A/N from tumblr: I actually did research with regards to snowfall for this (was not supposed to be wasting time on research for these), and then mostly ignored it because it didn't fit my plan (which was barely a plan to begin with), I did not ignore the potential tiva, and neither did Gibbs apparently

A/N: I remember doing the research, I don't remember any of the writing

Prompt: a little too early for snow

Tiva

"Any plans for your vacation?" Tony asked as he signed the paper in front of him.

"Thought I might go skiing."

He looked up in surprise. "It's a little too early for snow."

"There might be enough snow in Vermont by then," she said casually.

Vermont. Quaint, romantic Vermont. His stomach tied into a million knots at the memory of her last trip there. He assumed her memories were significantly better, despite how that particular relationship ended.

He blinked and glanced at the paperwork in front of him. Was she seeing someone new? He frowned going over the past few weeks in his mind, trying to remember if there had been the slightest hint, or change in behavior. She was good at hiding things, but he had gotten better at reading her.

Nothing stood out to him, he would have to use his investigating skills to see if she had shared anything with McGee or Abby. After all, nobody goes to Vermont all by themselves. He chewed the inside of his cheek, thinking about candlelight dinners in front of a lit fireplace, getting cozy and warm under a woolen blanket to stare at the night sky, tapping tree branches against the window.

He frowned again, realizing the tapping came from the desk across from him.

Ziva was staring at him mildly amused, while tapping a pen on her desk.

He cleared his throat, not sure how long he had been lost in thought. "So, um, who are you going with?" He feigned interest in his empty computer screen, and watched her shrug nonchalantly from the corner of his eye.

"Perhaps a friend."

Tony narrowed his eyes at the black screen, and bit his bottom lip. The last two times she had "a friend" it didn't end well.

Despite feeling hurt at her once again keeping secrets from him, even though they had agreed to be more open and honest with each other, he glanced at her and smiled tightly. "Sounds nice, anyone I know?"

"Depends."

He narrowed his eyes. "On what?"

"On whether you can convince Gibbs to give you two days off on Monday and Tuesday."

Shaking his head slightly, he said, "I doubt it."

The knots in his stomach got tighter and tighter. Trying desperately to figure out who she was seeing, without looking too bothered by the whole situation, he went back to staring at his empty monitor.

Ziva sighed, pushed her chair back, and walked over to stand next to him and lean back against his desk, close enough for the air around him to crackle with electricity.

"Tony," she said softly.

He looked up at her, just as her gaze wandered to the empty screen he had been staring at. Her brows furrowed briefly, then a soft smile graced her lips. Meeting his eyes, she said, "You are my friend."

He blinked once, making sure he wasn't reading into things. "You want me to go skiing with you?"

"Yes."

He nodded. "Still think it might be too early for snow, even in Vermont."

She glanced away with a chuckle, then leaned in close enough for him to feel her breath on his face.

"I'm sure we can think of something," she said and raised an eyebrow.

Tony once again nodded. As the meaning of her words started to take hold of his mind, his eyes widened, and his lips parted, unsure of what to say for a moment. "Really?"

Her eyes were full of promise and mirth as she glanced at his lips. "If you can get the extra time off."

At the ding of the elevator they both placed a little more distance between them. As Gibbs passed Tony's desk, he decided there was no time like the present to work on your future. "Boss, I need next Monday and Tuesday off."

Gibbs stared at him as he rounded his own desk and sat down, not saying a word.

"It's for, um, emotional...mental health reasons...kind of..."

Gibbs' stare slid form tony to Ziva's back.

Tony glanced up at her, and found her staring ahead, mouth screwed shut in an effort not to laugh. He inhaled sharply, and mumbled, "You're no help."

Ziva let out a barely contained snort, then glanced at him with sympathy, before facing Gibbs. "We want to go skiing together."

The unexpected honesty made Tony's head snap up and eyes go wide. Gibbs' stare landed on him and he resisted the urge to squirm in his seat.

Gibbs looked at Ziva. "A little too early for snow."

Ziva shrugged. "If there's no snow we can't break any bones, and we'll be back at work as expected."

Gibbs tilted his chin up slightly and focused on Tony, who simply stared back. The corner of Gibbs' mouth twisted up briefly as his eyes softened, and he nodded once. "I'll figure out a replacement with Vance." He booted his computer. "You two will have to figure things out with Vance when you get back."
