A/N: Booth mentioned his tradition of getting Brennan's new book in the first chapter
Today was the day Brennan's fourth book, The silent Bones, was released. This release was special, it was the first book release that Booth and Brennan were more than partners. Booth planned to make Brennan dinner and get her flowers tomorrow night when she was home from her release day events. even though she'd never admit it this release day was going to be hard for Brennan she was leaving five-month-old Christine behind to do a live segment for Wake-Up D.C. then she was going to take a short flight to New York for a book signing and tape a few segments for different news shows.
Booth slipped on his suit coat and went to Christine's room and over to her crib, "Good morning, Angel." Booth picked her up. "Mommy's doing her book thing this morning so you're gonna have to settle for bottles today, but mommy will be back tonight." Booth changed Christine's diaper and got her dressed in a sleeper and took her downstairs and sat her bouncy seat got her bottle ready, After she was fed Booth put Christine in her bouncy chair and made his own breakfast. Booth turned on Wake Up D.C. in time to see Brennan walk on stage. Once Brennan started talking Christine started kicking her legs and making noises, Booth grabbed his phone and started recording her. "Are you excited to hear mommy, Angel?" Booth stopped recording Christine just before Brennan's segment ended incase Christine started crying, he didn't want to ruin a cute video and upset Brennan more than she was about leaving her for the day. He played the video back and sent it in a text to Brennan, 'somebody is happy about hearing her mommy on T.V.' when Brennan's segment ended Christine started fussing a little Booth went and got her out of her bouncy seat. "I know you miss mommy I miss her too; it wasn't easy for me to watch her leave with her agent this morning. I take her to all her book events, but she wanted me to stay with you today since it's the first time she's left you for something other work. She didn't want me to stay with you at her book events because you're a little too young to be around all those people. Next year we'll all go to all of her book events." Booth rubbed Christine's back until she settled down against his shoulder.
"That's my girl. Let's get your jacket on and go get mommy's book before I take you to daycare." Booth packed Christine's diaper bag and slipped her light pink jacket on her and put her in her car seat.
B&B
Twenty minutes later Booth knocked on the door of Maggie's Books, " Hey Seeley, I wasn't sure you'd still do this…"
Booth smiled, "Bones offered to get me an advanced copy months ago, but I have to keep up tradition."
Maggie chuckled and handed Booth the book, "Enjoy…"
"I will. "
Booth headed to the lab to drop Christine off with Angela who would drop her and Michael Vincent off at daycare when it opened. "Thanks for doing this, Ange."
"Of course. Go keep up your tradition." Booth grinned and left Angela's office. Booth got a large black coffee from his and Brennan's favorite coffee cart at the Mall and sat on a nearby bench and began reading.
That night when it got close to her bedtime Christine started to fuss. "I know you miss mommy, angel. I miss her too. she'll be home by the time you have your first night time snack. " Booth gave Christine her bath hoping it would settle her down enough to go to sleep until Brennan got home. Christine took her bottle, but didn't fall asleep. Booth put her in her crib anyway, hoping that at after a few minutes she'd fall asleep. After ten minutes Christine started crying, Booth went into her room and picked her up, he started rubbing her back and walked to her glider. Rocking wasn't working , it was making Christine cry more. "Christine, I know w you miss mommy, but you need to go to sleep. Mommy will be home soon …" Seeing that nothing was going to settle Christine Booth sighed and looked at his watch then he pulled out his phone and saw that Brennan's flight was on time that meant he had a little over an hour to get to the airport and pick her up. Booth sent a quick text to Brennan's agent asking her not to bring Brennan home that he was meeting her at the airport. He got a thumbs up emoji in reply. Booth thew a change of clothes in Christine's diaper bag and carried her downstairs and put her in her car seat before heading out to the SUV. Thanks to his lights and ability to speed Booth made it to the airport in a half hour. Booth made it to the gate with minutes to spare. Brennan gasped when she saw them waiting for her. "Booth…"
"Someone really missed her mommy tonight and didn't want to sleep…." Booth grinned and handed Christine to Brennan and slipped her bag off her shoulder. Brennan smiled slightly and kissed Christine's cheek. "Hi sweetheart." Booth gently guided Brennan and Christine toward the exit. Brennan placed Christine in her car seat and climbed in beside her. Booth smiled and closed the door. Booth smiled an hour later when he pulled up to the mighty hut and saw that Brennan and Christine were asleep. He went around to the door and opened it kissing Brennan. "Bones…"
"Mmmm." Brennan blinked; Booth grinned.
"We're home. Get your bag and Christine's. I'll take her inside…"
Brennan looked over at the baby and smiled "She's sleeping…."
"Finally. Hopefully we can keep her that way."
As soon as Booth sat Christine's car seat down her eyes popped open and she started crying. Brennan quickly picked her up. "Shh sweetheart, I'll feed you in a minute. I need to take a quick shower, I've been exposed to too many people in varying states of cleanliness, stay here wit Daddy." Booth chuckled and took her from Brennan. Fifteen minutes later Brennan walked out of the bathroom and smiled, Booth was sitting on their bed holding a whimpering Christine, she walked around to the other side of the bed pulled the covers down and climbed in. Booth kissed Christine's forehead before handing her over to Brennan. Booth smiled as Christine quieted and settled in Brennan's arms.
"She's finally happy and settled."
"Yes, it seems like it wasn't the best idea to not bring Christine with me…"
Booth shook his head slightly and kissed Brennan's cheek, "No Bones, she was fine today. You saw how happy she was to see you on T.V. ''
"Yes, but…"
"No Bones. She was fine. Christine was a little fussy when your segment ended. but settled down when I picked her up. We left a little early, got your book from Maggie's Books then I dropped her off at the lab with Ange so I could read your book… Ange gave Christine her lunch bottle and hung out with her and Michael Vincent while everyone else was at a crime scene. She was fine until bedtime; I think she just missed her after bath snuggles with you…"
"I missed her… and you too today…more than I thought I would. I told Carrie that you were going to take me to Saturday's signing. Dad said he'd come here and stay with Christine."
"I missed you today too, Bones. It was odd to see you on T.V. and not be watching from the greenroom."
"How far did you get in the book?"
"I'm in the middle of chapter five. I love the book so far, it's your best one yet…"
"Thanks, Booth." Brennan kissed Booth and got up to put a fed and sleeping soundly Christine in her crib.
