stepped forward, his eyes red-rimmed. "Chris was more than just a teammate. He was our rock, our guiding light. His sacrifice will fuel our determination."
Emily's voice trembled. "I remember his smile, his laughter. He made us stronger, made us family."
Robert's face was etched with pain. "My brother, my friend. I'll carry you with me always."
Mei's words were laced with resolve. "We'll continue our fight, for Chris, for Matt, and for our world."
Sofia's tears fell unchecked. "Chris's legacy will live on through us. We'll make him proud."
Sarah's whisper was barely audible. "I'll miss him... so much."
Moira's eyes blazed with determination. "My sons may be gone, but their spirit remains. We will not falter."
As the pyre ignited, the Rangers watched, their hearts heavy.
Later, in the Big House, the atmosphere was subdued. Each Ranger sat lost in thought, the weight of their losses settling in.
Jason stared at the empty chairs, once occupied by Matt and Chris. Emily's eyes wandered to the photos on the wall, now haunting reminders. Robert's gaze drifted out the window, his mind elsewhere. Mei's hands clenched into fists, her jaw set. Sofia's eyes were downcast, her tears dried. Sarah's face was pale, her eyes sunken.
The silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the occasional sniffle.
Their mission, once a noble quest, had become a deadly serious crusade. Two Rangers fallen, out of eight. The stakes had never been higher.
The Rangers sat in contemplative silence, reflecting on their journey. Chiron's wise voice broke the stillness.
"My young friends, I've trained heroes for nearly three millennia. I've seen countless brave souls rise and fall. Being a Power Ranger is not just a noble calling; it's staring death in the face."
Chiron's gaze swept across the room, meeting each Ranger's eyes.
"If you were to drop your Morphers now and walk out that door, I wouldn't blame you. You've lost two brothers, and the weight of your grief is crushing."
Jason's eyes locked onto Chiron's, a spark igniting within.
"But I know you," Chiron continued. "I know your hearts, your courage, and your conviction. You've come too far to turn back now."
Emily's jaw set, determination etched on her face.
Chiron's voice took on a resolute tone. "You have a choice: let grief consume you or use it to fuel your resolve. Will you let Chris and Matt's sacrifices be in vain, or will you rise stronger?"
The Rangers exchanged glances, a unspoken understanding passing between them.
Robert's voice, steady and firm, spoke for them all. "We'll train harder, overcome our grief, and become stronger. For Chris, for Matt, and for our world."
Mei's nod was emphatic. "We won't let their memories fade."
Sofia's eyes blazed with determination. "We'll honor their legacy."
Sarah's whisper was laced with steel. "We'll make them proud."
Jason stood, his eyes burning with resolve. "We'll finish this, together, as a team."
The Rangers rose, united in their vow. Chiron's proud smile acknowledged their courage.
"Then let us begin anew," Chiron said. "Train, mourn, and heal. But never forget: you are Power Rangers and there's no calling more noble than that."
With renewed purpose, the Rangers steeled themselves for the trials ahead.
A/N
Luctus Pro Caduti means Mourning the Fallen. Well, needless to say, I cried writing this particular chapter. But pretty please, review. It would go a long way. We are about reaching the middle point of the story. Xoxo
