Chapter 31: Outsmarting the Assassin

From the restaurant within the Britannique Hotel, Rin couldn't help but feel relieved upon getting a message from Leila saying that she and the W-0 Squad wanted to join the Black Knights.

With the W-0 Squad joining, the rebellion against the Holy Britannian Empire will become stronger.

A frown suddenly appeared on Rin's face as her thoughts slowly went on Lelouch's parents; Emperor Charles and Lady Marianne.

"Emperor Charles zi Britannia is nothing but a tyrannical social darwinist that cares about nothing but change reality in his image and create 'a world without lies'. That is complete nonsense because lying is part of being human."Rin thought as she slowly drank her cup of mocha."But if Lady Marianne is on his side, does that mean she's a delusional monarch?"

Rin suddenly felt butterflies in her stomach.

Like Cornelia, Marianne vi Britannia aka Marianne the Flash had been the one to teach her how to pilot a Knightmare and use it in fighting combat.

"I looked up to Lelouch's mother a lot and saw her as a second mother."Rin thought with a troubled expression."It's still upsetting to know that she was alive this whole time and her soul is in someone else's body. Though the big question is who exactly. There are many members at Emperor Charles' court. Nobles, politicians…"

Rin lowered her cup of mocha to take out her pocket mirror.

"The host must be a female and someone we wouldn't suspect."Rin thought."But if we find that person, Nunnally said she wants to talk to her mother again."

While holding her pocket mirror, Rin was secretly using it to look at the people around the hotel that seemed out of place.

The disguised brunette lowered her pocket mirror to her face and took out a lip gloss to pretend she was putting a bit of colour in her lips when Rolo walked past her.

"Hey. That boy looks almost like a male version of Nunnally."Rin thought with a hint of suspicion."But something tells me his anything but friendly. I should watch my steps."

Once Rolo was out of sight, Rin then continued casually drinking her cup of mocha while checking the information on her phone.

"Trying to attack and kill him won't work."Rin thought and bit her lip."If his here, then he came for one thing only. To kill me. Both the Emperor and V.V must have mass hatred for me from having a strong bond with Lelouch that made him change for the better."

After finishing her drink, Rin went to pay for her beverage.

"What do I do then?"Rin thought and then an idea hit her."That's it."

As the night time hour arrived in Paris, Rolo couldn't help but be completely irritated.

He had come to the capital city of France to find Lynn Rossellini and kill her.

But the mission proved more difficult than he thought.

Rolo stood inside the Britannique Hotel, watching several people gathering for an event.

"That's right. I can't remember how many people I killed."Rin thought bluntly."Nobody counts the number of times they brush their teeth or eat a meal, same with this. My Geass is suited to assassination. That's what I was told. So I killed. There was no other place for me."

Rolo scanned the room, only to see various adults talking to each other.

"Guess this was a total waste of my time."Rolo retorted.

"You look bored."

Rolo turned around and saw a 17 year old woman going up to him.

The young woman wore a short dark red dress with folded red fabric over it and beneath the chest was a thin dark brown belt. On her feet were delicate dark red high-heeled shoes with red bows. Her eyes were sapphire blue. Her dark golden blonde hair had one round bun on each side with each of her hair was taken into a strand and curled at the end excluding her bangs.

On her hands was a glass of a mocktail rose lemonade.

"No, I just-"Rolo started.

Rin handed Rolo her beverage.

"Rose syrup is used to create this pink glass of lemonade."Rin exclaimed gently."With the fragrance of a rose, this drink is best served at parties or during ceremonial occasions. Please have a try. I'll get myself another drink."

Rin went to get another drink from the small bar while Rolo looked at the beverage he was given.

Just as it seemed Rolo was going to drink the beverage, he suddenly stopped.

"Hold on. Why would some random stranger give me a drink all the sudden?"Rolo thought with a hint of suspicion."Maybe she put something inside it."

Rin then returned to Rolo while holding a glass of grape mojito.

"Are you okay?"Rin questioned.

"I don't drink flowers."Rolo complemented, pretending to be friendly."Can I have the one you got?"

A glimpse of confusion appeared on Rin's faces.

"Okay?"Rin said in confusion.

Rin and Rolo then changed beverages.

The disguised brunette started drinking her rose mocktail causing Rolo to take a sip from his grape mojito.

"Do you like your drink?"Rin asked.

"It's good."Rolo said with a fake smile."It takes like grapes."

"I agree. A mojito with the perfect combination of the refreshing flavour of mint and sweet grapes."Rin complemented as Rolo took a few sips of his drink."But if you crush the lime and mint too hard the drink may become very bitter, so be careful."

"I never got your name."Rolo commented.

"Oh, right. I'm Stellar Loussier."Rin chuckled with a French accent."And you are?"

"I'll leave you guessing."Rolo responded.

Rin simply shrugged in respond as she finished drinking her rose mock tail.

"Va bene."Rin answered casually."Ma è proprio quando si abbassa la guardia che il cane è più propenso a mordere."

A surprised look appeared on Rolo's face as Rin left the party room and began making her way upstairs to go back to her hotel room.

"Did she just speak in Italian?"Rolo thought, his suspicion rising before his eyes widen in realisation."Wait! That's her! Lynn Rossellini!"

Rolo placed his empty glass on the counter before heading to where the hotel rooms were, only to come across various closed doors and the lights were turned off.

"Great."Rolo muttered with a glare before a Geass symbol appeared on his eye."In that case-"

Rolo's mind went in loops and suddenly felt lightheaded.

"W-What is this?"Rolo muttered, having difficultly concentrating."Why do I feel I can't concentrate?"

Rolo's vision blurred and he found it increasingly hard to concentrate.

"That drink she gave me. She put some drug inside it."Rolo retorted coldly and started to lose his consciousness."Damn her."

Rolo then fainted and collapsed on the ground.

Rin then came out of her hotel room and looked down at the unconscious assassin.

"Let me translate what I said to you."Rin complemented with a small glare."But it is precisely when the guard is lowered that the dog is more inclined to bite."

A few hours later, Rin met up with Leila and Akito in Castle Weisswolf.

Rolo was gagged and chained on a van sack truck while held inside a prison cell within the ancient castle.

"So you and your team accepted?"Rin asked.

"We see that the Black Knights' intention to free the whole world from Britannia's tyranny is true, Rin."Leila commented.

"And it seems you and Zero need all the help you can get to start a rebellion."Akito stated."So you have the W-0 Squad's support."

Rin smiled and approval as she shook hands with Leila and then Akito.

"Thank you both so much."Rin thanked.

"Also, another thing."Leila complemented with a hint of concern."About that assassin. What do you intend to do with him?"

"If we let him go, he'll warn the Emperor."Akito warned."Shouldn't we just get rid of him?"

Rin shook her head.

"That's a good theory."Rin stated, unsure what to do with Rolo."But first I think I should call Zero. I'll let him decide that kid's fate."
