Guuuuuuuys! Another Della snippet! Here we go! 3 - justducky3

"I don't feel good about spying on the kids. I'm already on thin ice with them as it is." Della rubbed her arm as she and Scrooge walked up to the Mallard residence.

"This is the only way ye're going to be able to say yer piece. They need to hear from ya." Scrooge tapped his cane against the ground as he walked. "Besides, if Webby did her job right, as she always does, they'll never know that we were spying on them."

Della sucked in a deep breath, trying to focus on all the things she wanted to tell her boys. "No. You're right. Our family needs this and it can't wait."

Scrooge looked around at the house as they stepped up to the door. "And on top of that, those boys are up to something. I can feel it in these old bones of mine. I'm not about to wait around to find out what it is."

Before they could knock, the front door opened a crack and then all the way. Drake Mallard stepped out with his hands on his hips. "Let me guess… you're looking for your boys?"

"Hey, Drake. Have you seen them?"

"You just missed them. They left last night."

"Last night? That's just ridiculous. What, were they planning to drive through the night?" Della groaned and rubbed her face. She looked Drake in the eyes. "Louie's insomnia has been getting worse recently. Driving at night is a terrible idea! You just let them go?"

Drake shrugged his shoulders. "What was I supposed to do? Stand in the driveway and let them back over me?"

Scrooge chuckled slightly. "Leave it to the boys to be impractical."

Oh, I don't need this right now. "Webby's so perfect and mature… blah, blah." She was getting awfully tired of hearing him brag about her the whole trip. If he said another word about her, she might have to resort to some unclassy measures.

Drake crossed his arms over his chest. "No offense, but if you ask me, they couldn't have left soon enough. "

Della's muscles tensed as rage pooled in her stomach. "Excuse me?! Who do you think you are? My boys are delightful!" She poked him in the beak, widening her stance to throw down if necessary.

"Woah, woah!" Drake threw his hands up and took a few steps back that she followed. "Don't get me wrong. They're good kids… you know, besides the shifty green one. I was just saying-"

"Louie is just misunderstood! We're working on the whole… conman persona he's got going one… but it's a work in progress! What gives you the right to judge my kids?"

Drake narrowed his eyes, straightening to meet her stance. "I have a right when one of them is trying to date MY daughter!"

Della's heart dropped into her stomach and bounced back up into her throat. "Wh-what?" None of them have said anything about being interested in Gosalyn. That's ridiculous. I would have known. "Y-you're kidding right?" She smirked and punched him in the shoulder. "Ah, I see what you did there… shock me out of my senses so that I quit being mad at you."

Drake kept his eyebrows furrowed and his arms crossed. "Do you think I'd have this look plastered on my face if I was joking? Just last night they cooked up a first date in my backyard… music, mood lighting, the works!" He scrubbed his forehead. "Gosalyn is convinced she's going out with him for real and apparently they already have a second date planned. Far too fast if you ask me."

Della blinked, trying to process the idea that one of her boys was really dating a girl… and she didn't know anything about it! "Wait… which one are we talking about?" She rubbed the back of her neck. Because that greatly determines how I should be responding here. If it's Louie, we've got a lot of moral ground to cover before dating is a good idea.

Drake shrugged. "I honestly still don't know which is which. The red one who has anger issues. Have you gotten that checked out?"

Della's jaw dropped. Waving off Drake's last comment, she grabbed Scrooge by the arm. "Huey… oh, he's in love! My baby's in LOVE!" She threw her fists into the air.

Drake butt in. "Woah, there. Hold your horses! Love is a strong word. I think we better tone down the enthusiasm-"

"Uncle Scrooge, this could be the answer. He doesn't want to go to college or intern with you. Maybe this is why!" For once I can finally see into his world… what he wants and what he's interested in.

Scrooge looked at Drake for a moment. "Excuse us, will ya, lad?" He grabbed Della and pulled her aside. "Ya said it yaself on the trip here, lass, Huey's been interested in girls for a while. He changed his hair and stopped carrying that handy guidebook around for girls in highschool. What makes this different?"

Della couldn't stop smiling. It was like the sky was pulling the corners of her mouth up and holding them there. "Huey has never gotten a second date before. Either he doesn't commit or she loses interest. That's always been the case, but this time… they're already planning to see each other again! Ohhh, and Gosalyn's such an feisty girl! One after my own heart. I can't wait to ask him all about it!"

"Ya really think that's a good idea? Ya've been worry'n about how the boys react to ya this entire trip. Do ya think he'll want to tell ya?"

"Well you can't expect me not to talk about it! My baby's in love, Uncle Scrooge. Every mother dreams about a crush sesh. Sitting down with some ice cream and discussing everything about their love life! Who doesn't love that?!"

"Della, he's not a child or a girl! Let him be the one to tell ya."

Della crossed her arms and leaned back on one hip. "And what if he doesn't?"

"Then build that trust with him like we talked about. Webby tells me about the events happening in her life… sometimes too much so." He chuckled. "Like all the meals she's eaten in the last week and so on."

Ugh, more Webby this and Webby that. "Okay, that's enough, Uncle Scrooge. You can't use Webby as an example of parenting. She's like the easiest kid in the world to parent and she idolizes you!" For once, I'd like to see him try to parent the three enigmas I was given.

Scrooge looked a little taken back. "Look, I get it. The boys have always given ya and Donald run for yer money. But it's not like they get that from anywhere strange. I mean, they're your kids." He smirked and shook his head. "Ya know how much of a handful ya were, delightful but still a bit a handful. And let's not forget Sam."

Della turned away, her fists squeezing at her sides. Just the mention of his name made her whole body tense until her muscles ached. "Don't you EVER bring him up again."

"What? I'm not proud of it either but we cannae just forget about him now, can we? They have as much his blood as they do yers."

How dare he bring him up at a time like this and act like it's nothing? Della stared at the ground, clenching her jaw. "If he can forget about us and disappear off the face of the earth… then we can forget about him. Anything the boys have, they got from you, me, and Donald. We raised them."

Uncle Scrooge let out a soft sigh behind her. "Oh Della darlin', ya cannae keep ignoring the facts. Some things are inherited and ya have to address them as that. Ya cannae tell me that you don't see Sam in the boys."

No. They're nothing like him. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to down out her uncle.

"Dewey's tendencies to hyperfocus, Louie's wild ideas, and Huey's complexity… the resemblances are clearer now that they're older. It's not a wonder ye're having trouble connecting to them lately, lass." He set his hand on her shoulder.

Della yanked her arm away, avoiding his eyes. "They're nothing like him, Uncle Scrooge. We're done with this conversation." She pointed to the limo. "Let's just go find my kids."
