Thom was running to get to Moiraine, but the room kept escaping him. He was really worried, panicked really, when the scary information had been released. Gholam. A real gholam made it here into Malkier. He was running to reach Moiraine now with the Wheel seemingly against him.
A person, or something looking like a person, crossed his path a moment before he reached their door. Almost fluid, moving without any resistance. Thom reached for his knives, but the creature was faster and none met their intended target.
"Moiraine!" he shouted. "Moiraine! Get out!"
He saw the creature turn towards the door and leapt to catch its hand. Gholam focused on him again. It was better this way. At least he would give her a fighting chance. Hitting the creature made little difference, Thom found and his heart burned with desperation.
When something caught his arm and pulled, he was sure his life was over. With the last bit of strenght he pulled back his arm to dish out another hit, but something kept him immobile.
"Thom..." he could hear faint voice in the distance. "Wake up, my dearest."
This did it. Suddenly both the gholam and whole corridor disappeared. The next thing he saw was darkness and Moiraine's face over his.
"You've been having a bad dream, my dearest," she said, putting her palm on his cheek with warm care. "It's gone now."
"I was trying to get to you," Thom said, still trying to control his breathing. He knew they would need to talk about it eventually, so there was no better time than present to let it rest. "There was a gholam roaming the palace."
"Then it's good that we know at least some ways to fight them." Thom looked at her, surprised. "We have a copy of the medallion that has the ability to hurt them. Some of the sisters are working on infusing other objects with similar properties for the future, just in case. There are also no mentions of other active gholam. Just so you know."
"He managed to relax with that knowledge. Moiraine cuddled back into him and he could breathe easily again. Sleep came back soon after.
