Aaand here we go!
Next chapter of this story!
A bit of forewarning, Bakugou is kind of a huge dick in this one. Not gonna lie, coming back to pre-character development Bakugou is an interesting experience. Like... It is hard to write him as a horrible and arrogant asshole when you know that he is going to change for the better later on. It's like trying to write Zuko during Book 1 now that we've seen him become a good person.
He has yet to his slice of humble pie here. And Izuku awakening his amazing power is going to only make him worse. But I am planning to let him deal with this and grow from it as he should.
Anyway, onto the story!
Aldera Junior High was an average school with neither outstanding positives nor outrageous negatives. In all the years that it had existed, Aldera never won or did anything of note. From its faculty to its students, the school lacked anything noteworthy about it.
All of this made it the perfect place to serve as his origin story.
Katsuki would graduate from this shabby school and carve his name in the history of heroes. And when people looked into his past, they wouldn't find some fancy tutors or elite school. Instead, they would see that everything he had and made in his life was the product of his own work and talent.
He was going to be the only reason why anyone would ever talk about this sad excuse for a school.
Him and him alone.
Which is why hearing the people chatter about Deku and his Quirk grated on his nerves.
"I heard he got several Quirks!"
"Mom says she saw him at the hospital. Not even a scratch."
"I think I saw him flying. How awesome is that?"
Normally, he cared little for the useless chatter of the equally useless extras. None of them had any worth to him. They trash-talked him behind his back but stood quiet if he so much as looked in their direction.
He would have kicked their asses a long time ago. But letting them live with knowledge of just how pathetic they were was way better. Let them bitch and moan about him all while he continued to work towards his dream.
"You think he is going for U.A. now?"
"Oh definitely!"
"Hey, wouldn't it be fun if he beat Bakugou at the exam?"
"Yeah," he interrupted the trio near the stairs. "It would be fucking hilarious."
The three little nobodies fled almost immediately, all while screaming their apologies. He didn't give a single shit about what these extras thought about him. Why would he when talking shit about someone way out of their reach was about the only thing they could do?
But hearing them talk about Deku like he was some hot shit made him sick. Especially when he knew that this was exacty what this fucking nerd was aiming for this entire time.
He'd known Deku ever since they were kids.
Deku was always following him around. Like some leech who hoped that his talents would rub off on him or something. No matter what Katsuki did or where he went, Deku just followed him like a damned stalker.
But none of that was bad or disgusting as the nerd's dream of becoming a hero.
He had no Quirk. No other superpower or skill. Even if Katsuki didn't understand why Guardians had Darkwing, he could at least acknowledge that the man put in the work and pulled his weight. But Deku didn't do any of that either.
All he did was just scribble useless notes in his notebooks and daydream about becoming a hero.
For years, Katsuki thought that this was just Deku being a delusional idiot. It was pathetic and annoying. But he could tolerate it. Let the loser sit on his ass and waste his life dreaming about something he never worked for.
But the stunts he pulled in the last few days?
Katsuki refused to just sit and take that kind of bullshit.
All this time, he believed Deku was Quirkless. That he was lazy and delusional. So he went easy on him. He would only put the bastard in his place when he annoyed him too much. Hell, he tried to leave him alone as long as he didn't piss him off.
And all this time, Deku was just pretending that he had no powers?
Fucking nerd played me for a fool!
A powerless and weak loser suddenly awakens strange powers and goes to U.A.? Yeah, it was a good origin story. It would definitely resonate with the other losers out there who dreamed of one day just waking up strong.
He would admit it, it was a good fucking play.
Too bad that it wouldn't earn Deku any mercy.
"Did you really talk to Immortal? What was he like?"
"Seriously, what is your Quirk, Midoriya? Do you really fly or just jump real high?"
"Did you really get a whole bus dropped on you? How awesome is-"
The extras froze in their place the moment he stepped through the door. He sneered as they quickly rushed away from Deku, leaving the little shit all alone.
"K-Kacchan, is everything okay?"
There he was, lying to his face.
As if he would fall for this again.
"How long have you had your Quirk, Deku?!" He scowled, grabbing the liar by the collar. "How fucking long have you been playing me, you bastard?!"
"I-I didn't!" More lies. "K-Kacchan, I swear, I got this Quirk out of nowhere!"
Bullshit! Quirks didn't just come out of nowhere. Not like this.
"Seriously, Kacchan, let go!" He felt Deku's tighten on his wrist. "I don't wanna hurt you! Please!"
Hurt him? Deku... would hurt... him?!
Katsuki saw red, feeling the heat rush to his hands.
"You are the one who's getting hurt, Deku!"
The world before him blurred before his palm connected with Deku's lying mouth. Someone struck him from the back almost immedately. Did one of the extras decide to play a fucking sidekick to Deku or something?
A second later, he realized that nobody him with anything. Rather, it was him who slammed into the wall with his whole back.
No. He didn't just slam into it.
"I-I am so sorry!"
He was thrown at the wall by Deku.
"Are you okay, Kacchan?" he knelt down while the rest of the class gathered around them. "How many fingers am I holding up?"
While Izuku was busy fussing over him, the others watched in shocked silence. It was no secret that Bakugou was far from popular among his peers. He had the looks, the brains and the Quirk necessary to make him the king of their small school.
But all of that was wasted when these gifts came with the ego the size of Japan.
None of them were strong or brave enough to stand up to him. It was simply not worth the risk when he seemed content enough to bully only Midoriya. So long as he focused on the delusional hero otaku, it was okay to just ignore him.
None of them ever expected Midoriya to develop a Quirk, especially one as strong as his. But what shocked them even more was how quickly and easily he turned the table on their school's top dog.
None of them expected for it to look so hilarious, either.
Bakugou Katsuki, Aldera's self-proclaimed top dog and future top hero, was sitting on the floor with the dumbfounded expression while the dust and dirt from the hole he just made with his back covered him from head to toes.
Someone broke the silence, letting out a small chortle. To their credit, that person tried to hold it in. But the moment they failed and started laughing, the others joined in. So while Midoriya was trying to make sure that his childhood friend was okay, the others were busy laughing at the defeat of the class' biggest asshole.
"H-Here," Deku extended his hand. "let me help you up!"
The damn shitty memory resurfaced.
Their group was playing in the woods. He slipped and fell in the tiny stream. He didn't cry. He didn't even feel anything. He was not some brat that whined over something as stupid as getting a little wet.
"You look hurt, Kacchan!"
And yet Deku, the most useless member of their group, tried to help him. He never needed any help from anyone then.
"Let's get to the nurse's office to see-"
He certainly didn't need it now.
"FUCK OFF!"
Katsuki lunged at Deku, tackling the bastard to the ground. He could deal with the rest of the bitches later. Right now, all that mattered to the blonde was beating the two-faced fucker into pulp.
"K-Kacchan, sto-!"
"Just fucking die, Deku!"
He raised his arms, ready to blow the bastard apart.
"What is going on here?"
All eyes turned to the doorway and their homeroom teacher standing in it. Kogitte-sensei was far from an intimidating authority figure. He was far from a model teacher either, happy to let the kids use their Quirks inside the classroom as long as they didn't cause too much noise.
Which Bakugou and Midoriya very much did.
"Both of you, outside," the man sighed and gestured at the two to follow him. "You better have a good explanation for all of this."
Aldera Junior High was not an outstanding school. And much like its students, the staff preferred to keep things quiet for the sake of their own comfort. Nobody paid them enough to care more than they had to. And dealing with the troublesome kids and their personal issues was more trouble than its worth.
When both Bakugou and Midoriya agreed to keep their fight outside the school, Kogitte-sensei was all too happy to keep the entire thing to himself.
As long as they weren't on the school grounds - more importantly, in his class - they were free to resolve their issues on their own.
It was all part of growing up, after all.
-BOOM-
The school day came to an end. But that only meant that his fight Kacchan would resume the moment he stepped out of the school gates. His childhood friend was smart enough to not cause trouble lest his record gets damaged. But he wouldn't just let Izuku go either.
He knew that Nagasa and Kamumaru were keeping an eye on him even if Kacchan had left the class already. The moment he tried to sneak out through some other exit, they would alert the blonde and then he would be even more pissed.
Not that he would calm down any time soon. Not after getting humiliated in front of everyone today.
But that's not my fault!
He didn't want to hurt Kacchan.
Despite how strained their relationship had gotten over the years, Izuku still looked up to his childhood friend. He expected Kacchan to be happy for him, too. He thought that, now that he had a Quirk, they could fix the weird rift that formed between them years back.
Looks like he was wrong on that one.
He seriously thinks I was hiding my Quirk this entire time? This doesn't make any sense!
There was no reason for Izuku to hide something like that. If he had gotten a Quirk at any point in the past, the first thing he would do would be showing it to the others. Not to brag or anything like that. But to finally be the same as everyone else.
Of course, now he knew just how different he was. He wasn't fully human. And his powers came from his alien heritage rather than a Quirk.
Not that he could tell anyone about it.
Not yet.
"You will need to keep this a secret, Izuku," mom whispered as she held him close. "One day, the world will be ready to accept you. But until then, you must not let anyone know where we really come from. The Viltrumite powers are great, Izuku... But they can also do a lot of harm if not used properly."
Izuku sank his head in shame as he recalled this morning's fight with Kacchan.
He didn't meant to hurt him. He just wanted to push him away. Instead, he sent the blonde flying into the wall.
It was only his luck that Kacchan was strong enough to shrug it off.
But what if it was someone else that he pushed?
What if he didn't push Kacchan but punched him instead?
What if he threw Kacchan off and out of the window by accident?
Crushing metal weights and machinery in the Quirk Testing Lab was one thing. But now that he saw just how strong he was, Izuku was almost terrified of his power. He knew that he could do a lot of good with this kind of strength. But he was not skilled or disciplined enough yet to make use of it.
Which is why he refused to continue his fight with Kacchan.
"The fuck did you just say, Deku?!"
The surrounding crowd made up from their classmates murmured and whispered among themselves. They came here for the show. But Izuku wasn't interested in possibly hurting his friend just because he awakened his powers.
"You win," he raised his arms in surrender. His cheeks burned in embarrassment because of the audience. "I am really sorry for what I did today. And I am really sorry for... lying about being Quirkless."
It stung. It really did. After all, he never lied about Quirkless. He went through his share of bullying from the others for it, too.
But if it placated Kacchan and kept them from fighting, he could bear with it.
"Look, I really don't want to fight you, okay? So please, Kacchan, can we call it even and just... stop?"
He and the rest of the small crowd watched Kacchan in silence. Some started to leave when they sensed that the promised fight wouldn't happen.
Then Kacchan slammed his palms together, drawing the crowd back in.
"... You are really looking down on me, aren't you?" Kacchan looked up from the ground, staring Izuku in the eye with the cold fury etched into his face. "You get one cheap shot in and think you are hot fucking shit? Is that it, Deku?"
"W-What? No!" Izuku groaned. How did he even come to this conclusion? "Come on, Kacchan, please! Be reasonable here! I am not trying to fight you!"
"That's the one thing you got right," he growled. "Instead of fighting you... I will kill you!"
Kacchan leapt across the small distance between them, using his explosions to propel himself at the other boy. The crowd cheered and some gasped in excitement. And then they watched in awe as Izuku took off towards the sky.
They waited for his next move. Was he going to just dive down and pummel Bakugou? Maybe drag him by the collar and drop him into the nearby pond?
But minutes ticked away and all Midoriya did was just float out of Bakugou's reach.
"DEKU!" the blonde roared. "Get the fuck down here and fight me!"
Tired of weighting, the rest of them quickly joined in calling for Izuku to come down and fight.
"Yeah!"
"Come on, Midoriya!"
"Kick his ass, Midoriya!"
Almost everyone down there was cheering for him. Izuku often dreamed about the day his classmates would cheer him on. It was a fantasy where he gained some awesome Quirk and went on to fight villains while the classmates that once ignored him would root for him.
They were cheering for him now. And a part of him wanted to give them exactly what they wanted.
He stomped that part of himself down before flying away.
"Deku, you bastard! Don't you fucking dare run away!"
He could hear Kacchan's explosions go off and he felt the slight hear at the tips of his feet when the blonde got close enough. The blonde was just a few inches away from grabbing onto him when Izuku tensed up and willed his body to shoot through the sky.
Izuku didn't want to break his promise to mom and dad so quickly after scaring them like he did yesterday. But between disappointing them and seriously hurting Kacchan, he chose the former. Plus, he had no intention of flying home all the way back from school. He was only going to shake Kacchan and the rest of the class off before getting back on the ground.
At the very least, that was the plan before something slammed into him from above.
Oh, come on!
Did the universe decide to punish him for breaking a promise to his parents? If it did, throwing a huge chunk of metal seemed like an overkill. Especially when it pushed him towards the busy streets at rapid speed.
He focused on the air around him pressed his palms against it, imagining the dust and dirt particles as the surface to grab onto. The trick worked and Izuku slowed down. He watched the human-sized chunk of steel that crashed into him fall down.
It was funny, though.
From here, it almost looked like a person.
He looked a lot like...
"Tech Jacket!"
Izuku cursed under his breath as he finally recognised the guy who made waves a year ago with his sudden rampage against the Los Angeles villains and criminals. Nothing was known about him and he quickly disappeared off the face of the Earth after getting the mob boss put away for good. So what was he doing here?
The answer to that question could wait until he stopped the armored hero from crashing into streets.
He is unconscious. I gotta slow him down.
Izuku propelled himself down and towards the other guy. With each passing second, the ground grew closer to the two. And despite pushing himself to his top speed, there were still several feet between the two of them.
He was going to crash.
[Deploying safety rope.]
A thick steel rope shot out of the guy's chest. Izuku shook off the shock and grabbed onto it. Slamming his feet into the air, he let the body carry him off while using his flight to slow down the other person's fall. The stop was rought but not dangerouly so. They had good four or five stories between them and the pavement.
"Let's get you out of here."
The people started to gather beneath them. Not wanting to attract any more attention, Izuku was quick to take the person to the nearby roof and gently set him down.
As Tech Jacket slowly regained consciousness, the rope retracted out of Izuku's hands and slid back into the guy's chest.
"Ugh... Where am I now?"
He sounded young. Much younger than Izuku imagined.
"Musutafu."
"Cool!" he cheered. "And it is in...?"
"Japan."
"Oh, so that's what you call this place now?"
The two boys turned their heads to the source of the voice.
"Gotta say, the architecture has changed a lot since I last visited."
Growing up, Izuku was used to people with unusual appearances. As the Quirks emerged and spread, the idea of what was normal changed as well. Especially when it came to physical appearances. Neither his bright orange skin nor his single giant eye were particularly unusual for the modern Quirks.
And yet, something just felt so... alien about the person in front of him.
"Probably because I am an alien," the man - the alien - roll his giant eye at him. "It's not giant, okay? Seriously, it is barely above the average for my people."
"Y- You can hear my thoughts?"
"Your very rude thoughts? Yes," the guy sighed before looking at Tech Jacket. He pushed past Izuku as Tech Jacket took on the defensive stance. "Excuse me, but I am not done with this guy yet!"
With the cocky grin, the man punched Tech Jacket into the sky before flying after him.
Izuku quickly followed after them. Even though he didn't know the context of the current situation, he couldn't just stand around and let the other guy get beaten like that.
The air was getting thinner as he followed them higher and higher. And yet he pushed through until there was nothing around them but clouds. He was glad to have caught with the two before they entered the actual space.
"You are persistant, huh?" the alien smiled. "Sorry, but I am only fighting this guy right now!'
"Not anymore!"
Izuku pushed himself to go faster before he overtook the two. Cocking his fist back, he aimed for the alien's shoulder or ribs. Instead, his fist connected with the alien's giant eye.
"Ow, my eye!"
It still did the trick, breaking the alien's grip on Tech Jacket's neck.
It also left the alien open to counter-attack.
"I'll charge an attack, you keep him occupied!"
Izuku tackled the alien in the air. He didn't have the combat experience or skills to outfight him. So the best thing he could rely on right now was his flight. Using it and his ability to create his own leverage, Izuku kept shifting the center of mass around the alien. Effectively keeping him in the same place while Tech Jacket prepared to use one of his weapons.
"Agh!"
Unfortunately, the alien had the good enough reach and enough strength to pry Izuku off himself.
"Seriously, I appreciate the effort but I am only here to fight one of you," the alien said. "And I already started with him. So how about you just sit this one out?"
"Get down!"
Izuku slipped out of the alien's grasp and barely escaped the blast of concentrated energy. The two teens didn't celebrate just yet, however. Whoever this guys was, he was strong enough to shrug off their attacks until now.
Their suspicions were proven true when he emerged from the smoke. Not unharmed but still conscious.
"That's what you two call protecting your planet?" he cocked an eyebrow at them. "I am sad for your people!"
Izuku felt the air leave his lungs as the alien slammed into him. His movements were much faster and powerful than his own. Just who was this guy?
"Let him go!"
Tech Jacket's arms turned into miniature gatling guns. Izuku could feel the heat coming off of them the moment they hit the alien's tough orange hide. But he didn't seem any more bothered by them than a person would be by raindrops.
"Haha, I guess Geldarians just don't make them like they used to!"
Grabbing him by the ankle, the alien threw Izuku at Tech Jacket. He could feel the metal creak and bend under him. Worse yet, he heard the guy inside the suit cry out in shock and pain.
"You okay?"
"I'll live," Tech Jacket groaned. "You?"
"I've been better. Seriously, what does this guy want?"
"Other than kicking our asses? No idea."
"Are you guys taking your break? Not gonna lie, I am pretty sure that ganging up on me disqualifies you from one," the two boys exchanged a confused look. "I mean, I could still take you both in a fight. Easily. But it is still against the rules. So some points are going to be deducted."
"A break? Why do we get a break?"
"Hey, I am not the one who made the rules."
"What rules?" Izuku joined in. "And what points are you talking about?"
Not it was the alien's turn to look at them confused.
"You guys don't know?"
"Know what?" Tech Jacket asked. "We literally just met you!"
"Oh. I see," the alien cleared his throat. "All right, um... I'm an evaluation officer for the Coalition of Planets. I drop by little dirtballs like yours to make sure there's someone capable of defending them against, you know, planet-conquering monsters, things of that nature."
"And you do that by attacking out of nowhere?"
"Well, I don't what to tell you. Your planet knew what it was signing up for," the alien held up the device with an image of a planet on it. "See? Request from Urath for evaluation."
"Urath?" Izuku questioned.
"This is Earth!" Tech Jacket pointed at the ground beneath them.
The alien took a long look at the world beneath them.
"Earth? Not Urath?"
"No!"
"Oh, I'm in so much trouble," he put the device away with a sigh. "Well, thanks for letting me know. I'm Allen, by the way."
The two boys looked awkwardly at the extended hand.
"Tech Jacket."
"Midoriya Izuku."
"Haven't picked your hero name yet, huh?" Tech Jacket chuckled from under his helmet.
"H-Hey, I got time!"
In the end, Allen left without much trouble. Despite the alien kicking him and Tech Jacket around the place, Izuku sincerely hoped that he wouldn't get fired for this. He seemed like a pretty nice guy other than... all of that.
The view from here made up for all the trouble, though."
"Wow..."
He'd seen the pictures of the Earth from space before. But seeing it in real life was another whole experience.
The world looked so much smaller and quieter here. And yet, one could almot feel the life emanating from the planet.
"Sir?" Tech Jacket pressed his fingers against his earpiece. "Uh, yeah, the situation's resolved."
Tech Jacket stood quiet for a few brief moments. With the occasional "yes" and "no", he continued the conversation with the other person until he turned towards Izuku. Even if his face was hidden behind the helmet, Izuku could tell that he was nervous.
"Uh, Midoriya? My boss wants to see you."
Suddenly, the view of Earth seemed so much less welcoming.
"Where is your boss again?"
"... Pentagon."
Oh.
Maybe he should have let Kacchan just kill him.
Aaaand done!
Next chapter, Cecil and GDA make their appearance.
Also, on Spacebattles, people have been discussing the pairing for this story.
While the romance is not the main focus, I believe that we should still have it here. The core of Invincible is all about love and it would be interesting to see who Izuku enters the relationship with here.
Some of the suggestions are:
- Dupli-Kate
- Melissa Shield
- Atom Eve
- Ashido Mina
But feel free to throw out your own suggestions.
See you next Friday! And have a great weekend!
