Ready for a new genesis? I'm really excited to be getting into this chapter, especially with the concert in key focus. Obviously, there's other things to be psyched about, but this is a big one for me.
Last time we left off, Izuku and Rebecca finally stopped Gentle. Now, the teachers of U.A. have him and La Brava cornered. But before we get into that, there's something else that you might've forgotten…
Welcome back to "Through the Rough"!
THROUGH THE ROUGH
"Chisaki should be on the bottom third floor, northwest corner," a voice echoed through the earpiece in Yor's right ear as she was lurking in the bushes outside of the hospital, "There're going to be at least ten guards," he mentioned.
"Any heroes?" the Saintfire follower asked.
"Not until transport to Tartarus," her colleague responded, "However, the hospital'll likely be on high alert the second they find out what's happening," he pointed out, "So you have to be fast," he added seriously.
"Of course…" Yor responded, "Normally, I do much better in the evening than now…" she admitted aloud, narrowing her eyes onto the building, "But this will have to do…" she confirmed, gripping her thorn-like weapons tightly. Inside the hospital, the armed guards stood through the hall leading to a single door. On the other side was a room where Kai lied upon a bed, his ankles restrained to the frame with cuffs.
His eyes were cold and almost lifeless. Everything he worked so hard to build in order to bring the yakuza back to power… was all gone. And now, he wouldn't even be able to face the man who took him in.
"Two more hours until the transport, right?" one officer outside the room inquired of his colleagues.
"I hear we're getting Ryukyu and Fat Gum as support," another chimed in, "After last time though, we could a few more heroes…" he mentioned. At that moment, the lights flickered. Everyone in the hall perked up.
"This is Yoshida," one of them communicated into the receiver hooked to his shoulder, "What's happening up top?" he asked. Up on the ground floor, everything seemed to going normally as expected. However, one nurse turned a corner and gasped, finding two unconscious officers lying beside the elevator. The lights then went out on the bottom third floor.
"What the hell?!" one man yelped.
"Everyone, lights on!" their captain advised immediately, activating the flashlight upon his assault rifle along with his subordinates.
"Still no word from upstairs!" another officer confirmed.
"Wait…" one more uttered, getting their attentions, "The elevator's coming…" he pointed out, seeing icon blink for 'B2'.
"So it wasn't a total blackout…" another officer realized.
"Captain Yoshida…" one more tried to say.
"Yeah, I know…" the captain confirmed, narrowing his eyes.
'Whoever this may be, they want Chisaki…' he concluded through his thoughts. The elevator finally arrived at the bottom third floor. The officers readied their rifles, breathing nervously for what they would have to face. Slowly, the doors opened… and no one was there.
"The hell…?" one officer uttered, slowly heading inside the lift with one of his colleagues.
"Why would the elevator come all the way down here?" the other one asked.
"Maybe someone pressed the wrong button before coming down?" another assumed.
"Don't lower your guards, boys," their captain insisted, "Let's make sure that elevator's empty," he advised of them.
"Right," one responded, "Let's check up and see—" The moment he looked up, he widened his eyes and gasped. Braced up at the ceiling was Yor. She came down, slashing the two officers in the elevator with her. Though their cuts weren't deep, they collapsed onto the floor instantly.
"Ichi! Aoi!" one officer cried out.
"Take her down, men!" the captain insisted. Yor didn't even hesitate to rush forward, she pivoted around the bullets fired her way, slashing two more of the officers with her weapons to make them fall over. She leapt up, flinging one of her blades out to pierce into another foe's shoulder. He tried to pull it out, but suddenly plopped onto the ground himself.
"What...?!" he gasped out, "My body…!" he yelped, only to get kneed by the Saintfire follower, who reclaimed her weapon as blood dripped from it. She easily did away with the other officers, closing in on her intended target. The chief was the only one left standing, firing wildly as he yelled.
Yor leapt up at him, piercing her blades into his shoulders and pinning him against the wall. He yelped in pain, gritting his teeth. He tried to raise his arms, but to no avail.
"What… did you do to us?!" he questioned angrily.
"I haven't killed any of you," the Saintfire follower assured to his surprise, pulling her weapons out, "These are laced with a paralyzing agent that should wear off in about a half-hour or so," she explained to him, "If I wanted to kill you, I could've simply used my Quirk," she pointed out, walking to the door.
"W…Wait…!" the chief grunted out. Yor paid him no mind, opening the door and heading into the room. Kai glanced over the moment he heard the door close.
"Are you with the League…?" he inquired of the dark-haired woman, who slowly approached his bed.
"You look so pitiful like this…" she pointed out, "If I weren't aware of your crimes, I'd feel sorry for you…" she mentioned, using a small towel to wipe the blood off of her weapons. The Overhaul Quirk user blinked.
"Then… you must be with Nox…" he realized, getting Yor's attention, "Is this… revenge?" he inquired, "For what I did to her followers?" he questioned on. The dark-haired woman shook her head.
"This is for another matter entirely," she confirmed, approaching the bed and placing her right hand upon Kai's chest, "That little girl, Eri," she continued, making the Overhaul Quirk user blink in surprise, "she wasn't just your former's boss granddaughter…" she noted, causing him to widen his eyes, "She is our Saintfire's daughter," she stated firmly. The Shie Hassaikai leader's eyes were shaking.
"Then… that means—"
"Your fate is sealed," Yor finished for him, pressing her palm firmly against his chest, "Kai Chisaki," she said. Only a gasp of breath left the Overhaul Quirk user's lips. His heart monitor let out a long beep as the line upon the screen went flat. The dark-haired woman stood up, staring down at the now dead man.
Yor Forger. Quirk: Assassin.
By merely placing her hand on a person's chest and uttering their name, she can render them lifeless in an instant. If she's to attempt this on any other part of the human body, she could cause grievous injuries. It's a dangerous Quirk, especially in the wrong hands.
"In Saintfire Nox's name, I hope you may come back to a time without such strife… and without Quirks…" she said, bowing her head.
OPENING
Insert "Fleeting Lullaby" by Ado
A spotlight shines upon a stage, where Kyoka, Rebecca, Momo and Homura are. Kyoka wields her bass, Rebecca's sitting at the drums, Momo readies her hands to play the keyboard, and Homura grips her electric guitar tightly. As Kyoka starts signing, more lights flash on, revealing the rest of Class 1-A as they're about to perform.
We cut to Shoto and Katsuki struggling with the provisional license course as Homura watches on alongside All Might and Endeavor. She glances toward the Flame Hero curiously, while a memory of Valkyrie crosses her mind. In the meantime, we get images of Madame Kurenai with her cronies, Garrot, Baku, and Nino; the latter of which appearing reluctant. There's also a shot of the current Shining Star Heroes, who're standing in front of the safe door found at the Hassaikai headquarters.
There's another scene of the League of Villains lurking in the shadows, with Dabi taking note of a particular news broadcast on a TV. Elsewhere, Shura finds himself being confronted by the Oceans 6. He sneers as he readies his Quirk, but is suddenly stopped when Nero appears behind him and slams his head into the ground. He goes through a flashback of his own where as a young boy, he was crying in the corner.
Next up, we see Izuku and Rebecca hopping around in pursuit of Gentle Criminal and La Brava as they bounce about on the way to U.A. Already there is Eri, who's with Mirio and the others who were a part of the raid mission. They and the rest of Class 1-A are about to perform as they head off to the stage inside Gym Gamma.
We go through several scenes of the class in separate groups, with Katsuki and Eijiro arguing over the special effects as the others sigh, Mina practicing the dancing with the class, especially Shiki as Ochaco watches on with a blank jealous stare, and Kyoka, Momo and Homura tuning their respective instruments. The Earphone Jack Quirk user worriedly looks at the clock, hoping that Izuku and Rebecca can make it in time.
As the opening winds down, we see shots of Deadend Crow, God Acnoella, Poseidon Nero, Saintfire Nox, Elsie Crimson, and finally, Tomura Shigaraki. We also get to see the lineup of the top ten pro heroes of Japan: Eraser, Kamui Woods, Crust, Holy, Mirko, Justice, Edgeshot, Hawks, and Endeavor. As the ceremony goes on, an ominous figure watches on curiously.
The song concludes with Izuku and Rebecca holding hands as they run ahead with smiles on their faces, heading for what they hope is a bright future.
END OPENING
"Hey, over here!" Rebecca called out, getting the attentions of Hound Dog and Ectoplasm's clones.
"Miss Bluegarden!" the Clones Quirk user exclaimed as he and resident life head hurried over to the ash blonde-haired girl, "Are you alright?" he asked, noticing her scrapes.
"I'm okay," she assured, "Anyways, come on!" she beckoned quickly, jogging back toward the clearing she had come from, "Izu's back there!" she pointed out, enticing the teachers to follow her. They arrived at the clearing, only to find Gentle there with La Brava in his arms.
"UA…" he uttered out, "I'm turning myself in…" he confirmed, "So please, pardon Manami Aiba for her crimes…" he begged of them. The Love Quirk user in his arms cried with dismay. Rebecca didn't even have the heart to yell at them. She understood where they were coming from, wanting to support each other with their dreams. It was exactly like her and her boyfriend. Hound Dog sniffed and growled.
"Where's our student?!" he questioned, angrily approaching the Elasticity Quirk user, "I can smell his blood!" he pointed out.
"I'm sorry… but this is a big misunderstanding…" the villain tried to explain, "We took a tumble down the road and wound up here…" he told the group, "I had no intention of bringing harm to anyone…" he mentioned. Meanwhile, Izuku was hurrying back over into the clearing. He knew that Gentle was on the ropes, especially considering he probably used the last bit of strength he had to knock him away over the trees. And with all the commotion, it should've gotten the attentions of the teachers if Rebecca hadn't met up with them already.
'Either way, I can't just sit around!' he affirmed inwardly. He arrived at the clearing, finding the teachers there, surrounding the villain and his accomplice, with Rebecca standing nearby.
"Izu!" she exclaimed upon spotting him. He breathed somewhat heavily with exhaustion.
"Glad to see you're alright somewhat, Midoriya," Ectoplasm chimed in.
"I knew I smelled your blood…" Hound Dog added, glaring down at Gentle, "Did you all fight?" he inquired of them. Izuku looked at Gentle, seeing him comfort the crying La Brava in his arms. For an instant, he saw himself and his girlfriend. It was scary to think about, but it was true. He could've become exactly like the Elasticity Quirk user if he pursued his dreams without the use of a Quirk.
"We found out he was going to be pulling a prank of sorts on UA…" he started to answer, much to Rebecca's surprise as her eyes slightly widened, "so we got into a little tussle," he confirmed.
"AAAAAAAHHHH!" Manami wailed into her partner's chest.
"Is that true?" Hound Dog asked of the Cat Leaper Quirk user, getting her attention.
"Y-Yeah…" she stuttered in reply, "Even if it was just a prank, we knew the school was gonna be on high alert, so…" she continued, only for the dog-like hero to nod in understanding.
"Hound Dog, Snipe here," Snipe communicated into the resident life head's earpiece, making him perk up, "Any problems out there?" he inquired in concern, "I noticed you took a few of Ectoplasm's clones with ya…" he noted on.
"Yeah, but it's nothing to worry about," Hound Dog responded, putting his right hand up to his ear, "Just some idiots trying to pull a prank," he told his colleague.
"I'm sorry… what?" Snipe questioned.
"I'm just as confused as you," Hound Dog admitted in reply, "But from what I can tell, this isn't serious," he confirmed, "No need to send out an alert," he advised.
"Copy that," Snipe replied before the communication ended.
"I'm certain there's more to this situation," Ectoplasm said as he approached the downed pair of Gentle and La Brava, "but for now, we'll be taking you both into custody," he confirmed. The short woman wept with dismay, while Izuku and Rebecca watched on sadly. A few of the Clones Quirk user's duplicates took them away with Hound Dog.
"Izuku Midoriya. Rebecca Bluegarden," Gentle said, getting the couple's attention, "I too once tried to take on the course of becoming a hero," he pointed out, "yet I failed due to my arrogance, despite my strong feelings," he added, lowering his head a little, "I do hope the feelings you've shown me today reach that little girl," he told them, "And I hope those feelings help carry you to become fine heroes," he mentioned.
"Gentle…" the One For All inheritor uttered.
"Seems there was a bit more to your scuffle than meets the eye," Ectoplasm pointed out, causing him to perk up, "Your class performance is going to be in about forty minutes," he mentioned to him and Rebecca.
"Whoa, forty?!" the latter of the two yelped in shock, "Oh shoot, we gotta get back!" she insisted immediately.
"Wait, we need to get our stuff first!" her boyfriend pointed out.
"Your stuff?" Ectoplasm repeated in confusion.
"We were just getting some things down at the hardware store and left them there when this whole thing started…" Izuku explained.
"And my phone, too," Rebecca remembered.
"In that case, I'll escort you," the Clones Quirk user decided. Within the next twenty minutes, the couple made their way back to the streets, where the nearby tea shop owner had held onto their items for them. After thanking him, they headed back to UA.
"What the heck is taking Midoriya and Bluegarden so long to buy rope?!" Hanta inquired in frustration from the locker rooms at Gym Gamma.
"I can think of a few things…" Minoru remarked, earning himself a bonk to the head from Toru.
"I doubt it's something sketchy, but still…" she mumbled.
"I'm sure Deku knows he's pressed for time," Ochaco pointed out.
"Yeah, maybe he just got stuck somewhere," Shiki suggested.
"Well, he better hurry up…" Weisz grumbled out, "We've only got a half-hour until curtains are up," he noted.
"Bluegarden still isn't back yet?" Momo inquired, having returned with Homura as both of them were dressed in outfits similar to those of their female classmates, only theirs were a shade of lavender.
"Neither is Deku…" Ochaco confirmed in reply.
"They'll get here for sure!" Shiki affirmed confidently with his fists clenched, "I know they wanna make this performance the best it can be for Eri's sake, so there's no way they'd go and blow us off!" he mentioned thoroughly.
"Good point…" Rikido concurred with his arms crossed, "Maybe something happened during their errand…" he suggested. Meanwhile, Izuku and Rebecca had just arrived at the front gates of U.A., where Yuga was standing.
"Aoyama!" the One For All inheritor called out, getting his attention.
"Midoriya! Bluegarden!" he exclaimed, "Where have you two been?" he asked, only to widen his eyes slightly, "Sacré bleu, you both look a mess!" he pointed out.
"Uh, we both fell down on the way back!" Rebecca quickly told him.
"Well, we better get going!" Yuga insisted, "You two should clean yourselves up and get dressed as quickly as possible!" he advised, handing Izuku his outfit for the performance. The freckled teen let out a sigh of relief. He then looked over to his girlfriend.
"Do your best out there," he remarked to her, making her blink in surprise. But she smiled.
"You too," she responded. They split up in different directions, hurriedly yet carefully getting themselves ready for the performance with so little time to spare. There were two minutes until the show.
"I am starting to get nervous…" Homura admitted as she held her guitar, which was now a deep shade of crimson.
"As am I…" Momo confessed additionally, taking a deep breath, "But there's no use in worrying over something that's yet to happen," she insisted.
"She's right," a familiar voice agreed, getting their attentions as they turned to see Rebecca there with her drumsticks in hand, dressed in her outfit like theirs with her hair tied in pigtails.
"Bluegarden!" both of her bandmates exclaimed.
"What a relief…" Homura said, putting her right hand over her heart, "I was beginning to worry that something had happened to you…" she noted.
"Yeah, things came up during our errand this morning…" the Cat Leaper Quirk user confirmed, "I'm sure I can fill you in on the details after the performance," she promised.
"Details?" Momo repeated, arching an eyebrow.
"Oh, Rebecca! You made it!" Kyoka's voice exclaimed, getting her attention as she turned to see the Earphone Jack Quirk user.
"Kyoka!" she yelled out, only to blink in surprise, "Whoa, you look awesome!" she complimented upon seeing the lead singer's appearance. She blushed a little.
"I just… hope it's not too flashy…" she pointed out nervously.
"As long as you're comfortable with it, it should be fine," Momo assured.
"What about Midoriya?" Homura asked, getting everyone's attention, "Is he back?" she inquired in concern. Backstage, the dressed One For All inheritor burst in through the doors.
"Everyone, I'm so sorry!" he apologized to his classmates.
"Deku, you made it!" Ochaco exclaimed.
"You're cutting it quite close there, Mister House Arrest…" Tenya remarked.
"I-I have a reason for that!" Izuku stammered in claim, "But… it can wait until after the show," he affirmed, clenching his fists determinedly, "I'm ready to make this the best performance possible," he stated with a confident visage, much to everyone's surprise.
"That's the spirit, Izuku!" Shiki exclaimed, "Everyone, let's go beyond!" he insisted, pumping his right fist up.
"Yeah! Plus Ultra!" the dance team members all yelled in agreement. The clock struck ten, and the lights in the gym went out. The entire crowd seemed to be murmuring with excitement, save for a few in particular. Students from general studies were determined to make sure the concert wasn't well-received, even if it did turn out to be a good performance.
Cheers were raining out as the curtains were drawn. Standing center stage under the spotlight was Kyoka. She had on a short black dress ending at her upper thighs, possessing a frilly neckline and a violet ribbon and buttons down the middle, while wearing fishnet stocking over her legs and low-heeled black boots. She was also wearing a violet varsity jacket with a label on the back reading 'EARPHONE JACK' in cursive. Her violet headphones over her ears had the initials 'EJ' upon each side, and she had a violet choker around her neck. She looked back to her bandmates, who were in position.
"Can you two see okay?" Mirio asked, holding Eri up in his arms, while Pino was atop his head.
"Yeah…" the little girl responded. Her eyes widened a little upon spotting Rebecca, who was smiling brightly as she held up her drumsticks. And then she saw Izuku, who had a smile of his own, even as sweat ran down his face.
"There they are!" the little android exclaimed, "Eri, are you excited?" she asked of the horned girl. Unconsciously, she felt her mouth curve up a little bit.
X
Rebecca knew this wasn't going to be easy. Trying to reach Eri was priority one with this concert. But another thing that was just as important was to have fun and go all-out. There were people in the crowd only there to root against Class A no matter what kind of performance they gave. Taking a deep breath at her drum set, the Cat Leaper Quirk user clicked her drumsticks together.
"Let's give it our all!" she called out.
"Okay team, get ready to show 'em what we got!" Weisz insisted of his teammates up on the rafters.
"We're gonna dance our hearts out!" Mina proclaimed. With a powerful bang of the drums, the concert began. The dance team grooved in sync to the beat, while the lights above shined down upon them.
"Thanks for coming out today, everybody!" Kyoka called out through the microphone.
What am I to be~?
What is my calling~?
I gave up giving up, I'm ready to go~…!
The future's left unseen~…
It all depends on me~…
Put it on the line to follow my dream~…!
Yeah~!
Tried all my life~… I've tried to find~…
Something that makes me hold on and never let go~…!
Oh~!
Hero too, I am a hero too~…!
My heart is set (my heart is set) and I won't back down~!
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero~…
True heroes (true heroes) stand up for what they believe~…!
So wait and see~…
Homura shredded her guitar strings as best she could, keeping up with the rhythm of her bandmates. All the while, the dancers were completely in sync, capping things off with Izuku tossing Yuga into the air, allowing him to fire off a flurry of laser beams as if they were fireworks. Afterwards, the One For All inheritor ran off stage left, not before shooting a thumbs up to his classmates and those in the audience.
"Whoa, fast exit," Mirio remarked.
"Where'd he go?" Eri asked in concern.
"Don't worry, I'm sure he'll show up again!" the Quirkless teen reassured.
"And Miss Becca's still onstage!" Pino pointed out. The little girl looked over to the drumming Cat Leaper Quirk user, whose smile was bigger than ever as she jammed out with her classmates.
So wait and see~…
What do they think of me~…?
Who do they think I'll be~…?
I could not care less, I don't wanna know~…!
Am I doing right~?
Am I satisfied~?
I wanna live my life like it's meant to be~…!
Yeah~!
Between Tenya's robotic dancing, Minoru getting his harem in the performance, and the effects raining about, everyone looked to be having a lot of fun. Backstage, Izuku took a tight grip on the rope that was going to be used.
"You ready, Midoriya?" Eijiro asked of him.
"Yeah," he responded.
Tried all my life~… I've tried to find~…!
Something that makes me hold on and never let go~…!
Oh~!
With a drum roll from Rebecca, a plethora of effects rained down onto the stage, between streamers fired from Momo's arms, Katsuki's explosions, Shoto's ice, Hanta's tape, and the flock of birds sent out by Koji. It was such a spectacle. And even the students that were there for the sole purpose of critiquing Class A couldn't help but join in on the fun.
Hero too, I am a hero too~!
My heart is set (my heart is set) and I won't back down~!
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero~…!
True heroes (true heroes) stand up for what they believe~!
So wait and see~…
There was a moment where Kyoka looked back at Rebecca. She was reminded of the time she told her parents that she was going to pursue the track of being a hero instead of music. Part of her thought it was a decision they'd hate her over, but they accepted it.
People will judge for no reason at all~…
Yeah they might try~…
To say your dream's dumb, don't listen~…
They may look down on me and count me out~…
If being a hero was what she wanted, then that was more than enough. Wanting to make people was something both music and being a hero could do. The Earphone Jack Quirk user smiled as she watched Rebecca drum her heart out.
'I wonder if this is how you felt, Midoriya…' she said inwardly, 'Did she make you fall in love the same as me?' she wondered, 'Well…' she continued through her thoughts, 'I have to return the favor,' she insisted of herself.
I'm going my own way~…
They may look down on me and count me out~…
I'm a hero, I've got music~…
Hero too, I am a hero too~…
My heart is set and I won't back down~…!
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero~…!
True heroes stand up for what they believe~…!
Yeah, I'll be~!
Hero too, I am a hero too~!
My heart is set and I won't back down~…!
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero~…!
True heroes stand up for what they believe~…!
So wait and see~…
I have met so many heroes in my life~…!
Gave me the strength and courage to survive~…!
Gave me the power to smile everyday~…!
Now it's my turn to be the one to make you smile~…!
In the midst of it all, the dark aura around Eri was finally fading away. And she was smiling. Looking at her, Mirio teared up and smiled as well.
'Are you seeing this?! Midoriya? Bluegarden? Sir?' he wondered inwardly. The song finally wound down as the dancers were grooving up above on the ice, with all of their efforts put to the best use possible.
"What a magnificent performance," Witch remarked from the back of the gym alongside Shota, Hizashi, Sister, and Hermit.
"Kids really put their all into it," the Heal Atomizer Quirk user pointed out.
"And that's just one song!" Hizashi mentioned excitedly, "Let's see what kinda banger they got up next!" he echoed out. Shota just cracked a small grin.
"Yayyyy!" Eri yelled from afar amidst the crowd, only to stop and notice Pino and Mirio tearing up, "Are you okay?" she asked in concern.
"Yes… we are fine…" the little android assured.
"We're just really happy!" the Quirkless teen pointed out with a chuckle. The horned girl was smiling so brightly. Up on stage, Kyoka took a step back, removing her headphones from her ears.
"Huh…" she exhaled, wiping some sweat off of her cheek, "Hey," she called out to her bandmates, getting their attentions, "You guys ready to keep this going?" she inquired of them.
"Of course, Jiro!" Momo responded immediately.
"We'll play to the best of our ability like we practiced," Homura affirmed as she gripped her guitar.
"Yeah, let's keep this Plus Ultra spirit going!" Rebecca insisted excitedly, raising up her drumsticks. Kyoka smiled, giving off a silent chuckle. She then turned to the audience.
"You all ready for more?!" she questioned of those in the crowd through the microphone.
"YEAH!" most of the students cheered excitedly. And with that, the concert continued…
X
"It's been a fair while since we've gotten together like this," Holy noted, gathered in the conference hall of the I.U.A. as Justice, Eraser, Feather and Cure were present, "For starters, I'd like to know where the hell you've been…" she remarked coldly toward the latter hero in the room.
"I've been conducting investigations into Poseidon Nero, of course," he answered with his arms folded over his chest, "You can't expect me to be everywhere at once," he pointed out, much to the dual-type Quirk user's chagrin as she glared at him.
"That's enough, Seinaru," Eraser chimed in, "I'm sure Cure was caught up in something else at the time…" he noted. Feather said nothing, only shooting a mere glance toward her green-haired colleague.
"In any case, this Prayer Council has two purposes," Justice declared, "The first is to evaluate our current findings on the remaining members of the Oracion Seis aside from Tomura Shigaraki," he told his colleagues, "And the second… is to officially induct Jaguar's replacement into our ranks," he mentioned. Holy tensed up a little.
"James…" she said, getting his attention, "don't you think we should reconsider calling in a replacement?" she inquired of him, "It's not just about morality…" she added, "Taichi was a strong figure in hero society," she pointed out, "Like All Might, it's difficult to find someone so suitable to take his place," she explained.
"…I agree," the Interstellar Hero responded to her surprise, "However, she insisted on this," he noted.
"She?" the dual-type Quirk user repeated. At that moment, the sliding doors opened, enticing everyone to look over. Most widened their eyes to see none other than Mirko entering the room.
"Well, what a surprise…" Eraser uttered out.
"Mirko…" Holy said. Cure narrowed his eyes, while Feather said nothing.
"Apparently, Mirko heard about how we were looking for a replacement for Jaguar," Justice told his colleagues, "She reached out to me and asked about coming aboard rather than us diving into our ranks for someone to promote," he explained on.
"Hold on a second…" Holy chimed in, "Isn't this a bit sudden?" she inquired of the Interstellar Hero, "I know Mirko was close to Taichi, but—"
"Like he said, I wanted this," the Rabbit Quirk user confirmed, interjecting her as she blinked in surprise, "But that doesn't mean I'm gonna be a chump and follow your every order," she mentioned, walking up to Justice, "I'm still doing my own thing," she affirmed, narrowing her eyes, "And I'll help you guys out when you need it," she added.
"Understood," the Interstellar Hero responded, "Now then, I believe we need to get into the ordeals with the Oracion Seis…" he decided, "We can start with Acnoella and her relationship to Ryukyu…" he confirmed, turning his attention to Feather.
"Yes, of course…" she responded as a holographic screen appeared nearby with various street images of the Shie Hassaikai's headquarters during the raid attack. While she explained everything that occurred during the incident, Holy looked at Mirko worriedly. There wasn't really a fire in her eyes or even a confident smirk like she usually gave off.
'Death really does change people…' the dual-type Quirk user noted inwardly, clenching her fists. Back at U.A., Rebecca finished a powerful drum solo to close out yet another song of the concert. Twenty minutes had gone by, with four songs finished. Yet the crowd looked ready for more with how loudly they were cheering.
"Man, I feel like this could go on forever!" Eijiro noted from the rafters excitedly.
"Well, we wanna save enough time for cleanup…" Weisz pointed out in response, "Hey, let's make sure we can break down as much of the ice as possible so that it's easier to clean up when the show ends!" he advised of his classmates.
"Got it," Shoto replied, while Hanta and Koji nodded.
"Tch," Katsuki scoffed, looking down to the stage and seeing Rebecca smiling brightly. A couple times during the concert, she had managed to spot Eri being held up thanks to Mirio. And the smile on her face was infectious.
'This might be our last song… but we'll keep up the energy!' she declared inwardly. Looking back at her, Kyoka could see her determination. She wanted to make this final song count. Surprisingly, she put down her bass guitar, removing the microphone from the stand before stepping forward.
"Thanks so much for coming today, everyone!" she called out gratefully to the crowd, "This is our last song, but we'll make it worth it!" she promised, raising her right pointer finger up to the air, "You guys ready?!" she yelled in question.
"YEAH!" the crowd cheered.
"Give us a good finale, first-years!" one person cried out.
"Go for it!" another shouted. Taking a deep breath, Kyoka closed her eyes as the lights dimmed around her and her bandmates.
We can choose the way of our future~…
Try a brand new path~… if I change the world~…
If I change the world~…!
Drumming up a beat, Rebecca kept the excited smile upon her face. Homura riffed her guitar, signaling for the dance team to make their way make onto the stage. Kyoka looked over to Mina, who nodded to her as they started grooving about. She started to dance around herself, holding the microphone up to her lips.
Say goodbye to everyone who stands against us~…
No one has the power to stop a change that come through music~…
No, you can't stop magic~…
As the song continued, Ochaco and Shiki floated up, with the latter flying over to grab the former by her left hand as they flew about the gym. The Zero Gravity Quirk user reached out to some members of the crowd, allowing them to float up upon contact for an even better view.

Katsuki fired off sparks from his sweaty palms, combining with the electricity Denki released, along with Shoto's flames. Everyone marveled the beautiful spectacle, even those in the crowd who were there to criticize the event. And Kyoka was going to make it even better.

Throwing off her jacket, the Earphone Jack Quirk user danced alongside her classmates as she sung. Her bandmates continued playing their respective instruments, enhancing the performance all the while. From afar, all of the teachers were smiling.

As Izuku danced alongside the others in the crowd, he managed to spot Eri in the crowd. She was waving her arms excitedly in Mirio's grasp, smiling so brightly. Tears were pricking the One For All inheritor's eyes. The concert was a success.

"Who knew Jiro had some killer pipes?" Sister remarked from the back of the room, folding her arms behind her head.
"Her voice is beautiful," Witch agreed in response.
"This brings back a lot of memories," Hermit admitted as she smiled, "Giving people the chance to have a good time after all of the tough things they've gone through…" she continued as she looked out towards the crowd, seeing them cheer with vigor.
You wanna play a real game, unfurl the chain~

With effects raining down, Kyoka sung her heart out. All of her worries and doubts were gone. Everything that seemed daunting to her at first about the concert had completely faded from her mind. Because right now, she was happy. And it made her even happier to see the crowd so excited, too.
We can choose the way of our future~!
Try a brand new path, if I change the world~…!
If I change the world~!

A new genesis~!
With the last section of the song winding down, Homura, Momo and Rebecca closed out their playing on the instruments. Kyoka smiled, grateful for their help. She took a deep breath.
A new genesis~!
The crowd in the gym cheered ecstatically, more so than they did for any of the songs before. As she hooked the microphone back onto the stand, Kyoka wiped the sweat off of her cheek and chuckled a little.
"Thanks again for coming, everyone!" she yelled gratefully, "Enjoy the rest of the festival!" she insisted as the lights flashed on. Quickly, members of Class 1-A went ahead to clean up the stage, removing the equipment and gathering any streamers and confetti left behind. Ochaco and Shiki made sure that anyone who was in midair was safely brought down.
"Put any ice in the dumpster before melting it, alright?" Weisz advised of his colleagues.
"Tch," Katsuki scoffed as he trudged off, "Yeah, yeah…" he grumbled out repeatedly. Setting her drumsticks back down onto her drum set, Rebecca sighed with relief. She turned around and hopped off stage, making her way through the crowd before spotting Mirio with Eri and Pino.
"Rebecca," Witch's voice chimed in, getting the Cat Leaper Quirk user's attention as she turned to spot the Shining Star Hero there alongside Hound Dog and Ectoplasm, along with All Might, "I understand you want to convene with Eri, but we need you and Izuku to come with us for a discussion," she told her, making her blink in surprise, "It's about your conduct this morning," she mentioned.
"Oh…" Rebecca uttered in realization.

Class B's play was a mess of a performance. As serious as it was, there were so many elements involved, no one could really follow the plot at all. However, it didn't stop the students from playing their hearts out, especially Kris. He had taken the role of a rogue set to protect the princess at all costs.
The princess, played by Setsuna, was captured by the villains of the story. After joining forces with Neito's group, the Wind Rage Quirk user helped them to rescue those who had been captured. As he picked up the Lizard Tail Splitter Quirk user, she decided to cheekily thank him with a kiss to his cheek, making him blush a bright red.
"It's good to see that Rutherford's having fun up there," Momo noted, standing alongside Shiki and Ochaco as they watched the play go on.
"Yeah!" the Satan Gravity Quirk user agreed. After cleaning up the gym for Class B's performance, most of Class A was able to stay behind to witness the play. However, Izuku and Rebecca weren't so lucky.
"Being late isn't a crime, but you two should at least answer your phones…" All Might pointed out in a reprimanding tone.
"I'm sorry…" his successor apologized, "I was in such a rush that I… forgot about it…" he confessed ashamedly.
"And I wound up dropping mine…" his girlfriend mentioned, grimacing at the amount of missed calls she received on her device.
"I have a pretty good idea as to what happened based on Ecto's report," the former pro noted, with Hound Dog and Ectoplasm standing off to the side. The former of the two stomped over.
"Don't think that you made the right call!" he growled to the couple, causing them to flinch in surprise, "Things didn't get too grizzly, so the festival's still going on," he pointed out, "but that could've been real bad!" he yelled, "You're UA students with provisional hero licenses!" he mentioned on, "You should've relied on us to handle him! Us teachers wanna protect the school just as much as you!" he noted emphatically.
"Down, boy," Sister remarked as she approached alongside her fellow Shining Star Heroes.
"Given the details, I'd say both Izuku and Rebecca made the decision based on what they knew about how things would turn out if there was a disturbance," Hermit explained, "That doesn't make it right, but…" she continued, folding her arms over her chest, "what you two did kept this festival going," she noted with a smile.
"Miss Hermit…" Izuku uttered.
"Huh…" Hound Dog sighed, "Put a smile on your faces and enjoy the festival, you brats," he insisted of the couple.
"Y-Yes, sir!" Rebecca stammered out, "Come on, Izu!" she beckoned, enticing her boyfriend to hurry after her.
"Geez…" All Might groaned, rubbing the back of his head, "I understand their desires to protect the festival," he pointed out, "But did they really have to put matters into their own hands?" he wondered on.
"I could ask the same of you, All Might," Witch remarked, causing him to flinch, "In spite of their decisions, they saved what could've gone down as a somber day at UA," she noted as she removed her helmet, "As such, I think we can be happy with that," she affirmed. The former pro gave off a small grin.
"Hound Dog, I appreciate the hel—"
"ALL MIGHT!" the Hound Hero growled out, grabbing the disheveled man by his shoulders and shaking him frantically.
"Oh boy…" Sister muttered out.
"Ryo really doesn't hold back when he gets angry, huh?" Hermit noted, giggling a little. Smiling, Witch looked out toward where Izuku and Rebecca had hurried off to. She had her worries. But for today, she'd push them aside.
"Aw, we missed the play…" the Cat Leaper Quirk user realized, seeing everyone leaving the gym once she and her boyfriend arrived.
"It was pretty tough to follow, honestly…" a familiar voice chimed in, getting their attentions as they spotted Momo trotting off with Shiki and Ochaco in tow.
"Hey guys," Izuku greeted.
"Did you happen to see Eri, Mirio, or Pino in there?" Rebecca inquired of her classmates.
"Right here!" the Quirkless teen called out, getting their attentions as they turned to see him there with a smiling Eri beside him, along with the little android.
"That was crazy!" the little girl pointed out as she bounced up to Izuku and Rebecca, "At first, there was a scary loud noise," she began, "but then everyone was jumping with the dance, and then there was a flash, and Deku, you went away for a bit," she continued quickly, waving her arms around as Mirio mimicked her, "And a guy started flying in the air!" she mentioned happily, "That's when it started to get cold, and I saw birds flying around," she kept going, all while the couple before her nodded and smiled, "And the guy was spinning around with a bunch of lights and everyone said 'wow'!" she added, "So I said it, too!" she finished, only to blink in surprise upon noticing Izuku and Rebecca tearing up. They quickly wiped their eyes, freeing them of tears.
"We're really glad you had such a great time…" the Cat Leaper Quirk user affirmed, causing the horned girl to smile. Nearby, Shiki, Ochaco and Momo smiled as well. Just then, they couldn't help but overhear a commotion from afar.
"What's going on over there?" the Zero Gravity Quirk user asked curiously. There was a crowd of students surrounding a rather embarrassed Kyoka, holding out pens and paper to her.
"Please, can we get your autograph?!" one boy pleaded.
"Wh-What?!" the Earphone Jack Quirk user stammered out, "Come on, I'm not that worthy of giving out autographs…" she claimed sheepishly, "Besides, it was just one show…" she mentioned.
"Oh come on, please?" one girl insisted to her with puppy-dog eyes.
"We really loved your show!" another girl added.
"Uh…" Kyoka uttered, unsure as to what to do.
"Haha!" Shiki laughed, "Looks like Kyoka found herself a lot of fans!" he pointed out.
"I'm not surprised," Momo chimed in, "She really gave it her all out there," she noted with a smile.
"Still, it kinda looks like she needs some help…" Ochaco said. At that moment, Rebecca blinked in realization. She then hurried over, making her way through the crowd to grab the Earphone Jack Quirk user by her left arm.
"R-Rebecca?" she stammered out.
"Sorry, everyone!" she apologized, hurrying off with her friend in tow as she yelped.
"Hey, wait!" one boy called out. The Cat Leaper Quirk user returned to the group with Kyoka, coming to a halt. Eri's eyes sparkled at the sight of the lead singer of the performance earlier.
"You never got to meet Eri due to all the practice and stuff, right?" Rebecca presumed of her friend, who blinked in surprise.
"Oh, yeah," she replied, crouching down to the little girl's height, "Hey there, Eri," she greeted, "My name's Kyoka," she introduced, "I hope you liked our show," she said, giving off a little smile.
"Mm-hmm!" the horned girl responded with a nod, "It was amazing!" she complimented, "And you looked so pretty up there!" she mentioned.
"P-Pretty?" the Earphone Jack Quirk user stuttered out, blushing a little in embarrassment, "Well, thanks!" she said gratefully, while those around her chuckled, "Hey…" she continued, "do you want an autograph?" she offered. From there, the festival went on without much of a hitch. Between Nejire winning the beauty pageant to the class splitting up and participating in all sorts of activities, everyone was having a good time.
Izuku, Rebecca, Mirio, Pino and Eri especially enjoyed themselves. The little girl's smile coming to life made the most of what was such a fun day. Kyoka watched on from afar, happy for her best friend. She knew after everything she had gone through lately, she needed this kind of reprieve.
"I still can't believe what happened…" Hound Dog grumbled, catching the Earphone Jack Quirk user's attention as she turned to see the Hound Hero alongside Snipe and Ectoplasm, on patrol.
"If it weren't for Midoriya and Bluegarden bringing those two to a stop, we would've had to call for an evac," the Clones Quirk user pointed out, causing Kyoka to widen her eyes, "Honestly, there really wasn't any need for us to be so harsh on them given the situation…" he admitted.
"Hmph…" Hound Dog scoffed out. Meanwhile, Kyoka found herself left in shock. She looked over and saw Rebecca laughing alongside the others as they partook in more of what the festival had to offer. The wind breezed by.
'Rebecca…' Kyoka uttered inwardly as a blush came across her cheeks, 'You really are amazing…' she noted to herself while smiling a little, 'Both you and Midoriya…' she added through her thoughts. Watching them play from afar were Loid and Anya, as the latter was somewhat awed.
"Papa, she's smiling!" the pink-haired girl pointed out.
"Yeah, I can see that," the Disguise Quirk user confirmed.
'The Saintfire should be happy to know that Eri feels at ease now,' he noted to himself, 'And as such, there'll be peace to spare for this nation,' he mentioned inwardly.
"Can I go say hi?" Anya requested, snapping her father out of his thoughts.
"I think we've overstayed our welcome long enough," he decided, taking her by the hand and walking off with her, "I'm sure Eri knows how happy you are for her now," he pointed out. The pink-haired girl stared back at her horned friend, seeing her smile happily.
"Yeah!" she responded, giving off a big smile of her own. As the day finally wound down, the sun was starting to set on the horizon. Izuku and Rebecca were at the front gate, with Eri, Pino, Mirio, and Shota there.
"Today was such a great day, wasn't it?" the Cat Leaper Quirk user inferred aloud.
"Yeah," her boyfriend agreed, "I hope you had a great time too, Eri," he mentioned to the little girl in front of them.
"Mm," she responded, her gaze fixated on the ground. She was somewhat somber about leaving after such a fun day. She wanted it to last forever.
"Oh, one more thing," Izuku said, crouching down in front of her, "Got a surprise for ya!" he remarked, holding out a candied apple on a stick in front of her, making her blink in surprise.
"A candy apple?!" Mirio exclaimed, "Where'd you get that?!" he inquired, "I couldn't find any anywhere…" he pointed out.
"Yeah, we didn't see if anyone was gonna be selling them," Rebecca chimed in, "so we bought ingredients when we went out this morning," she told the Quirkless teen.
"Only thing we couldn't find was food coloring," Izuku noted, "but Sato had plenty to spare for us," he mentioned, watching as Eri took a bite of the delectable treat.
"How is it, Eri?" Pino inquired curiously.
"…It's the best thing ever!" she exclaimed in response, much to the delight of the couple in front of her.
"We'll make more!" Rebecca promised.
"Yeah!" Izuku agreed, "And you'll have something to look forward to!" he mentioned excitedly. With that, Eri was driven off with everyone, leaving the couple behind. The wind breezed by as they stared off into the horizon for a moment. So much had happened throughout the day. But in the end, they managed to stave off an incident that would've ruined everything at their school.
"We should probably get some rest early after today," the Cat Leaper Quirk user advised.
"Good idea," her boyfriend concurred with a nod. Moments later, they returned to the Heights Alliance dorms, exchanging their hellos with their classmates. Izuku thanked Rikido for his help in making the candy apple, while Rebecca talked with Toru and Mina for a moment, complimenting their dancing. Kyoka, who was still dressed in her outfit, watched on somewhat anxiously. She didn't know what to say to her two classmates who apparently saved the festival.
"Hey, Izu?" the Cat Leaper Quirk user said, getting her boyfriend's attention, "Can we go upstairs for a bit?" she requested of him.
"Uh, sure," he responded. Moments later, they were walking from the elevator to the ash blonde-haired girl's room. "I just realized…" Izuku uttered, causing his girlfriend to perk up, "We didn't get a chance to talk more, did we?" he assumed.
"Oh, yeah," Rebecca answered as they stopped in front of the door, turning to face each other, "The truth is… my idea for us was just… sleeping in the same bed together sometimes…" she told her boyfriend.
"O-Oh…" Izuku stuttered.
"I mean, just for weekends and whatnot…" his girlfriend quickly corrected, fidgeting with her fingers, "You know… we've been through a lot just between that day All Might chose you and now," she pointed out, "And it's been wild…" she added, rubbing the back of her head as the freckled teen in front of her listened with a worried look, "I do keep wondering if this relationship thing we're in is really for the best…" she admitted as she looked down at the floor, "But… I don't regret anything about it," she affirmed with a smile, "I love you all the same, Izuku Midoriya," she confirmed, giving off a cute blush.
"Rebecca…" her boyfriend uttered out. He then leaned in, cupping her cheeks and closing his eyes before granting her a chaste kiss, making her let out a muffled yelp of surprise. However, her lips melted into the kiss as she moaned, wrapping her arms around the One For All inheritor as she shut her own eyes. The lip lock continued as she reached back to open her door, allowing her and Izuku to enter her room.
Their lips parted as their tongues danced together. It was embarrassing at first, but now they didn't care. They were just in love with each other. As they moved towards the bed, they fell onto its plush surface, breaking their kiss as they stared at each other for a good long minute in disbelief. And then, a determined visage came across Izuku's face. He went ahead and removed his coat and dress shirt, along with his tie. Seeing his shirtless state looming over her, Rebecca widened her eyes, remembering her vision from back at the training camp.
"I-Izu…" she stammered. He lowered himself down and kissed her again, enticing her to cup his cheeks as she moaned. This wasn't like before. It felt… right. After a few more moments, the two released themselves from each other, staring deeply into each other's eyes. And then, Izuku blinked.
"Wh…What did I just…?" he started to ask, blushing a bright red.
"Huh?" his girlfriend uttered in confusion. He was starting to realize just what sort of position he was in with her, squeaking in shock as he crawled back, allowing her to sit up.
"I-I-I'm so sorry!" he stammered out, clapping his hands together and shutting his eyes, "I don't know what came over me back there!" he proclaimed in embarrassment, "You were saying such sweet things, I…" he tried to say, bowing his head, "Please forgive me!" he begged. Rebecca blinked twice. But then, she started giggling.
"Ahahahaha!" she laughed out, much to her boyfriend's bewilderment.
"You're… laughing?" he said, arching an eyebrow.
"Oh man…" the Cat Leaper Quirk user sighed out, wiping her eyes, "I should've told you about this a while ago," she admitted to his further confusion, "Maybe then, we could've been better prepared for it," she mentioned as an inference.
"What are you… talking about?" Izuku inquired.
"It was a vision I had during training camp, after I wound up seeing you in nothing but a towel," his girlfriend answered, causing him to yelp in surprise.
"And that vision… was leading to this?!" he presumed, earning a nod in reply.
"At the time, I didn't know what was gonna happen…" Rebecca pointed out, "so I just tried to play it off like it was nothing," she told her boyfriend, "But looking back now…" she continued, "I'm not really that worried about whatever's next!" she affirmed.
"Rebecca…" Izuku uttered, followed by giving off a smile, "Yeah," he agreed as he nodded, "I'm not worried, either," he confirmed, "So… um…" he continued, blushing a little, "Should we… go to sleep?" he wondered aloud, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
"Sounds good to me!" the Cat Leaper Quirk user responded. After a few minutes of getting their things together and changing clothes, the One For All inheritor returned to his girlfriend's room, only to find Kyoka standing at the door.
"Oh, Jiro," he greeted, getting her attention.
"M-Midoriya," she stuttered out, "Spending the night with your girlfriend, huh?" she presumed, causing him to chuckle sheepishly as he blushed.
"Yeah…" he confirmed in response, "I would've offered for her to stay in my room, but…" he mentioned, rubbing the back of his head.
"Hm," the Earphone Jack Quirk user chuckled, "You're a really lucky guy," she pointed out to his surprise, "And she's a lucky girl," she added, looking toward the door to her friend's room, "I kinda eavesdropped on the teachers and found out you two saved the festival from getting cancelled today," she told him as he blinked in surprise, "So I just came by to say thanks," she mentioned with a shrug, "I figured you two would be together after such a great day," she noted.
"Jiro…" Izuku uttered out.
"Get some rest," Kyoka advised, "You've both earned it," she added, walking off over to her room. Smiling, the One For All inheritor then entered his girlfriend's room, shutting the door behind him. As he did, the Earphone Jack Quirk user looked back.
'Thanks, you two,' she said inwardly with gratitude, 'I hope we can make something just as fun the next time,' she affirmed through her thoughts, going into her own room for the evening.

Insert "Shikisai" by Yama
Opens with Rebecca waking up for the day in her dorm room, tiredly crawling out of her bed. She makes it to the bathroom, only to widen her eyes with terror at the sight of how messy her hair is. Luckily, a comb is passed to her from Tsuyu, who she thanks.
Later that morning, Rebecca enjoys her breakfast before being given a cup of tea made by Momo. What follows is her going over to play a video game with Mina and Toru on the Switch before they have to go class. It rains on the way, though Rebecca forgot her umbrella. Thankfully, Mezo comes over, using his patagia to shield her from raindrops.
In the classroom, she talks with both Tenya and Shoto about studying, asking them for pointers. As Shota walks in to start class, she scurries back to her seat, only to find a note there. She opens it up and smiles to see that it's from Izuku, who she shoots a smile toward.
In the afternoon during lunch, Kyoka saves her a seat in the cafeteria. She's also kind enough to shoo away a pesky Minoru, though he was only making sure Rebecca didn't touch a piece of gum left under the table. As the class returns from lunch, the Cat Leaper Quirk user trips by accident, only to end up caught by Mashirao's tail. The two of them share a smile and then a laugh.
During hero training, Rebecca gets the chance to spar against Ochaco, Hanta, and Homura. She weaves past the Zero Gravity Quirk user, evades the tape of Hanta, and then closes in to land a kick on the crossed blades of Homura, who cracks a grin. The four of them continue as All Might, Witch and Shota watch on.
Yuga later offers Rebecca some cheese as a snack, which she happily accepts. She also goes the development studio with Weisz and Denki, as the three of them are met with an explosion as a dirtied Mei laughs sheepishly. With a long day nearly done, Rebecca returns to the dorms to find Koji there with his bunny in hand, allowing her to pet it warmly. She then goes over to Rikido, asking him about a favor.
Once dinner's over, Rebecca puts on an apron and starts baking, whisking eggs and mixing flour with water. Fumikage and Eijiro watch on curiously with intrigue, followed by Katsuki approaching. He takes a taste of the batter to Rebecca's shock and anger, only for her to realize that she almost missed adding some vanilla. After a little while, she pulls out a baking sheet from the oven with several cookies upon it, decorating them for Halloween.
As the class goes ahead and partakes in her baked goods, the Cat Leaper Quirk goes over and offers Izuku a treat in the shape of a heart. He smiles and blushes, eagerly eating it. Afterwards, the whole class gets themselves ready for a movie night. Shiki floats over with a bowl of popcorn and other snacks, landing on the couch between Ochaco and Momo. With the remote in her hand, Rebecca presses the play button… and the screen goes black.
END ENDING
And thus, the School Festival Arc has come to a close. It was fun to work on this chapter, especially with so much still to get through for the season. There's gonna be quite a few things we need to get through before the finale.
But for now, I'm just happy to have concluded things for this arc on such a high note. By the way, I do not own the rights to any of the songs utilized in this chapter. Thanks for reading, everyone!
