Francine looked at him. "That is some story Mr. Winthrope. You were a witness to Lee's death. You obviously can't come to the Agency right now. But I will come back and show you some pictures. See if you can identify the man that killed Lee. But for right now I am more interested in who shot you?
The London Police and Interpol have been investigating and they have a suspect named Irene Hamilton. They have one of the men that shot you in custody. His name is Dominik Kovacs. He is Irene Hamilton's brother. They believe she hired her brothers Viktor and Dominik to murder you and Matthew."
His dad looked at her. "That's crap. It isn't true. Irene has no part of this. She would never do that" Francine sighed. "Mr. Winthrope she married your grandfather 6 years ago. She was 18 when she married him. He was 87." Lee sighed.
"It wasn't romantic between them. Her family are connected to the Armenian mafia. My grandfather did her father a favor. So, he gave him his daughter. My grandfather only married her to protect her. He treated her more like his assistant than his wife. She was just so grateful to my grandfather for getting her away from her family. She does not talk to her family. She is not behind this.
God she even made sure that my grandfather did not put her in the will because of her family. He was going to leave everything to Irene and me. We both talked and decided that neither of us wanted it. That's when we decided it was better to just leave everything to Matty. We would run the trust until he was 25. She had access to all the money already. She did not need to kill us. Plus, Matty loves her. Right kid?"
Matty nodded yes and tapped. "I would have let her have all of it if she needed it." "Matty just said that he would have let her have whatever she needed. Believe me I know she looks horrible on paper. But Irene has nothing to do with it. "
Francine spoke "Well, she has disappeared. she was on vacation in Wales, and someone must have tipped her off because they have not found her yet." Matty noticed that Phillip had been taking notes. Then Francine looked at Phillip "You got all that Prince? Amanda, can I see you in the office across the hall alone for a few minutes."
They left and his dad turned to Phillip. "Do you think she figured out I'm me? Is that why she wants to speak to Amanda alone." Phillip nodded. "Your story was pretty good. I almost believed it. Francine's pretty smart though. But I think she wants to know more of why mom is protecting you. She's giving mom the third degree alone right now. Mom's harder to break than you are though." His dad scoffed at that. "Your mom is not harder to break than me." Phillip laughed. "Really dude? You think your tougher than mom?" His dad smiled. "Yeah Chief. Your right. I'll give you that one." Phillip smiled "You did a good job selling that story. Did you ever actually meet Michael Winthrope? Was any of that true?"
His dad smiled. "Well, my grandfather did call me "Jenny's Bastard" as a nickname since I was five years old at my parent's funeral. He stopped though when Matty and I moved in. I did not actually have an emergency Barnstorm person at the warehouse. That might have been a good idea though. It really is something I would have done had I thought of it.
The hot wiring of a car and driving all night was true as well. There was no good reason that we flew out of Boston. I just was upset because I thought your mom was dead and kept driving. Matty & I ended just ended up there. The passports I had on me the whole time. They weren't really in the airport locker. I did have money stashed there though. I have money and stuff stashed in most every airport I've ever been to."
"The part about Michael & his mom showing up to see my grandfather when he was 10 years old is true. Michael's mom was a junkie then. My grandfather felt bad about sending Michael away. Not so much Michael's mother. But he thought maybe he should have taken the boy. That the real Michael Winthrope would be alive today had he done that.
My grandfather is probably what I would have turned into if I never met your mother and actually made it to an old age. He really was an alright guy once I got to know him.
My grandfather lost everyone in his life. His parents died when he was 11. His brother in World War 1. His wife died in childbirth. All he had was my mother and then he lost her too. He did not want anything to do with me because he thought I would die too. And then when I did. He regretted not getting to know me. Actually, Chief my grandfather collected classic cars. There's a garage full of them. If you..."
Phillip looked at him. "No way man. I would not do my girl dirty like that." His dad laughed. "Sorry about Francine coming to the house tonight. I tried to stall her until tomorrow. But as soon as I told her you were at the house. She wanted to come.
I read all the stuff on she compiled on you and Matty. What your coworkers and coach said about you two. That you were an amazing teacher. Your students loved you. Matty's soccer stuff is impressive. Nobody had a bad word to say about either one of you. Also, Irene Hamilton. I was expecting some old chick not a hot young blonde chick." His dad raised his eyebrow. "A hot young blonde chick?" Phillip nodded. "Yeah, your grandma's hot dude." His dad laughed. "Well actually she would probably like you. If you ended up with her. You could be my new grandpa."
Notes:
What? Did I just give Phillip a love interest and it's Lee's grandma? Did I just turn SMK into a telanovela?
Did Francine figure out it was Lee? Yes of course she did. She has seen pictures of Lee's parents and came to the realization that Lee looks like his dad. Why would Michael Winthrope also look like Matthew Stetson when Michael Winthrope is on Lee's mother's side of the family. So Lee is 100% right on why Francine pulled Amanda into the office. But Francine is not going to let on that she knows yet. I can't figure out how to work that in the story because it's from Matty's perspective. So I'm putting this in the comments because its more fun to read this if you know that Francine does know and is faking not knowing.
