A groggy Dick awoke on an extremely comfy bed, not at all like the sleeping bags they would have to sleep in at the circus tents. Wait a minute this wasn't his room.
Dick sat up alarmed and took in his surroundings. The room seemed built for a basic boy of his age with the blue wallpaper and the toys like hot wheels scattered around the floor. Somehow it still felt off. The room was too elegant and clean like a prince lived in it or something. As soon as Dick took everything in he started panicking.
"Help!" He screamed and cried. "Someone help me." Suddenly the door was pushed open in an urgent manner. Bruce Wayne took in the room and after seeing no harm was done to the boy he knelt by his bed.
"Shh, chum what's the matter?" He asked softly. Dick stared at Wayne in shock, he did not think mob bosses were capable of being kind.
"Where am I?" Dick sniffled. Wayne hesitated as if unsure how much information to give the boy. Finally, he seemed to settle on:
"You're in my mansion, the Wayne stronghold." Dick stared at him nervous to ask his next question.
"Why?" Wayne smiled at him "
"Well child, I can't have you running all over telling my little secret, can I?" He said bopping Dicks nose. Dick recoiled in shock and then started crying again.
"Please sir, I just want to see my parents please let me go home." Wayne sighed as if expecting the response.
"No need for the formalities sweetheart, call me Bruce. I'm afraid I can't let you see your parents at least not right now." Dick grew frustrated with this response.
'Why does he keep calling me names?' He thought angrily.
"Stop it!" He yelled, "My name is not Sweetheart it's Dick." Wayne smiled at that answer.
"Ok, Dick." He said as if trying it out on his tongue for the first time. Dick frowned feeling the tears well up in his eyes.
"Please Mr. Wayne, I won't tell anyone I promise please just let me go home." Wayne smiled at him sadly.
"We'll talk more about this tomorrow." He replied leaving the room and locking the door behind him, leaving Dick with just his thoughts.
