A/N: Thanks to qazse for help with reactions as always.
As she was about to start the episode, Katana thought of something she herself was guilty of and that some members of the audience were as well, but they would likely be mad at Rage and other hunters for, so now was probably the time to fix that, looking over to the cinnamon trio. "You know, girls, I can understand why you don't like Kulu. But You three are being very unreasonable, and over dramatic. You can't just be biased towards a creature simply because of its diet." She told them.
"But it-" Ruby began.
"She's right girls. While we don't approve of it gorging itself, and wasting the rest of the egg without finishing it. We don't think it deserves this kind of discrimination, simply because it has to eats." Ozpin agreed.
"I agree. Animals literally kill and eat each other on a daily basis. Even herbivories are known to kill and maim each other in fights. Bashing Kulu Ya-Ku for eating eggs would be no different to hating a bear for eating fish, or a lion biting onto a gazelles neck, or an hawk digging it's talons into a rabbit." Glynda added.
"And before you three try to justify your opinions on the bird, let me ask you. Do you really what to stoop to Rage's level of pettiness? Cause you being just as biased towards Kulu Ya-Ku as he is towards some monsters." Winter pointed out.
"Sorry Bun-Bun, but they do have a point." Coco told her girlfriend.
"You three are being a little too sensitive over what some monsters eat." Yang agreed.
Ruby was hesitant, but finally relented. "...Okay." She accepted.
We'll... try to keep a more open mind from now on." Velvet added.
"I guess we really aren't being fair since eggs is what they primarily eat." Pyrrha agreed. [1]
"Well, at least you learned your lesson and are willing to accept it. That's more than I can say for Rage and some other hunters about our first monster." Katana said, playing the video.
A large fish-like creature could be seen swimming underwater as the JAWS theme song played and smaller, regular fish watched as it passed. An aptonoth was then seen on the shore coming to a river and starting to drink. However, the water was clearly being disturbed a small ways out, a POV shot showing the creature gunning straight for the poor herbivore. The music began picking up speed and urgency as the monster got closer and closer, finally breaching from the water, before everything froze and new, more romantic music began playing, the singer repeating "When he looks at me~ And I look at him~" as the frame changing back and forth between predator and prey, with the predator moving ever closer until the scene played normally again and the fish-like beast grabbed the Aptonoth and dragged it back into the water, going a good ways out before the Aptonoth suddenly popped up, trying desperately to swim, before the predator seized it and dragged it back under never to resurface.
Everyone felt a shiver up their spine at the first bit of music, which changed to panic as the beat picked up and the monster closed in. "Th-that music is... freaking terrifying." Jaune said.
"It makes the build-up to the attack as bad as the attack itself." Emerald said, shocked.
"That was the theme from JAWS, which many people consider to be the ultimate Summer blockbuster horror movie and the best shark movie of all time. I love the movie, but hate the impact it left on our culture. For years afterwards, people thought that sharks were just mindless killing machines and people used that to hunt them en masse, now most species are endangered. And now, there's more shark horror movies than almost any other kind of movie! Plus, every now and then, some assholes will still post videos of themselves dragging sharks behind their speedboats, or shooting them to death and, even though it's illegal to hunt and kill sharks, a whole country pays for people to catch them, cut their fins off so they can turn their fins, that are made of cartilage and are basically inedible, into soup that tastes like shit and-!" Katana explained, going on an unintelligible rant. [2]
"Sorry. Our whole family is pretty touchy about the subject. Especially our grandma and uncle Sai. Compared to them, mom's reaction is tame. But it is really bad how they get the shark fins the soup. They cut the fins off and then throw the shark back, but without their fins, they can't move and therefor, can't breathe, so they drown." Tekko explained. [3]
"How terrible! I'd say her rage is perfectly justified." Glynda said, feeling sympathy for the sharks of their host's world. Sharks on Remnant often attacked sea-faring Grimm, so they were protected on Remnant and people never really considered eating them in the first place.
Then things got weird with the other music. "What the?! What's with the change in music? That SO runs the mood!" Roman complained.
"Yeah, this just felt like it's going in a REALLY weird direction. One I'm not comfortable with the girl's seeing." Summer said, using her semblance and blindfolding her girls.
"Mooom!" They both complained.
And lastly, they were all shocked and horrified at the Aptonoth's final moments. "Poor Aptonoth. It never even saw it coming." Pyrrha said sadly.
"To be drowned like that..." I can't think of a worse way to go." Cinder said nervously, gulping a bit.
"Especially for those few seconds it got away, knowing it had a chance, but with the shark not far away and the shore so that far from reach, not to mention it's probably not the greatest swimmer... All those factors would make a human have a heart attack, forget most animals." Qrow added.
Aylia was then seen sneaking around near a river in the forest as the creature in question swam back and forth rapidly. "Hello, fellow hunters, today... Today, it's time to talk about piece of shit. Also known as bullshit and to some, hip check and, in VERY rare cases, he has been called Plesioth." Rage introduced the beast, before a clip showed a cartoon where a yellow-skinned man with red hair was smacked by something, with Plesioth superimposed over whatever it was, grumbling in anger and annoyance. "A Piscine Wyvern, then and the first of his kind, known as the Water Wyvern because- I mean, he's not worth putting any kind of imaginative effort on, that's fair." Rage mocked the beast.
"Rage is being mean again." Velvet pouted.
Winter sighed at this. "Let me guess, he's not a fan and will spend more time insulting the beast than actually teaching us about it?" Winter questioned.
"That would be correct, yes." Razara said.
"Lovely." The Specialist groaned.
Plesioth was then seen swimming in a large desert lake. "Now, a Piscine Wyvern is superficially quite similar to your basic flying variety, just with an injection of fish-like features: you got your shiny scales, you got your webbed feat, you got a powerful tail, you got your fins and the wings, not for flying, but for cutting through the water and propelling himself out of it at great, terrifying speeds, a row of needle-pointed, shark-like teeth lining his maw and, surprisingly, though... lacking in gills. Plesioth still needs to breathe air." Rage explained as the Plesioth rose halfway out of the ground and firing a horizontal water jet from its mouth, before going back below the waves.
Everyone was quite surprised at this. "Wait, it can't breathe underwater?" Yang asked.
"I know, right? I thought it was literally a fish monster, so it would have gills." Blake agreed.
"Well, they are still Wyverns, which likely makes them reptiles, all of which have lungs for breathing. It only makes sense." Ozpin said.
"Right. Because Because panthers with blade wings for front limbs and electric gorillas makes sense." Hazel scoffed.
Then, they saw it shoot the water jet. "Whoa! It has a water jet cutter attack like Mizutsune! So cool! I bet that would help cut through metal to make pieces for weapons super easy!" Ruby said.
"Fascinating! For Plesioth to be able to do this, it must exert massive amounts of internal pressure to force the water out with such speed and power! That is already impressive enough on its own, but to be able to move its body while firing requires intense levels of muscle control!" Penny pointed out.
"With these things around, your friend Neptune would have to be afraid of the water even when he's nowhere near it." Ilia giggled.
Aylia was then seen trying to avoid the Plesioth's water jets as the beast in question stayed in the water, out of her reach. "Granted, he can hold his breath for so long that this is rarely a problem and, indeed, he needs to be able to, for he is an ambush predator, patrolling its large territory, which it defends with jealous zeal, until it senses a disturbance: a tongue lapping at the water's edge, a herbivore ripe for the taking. Launching off at unfathomable speeds, it will rocket forth, crashing through the surface and sinking its teeth deep into the unfortunate soul. Not only does this- how we say, in the scientific community- HUT LIKE HELL! Plesioth has the ability to deploy a neurotoxin, which will slowly and surely put the victim to sleep, its struggles ceasing as the air leaves its lungs, the flesh its body and the life its eyes..." Rage told of the beast's first trick in battle as Aylia circled the beast, now on land, avoiding a couple of hip checks and attacking back.
Most of the teens were laughing as Rage shouted about how much the bite hurt. "Karmic justice at its finest. You don't respect nature, it most certainly won't respect you." Weiss declared with a smirk.
"Yeah! It literally comes back to bite you in the butt!" Nora laughed.
However, the laughter and smiles quickly went away at the mention of the neurotoxin. "Oh, great. So its poisonous, too. Just when I was thinking being a giant monster with razor sharp teeth that could shoot a water jet cutter from its mouth was a little too tame." Coco grumbled.
"Actually, Coco, its transfers the toxin through a bite. That makes it venomous. But it's strange: neurotoxins normally attack the nervous system, destroying nerve tissue and damaging your organs. They don't normally put you to sleep. Then again, as Hazel pointed out, these creatures are FAR from normal." Ren explained.
Aylia then moved to avoid as Plesioth fired its water jets once again. "Plesioth, also more than capable of hunting underwater, too, striking hard and fast into, really anything smaller than itself, competing with Lagiacrus, though at a disadvantage, for it's not the biggest fan of, you know, being electrocuted. More than capable of spending time on land, but never wanting to stray too far from a nearby river or pool, due to it being somewhat defenseless to the more aggressive terrestrial predators. Tigrex, for example, are quite fond of sushi. Though that said, Plesioth are HUGE. They are CHUNKY and that size keeps them well safe from most even thinking about challenging them. Though granted, still ungainly on land, they mostly try to throw their weight around, or indeed, deploy their most deadly weapon, highly pressurized jets of water that can carve through the very rock, stored from its time underwater and expunged out through a series powerful muscle contractions up its throat. This bores holes in prey and hunters alike." Rage explained as Plesioth fired its jets.
"Impressive. If it can put holes in rocks, it should be able to cut through just about any Grimm... And maybe even some of your Paladins, general." Adam said, throwing in that jab at the Atlas military at the end.
Ironwood growled a bit at the insult, but nodded. "It could pose quite a threat to us, yes. But like you said, it also poses a threat to the Grimm. And I see them coming into contact with it far more than most human civilizations would. Especially Atlas." The general agreed.
"Jeez, if the monsters will really fight the Grimm as much as we expect, they might make those shadow freaks extinct." Neo said.
"Doubtful. The Grimm have existed since before mankind has. The monsters may be powerful, but not enough to completely eradicate such an ancient force." Ozpin told her.
Aylia continued to run around the beast as it turned tiny bits at a time to face her while again shooting more water jets at her. "The most striking feature, though, about this creature are its hips. They are the largest hips of any monster. The Plesioth has the ability to conceal most of their form in true invisibility. In fact, he can even make them pass through solid matter as if they weren't there, but the fact remains... they are. His hips expand outwards for many, many meters, both up and down, surrounding his environment and making it near impossible for anyone nearby to not get smacked in the face. It is a mystery how he does this, has such a large phantom body, but it's one of the most powerful adaptations ever achieved by a creature. In fact, many hunters that take on this legendary beast find themselves HATING it. In fact, Plesioth has such a bad reputation, it once tried to speak out for itself, defend its position and its hips. This was the result." Rage spoke with an echo, before showing a clip from when Plesioth publicly defended itself.
"Aww, poor Plesioth. There's no reason to be so mean to the poor thing." Summer said sympathetically.
"But it's strange how much emphasis he's putting on the creature's hips. It's understandably large and the hips are indeed rather bulky, but surely they can only reach so far." Glynda pointed out.
"Yeah, you'd think that, but it seems like no matter how far away you get, it still somehow manages to get you." Razara said, shivering at her own experiences against the beast.
"Maybe you guys underestimate how big it actually is and you don't actually move far enough away to get out of range, so your minds make up irrational reasons for how it still gets you." Emerald theorized.
"Don't try to rationalize it. I promise you, it won't work." Tekko told her.
An angry dark-skinned man popped up at this. "Man, this is some bullshit! Boo this man!" He ordered, the rest of the crowd with him booing and throwing food and soda can at another dark-skinned man with Plesioth's head superimposed over his head, forcing him to flee.
Many were also confused at how the creature attempted to speak out for itself, but were then angered at the crowd booing and assaulting it with thrown food and beverages. "Hey, lay off! So it hits you with its hips a few times! Big deal! You're hunters! Fighting giant monsters is your job, you can expect to take a few hits! I've been hit by more than my fair share of Grimm, but I still don't hate them that bad." Yang snapped.
"Oh, really? Have you already forgotten initiation when you pulverized that Ursa for clawing off A SINGLE strand of your hair?" Blake asked with a teasing smirk.
"Ooh, Yang has a brutal side? I'd like to see that sometime." Neo purred.
Aylia and the Plesioth were in the watery forest again, still fighting. "In fact, there are many, many first-hand accounts of hunters that have faced down the first of the piscines." Rage added as Aylia managed a horizontal slash on the bottom of the creature's chin.
Suddenly, another dark-skinned man in a suit was shown, the words "Gen 1 + 2 hunters" being shown in the bottom left corner, with Plesioth to his left. "This... Is BULLSHIT!" The man declared angrily while standing up.
A British man was then shown, appearing to be on a train, "Gen 3 hunters" being shown in the corner. "Bullshit!" The man snapped, before a Plesioth image came flying at him, slamming into him with a cartoonish punch noise.
It then immediately cut to another man, "Gen 4 hunters" now in the corner. "You know what? This... This is bullshit! THIS IS BULLSHIT!" He yelled, getting up from his seat and getting away rom a man with Plesioth's head superimposed over his.
Suddenly, another cartoonish yellow-skinned man was shown, "Gen 5 hunters" shown in the corner as Plesioth slid off the screen to the right. "Brilliant!" He laughed, before looking completely confused. "I have absolutely NO idea what's going on." He said awkwardly.
Once again, the cinnamon trio was up in arms, ready to defend the monster. "Stop being such meanies!" Ruby snapped at the screen, angry that entire generations of hunters constantly hate on this one monster simply for being what it is, a lesson she had just learned she was guilty of herself and now was desperate to correct. "I know I was bashing Kulu for eating eggs, but that was only one thing I didn't like! You guys are hating on Plesi for being everything it is!" She snapped.
"Multiple generations of hunters have dealt with this creature and haven't found a way to handle it? That says a lot more about hunters and how they need to change than it does about the monster." Pyrrha agreed.
"Exactly. And maybe if they don't like fighting the monster, then they should just leave it alone instead of fighting it, getting annoyed by it and hating it more and more for just doing what it's supposed to. At least Plesioth is effective at what it does, which means the hunters are hating it for how bad they are instead of how bad Plesioth is." Velvet added. [4]
"Wow, you girls really did learn from that lesson. I honestly already forgot about it until you guys spoke just now." Roman admitted.
"What he said. Nice job, Bun-Bun." Coco praised her teammate.
Back to the forest, the Plesioth quickly ran away, almost like a duck, as Aylia put a lot of time and power into an extra-strong attack that sadly missed. "As such, Plesioth remains one of the most infamous monsters-" Rage began, before breaking down into laughter. "I can't! I can't! It's just ridiculous! Okay?! Like, honestly! Even in a serious lore video, I can't give this guy any respect. I mean, fuck that fish! Not really, don't. Context is important, everyone." He continued to laugh as Aylia started going for vertical swings to slash at the beast's belly while she stood somewhat safely between its legs.
"Buddy, if you don't want that ammo used against you, don't give it to us in the first place." Qrow said, chuckling a bit.
"It's honestly sad how often he tries to make jokes, but he's only funny when he's actually NOT trying to make them." Cinder added.
"It would also help if his humor didn't revolve around vulgarity or stupidity." Winter pointed out as well.
Finally, the host got back on point. "So, they're sleep-inducing toxin is not just in their teeth, it is actually in their spines, too. A brush against a Plesioth can, well... give you a night's sleep so go you are... you're probably not waking up from it. He can also breathe through his skin like an amphibian and really- like imagine that! Imagine putting your head against something's skin and just feeling a gentle-" He explained, before making a breathing noise. "I mean, like- ah! I kind of want to experience that, but also I kind of don't. Either way, it's very helpful for Plesioth, to take on the air it needs by just simply skimming the surface of the waves and absorbing a little bit here or there." He informed the audience while Aylia dove forward to avoid a hip check from the beast.
Everyone was caught off-guard at the host's desire to feel the monster's skin breathing. "Okay, I am REALLY worried about this guy's mental state." Jaune said.
"It's definitely a fragile one at best. I doubt it would take much to push him to full-on insanity." Ren agreed.
"But... Now I kind of want to feel what that feels like, too. I bet it'd be cool feeling the a bit of a breeze sucking you in a bit." Nora admitted.
"Oh, great. And we KNOW she's crazy already." Adam said, earning a glare from Ren.
Plesioth then flopped down on the ground and moved across the ground as if it was still swimming. "The scales themselves on a Plesioth are sharp and serrated, tearing would-be attackers to ribbons upon contact and each individual scale is more than capable of being used as a weapon or shield alike. They are incredibly resilient and take humongous force to crack. Talking of humongous force, the bite of a Plesioth can crush through a Carapaceon's shell like it was not but butter. In fact, they have been found to be fond to snack on a little bit of crab every now and then. The swim speed of this guy should really not be underestimated. I touched on it before, but it can outpace a galloping horse fairly easily, which for a creature of that size is utterly boggling." Rage explained as a pair of horses could be seen running through some kind of dessert field with epic music playing, before the sound of a fast-moving car could be heard and the image of a Plesioth zoomed past the horses incredibly fast.
Weiss became a bit giddy at seeing the horses. "Incredible. My mother has a wide collection of incredible horses back home. I always adored riding on them." She said, daydreaming about one of her happier childhood moments that involved her parents. Of course, her mother didn't completely abandon them after she started drinking, but it was still far from the happy life she remembered. However, she still adored the horses and even made sure that a small team of servants was always around to provide the horses with whatever they needed.
"To force its body through the water that fast. Its tail must be strong enough to break someone's aura in one strike." Hazel said in shock.
"Luckily, it doesn't tend to use its tail to attack. Sure, it may smack you with it as its turning, but that's only the natural weight of the tail hitting you, not the muscles behind it. That being said, I have to agree with Rage earlier. It HURTS LIKE HELL!" Razara shouted.
"Yeah, the piscines don't have a lot going on upstairs." Tekko agreed.
Rage and Plesioth were now fighting inside a cave. "And in the water, they are beyond agile, swirling around, twisting and turning, flying by its intended victim, each time taking with it a chunk of flesh until the blood loss is too grave. They are brutal, they are efficient and above all, still BULLSHIT. Perhaps most interestingly, though: female Plesioth hatch their babies internally, growing within them and competing inside the body of the parent. In fact, it is very common, like many species of sharks, for them to consume and devour each other within until one healthiest and strongest remains that is then brought out into the world. It's with this kind of start that you realize why Plesioth are evil, bastard sons of bitches." Rage explained as a video of baby sharks swimming around in the womb was shown, eating the other eggs and its smaller hatched siblings.
"That's a thing that happens?!" Ruby asked, heartbroken and horrified.
"Sadly, yes, Ruby. I cannot speak for Plesioth, but the Sand Tiger Shark is known to have countless eggs in their twin uteri, then some of the eggs hatch before others and, in order to get the energy necessary to survive until birth, as well as eliminate the competition of being born and so they have enough room to grow until the day they are born. Also because the female may breed with multiple males, so the babies also eat each other to ensure that embryos from another father will not survive." Penny explained sadly.
Ilia shuddered at this. "Why does nature have to be so messed up? Most of the nature shows I've watched showed everything all sunny and beautiful. Why can't we go back to that?" Coco complained.
"That's not what the world is. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. It's a hard place to live sometimes." Ilia declared.
"She's right. Life always has struggles and hardships. Even the very planet has hardships in the form of natural disasters. If we didn't have to struggle to overcome adversity, we would've been wiped out long ago. Adversity and hardships are just that, hard, but they help build us up, make us stronger and help us survive." Ironwood added.
Aylia rolled out of the way of a hip check, running back as the beast repositioned itself so she was under its feet. "There is a Plesioth Subspecies by the name of GREEN Plesioth!" Rage added with a laugh. "I know, I know. Hold the phone!" He said mirthfully.
Suddenly, a familiar and infamous clip from Avengers was shown: Bruce Banner approaching the robotic Leviathan flying towards the team. "I'm always angry." He said, before growing into the Hulk, only this time, a Green Plesioth that appeared to be upside down, was superimposed on him.
Everyone laughed at the reference. "Nice! Awesome Avengers reference!" Neo giggled.
"And one of the best moments in the movie." Cinder agreed.
"Any reference to that movie is awesome." Yang told them.
Return to the cave battle, only this time a Green Plesioth was in the corner, covering most of the normal Plesioth. "And it's of the old-school Subspecies types where it is essentially just the original, but... more, right? More damage, a bit faster, more aggressive, it's nothing really worth talking about, but it is a little bit better at handling land. In fact, it indeed prefers it and the green coloring does help it blend in to its more now jungle-y lifestyle, but... Really it's- It's nothing crazy." Rage finished as Aylia finally slayed the normal Plesioth.
"Quick and simple explanation. Fair enough." Glynda said.
"Right. No need to go into great detail on basically the same monster." Summer agreed.
"I still want to eat either one." Blake said, earning sweatdrops from the rest of the crowd.
Suddenly, the scene changed from a cave to one of the volcanic areas of the Elder's Recess. "So, while we're talking Piscine Wyverns, then... Let's get Lavasioth over with." Rage said with very little enthusiasm as the creature moved between three holes in a rock platform above a pool of lava. He started speaking again, but quickly sighed. "It is really just Lava Plesioth. Its eyesight then, is very poor, which is actually a common trait amongst all the Piscines, which I think is far enough, because it means they can't see how much we loathe them. It then is distantly related to a Coelacanth, but- you know, with legs. It has a nice little habit of keeping a layer of hardened lava, coal or other some such hard material ore indeed as well across its entire body. This makes it incredibly durable, like quite literally chipping through rock. This is an effective defense and also helps to insulate it against its lava-ry home." Rage explained as the beast leapt between the holes in the ground, briefly coming to land, but going back into lava as Aylia approached.
Everyone was left shocked and speechless as they saw a literal lava fish breach out of the molten rock. Cinder sighed as she closed her eyes and rubbed her temples, irritated at seeing another monster capable of screwing with physics and surviving the heat of lava. "Don't question it... Don't question it..." She repeatedly told herself. She would definitely have to work with the other elements when she got the other half of the Maiden power if monsters like these would be dropped in Remnant. [5]
"So Blake, you gonna try and eat THIS fish too?" Nora asked with a sly grin.
Blake shivered at that idea. Either burning her mouth on a fish perpetually cooking inside a rock-hard shell or breaking her teeth on the shell. "...No thanks, I'm-I'm good." She said nervously.
The beast launched out from the lava to the land once more, knocking Aylia down in the process, before she recovered and quickly attacked the beast. "An incredibly rare creature and its not often something is able to tolerate such an extreme environment. But it has to be said, for the Lavasioth, from its skin and scales all the way to the flesh at its center, it is undeniably, impressively heat resistant. Burning this creature is no small feat and would take Elder Dragon levels of infernal fire power to even get started. It can quite comfortably bask in lava for as long as it needs. In fact, it goes as far as to consume it for a little bit of a snack, storing it within itself to fuel its most devastating onslaught: firing explosive globs of lava that rain out and shatter into a small rain of death. Impacting into would-be victims, they start to burn and writhe in agony, their flesh melting away as the Lavasioth gently strolls over and starts to eat them while their faces are locked in an overwhelming, ghastly mask of torment." Rage declared ominously as Aylia avoided that exact attack.
And everyone will groan as Rage give a, very, detailed description of it's victims burning alive in lava. "Why does he always need to do that? We're all aware how gruesome some of these deaths can be. No need to give us the explicit details." Emerald complained.
"The fact he goes into such explicit detail on the topic is cause for concern about his mental state." Penny added.
"Then again, he could just be acting. Spruce Willis always plays a brutal action hero, but I've always heard he's a super nice guy." Jaune suggested.
"But apparently, as an actor, he's really difficult to work with." Emerald said.
"You're a Spruce fan, too?!" Jaune asked excitedly, not noticing Pyrrha's angry glare at him and jealous glare at Emerald.
"You bet! Expire Difficult will always be amazing! Or at least the first four." The former thief agreed, also unaware of Blake's glares aimed at her and Jaune, but the emotions reversed from Pyrrha's.
Aylia continued to maneuver around the beast, dodging many flopping attacks. "The Lavasioth, of course, does not in the lava, for there is not much to be found there, occasionally competing with an Agnaktor, on which it's quite even footing. However, it does tend to lose out to the likes of Brachydios, because Brachydios the best monster, come on. And even in the new world, where they have also been found: Bazelgeuse, Deviljho and even Azure Rathalos are quite comfortably above their paygrade. That said, though, they are vicious and capable and even one of these creatures, if caught off-guard, could find themselves suffering permanent disfiguration at the wrath of such merciless heat. One thing that Lavasioth does enjoy doing is killing Vespoids, they tend to sting it and it irritates it and, really, its the one thing that me and Lavasioth can agree on, so in this rare case, okay... High-five, Lavasioth!" Rage declared, the Lavasioth leaping out of the lava and into the air, a slapping sound being heard as if Rage had high-fived the creature's face.
"Heck yeah, he is!" Yang said in response to Brachydios being the best monster.
(Hey! I thought I was your favorite! And I should be since I'm your partner!) Raiden growled.
"Sorry buddy. But it's another punching monster and I can be a fan to both of you." Yang told him.
The rage monkey growled at this, then huffed. (Fine. But I'm still better.) He grumbled.
"Aww, he's jealous." Neo said. The monster's fur then turned golden and stood on end as he stormed towards Neo, but Kin stepped in between them.
"Come now. There's no need to fight. There should be no shame in how anyone feels." Ozpin told them all, managing the impossible of calming down a pair of enraged beasts.
The Piscine Wyvern then swam back and forth across the ground in an attempt to attack Aylia. "Extremely territorial, like the Plesi and, during the mating season, the female will cover itself in the rarest ores it can find, trying to shine bright and brilliant above the rest in order to attract the male in a very role-reversal, peacock-esque display. And that really is all there is to know, it attacks with your slide-y, lava-ry fun, it likes to use its relative weight and body around, throwing it in slams and crushes, aided greatly by its rocky exterior, its bites not as vicious as that of the Plesioth, but still plenty damaging. Able to surprise from underneath, boring through the volcanic rock with the furnace of heat it can produce and coming down from the sky with a rain of magma accompanying. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeves and is adept at using his environment." Rage finished as Aylia observed the beast from afar as it literally DRANK LAVA.
"Hey, finally! It's the females that have to do the dolling up for once instead of the males, unlike almost every other species in nature EVER." Qrow said.
"I was thinking it was a little unfair to the men to have to do most of the work in most species. Especially when it often gets them killed." Penny agreed.
"Wait, what?" Jaune asked in fear.
"Well, being flashier usually makes you a lot easier to pick out of a crowd. Not to mention, in cases like the peacock, those giant feathers weigh them down, so they have difficulty flying away." Glynda explained, causing all males present to gulp.
Aylia was then seen swinging on a wire from some kind of bug perched on the branch of a dead tree, observing Jyuratodus as it swam in a shallow, muddy pond in the distance. "Then, we have, of course... Jyuratodus. Much more superficially linked to Lavasioth, in fact, it could quite easily be categorized as a Subspecies of one. It covers itself in mud instead of the lava and ore and some such and spends its time basking in the beating sun of the Wildspire Waste, sitting in the swamp and waiting for prey to approach. It will eat the corpse of a Barroth, but is not capable of outright taking one down. In fact, they are very even and incredibly competitive with each other, both claiming stakes to the same territory and conflict brews often, the titanic clash of these beasts is a sight to behold." Rage explained as the Jyuratodus noticed Aylia in the tree and leapt to attack her, knocking her down into the water below, at which point, she ran to a small island out of the water, continuing to observe the beast, before it and the smaller fish-like creatures moved to attack her.
The cinnamon trio growled. "This thing again." Ruby growled.
"It clearly has all the space it needs there in the more swamp-like area." Pyrrha agreed.
"Well, just because it has space to move around doesn't mean its enough. Even way smaller creatures in our world need more territory than that." Emerald told them.
The Jyuratodus then went below the water and rocketed up from the ground beneath Aylia, sending her flying and crashing down into the shallow, muddy water. "Other than that, the Jyuratodus will go after the Apceros, crunching through their shells as if they essentially weren't there and able to absorb the impact of their spiked clubs in retaliation through the dispersion of its mud. It is effective at what it does, but what it does... is not really much. Like a Barroth, it will shake mud off of itself, creating trap globs that will constrict the movement of any that get too close and find themselves fallen in. It is, when not in the presence of a Barroth, fairly calm, though it will defend its territory quite violently if disturbed by something else. It also rarely likes to use its legs, but it is capable of doing so, though is a much less effective predator when not surrounded by the swamp in which it holds true advantage." Rage said as Aylia battled the creature, avoiding the globs of mud it spat out as Rage had said.
"Then that means it shouldn't have to compete with Barroth for resources. The dessert's big enough for both of them and they don't even eat the same things! Jyuratodus eats big monsters and Barroth eats bugs!" Velvet argued.
"Well, that probably means we won't see them on Remnant. Vacuo isn't exactly known for its mud holes. Simply dry, arid desserts with occasional oases." Weiss said.
"Same with the desserts around Menagerie. That is, of course, the Grimm out there don't make it a fish fry first." Ilia added.
"Oh, they can live just fine in jungles and other kinds of swamplands, too. I think you guys really underestimate how common mud is around water." Tekko told them.
A huntress in the dessert was then shown. "Well, there you have it, guys! That's your basic Piscine- Oh! I guess- I guess we could talk about Cephadrome. And, I mean, we could! But, honestly-" Rage began as a large creature that looked like a sandy-colored hammerhead shark with legs.
Suddenly, a clip was shown of two men sitting around, one with a Cephadrome's head superimposed over his head. "Fuck 'em!" The dark-skinned man shouted as the monster-headed man.
"Wait, what?" Weiss asked.
"Apparently, he's somehow even LESS of a fan of this one than the others, so he's not even going to bother talking about it." Hazel sighed.
"Curse you, Rage! Did it ever occur to you the people of your world at least, potentially even others, may NEED this knowledge!?" Winter demanded.
"Well, he threw a tantrum once to get out of talking about Jyuratodus, it wouldn't surprise me he'd do it for other monsters." Ren pointed out.
Back with the Huntress, smaller versions of these creature suddenly began circling her. "Look, I don't like him! I think he LOOKS stupid, I think he SOUNDS stupid, I think he IS stupid. He just swims in sand, jumps around the place and is irritating. I don't care about him and I don't want to even think about him! Alright? Fuck Cephadrome, okay? I had a bad experience when I was a new hunter and fuck him!" Rage broke down to tears as the alpha of the creatures leapt from the sand, crashing down on and destroying the rock the huntress stood on while observing the small ones, the huntress barely diving to safety.
"Stop being a meanie to the poor sand shark!" Ruby complained.
"Yeah. I think it looks cool! Rage is just being a jerk!" Velvet agreed.
"And extremely unprofessional." Ironwood added.
"Has he EVER been professional in the first place?" Blake questioned. No one could argue that point.
"Still, I wonder what his bad experience was?" Summer asked, showing a bit of concern.
"Well, I don't know that, but I CAN tell you one of my brother's more embarrassing stories from his early days as a hunter. When he first started out, instead of his dual blades you've seen him with now, he used the Greatsword. Very strong, but VERY slow. And Cephalos and Cephadrome were quite speedy beneath the sand. So, he kept following one through an open dessert area, trying to hit it and failing, but then he found out they tend to swim in a repeating trail. So he plotted his attack and, after several missed attempts, he finally managed to kill it... A Cephalos, not a Cephadrome. All that time and effort for the WRONG monster. He was hilariously angry." Katana explained, earning a chuckle from the audience, even more so when they imagined Rage in Sai's place.
"Thoughts?" Katana asked.
"They were all pretty interesting. Plesioth had many impressive abilities and Lavasioth's heat resistance is incredible." Penny said.
"Incredibly headache-inducing, but they weren't bad." Cinder admitted.
"The sleep-inducing bite was very interesting. We might be able to use that to make tranquilizers for other monsters." Ironwood theorized.
"I think they all had something unique about them to make them worth remembering." Yang added.
Then, of course, everyone turned to look at Blake. "What?" She asked in confusion.
"You know." Weiss said.
"I really don't. What is it?" Blake wondered.
"Do you still want to eat them?" Emerald asked.
Blake glared for a moment, before blushing and looking down. "Yes." She admitted.
"Just Plesioth, or...?" Neo asked.
"I'd eat Plesioth and Jyuratodus. I thought about it for a while and realized the mud was only on the outside. If you cook it well enough, that'll burn off any nasty mud flavor or germs. That's what people do for catfish." Blake said.
"Cephalos and Cephadrome are actually pretty tasty, too." Razara explained.
"So, what's next?" Adam asked.
"Oh, prepare yourselves. You're about to see some true titans! Remember how Rage is usually saying there's four monsters that can beat Elder Dragons, two of them being Deviljho and Rajang?" Katana asked.
"Yes." Everyone agreed.
"Well, you're about to see the other two. Prepare your minds for two true gods of light and darkness, way better than your versions. Behold, Ukanlos and Akantor!" Katana declared, playing the next video.
A/N: Thank you for reading and as always, I hope you enjoyed this!
One more friendly reminder, by the way, I've come up with a new challenge! The Joestar line watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. There's a few fics of others watching the show (mostly RWBY and MHA), but there's absolutely no fics of JoJo characters reacting to anything, so I figured this would be a good place to hopefully jumpstart some fics of that nature.
The main idea is this: all of the JoJo's are brought in to watch the series, so Jonathan can see his lineage and all the other JoJo's can see the adventures that came before theirs, occasionally bringing in people important to that part of the story (for example: George Joestar and young Speedwagon in Phantom Blood, old Speedwagon, Caesar and Lisa Lisa in Battle Tendencies, the Stardust Crusaders in... Well, Stardust Crusaders and Josuke's group of Stand Users in Diamond is Unbreakable. And others if you want, but careful not to go overboard (trust me, I know)) to have their additional commentary and see scenes they weren't around for and/or oblivious to.
[1] Yeah, qazse and I realized we went a little too far with how we the cinnamon trio for hating on Kulu because of its diet, so they thought of this scene to teach the girls a lesson about their attitudes towards the beasts, especially since their future commentary about how bad hunters hate on Khezu would've been seriously hypocritical, so thank you for that scene, qazse. Sorry it took me this long to use it.
[2] Seriously, there are other animals to make horror movies on. ENOUGH with the shark movies! You know it's bad when review channels can make videos like "top 50 best/worst shark movies ever" and "100 shark movies you didn't know existed". I can't find the list, but my brother told me he actually looked up "animal horror movies" on Wikipedia and it gave a list of shark and non-shark movies. It had around 60 movies off animals that were not sharks and 80+ movies that were about sharks, so you have to combine all the different animal movies NOT about sharks to even get close to the number of shark movies there are.
[3] Yes, this is true. The people who hunt sharks for their fins can go die. Gordon Ramsey actually made a documentary on how horrifying this process is, all for a soup that he personally says like shit... Well, he actually says it tastes like nothing and the broth of the soup is the only decent part and that the shark fin ruins the dish. THE SHARK FIN ruins SHARK. FIN. SOUP. Wouldn't that be like if apples ruined APPLE PIE? If that were the case, we'd stop making the pie. And again, shark fins are cartilage, stuff humans are NOT SUPPOSED TO EAT. It's like eating the leaf part of the strawberry... the POISONOUS part.
[4] Honestly, I never really had much of a problem with Plesioth. Or at least the hip checks it's become infamous for. Much like Cotton, it's the tail swipes that would get me. And honestly, it's a simple solution: instead of trying to dodge or run of the beast, which is nearly impossible, just use a weapon you can with and block.
[5] I'm pretty sure I've implied either in Iron Man 3 or somewhere in this story that at this point, Ozpin believes Cinder would be worthy of receiving the other half of the powers.
[6] This happened the first time Sai played Monster Hunter 2 on the PSP. His rage that followed was hilarious. And no, he didn't know about Sonic Bombs at the time.
