Great Hall

The Great Hall was abuzz with the latest gossip from The Daily Prophet. Cheating wasn't an unexpected happening but to get caught doing so? Oh no no, that is not seen favourably. Worse, if you were a noble then double the shame on your family.

The nobles enjoyed a lot of power in the British Wizarding society but at the same time, the common folk tended to hold them to an absurd degree of a standard often. Cheating, abuse, strife - any kind of crack in the families was like an aphrodisiac to the gossipy common folk. This was of course made doubly worse by The Daily Prophet and its muckraking journalists.

But right now, everyone was wondering who this wizard just might be. The witch wasn't important yet. First one needs to know which family's scandal this is.

Luckily, young Sirius Black was pointedly uninterested in boring things like newspapers. Hence, he never had anything to think about much. He was still busy getting attention and cheering from fellow Gryffindor and best friend James Potter. Though it will take him longer to recover from the vitriolic and venomous letter his mother had sent after the news of his sorting.

Andromeda and Narcissa on the other hand exchanged subtle looks to confirm that they would be discussing this in private. It was necessary to stay on top of any gossip - especially in Slytherin. Andromeda had a moment of suspicion - after all, it was no secret in the family how much Uncle Orion hated his wife. But she knew how much Uncle Orion loved the family, to what lengths he would go for the family to flourish. Thus, she dismissed the thought.

Black Manor

Lord Arcturus Black III crooked his famous eyebrow at his newspaper. His beloved wife Lady Melania - always in tune with her husband's moods immediately looked up from her fruit salad.

She waited knowing that he would speak once he finished reading whatever had caught his eye. And sure enough -

"Some pathetic muckraker is claiming to have seen a married wizard meeting a young witch. And talking of a possible divorce" He looked up to his wife and waited. Her hatred for journalists was rather well known.

"Those infernal ink-slingers!" she sneered " Wonder whose life they are trying to ruin now?!"

"A noble wizard who already has 2 young boys " answered Arcturus.

And immediately Melania understood his worry.

"Arc, Love , you know it can't be Orion. He has always been a good boy. He agreed to marry Walburga. He insisted !" quickly assured Melania.

Arcturus sighed," And I regret ever agreeing to it". He looked out towards the expansive grounds from their balcony.

"I won't be able to blame him if he did choose to have an affair, no matter how much flak we might catch for it. " Arcturus bowed his head.

"After all, it was my idea"

Predictably enough, Walburga flew off the handle when she saw the article. About the audacity, shame and how she would loved to render the flesh from the hand of the - reporter.

Orion sighed mentally, thanking Merlin that she didn't seem to think it was him. However, he was surprised that they hadn't given any more hints as to his identity. He looked at his younger son who was nervously poking at his breakfast.

Wondering what if this was an affair, he barely held the snort in. Walburga would crucio him within an inch of his life if he dared look at another witch in her presence. Affair? Ha!

Merlin only knows what would happen to his sons and parents if he was gone. Walburga would most likely disown or kill everyone in a month.

He had to survive. He had to endure. For them.
