One Week after the Battle, Haven's Healing Pool
The group of friends look on as both Hicca and Toothless lay in healing pools. Hicca's leg became infected and could not be saved. In order to save her life, the healer removed her leg, cleaned it up, and bandaged. Toothless's left wing was shredded and shattered beyond saving much light Hicca's leg. His wing was also removed. What is left is a stub where his wing would be and now it is bandaged up. His other wing was broken but intact. That wing is also bandaged up and cleaned up.
The group of friends are sticking by the pair waiting for them to wake up. It has been a week after the battle and several attempts have been made to rescue all captured owls. However, those who leave have never come back alive. Stormfly is sitting next to Hicca who remains asleep in the healing pools. Hookfang stands near the door guarding it and only allowing the group or a healer to enter. Ruff, Tuff, Barf and Belch are busy with changing the room around. Even helping Hookfang with guarding the door so they can rest. Meatlug and Fishlegs gather food for everyone and even prepare it. Which is what they have done as they come back from an outing.
Fishlegs comes over to Stormfly asking, "Any changes?" Stormfly shakes her head not looking up at Fishlegs. He nods his head and is about to walk away when Hicca begins to stir slightly. Stormfly then yells, "Hicca is waking up!" The others scramble around Hicca and Toothless. Each member watches with bated breath. Hicca grones a bit then opens her eyes, and she looks around. She is confused as to why everyone is crowding around her so much.
Everyone is happy to see her awake then Stormfly asks, "How are you feeling Hicca?" Hicca sits up with some difficulty. Then looks down to see that her left leg is gone. Hicca asks when she does not see Toothless, "Where is Toothless?" The group remains silent causing Hicca to worry then Stormfly moves to the side and Hicca looks over.
Hicca looks at Toothless and sees the state he is in and begins to cry. She struggles to get up, so Stormfly helps her stand and give Hicca support. Hicca hobbles over to Toothless with Stormfly's help however, Toothless does not move, and she asks, "What happened to him?" Hookfang answers calmly, "When we found him, his wing was so badly damaged that it was practically hanging off him." Hicca cries more than asks, "Does this mean he will never fly again?"
The group nod quietly and Hicca nuzzles Toothless's head gently asking, "What now?" Fishlegs answers, "For now you and Toothless have to stay here in the healing hollow. At least until you both recover enough to leave." Hicca nods and looks at Toothless for a moment longer than she says, "At least he is alive. But the fact that he can't fly is what kills me."
The group nod and Stormfly says, "We are here for you. For both of you." Ruffnut then says out loud, "You could always make him a new wing." Everyone looks at her like she is crazy, Ruff asks, "What? What did I say?" Hicca thinks for a moment then she says, "That is not a bad idea. I have to get to the blacksmith and get to work." Hicca moves to get up and hop over. Meatlug then says, "Hicca you should wait a while before you try to do anything. You just got up." Ruff and Tuff go over to Hicca to try to get her to sit down. But Hicca shakes her head then says, "I know what I can and can't do. I have walked on one leg before."
That makes the group stop and look at each other then Hicca goes to the door of the hollow then she says, "If Toothless is showing any sign of waking up get me immediately." She turns her head slightly to look at her friends and Barf says, "We will stay with him." Then Belch says after, "We will get you when he gets up." Hicca smiles and looks forward and takes off towards the blacksmith. Tuffnut then says, "Do you guys think Tooth will wake up soon?" The group doesn't move, and his twin says, "Yeah. He will. He has too." They look at Toothless and they watch Meatlug and Fishlegs move Toothless around to help keep his joints from going stiff.
Blacksmith's Hollow, few days later
Hicca has been working nonstop to complete her build for Toothless. She has been able to standard work on one leg. While she was working on a rig for her lover, she also built a new leg for herself to help her get around. Her new leg has metal talons and the talons are connected by some wood and leather. Her leg moves like she never lost it but she now has a limp and she can't close the talons. But she can walk around and when she flys the talons close and when she lands the talons open up. She then grabs a few hot coals and throws them into a lit fire.
After a few moments she pulls a metal rod off the fire, and she goes over to a workbench and slowly bends the metal into place. The rod is connected to a wing that is lightweight and on the wing are feathers that have fallen off. Hicca spent an entire night attaching the feathers to the wing and making sure it was all even. Hicca has painted the feathers black and the tips of the feathers are red. She puts the wing on a stand then she moves the straps up and down.
As she does this the wing opens and closes without issue. She smiles and jumps up and down in joy, happy that she created a working wing. Hicca looks over the wing to make sure everything is in place and secured. A loud crash happens behind her and that makes her jump then spin around fast. She quickly turns around to find Barf and Belch piled on top of each other. Hicca runs over to them, helping them both up, then asks, "What has you two in a panic?"
After she helps the twins up, Barf says, "Toothless is waking up." Hicca's eyes go wide then Barf says, "Snotlout saw him move and started to wake up." Barf then says, "If you hurry you will be there when he wakes up." Hicca without a second thought begins to run out the blacksmith.
The Healing Pool's
Hicca rushes past them and takes off with the twins following behind her. Hicca wobbles around as she takes flight but is able to steady herself. By the time Hicca gets back she finds Snotlout standing next to Toothless. When he sees Hicca coming in Snotlout steps back and says, "He is waking up Hicca. You are right on time." Snotlout steps back more while Hicca stands next to Toothless. She nuzzles Toothless's head and whispers, "Toothless. My love, please wake up." She pulls back and watches as Toothless finally wakes up and looks into her eyes.
