It was a normal day at school for one eight-year-old girl named Hannah Marie, as she and her classmates kept talking about their favorite holiday that was coming up which is Halloween. Everyone is super excited about it, and none of the kids could stop talking about what they were going to be. "Fairy queen or princess?" Hannah asked herself, she really wanted to go with a different costume this time as she had used her old fairy costume the year before, but she was unsure of what go as for Halloween this year. "The teacher's coming with a new girl!" One of the girls in Hannah's class told them, Hannah and the other kids scrambled into their desk chairs before doing the assignment that had been put on the smart board. "Nice try kids. I already know that you hadn't done the morning worksheet." Mrs. Prescott said with a smile, the whole class groaned as they had thought that their teacher wouldn't catch on.
"Can't fool the teachers, believe me. I've tried." The dark blond haired girl spoke up, everyone looked at their new classmate as she stood before them, everyone seemed to be entranced by her pink-ruby eyes before taking note of what she was wearing, a white long-sleeved shirt under a pink t-shirt with a blue skirt, white knee-high socks and light blue sneakers. Hannah was excited to make a new friend, and wanted to talk to her really soon. "Kids, meet Soleil LeBlanc. She's from New Orleans." Mrs. Prescott told the class, they raised their hands to welcome her and ask questions about which part of New Orleans Soleil had lived in before moving to their town, but one boy asked an unexpected question. "Do you really have rougarous and vampires in New Orleans?" The boy asked with a smirk, he wanted to scare the other kids even though Mrs. Prescott didn't approve of his bullying behavior. "Rougarous?" Hannah asked in wonder, she'd never heard of that kind of monster before. "Rougarous? You wanna know about the creatures that eat little children?" Soleil asked as she stalked over to the boy who had asked her, the boy in question started to lose his smirk. "They eat kids?" Another girl asked in fear, she wasn't sure if Soleil was kidding or not, but either way, she and the others didn't want to hear about it, if the legends were true or not as Soleil walked slowly around the classroom as she began to explain.
"Rougarous are monsters with the head of a wolf, and the body of a bear. They can transform at will and prowl the night looking for little children to eat, one bite from a rougarou, will turn you into one. Some say they're just a myth while others say that rougarous are real after seeing one, being lucky enough to live and tell the tale, but if your not careful enough to stay inside at night...you'll become the next meal of a rougarou!" Soleil shouted in a spooky voice, the kids the room screamed in fear before they heard Soleil's laughter. "I'm kidding! Rougarous are just a story that parents tell their kids to get them to stay inside at night." Soeil said as she finished laughing, the whole class along with Mrs. Prescott sighed in relief. "Alright, enough spooky stories. We still have work to do." Mrs. Prescott told the kids, Soleil sat down next to Hannah with a smile before getting to work on the new lesson."Maybe I should ask Scary Godmother about rougarous." Hannah thought as she worked, if anyone could tell her that rougarous were real, it would be her Scary Godmother, the very same person who had helped Hannah overcome her fear of monsters two years ago on her first night of trick-or-treating while also helping to teach Jimmy and his friends a lesson after they'd scared Hannah by making her go into the old spook house.
As the school day went by, Hannah couldn't stop thinking about Soleil and what she'd told them about rougarous, and try as she might, Hannah tried to talk Soleil. Only each time, someone would interrupt them before Hannah could even get her question out. "Why can't I talk to her?" Hannah asked as she grabbed her backpack, after leaving the classroom for the day, Hannah went to meet up with her cousin Jimmy and his friends, Bert, Daryl and Katie. "Hey, Hannah!" Katie called out, once the younger girl made it to her older cousin and friends, they left the school grounds in order to walk home while chatting about their day which is why the four older kids became interested in Soleil when Hannah told them about her. "I've never heard of rougarous." Bert said with a shiver, he and the others were worried about this new kind of monster and were unsure if it was a myth or not. "Soleil says they're not real, but who knows." Hannah replied with a shrug of her shoulders, just as Hannah looked just a head of her, she then saw Soleil. "That's Soleil!" Hannah said as she gestured to the dark blond haired girl. "Looks like she's listening to music." Daryl said as he noticed Soleil wearing headphones, the others noticed that now. "Wonder what she's listening to." Jimmy added as Soleil turned up the volume just a little before she began to sing along.
[Play Carolina by Taylor Swift]
[Soleil]
Oh, Carolina creeks running through my veins
Lost I was born, lonesome I came
Lonesome I'll always stay
Carolina knows why for years I roam
Free as these birds, light as whispers
Carolina knows
And you didn't see me here
No, they never did see me here
And she's in my dreams
Into the mist, into the clouds
Don't leave
I'll make a fist, I'll make it count
And there are places I will never ever go
And things that only Carolina will ever know
(Music)
Carolina stains
On the dress she left
Inedible scars, pivotal marks
Blue as the life she fled
Carolina pines, won't you cover me?
Hide me like robes down the back road
Muddy these webs we weave
And you didn't see me here
No, they never did see me here
And she's in my dreams
Into the mist, into the clouds
Don't leave
I'll make a fist, I'll make it count
And there are places I will never ever go
And things that only Carolina will ever know
Oh, oh, ooh
Oh, ooh
Oh, oh, oh
And you didn't see me here
They never did see me here
No, you didn't see me here
They never saw me
(Quick Pause)
Oh, Carolina knows why for years they've said
That I was guilty as sin and sleep in a liar's bed
But the sleep comes fast, and I'll meet no ghosts
It's between me, the sand, and the sea
Carolina knows.
At that last note, Soleil had turned off her music then headed into her new house, all without realizing that Hannah, Jimmy, Bert, Daryl and Katie had been watching her. "New neighbors...now we know." Bert said with a smile, he was trying to break the silence had formed as the five had listened to Soleil. "Our mom's are going to want to know." Jimmy told Hannah, she knew that her cousin was right as she pointed to her mother and aunt. "I think they know." Hannah replied to him, the two went to intervene stating that they should let the LeBlanc's unpack now and get used to the town first before overwhelming them with a welcoming party, to which they agreed, but only if Hannah told them what she already knows about the LeBlanc's daughter. "I'll tell you on the way home." Hannah promised them, the group went back to Hannah's house to talk and do their homework before working on their plans for Halloween. "Should we invite Soleil?" Jimmy asked his cousin and friends, the five talked it over, then decided to invite Soleil to trick-or-treat, and then to their Halloween party. "I'll ask her tomorrow." Hannah said with a smile, that said, any further plans for Halloween were put on hold until they got Soleil's answer, so this way the group of five could become six and they could get Soleil's input.
First chapter done! I don't own the song in this chapter or anyone from Scary Godmother's Halloween Spooktakular/Revenge of Jimmy.
I also don't own the song in this chapter, I only own Soleil. In my story, Hannah is eight years old now while Jimmy and the others are 14 since this takes place after Revenge of Jimmy.
The Rougarous part is from Fright Krewe, please read and review, but no flames!
