The Gang's Nest Tree

It has been a few weeks and now Toothless is allowed to leave the healing pools and return to his own nest. Right now, Toothless is the only one in the nest as the others are busy with chores and training. Hicca is now the blacksmith, Stormfly and Hookfang are patrolling around and are now guards. The two sets of twins causing mayhem wherever they go, and finally Meatlug and Fishlegs are now the new healers. Toothless no longer has to wear a bandage around his amputated wing.

Now all that is left is a stump that has feathers missing. He walks around for a moment when he hears the sound of wings flapping behind him. He looks behind to see Hicca carrying something wrapped in a cloth and a smile on her face. He can't help but smile at her and approach her. Hicca lands placing the cloth on the ground gently as they bump heads in greeting. Toothless and Hicca were able to get through the tough time but Toothless still struggles with the fact he can't fly.

They part after a moment, Toothless asks, "What did you bring?" Hicca smiles then goes over to the cloth saying, "This is what will give you your flight back." She pulls the cover away and it is a prosthetic wing with feathers painted black with the tips painted red. After more testing and adjustments Hicca was able to get the wing in working order.

Toothless is stunned and he pokes at it then he extends the wing, and it looks like the stump where his wing once was. He looks to Hicca asking in disbelief, "Are you serious?" Hicca nods her head and says, "This is a prototype. I did a lot of testing and changes so I don't know if it will work right now. But this is the first step to get you back in the air." Toothless nuzzles her and Hicca hugs him to her and after a moment they part again.

Hicca grabs the wing and places it up against Toothless stump. Then she makes sure it is secured then she moves to the buckles, so they are on tight. After she attaches a hook onto his other wing to secure it she steps back and Hicca then says, "Alright now slowly open your wings."

Toothless does and the other wing opens at the same time as his real wing. He grows happy and more excited while Hicca is bouncing with glee. She then asks, "How does that feel?" Toothless answers in awe, "This amazing. It is a little heavy, but this is still good. Really good." Hicca smiles then she says, "I can try to make it lighter later but for now try to flap. Get airborne."

Toothless does and it takes a few tries and fails. After a few more failed tries he takes a deep breath and jumps into the air again. He gets in the air for a few moments then lands stumbling a little bit but does stay on his feet. He smiles at her as Hicca goes around and checks that all the straps are in place, and she is pleased to find them all still in place.

Then she says, "Ready for a true test flight?" He nods and follows her out stopping at the entrance of the nest. Hicca takes off and makes a loop yelling, "Come on Tooth! Trust me!"

Toothless watches Hicca fly around encouraging him to take a leap of faith. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, then he opens his wings. Toothless leans forward letting himself take a leap of faith. He dive's down with Hicca following him closely behind him.

Moments later he opens his eyes and snaps his wings open. Toothless feels the wind catch him and he is flying again. He is amazed and lets out a loud screech of joy. Hicca flies next to him and lets out her own screech. Together the pair fly, getting the attention of other owls. As they fly together the pair hear cheers and many are jumping.

While they fly their friends join them one by one, flying behind them and next to them. Toothless flies up with Hicca following him. They reach the highest point to corkscrew up then they fall back and dive down. They pull away from hitting the ground and continue to fly, hearing the entirety of Haven cheering at the impossible. A downed owl with a wing ripped off is flying again.

The Royal Hollow

Off to the side is Cloudjumper and the King watching the whole thing and Cloudjumper says, "Still no sign of the Red Death's nest. Or of Valka. I am afraid she is dead." The King says, "We will continue the search but now we know for sure that she is the one."

Cloudjumper says, "Hicca is to be kept out of this." Cloudjumper looks to the King, "I don't care what you or Valka says. Hicca has seen enough death in her life." He then looks back to see Hicca and Toothless twirl in a dance, "She is here to live in safety, not to be a soldier for Haven."

The King firmly states, "Hicca is the only one who can save us. Her destiny is to die in the final battle. When the battle comes it will be either she dies, or we all die." The King looks to Cloudjumper and says, "She is to never know of her fate. It was Valka who found the prophecy after all." The King then walks away but stops and turns his head slightly, "If Hicca knows of her fate then she will not complete the prophecy. Daming all of us to death. Including Valka."

The King walks out of sigh leaving Cloudjumper alone who stomps his foot on the ground then takes a deep breath. He looks back to see Hicca and Toothless now heading back to the nest they share. He remembers that Valka is still missing and is determined to find her, but he makes an oath to protect Hicca from this cruel fate.

Cloudjumper with determination takes off and heads to the lowest part of Haven to see what he can do to spare Hicca. He swears to all that Hicca will live even if he will give up his own life to spare Hicca. Back with the couple. Toothless feels like his life is now his again.

Just outside the Gang's Nest Tree

Hicca fly's with him and he says, "It feels so good to fly with you again, Tooth. I missed it so much." Toothless nods and flaps his wings and replies, "You are amazing Hicca. Thank you for giving me my flight back. I am thankful that you gave me back my wings and never gave up on me." Hicca smiles and says, "I have plans to find ways to make your wing more light and easier to use. But for now I am glad it works well."

The pair fly back to the nest and land with Toothless stumbling a little bit. He shakes his head and Hicca says, "Don't worry. Soon you will be able to land without a problem." She chuckles a bit, "I cannot tell you the number of times I fell after I landed with my new leg." She lifts her prosthetic leg then she moves to remove Toothless's wing and examines his stump.

She finds that the area is rubbed raw, so she makes plans to make it more comfortable for him. After they both remove their prosthetic, they settle in their shared nest. Soon the others return home and they all settle in. Just before the sun rose an alarm was set off. The whole gang responded and have taken off. Hicca gets her talons on and helps get Toothless's new wing on. The pair follow and they see two figures coming in. As they get closer they land with Hicca in the front demanding, "Who are you? Why are you here?"

The owl responds, "Now lass don't tell me you have forgotten me already?" Hicca remains silent and in shock then another she recognizes, "We hopped to find you here Hicca." Hicca rushes forward and wraps her wings around the pair.

The gang are also in shock and Hicca pulls back with tears running down her eyes, "Gobber. Gothi. I thought you were both dead." Gobber chuckles and says, "Nothing can take out old Gobber you know this kiddo." Gothi steps forward and says, "I won't lie it was close, but we managed. We are happy to see you again."

Hicca hugs them both again then Toothless comes up next to her and Gobber says, "It's good to see you lad." Toothless nods his head and that is when Gothi notices, "Your wing is missing? How are you flying?" Toothless answers calmly, "Hicca gave me my flight back."

Both Gobber and Gothi are stunned then Hicca says, "A lot has happened." Gobber nods and says, "I am sure there is. But let's go to your nest and talk." Hicca nods and leads the pair to her nest. Once back home she removes her talon and Toothless's wing. Gobber sees and he says, "You do have a long tale to tell. Last time I saw you, you had both of your talons." Hicca lays down with Toothless next to her and says, "Get comfortable. It is a long story. Starting with after we escaped from Berk."
