Chapter 63:

The Challenge of Tapu Koko

Location: Iki Town

The Festival was wild. Honestly even bigger than the one I had when I started my journey. All the Kahuna's, Trial Captains and other friends I had met were there. Kiawe was fire dancing with his Marowak, Sophecles and Molayne were showing off their latest projects and even Nanu came! That was impressive.

"It's wonderful, isn't is?" Lillie asked me as we drunk some Pinap Juice.

"Yeah," I said, looking down sadly at the ground.

"What'zz wrong? Roto? Thizz izz your celebration, have some fun!"

"It'zz not that," I said. "Lillie, when are you going off to Kanto?"

"Oh," she said. "Wicke booked the ferry. I'm… going tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" I said. "But…"

"Oh," Rotom Dex said. "I guezz thizz celebration izz alzzo your send-off then. Zzt zzt."

"I guess you could say that," Lillie replied.

"Hey!" said Mallow. "We need a speech from the new Champion!"

"Oh," I said. "Of course." I got up onto the stage. Everyone looked at me. "I… want to thank everyone here. You have all assisted me into completing this journey in someway shape or form. And… well I suppose it's onto the next adventure."

"And what will that be?" shouted Guzma. Oh yeah, that's right. Team Skull are still a thing, but they are now dedicated to helping people of Alola. Well, they have no choice to. Because of their schemes, they are on Community Service. But they have been allowed the day off to attend this party because in a weird way, Team Skull helped me get stronger.

"Well…" I thought about what Gladion had said at the base of Mount Lanakila. Apparently, Faba isn't finished. But this was a party. It was supposed to be a celebration. Not a cause for concern. "I mean… after a break, I promised I would help the Ultra Recon Squad get home." I saw them and waved.

"Great idea!" shouted Wicke. "I will help you every step of the way! I'm busy finalising some bits so take all the time off you need!"

"Okay!" I said. "Let's partaaaayy!"

Everyone cheered as Ryuki came on and started playing his guitar. Very, very poorly. Kinda killed the mood a bit. We just hooked up a stereo and played some music from there.

"Nice speech!" Lillie told me. "So… do you maybe want to go on one last adventure together?"

"Where?" I asked.

"To where we first met!" she said. "Mahalo Trail! They've built a new bridge."

"Sounds good!" I said. I went over to the Profe- I mean Masked Royal and told him that I was having a good time, but I needed a walk to clear my head and to catch up with Lillie for the last time for… I don't know how long. He completely understood.

"Of course!" he said. "Have fun!"

Location: Mahalo Trail

The two of us got to the bridge. It was made of a fine wood that won't be breaking anytime soon.

"You ready?" I asked. "Do you want to cross toge-"

"Made it!" Lillie had already made it to the other side.

"Oh," I said. "Got it." I saw Spearow circling above, but they left me alone.

On the other side of the bridge was the Ruins of the Conflict. The archway had some yellow paint on it.

"I think we should give our thanks to Tapu Koko," I said.

"Are you sure? Roto? You may be Champion, but the Island Guardianzz are hard to imprezz."

"Let's go!" I said.

Location: Ruins of Conflict

We all wandered through the ruins. On the walls were engravings of Tapu Koko battling various threats including a tidal wave and even Lunala itself.

"It has seen so much," I said.

We got to the end of the ruins where Tapu Koko's shrine laid.

"Ready?" Lillie asked.

"Tapu Koko!" I said. "Are you there?"

Tapu Koko's cry appeared from behind us followed by flying volts of electricity. I turned round to see it.

"Amazzzing! Roto!"

Tapu Koko (カプ・コケコ)

#383

Electric/Fairy Type

Land Spirit Pokémon

5'11" (1.8 m)

45.2 lbs (20.5 kg)

The guardian deity of Melemele is brimming with curiosity. It summons thunderclouds and stores their lightning inside its body.

Legendary Pokémon

Tapu Koko came over to me and handed me… a Z-Ring? But this was black and had a different shapes Z-Crystal slot, though not so different that ones couldn't be stored inside.

"Thanks," I said. From Tapu Koko's other hand were two Z-Crystals, though one was shaped differently. They had two diamond shapes on the end. One had the moon symbol on it and the other was normal shaped, yellow and had a Guardian symbol on them. I went to take them, but Tapu Koko hesitated. It then started edging me on.

"I know what it wantzz! Roto!"

"Me to!" I replied. "Then let's give it to it!"

Elliott Vs. Tapu Koko

"I choose Snorlax!" I shouted, just as the whole temple went yellow. Electricity crackled from everywhere. "Is this Electric Terrain?" I asked.

"It'zz Tapu Koko'zz Ability! Roto! Electric Surge brings in an Electric Terrain azz soon azz it startzz!"

Tapu Koko then fired a ball of electricity at Incineroar. "That's Electro Ball! Okay Snorlax, High Horsepower!" Snorlax kicked Tapu Koko for lots of damage. About half in fact. Tapu Koko then made everything swirl around. It hit Snorlax, taking away half its health.

"That's Nature's Madness!" Lillie told me. "It cuts HP in half!"

"Snorlax, Heavy Slam!" Snorlax jumped onto Tapu Koko, almost defeating it. Tapu Koko then used Discharge. Sparks flew everywhere, hitting Snorlax. "You're strong!"

"Elliott, you're not!" Lillie said.

"Worth a shot! Go!" I threw an Ultra Ball at Tapu Koko. It went inside. The Pokéball shook… and Tapu Koko broke free!

"Almozzt! Roto!"

Tapu Koko then used Nature's Madness again. Snorlax was almost down.

"One more time!" I shouted, throwing another Ultra Ball. Did I catch it this time?

Yes, I did!

"HE DIDN'T!" Both my allies said.

I picked up Tapu Koko's Ball. "I… really did it," I said. "But… whilst it is my Pokémon now… I can't bring it with me." I opened the Pokéball and Tapu Koko popped out. "Tapu Koko, you will fight by my side when I need you. But I understand that your duty is to protect Melemele Island, so rather than staying in the PC, you may stay here. We've just had a time of crisis, and if what Gladion says is true, we might be going through another one."

"So, Faba is doing it," Lillie said to herself.

"What?" I asked.

"I…I…"

"Hey," I said. "It's fine. Whatever Faba has planned, I will stop it. No, we will stop it." I looked towards Tapu Koko. "I will go and catch the other Island Guardians, but I want to sit back for a bit first. May I have permission to?"

Tapu Koko screamed, and lightning came off of it. "I think that'zz a yezz! Roto!"

"Now let's get back to the party!"

Location: Iki Town

"We're back!" I said.

"Great!" said the Masked Royal. He then held up my right hand. "A toast to the first Champion of Alola!"

"Hip hip…

Hooray!"

Alola to my new life as Champion.

The S.S. Moana gave a hoot to let Lillie and Gladion know that is what time to head off. Me, Hau, Rotom Dex, Professor Kukui, Professor Burnet and Wicke promised to see them off.

"So…" I said. "Where first?"

"Vermillion City," she replied. "That's where the ship stops at."

"As for me," Gladion said. "I want to see the famous Bill. He might know a thing or two about Ultra Beasts."

"Last call for Vermillion City!" said the Captain.

"Keep in contact," I said, as a tear rolled down my cheek. Lillie got out a handkerchief and wiped it for me. "I'll be back," she said. We brought our faces closer to each other. But just before we could make contact, Gladion spoke.

"Come on," he said. "We'll miss it."

I nodded, as the two of them went up the bridge to the boat. After that, the bridge was taken away and the boat went off.

"Come back to Alola when you can!" I shouted.

"We will!" Lillie said. "And good luck getting the Aether Foundation home!"

I ran along the dock as far as I could and watched the boat go over the horizon.
