That Thursday evening, Richard reluctantly drove Hyacinth and Emmet to the former council house. They arrived half an hour after Onslow and the rest of the clan had arrived at the pub.

As always, Hyacinth was appalled at the state of her sister's front garden and driveway. She was even more shocked that Emmet didn't seem phased by the unsightly mess.

Hyacinth stopped in her tracks as she reached the gate, leading to the property.

"Richard, I want you to go and retrieve the key, in case that flea-ridden animal is inside that disgusting old car."

"I'll go, she's a lovely gentle dog." Emmet said.

Hyacinth looked on uncomfortably as Emmet made a fuss of the dog and retrieved the key to the battered front door.

Luckily for Hyacinth no-one had seen her enter to property.

She tutted as she nearly tripped over the vast amount of junk mail, final demands and flyers that sprawled out the length of the small hallway.

Once they piled into the front room they discussed search tactics. Richard put himself on lookout duty. Even though Onslow was due to give them a return signal, Richard didn't want to snoop and he certainly didn't want to get caught.

Hyacinth and Emmet went upstairs to search Jack's room.

As she opened the door to what used to be her dear Daddy's bedroom, Hyacinth held back the tears.

"There's not enough time to be sentimental Hyacinth . We need to get looking." Emmet cried.

The pair spent a good hour going through the wardrobe and draws without discovering anything. They then searched the rest of the house before returning to his bedroom. That was when Emmet lifted up the mattress and found a plastic carrier bag containing papers.

Once the mattress flopped back onto the slats, he emptied the blue bag out onto the bed and the pair started searching.

Most of it was useless. Old betting slips, used train tickets and receipts but then they hit the jackpot. Not only did they find Emmet's letter to Rose they found more incriminating evidence that Jack was using his sisters, and it appeared to be more sinister than they had imagined.

"I knew it!" Hyacinth yelled, bundling all the evidence up and stuffing it into her handbag.

"What are you doing? He will know it's been taken."

"We can't leave it all here, my sisters will be in deep trouble. Well Daisy and Violet will be Rose could be next if we don't move quickly."

"Yes, I'm glad I never gave him any of Rose's documents or belongings now. I agree we need to move quickly but we can't let him know we are onto him."

"So what do we do next?" Hyacinth asked in a panic stricken manner.

"Did you ring his wife?"

"I did but she was less then helpful she informed me she couldn't tell me anything and slammed the phone down. She was a very rude woman." Mrs Bucket explained.

"Well you need to telephone again this time explaining what we have found and insist she tells you more. Then tomorrow morning you ring Daisy and invite the whole family round. That's when you confront them and I will help."

It was a good idea but Hyacinth noticed an obvious flaw.

"But won't they get suspicious when I invite Mr O'Riley as well? They know my feelings towards him."

"You will have to convince them that for the sake of the family you want to at least try to get to know him that's why you want them round tomorrow. I'll ring the police and report what we uncovered and say he can be found at yours..."

Hyacinth appalled at the very notion interjected, "I will not have the police at my door. What will the neighbours think?!"

"That you have helped catch a potential criminal."

Hyacinth beamed at that. She had to admit it would sound good.

Emmet then suggested he would spend his lunch hour tomorrow looking into the business Jack claimed to be running. He had seen some documents containing details about a grain company so he took down the details ready to use.

As they finalised their plan the phone rang.

Richard called up to say Onslow had just ordered their last round of drinks. They would be back in about half an hour.

As they left the guest room, Hyacinth noticed a suitcase hidden behind the door. She picked it up and opened it. Placing an array of miscellaneous items onto the carpet. Both Hyacinth and Emmet gasped at what they saw in front of them. Emmet noticed his father's silver fountain pen and his clock. Hyacinth noticed her father's war medals and some of Violet's expensive ornaments. The thief had finally been uncovered. The sad part was there were many items neither od them recognised, meaning Jack had stolen from other innocent people.

Begrudgingly, they put their items and the other valuables back where they found them and left the room.

Emmet couldn't help but peer into Rose's bedroom as they made their way towards the stairs. It was exactly as he remembered it. Just without as many beauty products and clothes strewn across the carpet. His heart sank. He missed her so much. He just hoped this plan would work and he could then go on to win her back.
