Society

Society in SoCon varies quite a lot. Even though it is a multi planetary civilization, humanity has not yet grown out of it's cultural roots completely. While religious festivals like X-mas, Eid, Easter, Holi, etc are still celebrated, they are mostly done in a cultural sense rather than a religious sense. Infact belief in religion as a whole has seen a massive downturn, with more than 75% of the population identifying as non religious.

Due to massive levels of Automation, and improvements in technology, providing jobs to everyone has become an impossibility. Hence the government provides a basic income to every citizen from the day they reach majority. This was formulated as a law in the late 2090s and brought into effect in the early 2100s. This has led to more free time, which most have invested in developing hobbies, talents and culture. Thus Causing a cultural renaissance of sorts in SoCon space.

Despite this, commerce is not yet obsolete. Trading of complex & luxury goods, Interstellar shipping, construction, research foundations, and heavy industry like mining, refineries etc do exist and have been flourishing.

Biotics

Biotics are a fairly new part of Human culture, being discovered in the 2160s and subsequently researched and developed. While deemed important for just their military implications at first, they have caused a cultural shift after their revelation to the public. First obviously compared to Jedi from old Earth fiction, they have become a large part of the culture of many communities.

After many tests on brain tissue smaples it was discovered that, when Planium is injected into a subject, it sometimes binds itself to the neurons of the organism, who then can utilise the bioelectricity of the neurons to manipulate Planium Higgs-Boson fields. While it's not very powerful by itself, it can be amplified using Biotic amps, which were invented soon after this discovery.

In the year 2186 after years of tests and trials, for the first time a human was artificially given Biotic abilities. After months of monitoring for adverse effects, it was declared a success. This process while amazing, was also quite expensive due to strict safety measures. Over the years it has been improved, streamlined and perfected. Now 3 out of 5 people have biotic powers of some level. Only 1 out of 7 people have above Delta level Biotic powers with amps.

Biotics being so comman has caused some major changes in society. For starters many, inspired by Earth fiction treat biotics like a spiritual power, even though it has been scientifically disproven. This has led to entirely new monasteries of Biotic monks pop up in Planium rich Planets. While in the early days, some radical biotics, tried to go on murder sprees based on some misplaced sense of superiority, and were put down, harshly. This type of rogue behaviour is no longer visible or has been reported in the last 80 years.

Biotics are classified as follows:

Alpha (has biotic ability but not stron enough for use. Most fresh, unamped biotics are at this level.)

Beta (minor telekinetic powers, can move very small objects. Unamped biotics are at this level)

Gamma (telekinesis Powers. Can lift medium to slightly large objects like chairs. First level of combat Viability.)

Delta (Level of an average non combatant Asari. Can use Basic Biotic Abilities, like charge, warp, etc. 2nd Level of Combat Viability.)

Delta+ (Powerful Biotics allow the individual to use all types of Biotic abilities. 3rd level of Combat Viability. Lethal even when unarmed. Most Asari commandos are around this level.)

Gamma+ (Immense biotic powers. Guaranteed to be among the strongest biotics in existence. Only the strongest Asari commandos are at this level.)

Beta+ (The strongest Biotics ever recorded, can demolish a mid rise building by themselves.)

Alpha+ (The theoretical peak of Biotic power. No one of this class exists. Theorized to be capable of crushing a tank with eaze.)
