Chapter 72:
Surrender Now or Prepare to Fight
Location: Team Rocket HQ
When I finally came two, I found myself in a jail cell. There were laser beam bars; I didn't dare touch them.
"Oh no," I said. "I… gotta get outta here! Incineroar, I-" I felt around; my Pokéballs were missing! "No no no, this can't be! Where have they-"
"They stole them," came a familiar voice.
"Hau? HAU? Are you there?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's me!" he said. "I'm fine, just missing Pokémon."
"Did you get my email?" I asked.
"What email?" Hau replied.
"Well, we need to get out of here," I said.
"Don't," Hau said. "Those laser beams. If we touch them on purpose, a trap door will open, and we'll land in the ocean."
My heart dropped. "Oh. Then, what are we going to do? Guys? Are you there?"
We didn't hear a response.
"Hey! You Team Rainbow Rocket twits! Let us go this instance!"
"Stop it!" Hau said. "Can't you see? We've failed. We'll just… waste away in here."
"No!" I said. I banged the wall of my cell. "This… this can't happen!" Tears rolled down my cheek. "Now Team Rainbow Rocket will… take over the world. And Hau… I shouldn't have let you go…"
"None of that was your fault," he said. "That was Faba's doing. Did you launch the electronic nets to?"
He was right. "But still. I guess… this is how… our journey…"
Suddenly, we heard banging. "Who goes there?" Hau asked.
I went for my Pokéball, but then realised; yeah. I don't have them. "Whoever is there, we're not afraid!"
A dent in the wall was forming. Tears turned to sweat as I dreaded what would happen…
The wall burst open. Two Trainers, both men, came through. One with an Empoleon and Toxicroak, the other with a Typhlosion.
"Are you Elliott and Hau?"
"Yes!" I said, standing us.
"Do it Ethan!" the man with the Empoleon shouted.
"Typhlosion, Flamethrower!" Typhlosion shot fire at a mechanism, and the laser beams dissipated.
"Thank you," I said. "Wait… you're Lucas? Champion of Sinnoh?"
"Yep!" he replied.
"But… who called for you?"
"That would be me! Roto!" Rotom Dex appeared from behind them.
"Rotom!" I shouted. We hugged.
"We found this thing locked up," Ethan mentioned. "When he asked where you were, we made that our priority to save you. Sadly, this means that the others here are locked up."
"And you can't save them without these!" Ethan said, handing me my Pokéballs. "I have yours to Hau."
"Thank you!" I said, taking them. "Okay, let's go save our friends!"
We ran back to the teleportation room.
"So, where do we search first?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm not too sure," Ethan said. "But we will find them, I swear."
Just then, we saw the doors to what was Giovanni's room open. "This must be the big man," said Lucas.
We all stood our ground. But instead of Giovanni, it was a man in a gold and navy robe.
"That's not Giovanni," Hau said.
The man clapped. "Very observant."
"That's Ghetsis," Lucas said. "He's one of Team Plasma's Seven Sages and has led the show twice."
"And you two." Ghetsis laughed maniacally. "This mission… it's a calling! In my world, all Pokémon have been liberated! I… am the only one who can use Pokémon! The Unova region was mine for the taking! But when I thought I had done everything… I was here. And yes, with Giovanni's help, only I will be able to use Pokémon!"
"Like you will!" Ethan said.
"Lucas, Hau," I said. "Find the others. Ethan will take on Ghetsis, I'll protect him from any other threats."
The two nodded. "We'll be back," Lucas replied as they ran off.
"And as for you," Ghetsis said. "You are just as worthless as… my son. My… fake king! Have at you!"
Ethan Vs. Team Rainbow Rocket Ghetsis
"Go Cofagrigus!" Ghetis shouted, sending out a golden Pokémon that looked like a sarcophagus.
"I choose Typhlosion!" Ethan shouted. He sent out a Fire Type. "Use Shadow Claw!" Typhlosion's hand was lunged into the floor where its shadow stretched out to slash at Cofagrigus. It was Super Effective. It didn't do as much damage as we thought it would. Additionally, Typhlosion's Ability was changed to Mummy.
"Cofagrigus' Defenzze izz out of thizz world! Roto!"
"Now Cofagrigus, Shadow Ball!" Cofagrigus fired a black ball at Typhlosion.
"Come back with Flamethrower!" Typhlosion shot fire at Cofagrigus. This caused it to become burned.
"And now use Psychic!" Using Psychic energy, Cofagrigus blasted Typhlosion across the room.
"Use Shadow Claw again!" Typhlosion slashed at Cofragrigus once again. This Critical Hit defeated it.
"You brat! Go Seismitoad!" Next was a blue Pokémon with bumps all over its body.
Ethan recalled Seismitoad. Knowing what he was up against, it was a good choice. "I choose Venomoth!" he shouted back, sending out a Bug Type. "Use Quiver Dance!" Venomoth fluttered about, raising its Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense and Speed.
"Seismitoad, use Rain Dance!" Seismitoad made a rain cloud above us. It started raining indoors. "And now use Hydro Pump!" Seismitoad then blasted high-pressure water at Venomoth. It fell back. Thank goodness for the Quiver Dance boost.
"Where did that Speed come from?!" I shouted.
"Swift Swim," Ethan said. "It doubles Seismitoad's Speed in the rain. Venomoth, Bug Buzz!" Venomoth flapped its wings and caused some green soundwaves to hit Seismitoad. This caused its Sp. Defense to fall.
"And now use Earth Power!" Seismitoad sent a shockwave through the ground. Despite being in the air, Venomoth was hit. It was defeated.
"Not good. But I can still win! Go Suicune!" Next up was a Legendary Water Type Pokémon.
"Unbelievable! Roto! We're seeing so many Legendariezz at the moment!"
"Use Drain Punch!" Seismitoad punched Suicune, draining some of its HP.
"Hydro Pump!" Suicune blasted water at Seismitoad, knocking it out.
"You are… go Eelektross!" Next was an Electric Type.
"Thanks," said Ethan, recalling Suicune. "Golem, I choose you!" A Ground Type was a great idea. I saw Ghetsis smile; he had something up his sleeve.

Why Ethan was using it with Rain Dance still in effect was beyond me then.
I saw Eelektross tightening its focus. "Golem, Earthquake!" Golem made the entire ground shake, but Eelektross took no damage! "What?!"
"Ha ha ha!" Ghetsis laughed. "It's Eelektross' Levitate. It means that Ground Type moves won't work. Which gives me the perfect chance to pull off a Focus Punch!" Eelektross punched Golem VERY hard. Thankfully Golem had Sturdy so it wasn't quite knocked out. But even at that, Eelektross was faster. "Use Dragon Claw!" Eelektross then swiped at Golem with its claw, defeating Golem.
"He's cunning," Ethan said. "No, I can still win!" At that point, the rain cleared. "This is my match! Go Typhlosion!" His Starter came out again. "Flamethrower!" Typhlosion shot fire at Eelektross again. This time, it was burned.
"Use Wild Charge!" Eelektross covered itself in electricity, then charged into Typhlosion. Eelektross took recoil damage in the process.
"Flamethrower once more!" Typhlosion defeated Eelektross with one last Fire Type attack.
"GRRRR! Go Bouffalant!" Next up was a fluffy-brown Pokémon with two horns.
"And I choose Togekiss!" replied Ethan, sending out a white Pokémon with blue and red spots on it. "Use Aura Sphere!" Togekiss fired a blue orb at Bouffalant, doing about half to it.
"Bouffalant, Head Charge!" Bouffalant charged into Togekiss with all its might. It was a very powerful attack that did recoil to Bouffalant.
"That was strong!" I shouted.
"It must be Reckless," said Ethan. "It's an Ability that powers up attacks that do recoil to the user. Togekiss, we can use it to our advantage! Aura Sphere!" One more Fighting Type attack knocked out Bouffalant.
"I won't lose this. Go Bisharp!" Next was a Dark and Steel Type.
"Aura Sphere!" Bisharp was dealt with in one fell swoop.
"Okay. You have asked for it. Go Hydreigon!" Out came Ghetsis' strongest Pokémon.
"Big deal!" Ethan said. "My Togekiss is a Fairy Type! You don't stand a chance!"
"Oh, do I? Hydreigon, use Fire Blast!" Hydreigon blasted fire at Togekiss. It was down.
"You still have three left! Roto!"
"You're right. And one of them is Ampharos!" Next was a yellow Pokémon with a long tail that had an orb on the end of it.

"Hydreigon, use Focus Blast!" Hydreigon fired a ball of energy at Ampharos. It did a lot to it.
"Come back with Dragon Pulse!" Ampharos fired back Dragon Type energy at Hydreigon. More than half its health was blasted away.
"I'll show you a Dragon Pulse!" Hydreigon used Dragon Pulse back, finishing Ampharos.
"Go Suicune!" shouted Ethan.
"Dragon Pulse!" Another Dragon Type move fired that almost knocked out Suicune.
"Blizzard!" Suicune then shot a snowstorm at Hydreigon. It was done.
"Graaaah! Spoiled brats!"
"It's over!" I said.
"No…" he said. "It's not. Not until I overthrow Giovanni and then liberate EVERYONE'S POKÉMON!"
At that point, Lucas arrived with Hilbert and Rosa.
"YOU!" they both shouted.
"Urggh. I'll… BE BACK, AND WITH A VEANGANCE!" As he said that, Ghetsis teleported away.
"Ghetsis!" Hilbert shouted.
"Where did he go off to?" Rosa said.
"Nevermind him now," I said. "What about you two? Are you alright?"
"Yeah," Hilbert said. "Just a bit shook up at the moment."
"We should stay focused," Ethan said. "Ghetsis is taken care of. What we need to focus on now is Cyrus and Lysandre."
"I want to take on Lysandre," said Lucas.
Calem nodded. "Fine, but Cyrus goes immediately afterwards."
Deciding that was a good course of action, we went through the right warp pad to Lysandre's room.
We got there and saw the Team Flare logo on multiple flags around the room. There he was, the madman himself. Lysandre.
"So," Calem said. "You did the deed?"
"Why do you ask?" Lysandre replied. "After I caused a mad genocide on Kalos, I came to a realisation. This world. It needs to be more beautiful."
I didn't know what he meant. "What are you talking about?. If what you said is true, then YOU uncovered the Ultimate Weapon and, using Yveltal's power, finished everyone but Team Flare in the process, along with Guru Gurkinn."
I saw Calem clench his fist as he said this. "Lysandre!" he shouted. "You're a monster!"
We saw a tear roll down his cheek. "Crying?" Ethan said.
"Pokémon," Lysandre replied. "Condemned by humans, to do horrible things. YOU TELL THAT TO THE MAN WHO USED THE POWER OF HIS OWN POKÉMON TO CREATE A TERRIFYING WEAPON!"
"HE USED IT TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE!" Calem replied. "Okay this is going nowhere. Come on, this nutjob is going down."
Lysandre put his hand to his heart. "It will be my duty to battle, monsieur."
It started. "Let's do this!" Lucas shouted.
"Hold on," Lysandre said. "Behind me, you will see two buttons." We saw them; an orange and blue. "One of them will activate the Ultimate Weapon, the other will do nothing but stop it. Make your decision."
We all looked at Calem. "It's your decision," I said. "You've fought this guy before."
Calem gulped and walked over to the blue button. He pushed it.
"So," Lysandre said. "You pushed the right one."
"Yeah," Calem said. "I learned my lesson from when I beat you!"
"And now!" Lucas said. "You will have to answer to me!"

"Go Mienshao!" Lysandre shouted. He sent out a pink Pokémon with whips on its arms.

"U-Turn!" Mienshao jumped at Drifblim, then it was recalled. Out then came a brown Pokémon with a red and yellow mane.

"Now Pyroar, Crunch!" Pyroar sunk its teeth into Drifblim for Super Effective damage.
"No you don't! Return!" Lucas recalled Drifblim. "I choose you Empoleon!" Empoleon came out to take another Crunch.
"Now use Flamethrower!" Pyroar shot fire at Empoleon.
"Counter with Hydro Pump!" Empoleon shot water at Pyroar. The Super Effective hit took it down in one.
"No. You are preventing the world from achieving true beauty! Mienshao!" Out came the Fighting Type again.
"Go Drifblim!" Lucas shouted, sending out his Ghost Type once again.
"U-Turn!" Meinshao jumped into Drifblim and went back to Lysandre. Lysandre then sent out his next Pokémon, Honchkrow.
"Right into my trap!" Lucas shouted. "Icy Wind!" Drifblim fired a cold breeze at Honchkrow. Its Speed fell. "Okay, come back! Go Mamoswine!" Next up was an Ice Type; great advantage!
"Use Steel Wing!" Honchkrow's wings turned to metal, and it hit Mamoswine.
"Use Blizzard!" Lucas shouted back as Mamoswine fired a snowstorm at Honchkrow. It almost defeated it. "And now use Ice Shard!" Mamoswine fired a chunk of ice at Honchkrow. It was finished.
"No. I will not lose to you! Mienshao!" The Fighting Type came out again.
Lucas recalled Mamoswine. "Toxicroak, go!" Lucas shouted. A Poison Type was a great idea!
"Bounce!" Suddenly, Mienshao jumped up. It avoided a Poison Jab. It then came down and landed on Toxicroak. It defeated it in one blow.
"No!" we all shouted.
"It's not over! Go Drifblim!" Out came the Ghost Type once again.
"U-Turn!" Mienshao attacked Drifblim and went back. In its place? A Gyarados.

Suddenly, multiple flying things came towards Lysandre. He put on a backpack and robotic arms connected them. Lysandre then put on some orange glasses. "I am at my wits end!" Lysandre showed us a Mega Stone. "You know this, don't you Calem?"
Calem gritted his teeth. "You didn't earn that! You… ended an innocent life to get it! And that's not how it works!"
A grin came from Lysandre. "I ended a life to make a more beautiful world." He put it inside a Mega Ring. "Now Gyarados, IT IS TIME!" Light surrounded Gyarados. When it died, we saw a blue and black Gyarados with a long whisker.

"Regular Gyarados izz bad enough! Roto! Now we have to deal with itzz Mega?"
The Icy Wind didn't do much, but at least its Speed fell. "Use Crunch!" Mega Gyarados chomped down on Drifblim hard, defeating it in one blow. However, the Aftermath did do some damage to Mega Gyarados.
"Luxray, I choose you!" shouted Lucas. An Electric Type seemed like a good idea. "Use Wild Charge!" Luxray's body was covered in electricity, and it slammed itself into Mega Gyarados. This was at the expense of some recoil damage though.
"Use Earthquake!" Mega Gyarados made the ground shake. Luxray was down.
"No!" Lucas shouted. "Okay Blissey, go!" Out came a round-pink Pokémon with feathers on it.

"Gyarados, Earthquake!" Gyarados made the ground shake again, doing quite a bit to Blissey.
"Come back with Focus Blast!" Blissey fired a ball at Mega Gyarados and it hit, defeating it.
"Go Yveltal!" Out came the red Pokémon in the shape of a Y.
"So, he caught it," said Calem. "I had the power of Xerneas with me, but I believe in Lucas!"
"Yveltal, Dark Pulse!" Yvetal fired black energy at Blissey. It didn't do much.
"Use Soft Boiled!" Blissey healed a lot of HP!
"And now use Oblivion Wing!" Yveltal then fired a beam at Blissey. It healed some HP in return.
"Focus Blast!" Blissey fired another Focus Blast. Yveltal was hit big time.
"Psychic!" Yveltal blasted Blissey with Psychic energy.
"That's enough," Lucas said. He recalled Blissey and sent out Empoleon who took two Psychics. "And now use Flash Cannon!" Empoleon fired a white beam at Yveltal. Its Sp. Defense fell.
"Now use Shadow Ball!" Yveltal fired a black ball at Empoleon.
"Finish with Hydro Pump!" A blast of water finished off the Legendary.
Lysandre threw his glasses onto the ground. "You are a blight on this world!"
Lysandre's gadget suddenly malfunctioned. "This won't be the last you see of me. Just you wait! I've already created a more beautiful world merely by ridding it of its imperfections, and I will do the same here!" With that, he teleported off.
"Stop!" Calem shouted.
"Relax," I said. "We should focus on defeating Cyrus now."
We went throw the warp pad and back to the main room.
"One left," I said. "Looks like Hau isn't back yet. Has something happened to him again?"
"He'zz fine! Roto! I hope. But thizz izz Hau! Azz far azz I'm concerned, Alola'zz second strongezzt Trainer!"
"Yeah!" Ethan said. "We have our own battling to do!"
We went through the other warp pad to see Cyrus. His menacing stare with his spiky blue hair.
"So," Lucas asked. "How's the new universe treating you?"
"New universe?" Cyrus asked. "I… do not have a new universe. I conquered an existing one."
"What is he talking about?" Rosa asked. "What does he mean by that?"
Cyrus held out his hand. "I was so close… but then it happened. That turned out to be an omen!"
"Stop talking in riddles!" Lucas shouted.
"Don't worry," Hilbert said. "A battle will get it out of him!"
"A battle you say? Okay, that sounds good."
Hilbert readied himself.

"Houndoom, go!" Cyrus shouted. He sent out a black Pokémon with what looked like bones all over its body.

They spew flames mixed with poison to finish off their opponents. They divvy up their prey evenly among the members of their pack.
Houndour -Lv 24- Houndoom
"And I choose Samurott!" Hilbert shouted, sending out his Water Type.
"Dark Pulse!" Houndoom fired dark energy at Samurott. It hit.
"Come back with Hydro Pump!" Samurott shot high-pressure water at Houndoom. It was finished in one shot.
"Urgh. Okay Honchkrow, you're next!" Out came another Honchkrow to fight.
"Return," said Hilbert, recalling Samurott. "You're up Zekrom!" The Legendary Electric Type was summoned. At this point, the surprise had been lost of seeing a Legendary. "Use Fusion Bolt!" Covered in electricity, Zekrom charged into Honchkrow. It almost defeated it.
"Night Slash!" Honchkrow's wings went darker and it slashed at Zekrom.
"Come back with Outrage!" Getting angry, Zekrom slashed at Honchkrow. That finished the job.
"Urgh. Go Weavile!" With an Ice Type, Hilbert knew it was time to switch.
"Come back," he told Zekrom. "Go Scrafty!" Now a Fighting Type was a great idea!
"Weavile, Swords Dance!" Weavile danced about, raising its Attack stat.
"High Jump Kick!" Scrafty jumped forward, but missed! It collided with a wall, doing damage to it.
"Weavile, Aerial Ace!" Weavile dove into Scrafty. It almost finished it.
"High Jump Kick again!" Scrafty this time successfully kicked Weavile, knocking it out in one blow.
"Go Crobat!" Yeah we were starting to get bored of seeing this Pokémon to. "Use Cross Poison!" Crobat slashed at Scrafty in a cross formation, knocking it out.
"Go Zekrom!" Hilbert yelled. Out came his Legendary again.
"Use Cross Poison!" Crobat slashed at Zekrom. This caused it to become poisoned. Not good.
"Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Crobat covered in electricity. But it didn't quite defeat it!
"Now use X-Scissor!" Crobat then slashed at Zekrom once again.
"Use Zen Headbutt!" Zekrom's head started glowing, and it hit Crobat. This fainted it.
"Grr… Gyarados!" Next up, a Water and Flying Type. Why this was, we didn't know. "Ice Fang!" Gyarados' teeth froze and it chomped down onto Zekrom. It was a Critical Hit; Zekrom was finished.
"He defeated the Legendary Zekrom! Roto!"
"Urgh. Excadrill, go!" He sent out a brown Pokémon with a drill on its head and on its hands. "Use Rock Slide!" Excadrill made rocks fall from the sky onto Gyarados.
"Gyarados, use Aqua Tail!" Gyarados' tail went wet, and it hit Excadrill for lots of damage.
"Rock Slide again!" Excadrill made some more rocks fall, and Gyarados was finished.
Angrily, Cyrus got out a Pokéball. "You want to know what happened? I was there, on top of Spear Pillar, where that stupid girl and her blonde friend were trying to stop me. But when I had almost succeeded in my plans… something popped up from a black hole and dragged me in. Together… we ruled a new world! I had no need for that other one!" He threw it and sent out a large Pokémon with golden wings.
"That can't be!" Rosa said. "The Legendary Pokémon of the Distortion World, Giratina?!"
Cyrus smiled. "Yes. You can keep your universe, I have mine!"
"Gladly! Now Excadrill, Earthquake!" Excadrill made the ground shake.
"Aura Sphere!" Giratina fired a ball of blue energy at Excadrill. It hit, knocking it out.
"Unbelievable. Okay Chandelure, you're up!" Next was a Pokémon that was basically a haunted Chandelier.
"Shadow Force!" Giratina suddenly disappeared, dodging a Shadow Ball from Chandelure. It then appeared and hit Chandelure for a lot.
"Come back with another Shadow Ball!" Chandelure managed to hit Giratina for a ton of damage.
"Now use Dragon Claw!" Giratina slashed Chandelure, knocking it out.
"Okay Gothitelle, you're next!" A Psychic Type? Well, he was running out of options.
"Shadow Force!" Giratina disappeared suddenly.
"Okay Gothitelle, Calm Mind!" Gothitelle took a deep breath. Its Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense rose.
"Now!" Shadow Force hit Gothitelle. It didn't quite fall.
"And now use Psychic!" Gothitelle blasted Giratina with Psychic energy. It was defeated.
"Urgh! Why?!"
Cyrus angrily recalled Giratina. "I've changed my mind. This world… it shall be mine!" With that, he disappeared.
"What's he gonna do?" Lucas said.
"Let's just focus on Giovanni now," I said.
We got back to the first room where Hau was waiting with Guzma and Brendan.
"How'd it go?" Hau asked.
"Great," I said. "But we're not finished yet." We saw Giovanni's door open. "Let's do this!"
We all busted in to find… nothing. "What?!" I asked. "Giovanni, come out from hiding!"
On a big screen, we saw Giovanni. "You're too late!" he said. "For now…" With that, he signed off.
"What's going on?" Guzma asked. "Did we win?"

We all walked outside to see Team Rainbow Rocket Grunts in kahoots. They seemed to be battling some people.
"What now?" I asked.
"Look!" Ethan said. We saw the Pokémon they were fighting; Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres! And their Trainers? There was a someone dressed in blue, someone dressed in yellow, and someone dressed in red.
"That's the last one down," the person in blue said.
The man in yellow saw us. "Well, if it isn't an ensemble of Champions!" They all ran over.
"We we're waiting for you," the woman in red said. "My name is Candela, Leader of Team Valor. This is my Partner, Moltres."
"I'm Blanche, Leader of Team Mystic. I use Articuno. Please, refer to me by they/them pronouns."
"Sup! Names Sparky! I use Zapdos!"
"Team who?" we all responded.
"Look," Blanche said. "We were called here to stop Team Rainbow Rocket. But it seems, that at least for now, you've done the job for us. We want to thank you. You can take a break."
"Oh, okay," I said.
"So… what now?" Ethan asked.
"To the Battle Tree of course!" Calem replied.
"Sounds like a good idea," Candela said. "Also, someone is waiting for you over there. Elliott, I believe it is?"
I nodded. "Got it, but I'll be there in a couple of days."
"That's fine," Blanche said. "Get some rest for now."
Aether Paradise – Poni Island
Location: Seafolk Village
It was night by the time we got to the Seafolk Village. We were all exhausted.
"I can't believe it! Roto! So many Championzz and former Championzz together, azz well azz our alliezz!"
"Yeah," I said. "Listen, I need a walk."
I got up and had a stroll along the pier. I looked up at the night sky. "Stressed?" I saw Hau.
"Yeah," I said. "And… gosh. I know we need to let off some steam, but I just can't believe they are back. Everyone, and they might be coming back with an even bigger team."
Hau smiled. "Hey, I know that. But we have an ensemble of some of the strongest Pokémon Trainers and Guzma in the world!"
"Heard that yo!" Guzma shouted.
"My point is, whatever Team Rainbow Rocket throws at us, we can take it on! And with those other people on our side… I think we might be unstoppable."
He was right. "I'm… just thinking about Lillie to."
"I get that to," Hau replied. "You'll meet again someday though, I can guarantee it!"
"I hope so," I replied. "Now, let's get some sleep. We have a couple of big days ahead of us."
