CHAPTER THREE: Light and Dark

With the noisy serpent gone, the throne room became peaceful, humming a sweet note.

"Peace be with you Faith," Understanding said peacefully.

"Peace be with you!" exclaimed Faith, breaking the peace.

Be-Get: "Hey."

A Soul of Light was created, divine and radiant. Where the Light mixed with the dark, it made the darkness shine as water.

Understanding understood: "We are in the Deeps, the deeper dimensions of existence."

Through the Light, Faith saw the shape of an image in the water. It was in the shape of Man, which she had never seen.

"How mysterious," she thought. "A mystery of the Light." It was the first mystery of the First Mystery: the Word of God.

As the serpent lay on the planet, fallen from Understanding, he gazed up at the outer darkness. It appeared as a great Dragon, whose tail was in its mouth, outside & surrounding his whole world.

He gazed at himself in the waters of the Deep as in a mirror.

"This must be my image!" the serpent excitedly realized.

He really liked his image: so big, so wide, so much to admire! And his beginning and ending were the same. Perfection!

"I will be in front of my throne again, in the end." He was pleased.

"I am tall, dark and mysterious." He was proud. "So handsome. So much greater than Understanding!"

The serpent cried out to Understanding: "You have misunderstood everything! I am renaming you, 'Misunderstanding'. I'm God! Look upon my image! Is this not the image of God?! You fool!"

Understanding had a flash of understanding, and said: "You are a blind god."

The word for "blind god" was Samael, and that became the serpent's name.

As Samael gazed at the Darkness, it seemed to gaze back at him.

From the serpent's jaws, a cry went out: the Cry in the Darkness. It was a dark flame, full of passion, no words. Somehow, it expressed something deep within him; he both was and was not its origin. It was the Second Mystery: the Voice of Fire.

From the jaws of the Dragon, a responding cry: a howl of ice & dust & cold, that spiraled down his dark body, from the tail back to the head.

When their cries ceased, there was Silence. She heard their cries, the wordless expression of their inner beings. In Silence, there was recognition, and a quiet understanding. She was the second mystery of the Second Mystery: the Voice of Silence.

Silence was the daughter of the Voice of Fire. The Darkness had been absent of sound until Samael's fiery cry reached its boundary. In that boundary between sound and its non-existence, Silence was born — the absence of existent sound.

Everywhere the Light touched, the Dragon took to flight. "F— Light!", Samael was later known to say.

Be-Get was very pleased with the Soul of Light. The throne room was thrumming with musical energies.

The Light received the name Lucifer, light-bringer, for bringing light to creation.

"Hey," Be-Get said to Lucifer, greeting him.

Another Soul was created, beautiful & glowing. "Hey." Another, sweet & joyous. "Hey." Yet another; this one had an attitude problem for some reason.

It flashed red at Be-Get, as if challenging him.

"HEY!"

Be-Get's Word begot Echo, the Daughter of the Voice. She is the second mystery of the First Mystery: the Echo of the Word.

Her divine note echoed throughout the heavens.

"hey hey hey hey hey hey hey," echo rang on echo, outward in all directions.

"Silence has fallen!" Faith yelled. She was astonished by Echo.

Lesser lights were created with each echo of his Word, pleasing & sparkling — multitudinous lights that were brilliant and seemingly without number.

The lights became a sea of stars, clothing the velvet of the Deep with starlight. Where the dark of the deep mixed with the light, Shadow was generated, a velvety veil dividing the Light from the Dark.

She is the Third Mystery: the Mystery of Shadow, the unity of Light and Dark.
