Welcome back to "Through the Rough", everyone! I've been breezing through a lot of these chapters lately, mainly thanks to how they're adaptations of the episodes from the series. I know a lot of you are probably wondering how I'll be executing the rest of Season 5, and I'll just say I'm going to do story arcs in the order they were originally intended.
With how everything's gone thus far, I'm very excited to get moving further on this story! Thanks for your support, and I hope you enjoy the chapter!
THROUGH THE ROUGH
"AAAAAHHHH!" Weisz screamed out, "What the hell's with all these mushrooms?!" he inquired, frantically trying to scrape the appearing fungi off of himself. More and more were appearing around him and Momo. "Oh, you gotta be kidding me!" he yelled in frustration, "This is that mushroom girl's Quirk?!" he inquired out of shock.
"These fields of fungus are appearing on every surface…" Fumikage pointed out, still airborne thanks to Dark Shadow while carrying Yuga.
"So this mess of champignons… is it?" the Navel Laser Quirk user assumed.
"Yes…" his teammate responded as mushrooms started sprouting upon them, "A planned attack…" he confirmed on. With Kinoko's Quirk in play, she could release mushroom spores from her body, growing all kinds while using her spray bottles, increasing the area's humidity to further her power's range.
"Ah… they've got shrooms growing all over their bodies?!" Minoru exclaimed from the viewing section.
"How troubling…" Homura commented.
"That's so gross…" Rebecca shuddered out.
"Gag…" Kyoka bluntly said while shivering.
"This is like a serious horror movie…" the Pop Off Quirk user added.
"Don't worry, those mushrooms fall off and disappear in two to three hours, tops," Yosetsu explained to the Class A students, "Your classmates are gonna be fine, which is why Komori isn't gonna hold back," he affirmed on.
"Look, they're growing over the camera!" Ochaco pointed out.
"That's scary…" Koji noted, trembling a little.
"Midoriya, do you know what Yaomomo and the others could do about those mushrooms?" Mina asked of the One For All inheritor, who put his right hand onto his chin in thought.
"Komori's Quirk works best when it comes to the humidity," he pointed out, "However, she can't sprout her mushrooms in areas where they wouldn't be able to grow properly," he mentioned on, "So in that case…" he continued. Gritting his teeth back in the training ground, Weisz rolled up his right sleeve.
"Creati, catch!" he yelled, tossing her his rifle, "I've modified it into a flamethrower for ya!" he pointed out, equipping his Arsenal armor over himself, "Let's roast these shrooms!" he insisted of her, "Atlas Flame!" he yelled, modifying a flamethrower of his own over his right arm to spray fire onto the fields of fungi.
"W-Wait, Steiner!" the Creation Quirk user stammered, getting his attention, "This could be exactly what they want us to do!" she pointed out.
"Huh?" he uttered in surprise.
"Wham! Thud! Boom-boom!" a voice echoed from the pipework, causing the pair to perk up, "Aaaaahhh! Crash! Bam!" he exclaimed on.
"The hell…?" Weisz said, only for something to suddenly crash between him and Momo.
"Another assault?!" Fumikage exclaimed in surprise as he and Yuga flew away from the scene. As the dust settled, the Machina Maker Quirk user sat up, widening his eyes under his helmet.
"Y-You gotta be kidding me!" he stammered out, getting to his feet. A huge wall of Japanese characters had appeared in front of him. "Where'd these damn words come from?!" he inquired frantically. The wall of words was a result of Manga's Quirk, giving him the ability to manifest onomatopoeias and other such sound effects from comics.
"Fwoosh! Fwoosh! Pow-pow! Thud! Thud! THUD!" he bellowed on.
"Aw, not again…!" Weisz grumbled as he could feel an incoming rumbling, "Creati, can you hear me?!" he called out, right before more characters suddenly appearing, blocking him off more from his teammates, "Damn!" he cursed.
"This is madness…" Momo uttered from the other side of the wall, "Steiner, remove your suit!" she instructed, trying to get his attention, "We can't afford to have you wasting your Quirk's energy!" she noted loudly to him. Unfortunately, Weisz was distracted as he could see more onomatopoeias floating by.
"Uh… damp?" he uttered in confusion with a tilt of his head. All of a sudden, he yelped to find the mushrooms growing even faster. "Oh man, that's some kinda crazy word humidifier!" he realized, hurrying away while unleashing streams of fire onto the growing fungi, "Well, you're not catching the great Arsenal!" he proclaimed.
"He totally just screwed himself, didn't he?" Mina presumed from the viewing section.
"I don't know if he even could've done anything else…" Izuku admitted.
"Hey, Tsukuyomi!" Weisz called out to his airborne teammates, "Got an idea as to how we can take out these word things?!" he questioned of them.
"My Navel Laser couldn't cut them earlier!" Yuga pointed out in reply.
"Don't worry, Arsenal!" Fumikage assured, "Let's regroup with Creati and find a way to fend off these fungi!" he insisted. Hearing that, Weisz came to a stop as he glanced back at the wall of words. He remembered Momo's warning to him, along with the fact that the onomatopoeias had specifically separated the rest of the team from her.
'That must've been their plan from the beginning!' he realized, grimacing under his helmet as he hurried off.
"Arsenal, wait!" Fumikage called out, soaring after him.
OPENING
Insert "Kizuna no Kiseki" by MAN WITH A MISSION X Milet
Starts with Class 1-A walking out onto Ground Gamma, dressed in their winter costumes. They discuss amongst themselves what they're hoping to work on for the end of the year, with Izuku leading the way alongside Rebecca. However, they stop as they spot their opponents of Class B, as some of them wave to the group. Neito cackles madly at the sight of them, only to end up chopped in the neck by Itsuka.
What follows is a shot of Laguna, who thinks back to being a part of Oasis with Goodwin and his other friends. He also sees a blurry figure with long, dark hair, only to witness her fade away as he reaches out to her. He opens his eyes, widening them to find Hitoshi there with his new scarf and support item.
We get to see the Shining Star Heroes with brand new costumes, who are gathered with Shota, Sekijiro, Nemuri, and All Might, as they're about to watch the training matches commence. In round one, Rebecca is grouped up with Eijiro, Denki, Tsuyu, and Hitoshi, leading the charge against their opponents as she draws her Happy Blasters and fires. Laguna and Hitoshi come face-to-face, with the former looking rather anxious compared to normal.
The second round features Weisz equipping his Arsenal Mark II armor, using it to defend himself from the onomatopoeias shot towards him by Manga. Meanwhile, Momo finds herself struggling against the likes of Itsuka, whereas Fumikage and Yuga can't seem to overcome the combination of Kinoko and Shihai. As the match continues, Izuku furiously writes down notes on Class B, while Rebecca looks at him and smiles.
In the third round, Homura clashes her energy blades against Kris' wind. The two of them stare each other down determinedly, rushing forward and enveloping themselves in bursts of red and green light respectively before colliding. The fourth round features Kleene using her wind to pull in the likes of Tenya, Mezo, and Mashirao, as the latter of the trio starts getting sucked in. However, he's saved by Shoto as he fires a blast of flames toward the Wind Snatch Quirk user. She dodges, letting off a little grin.
For the fifth round, we see Shiki and Katsuki standing back-to-back as they're surrounded by the multiple pieces of Setsuna's body. The former of the two assumes his Overdrive form, stamping the ground to make the pieces fall instantaneously, followed by the latter firing off a multitude of explosions. From afar, we see Kyoka and Hanta hanging back, glad that they're letting the muscle of their group handle their foes.
Finally, the sixth match features a team of Izuku, Ochaco, Koji, and Mina. The One For All inheritor shoots his girlfriend a reassuring thumbs-up as he enters the stage, making her giggle. However, her expression shifts into one of fear as she witnesses the mass of black energy tendrils that suddenly start rampaging about.
Meanwhile, we go through various scenes of Endeavor, Hawks, Mirko, the I.U.A. Heroes, and many others, including the League of Villains as both Tomura and Shura are standing in the shadows of All For One and Nero respectively. The song winds down, closing out with a picture of Class A gathered together for their joint training session.
END OPENING
"Fukidashi and Komori's Quirks are certainly proving to be quite the turning factor in this battle, having saved Kuroiro as well!" Vlad commented excitedly through his microphone, "Now by attacking in waves, they're giving Class A's team a hard time from a distance!" he pointed out, "My kids are showing their superior strength!" he affirmed on proudly.
"It ain't over yet, old man!" Sister proclaimed through the loudspeakers, "Class A's getting used to Kinoko's fungus trap, and good ol' Manga won't have the strong throat to handle fighting for long…" she noted, "Once they regroup, they're gonna crush you jerks into bits!" she declared with a smirk, sharing a glare with Class B's homeroom teacher.
"Again with the biased commentary!" Mina yelled as she held up her picket sign.
"Yeah, stop!" several Class A and Class B students yelled, holding up their own banners in protest.
"Gonna be hard to break through all those wide-range attacks…" Rikido commented, "Also…" he continued, "if we go overseas, you think Fukidashi's gonna need a translator?" he inquired of Toru.
"No idea…" she responded, scratching her left cheek sheepishly.
"Hey, look at the arena!" Ochaco pointed out.
"Yeah, they separated Yaoyorozu from the rest of her team…" Izuku noted, "Was that a part of their plan?" he wondered aloud. Back on the field, Momo was looking around. Sweat trickled down her face as she had no idea where the rest of her team was. She looked at the flamethrower Weisz had given her, grimacing as she wished she had better explained a counterplan sooner to him. Just then, she perked up in realization.
"Now it's time to finish you off!" Itsuka's voice suddenly exclaimed as she lunged out, getting the Creation Quirk user's attention as she quickly whipped around to see her foe coming. She managed to create a metal shield in the nick of time to block off the enlarged palm of the Big Fist Quirk user, though it didn't hold up as she was knocked down.
'She crumpled a tungsten shield with one hit…!' she noted to herself, grimacing as she sat up. She drew the flamethrower she had been given, unleashing a stream of fire from it. That forced Itsuka to leap back, bracing herself from the flames. However, the fire emitting from the weapon slowly died out.
"Wh-What?!" she stammered out in shock, followed by suddenly needing to endure a shockwave of air that rang out. Itsuka had clapped her enlarged hands together, blowing the flames away.
"Guessing that must be Steiner's, right?" she presumed, getting her foe's attention, "Looks like he didn't give you enough ammo…" she commented, lunging out again. She continued to barrage Momo with furious enlarged punches, while she formed more tungsten shields, bringing them together to block off her attacks. She was frustrated with herself, not feeling worthy enough to take on Itsuka's challenge from earlier.
She thought back to her internship at the I.U.A., where she got to work alongside Rebecca under Jaguar. She too was disheartened over his death back in Camino Ward, and she vowed to get stronger in the wake of that. But since then, not much had changed. She might've gotten her provisional license, but she didn't get a chance to do a work study. Other classmates of hers did. They were proving their mettle over hers.
'Even so, you deemed to call me better…' she noted inwardly as she looked at her foe, 'So I can't let you see me looking pathetic like this!' she affirmed to herself, doing away with her shields. Itsuka closed in with a grin, thinking she had finally gotten the better of Class A's deputy. But she blinked in surprise and widened her eyes to see the multicolored light shining off of her opponent's chest.
"No way…!" she gasped out, seeing that the Creation Quirk user had formed a massive cannon, "A freakin' cannon?!" she exclaimed.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting!" her foe remarked, "It takes time to create something this large!" she pointed out.

"Damn, I totally screwed up!" Weisz grumbled as he and his teammates were scouring about the field in search of a way to get across the wall.
"Calm down, Arsenal!" Fumikage advised from above, "I'm sure Creati has stock on the situation at the other side of this accursed barrier," he noted confidently.
"I don't see any of Class B anywhere…" Yuga commented, getting his attention, "Should we regroup with Yaoyorozu on the other side of the wall?" he inquired of his teammates.
"Yeah, that's probably for the best!" Weisz responded, "She's gonna need backup if she's still by herself!" he pointed out emphatically, "Come on!" he beckoned.
'Why is he so concerned?' Fumikage wondered inwardly, 'I don't believe his intentions are impure, especially from the sound of his voice…' he mentioned to himself. As he weaved his way through the pipework, Shihai suddenly appeared, taking hold of Yuga and snatching him away.
"Oh no! Can't Stop Twinkling!" he exclaimed, causing Weisz to grind to a halt and see the Navel Laser Quirk user getting taken away as he screamed, being carried along a series of dark mushrooms. He and Fumikage hurried after him. However, they failed to take notice of Kinoko nearby.
"The fungus among us is how we'll win!" she exclaimed. With that, mushrooms began sprouting all over the two boys, hindering their pursuit as they slowed down.
"ZOOM! KA-BAM!" Manga yelled from afar, releasing onomatopoeias that bounced off another one, crashing into the pair of Weisz and Fumikage as they were knocked to the ground.
"Damn it…!" the Machina Maker Quirk user cursed, modifying a flamethrower over his right arm, "Atlas—!" He suddenly stopped himself as he looked over to see his teammate getting back to his feet. He undid his remodeling, scraping the mushrooms off of himself. "What do we do now?" he inquired, looking around worriedly.
'At this rate, we're as good as done for…' he noted inwardly with a grimace, 'Creati… I really hope you got an idea for us to make a comeback!' he pleaded through his thoughts. And as it turned out, she did.
"Is she insane?!" Tetsutetsu exclaimed from the viewing section, "She's gonna kill someone with that!" she pointed out.
"That girl really likes her cannons…" Sen commented.
"Awesome!" Shiki exclaimed, while Ochaco gave off a blank, jealous stare toward him.
"That looks like it packs a big punch!" Minoru mentioned.
"Hold on…" Izuku uttered curiously, wondering what exactly Momo was up to. Itsuka thought it was a bluff, then presumed that she was going to fire the cannon to bust through the wall of Japanese characters. The Creation Quirk user whipped the weapon around toward it, seemingly aiming to break it down in one shot. Her foe lunged in, hoping to stop her before she could fire.
"DOUBLE JUMBO FIST!" she roared, striking fiercely with her enlarged extremities, right as Momo fired a blast from the cannon.
"Ah…!" she yelped out in pain. The shot she fired actually went over the wall, with something flying across the sky. Before Itsuka could even guess what it was, she noticed another multicolored light shining from her foe's chest. She grimaced as whatever her opponent was creating shot out at her.
"Hey, did you hear that?" Weisz asked from afar alongside Fumikage, trying to scrape away the mushrooms growing along their bodies.
"It didn't sound like Fukidashi's work…" the Dark Shadow Quirk user pointed out, "It came from the other side of the wall…" he mentioned, looking up. He gasped in surprise to see a bag flying through the air.
"Hey, is that from Creati?" Weisz assumed.
"I'll go get it!" Fumikage decided, leaping up, "Now Dark Shadow!" he called out.
"Right!" the shadowy entity within him responded, wrapping his arms around his user and flying up with him. They caught the bag, which was labeled 'YAOYOROZU'S LUCKY BAG' in colorful lettering.
"What's in the thing?" Weisz asked as his classmate landed down next to him. He undid the string tying the bag together, opening it up. Both he and his colleague blinked in surprise. Meanwhile, Yuga had gotten thrown in the fake jail cell by Shihai, who had regrouped with Kinoko as they were dwelling within the shadows, thinking that their opponents wouldn't be able to find them.
"Our not so fungus opponents don't know where we are!" the Mushroom Quirk user pointed out, spraying water to increase the area's humidity, "So we can keep attacking them with mushrooms like this!" she proclaimed proudly.
"Yeah, of course…" Shihai agreed as he poked out from the shadows of the pipework. He then caught wind of something, turning towards the source of the sound. "Uh… hey, Komori?" he said, getting his teammate's attention.
"Yeah, shroom?" she responded.
"You don't think… Class A knows about this place, do you?" the Dark Quirk user inquired as he was looking through the pipework to try and pinpoint the source of the incoming sound. As it turned out, Fumikage was heading towards them, now fitted with a pair of thermal goggles over his eyes. On top of that, he no longer had any mushrooms upon his body.
FLASHBACK
"Thermal goggles and ethanol?" Weisz noted as he and his classmate had gone through the contents of the bag they caught, "Guess the latter's to deal with all the mushrooms…" he inferred.
"And the former to locate our foes, who lurk in the darkness…" Fumikage presumed on.
"Take the goggles," the Machina Maker Quirk user advised, "Creati probably made 'em with you in mind," he pointed out.
"Very well," his classmate replied, fitting the goggles around his head, "I'll locate our opponents, and we'll strike," he decided, only to notice how apprehensive Weisz seemed, "What's wrong?" he asked.
"She had this backup plan in mind from the outset in case things got rough…." the Machina Maker Quirk user noted, clenching his fists tightly, "I'm the reason we got into the mess in the first place…" he muttered on out of frustration.
"Arsenal…" Fumikage uttered, "Let's make the most of this chance and not waste it," he insisted.
"Right…" Weisz agreed.
END FLASHBACK
"What the what?" Manga uttered in confusion upon seeing Fumikage soar by, "Tokoyami's heading straight towards where Komori is…" he noted aloud, "What's he up to?" he wondered aloud.
"Hey," Weisz's voice chimed in, getting his attention as he yelped in surprise, turning to see the armored teen there, "Doin' good?" he questioned rhetorically, stomping up to the Comic Quirk user, "Funny how there's no mushrooms 'round you guys…" he pointed out, "That's 'cause you disinfected yourselves too, right?" he presumed.
"Wh-What gave you that idea?" Manga stuttered out, taking a nervous step back.
"Uh-uh," Weisz responded, wagging his right point finger, "I'm not telling," he decided, planting his right hand onto the ground, "Here's a sound effect for ya!" he remarked, with yellow-glowing lines spreading beneath his foe's feet, "MORTAL CRASH!" he roared, blasting the ground apart and blowing the Comic Quirk user back as he slammed against more of the pipework.
"Gah…" he groaned out, "Throat's… too sore to use…" he grumbled. The Machina Maker Quirk user stomped over to him.
'Creati, we'll turn the tide and help you out as soon as we can!' he declared inwardly. In the meantime, Fumikage was closing in on Shihai and Kinoko.
"I will not allow you to escape from the storm which you wrought!" he vowed, readying Dark Shadow's claws over his arms, "According to Hawks…" he continued, "speed can easily triumph over strength!" he affirmed as his foes gasped. "Black Abyss… SABBATH!" he roared as he swiped by them with the form of shadowy entity covering his own body.
"Shroomie!" Kinoko exclaimed in pain.
"Komori, no!" Shihai cried out. He needed to find darkness to escape into in order to plan a counterattack. However, Fumikage was quick to take note of that.
"Is it darkness you seek?" he inferred to his surprise. He wound up getting caught in the Dark Shadow Quirk user's cape, with his eyes blinking in disbelief. "Then you can borrow my cloak," his foe said.
"Fumikage, I got the shroom girl!" Dark Shadow affirmed, having wrapped himself around a grimacing Kinoko.
"Nice going, Fumikage!" Rebecca complimented from back in the viewing section, "He caught those two totally off guard!" she pointed out.
"It's all thanks to Yaoyorozu's help, too," Tenya added, "The match has certainly changed in their favor…" he noted.
"…Not quite," Kleene chimed in to their surprise, "Kinoko has another trick up her sleeve," she pointed out.
"What… kinda trick?" Rebecca asked curiously. Just then, she noticed that Fumikage was coughing rather frantically on the screen, clutching his chest as he fell to his knees.
"Whoa, what's happening?!" Minoru inquired out of shock.
"He was fine just a second ago…" Rikido pointed out.
"I see…" Homura said, "The disinfectant was only meant to shield their bodies from mushrooms on the outside, not in," she noted aloud to the shock of the others.
"Quite right, Kogetsu," Neito chimed in, getting her attention, "Komori's Quirk might not scream combat, but she's scary," he told her and the other Class A students, "That stupid bird should've knocked her unconscious before she pulled out her trump card," he affirmed on.
"Hm," she huffed. Meanwhile, Weisz had officially managed to knock Manga unconscious on the ground.
"Huh…" he sighed with relief.
'Okay, Tsukuyomi's probably got those other two handled,' he noted to himself, 'Which means I can go and find Creati—!' He stopped thinking once he turned, finding Itsuka there with Momo. The former was ensnared in ropes protruding from the latter, who also still had the cannon attached to her body. However, her right arm was still free.
"Fukidashi!" she cried out upon seeing her downed teammate. Weisz was stunned to find that Momo was unconscious. She had likely known she would lose in a head-to-head battle against Itsuka, thus why she sent her teammates items to use for later. While the Machina Maker Quirk user appreciated that, it still frustrated him that she had to resort to doing so at all.
"Thanks, Creati…" he said gratefully, lunging out in an instant with the boosters he formed at his ankles, "I'll take it from here!" he declared, about to strike Itsuka, who grimaced. But all of a sudden, the armoring around Weisz peeled away just before he could reach her. "Ah!" he gasped, while those watching widened their eyes.
"He already hit his limit?!" Hanta exclaimed out of shock.
"So even the newer suit's got bad mileage…" Juzo noted curiously. The Machina Maker Quirk user grimaced. With his Quirk's energy depleted, he could only do much. And before he could even think to do anything, Itsuka snatched him with her enlarged right hand, slamming him up against the pipework.
"Damn…" he cursed out.
"Huh…" the Class B representative sighed with relief. Everything that Momo had created in the battle proved that she was looking two steps ahead, even though her teammates were somewhat in disarray. Class A was tough. And they easily could've won.
"Poor Momo…" Rebecca uttered out worriedly.
"I hope she's okay after all that…" Shiki chimed in with crossed arms, earning a nod of agreement from the Cat Leaper Quirk user. She remembered how uncertain of herself the Creation Quirk user was during their first internship under Jaguar.
"Our Creati will grow into a top-class hero one day…" Midnight affirmed.
"Indeed," Witch agreed, "And the others certainly proved their strengths as well," she mentioned on.
"These Plus Ultra moments are so stimulating!" the Somnambulist Quirk user exclaimed with a shiver of delight. After a few moments, the whole Class A team was jailed in the fake cell. Hearing Fumikage hack, seeing Yuga look depressed, and knowing Momo was unconscious, Weisz lowered his head with frustration, looking at the watch in which his armor was stored. He was going to learn better from this event and move forward, no matter what.
"And Class B scores an impressive four-to-nothing victory! What a show!" Sekijiro exclaimed into the microphone, "I'm so proud of you kids!" he yelled on.
"Your brats just got damn lucky is all!" Sister shouted over the loudspeakers, exchanging a glare with him as they growled.
"Please, just stop it already!" Mina insisted with her picket sign raised.
"Yeah, stop!" others of both classes pleaded in protest.
"So, the third match is upon us…" Homura noted, glancing over at the Class B team of Sen, Nirengeki, Kosei, and Kris. The latter of the group looked back at the Soul Blade Quirk user intensely. Already, the third round was looking to be quite the match…
ENDING
Insert "Footprints" by the peggies
Opens with Izuku receiving a notification on his phone. He picks it up and looks at it while seated on his bed, while Rebecca sits up beside him and yawns. He smiles, showing her what he just read. She beams after a moment, nodding to him.
The two of them head downstairs together, seeing groups of their classmates heading out together for the day. They smile at each other, holding hands as they leave the dorm. We see Shiki walking on a sidewalk with Momo, calling for her to hurry after him as he hurries off towards a set of stores. Meanwhile, Tsuyu and Ochaco meet up with Kleene and Kris at a supermarket, talking happily with them. Fumikage's checking apples with Dark Shadow, only to see Laguna doing the same.
Elsewhere in the store, we see Katsuki checking some bottles of hot sauce, while Weisz and Minoru are browsing some adult magazines. Homura's eyes sparkle at the sight the Valkyrie-brand energy drinks, which she buys a lot of to the shock of Kyoka, Mina, and Toru. Izuku and Rebecca arrive, having a shopping list on hand. They nod to each other, splitting up with their classmates to gather what they need.
Izuku grabs packets of noodles and rice, while Rebecca gets pork, bok choy, panko bread crumbs, and other ingredients. She's joined by Rikido, who advises her on what specifically she should look for. Meanwhile, Izuku goes to gather up birthday candles with Koji and Shoto, who both grab jars of frosting and sprinkles.
The couple checks out of the store with everything they need, returning to U.A. later that night. With help, they put the ingredients together to make a great feast, along with a birthday cake intended for Tenya. He's touched, tearing up at how kind his classmates are. He blows out the candles, celebrating amongst his friends as they laugh. The song winds down, with the class happily enjoying themselves through the night, hoping for many more great ones to come…

I have to admit, this was probably my least favorite match of the arc, considering how in spite of Momo and her team displaying their strengths, they ended up losing out of it. At some point, I'm hoping to give Momo an arc to really let her shine. But that'll be later down the line.
