Summary: After 3 years, the well unsealed. However, it's not the Sengoku Era Kagome's taken to. Wielding strength unrivaled by any other, she's swiftly brought into the Demon Slayer Corps. When Tanjiro showed up, toting his demon sister in that box, she quickly became attached to the siblings. If anything, it only made Sanemi that much more aggravated.

Pairing: Sanemi/Kagome

Chapter One

It'd grown to be a routine for her more than anything. In the aftermath of Naraku's defeat, she'd gone home to her rightful era. Almost immediately after, it seemed as if the well had finally resealed. In turn, it left her stuck in the present era.

A sense of normalcy had been one of the biggest things she'd missed in the glaring expression of total chaos. She'd taken such a thing as a gift in the moment. It wasn't until a few weeks later that she was struck with a feeling of loss. Loss for the friends she'd made, and loss for the habit she'd ingrained in her memory.

Once a month, almost like clockwork, she'd find herself standing before the well in order to check and see if it ever once unsealed. Three years had easily gone by, and Kagome, now nineteen, found it hard to break the habit that'd been built up.

She pulled the door to the wellhouse open, gently trodding down the creaky steps as she walked up to the well. Her hand fell to land on the ledge, carefully brushing along the splintering wood with fond recollection. The very moment she got within reach of the well, there was something she could feel.

Something was different.

Her grip on the well's ledge tightened when she focused on it, but her concentration was swiftly shattered when she felt a breeze coming from the normally stagnant depths. Her eyes widened, and she pulled her hand back as she took a reflexive step back. It was automatic, the way her first memory of getting pulled down the well came back to her. After giving it a few seconds for anything unsavory to come through, something that failed to happen entirely, she stepped back up to it.

Sure enough, the breeze could still be felt funneling up from the black abyss of the well as if it were nothing more than a tunnel. Her grip tightened, soft blue eyes narrowing.

Why now after three years of nothing?

There was that confusion lingering in her mind, but something more swiftly pulled it further back from her focus. There was something telling her to go through it again. After all, wasn't that what she wanted?

The debate between doing it and not was a quickly won one in her mind. She lifted her leg to straddle the lip of the well, gazing down into the abyss. From a shelf within reach, she spotted her retired bow- still set aside with a handful of unused arrows. The logical part of her brain told her to bring them, and she swiftly reached for them, tugging them close to her chest as she brought her other leg over so she was perched with her feet hanging off into the well.

Her next actions were best described as intuitive impulsiveness. She couldn't ignore the instinctual pull. After all, she'd learned that her instincts often knew best long ago.

She pushed herself off the edge, sending her body plummeting into the dark pit. In the following seconds, a warm glow formed around her, somewhat slowing her freefall. It wasn't the usual blue she'd gotten used to. No, this time the glow was white- so much so that it was nearly blinding. She had to shut her eyes to try and block out the brightness of it.

She later opened her eyes when her feet touched the bottom of the well. Out of habit, she tilted her head back as she glanced upwards.

Though the sky overhead looked as it should, Kagome found herself standing frozen at the bottom of the well. It was dark outside, a lingering reminder of how late in the night it was. A strange aura brushed along her senses, and she found herself unable to sense even one thing that seemed to feel familiar. Her brows furrowed as she hesitantly reached a hand up, gripping an overgrown vine and using it to pull her weight up. It was a process she'd grown used to long ago, and she easily made it to the top.

"I don't understand…" Kagome murmured to herself, turning in a complete circle as she took in the blatantly different surroundings. Sure, it'd been three years nearly to the date since she last went down the well, but things couldn't possibly have changed so much.

Right?

As she took in her surroundings, Kagome attempted to latch onto any familiar sort of aura she could detect, but, try as hard as she might, it never came. No matter how far she reached her senses out, she couldn't feel anything that was even remotely familiar.

A feeling of unease began to form like a pit within her chest. It started off as something small, only to swiftly double in size as a different thought was presented to her.

"I'm… not in the right time," she stated. It was the only explanation as to why nothing felt familiar. She had surely gone back into the past, but it wasn't back to the Sengoku era like she used to. This… it was a different point in time, and she had no inkling of an idea as to what it was.

She took a few steps forward before she came to a halt. She glanced back at the well, weighing the option of going back through for a few moments. After giving it some thought, she sighed and turned back ahead of her.

Even if she wanted to, it wasn't possible for her to ignore that lingering pulling feeling slowly flowing through her, hindering her from accepting the way out. She started to walk further away from the well, her gaze occasionally shifting around her as she walked through the forest.

It wasn't much later when an awful aura brushed against her senses. She froze in place, her gaze settling on the direction it seemed to come from. It was approaching fast. There was no denying what it was.

It was a demon, yet…

It felt far different than any demon she'd encountered before. The aura was worse, more intense, yet… odd all at the same time. It wasn't normal by any standard. It felt almost artificial in a way.

It wasn't natural.

She backtracked a step just seconds before it burst through the brush, seemingly aiming right for her. While it was abrupt, it wasn't something she was entirely unfamiliar with. However, before she could do anything, she felt an arm wound around her hips. The demon made contact with the tree behind her as she was swiflty moved out of the way.

Her stupor lasted for only a second before she looked up at the person who'd moved her from the impending attack. Her eyes met a pair of bright red. His hair was warm yellow, with red ends on certain parts. His hand fell away from her as he smiled. In his other hand was a sword.

"You're not hurt, are you?"

She shook her head. Before she could say anything, she heard the demon stagger back up, instantly returning focus in their direction. It lunged, seeming to go for both of them simultaneously.

With a swiftness he couldn't even begin to anticipate from her, she circled around him. Just as he'd moved to react, her open palm greeted the air between her and the demon. There was no warning before it erupted in a blaze of pink flames. The demon stumbled back, fighting futilely to snuff them out. It was an effort that went unrewarded, and the pained yowls soon faded into a stiff silence. Soon, nothing but ash remained, eventually getting carried off by the wind.

He was unable to keep from looking at her- stuck somewhere between utter amazement and sheer perplexity. She'd taken down a demon without so much as batting an eye, and she'd done so easily with no need for a weapon. It was quiet as she turned, reaching up to tuck a lock of raven hair back behind her ear as she looked up at him. Her expression was that of an open book- easy to read and comprehend. She, contrary to him, seemed more confused than anything.

"Quite impressive," Rengoku remarked, sheathing his sword and folding his arms across his chest the following second. "How did you ever manage such a unique skill?"

Kagome craned her head to the side, confusion flickering through her eyes. "I'm a Miko," she responded as if that was the only clarification required. When he still seemed plagued with curiosity, her hand moved to tap at her chin with her index finger. "I used my energy to purify him. It's not all that hard as long as I have my energy." Sure, it'd taken tons of practice, but she'd managed to use her energy without needing a vessel to carry it. She could still use her arrows in such a way, but she wasn't limited to them, either.

It felt strange to hear. In the past, it was common knowledge that Miko's possessed greater strength than they currently do. But it was just that, that was the past. As the years progressed, the need for them slowly decreased, and, as such, their powers began to turn dormant. At the very least, far too dormant to handle a demon without so much as breaking a sweat.

Either way, what a fascinating girl she was! It hit him then that he'd yet to introduce himself or even learn her name.

"Rengoku Kyojuro," he said, offering up the knowledge in an attempt to mend the lack of it. "What may I call you?"

She blinked, her gaze returning to his face. "Higurashi Kagome," she responded, "but just I'd rather just Kagome."

He nodded, offering her a gleaming smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kagome!" he stated.

Kagome nodded, seeming to mirror his thought, just with much less vocalized enthusiasm. "It's nice to meet you, too."

At the very least she meant those words. This time things seemed to go along much smoother than the first time she ever went to the past.

"If you don't mind, I must ask for you to come with me," he stated, holding a hand out towards her. Kagome glanced at it before looking at his face, not bothering to hide the flicker of skepticism that flashed through her eyes. He noticed, and his smile softened some. "You had nothing to fear," he stated in an attempt to soothe any worries she might've had. "It's just I feel it's in the best interest for us both for you to come with me."

"How so?" Kagome craned her head to the side.

"Your abilities alone point to just how strong you are," he remarked. The observation took her by surprise, but in a good way. "There's someone I feel you should meet. I'm sure you'll receive a very warm welcome!" After all, how could she not when she could do what no one else seemed to possess the capability of?

Kagome could sense no ulterior motive behind those words. What he said, in his eyes, was the honest truth. She weighed her options, once more thinking back to the fleeting choice of going back through the well and pretending that none of this ever happened. It was swiftly knocked away, and she nodded as she relented to his offer.

"If that's the case, then sure," she responded. She didn't miss the way he perked up instantly when she agreed. "I'll go meet with them."

Trusting so easily was hardly ever a good choice, however there was something about him that made her sway a bit easier. He felt warm, compassionate, and kind. The better read she got on him, the more it only solidified her good feelings about him.

He meant her no harm, that much was clear.

"I appreciate it very much!" Rengoku responded. Just before she could respond, she yawned. The lateness, paired with the burst of energy she'd used earlier had worn her out, and it was starting to take its toll on her body. When she looked back at him, she noticed the way his gleaming smile had softened with something akin to fondness. He looked very much like a brother looking at their younger sibling. It was abrupt when he turned, crouching some in front of her. Just enough to offer her leverage. "Here, I'll carry you so you can get some rest."

He didn't want to say it, but it was clear on her face that she was tired. He was more than confident in his abilities to keep both of them safe until sunrise, so he had no qualms about her napping during the journey.

Though taken aback, she did eventually relent. She gripped his shoulders with her hands, climbing onto his back. As she did, his arms went around her legs, pulling her closer in a secure grip. A moment later, she moved her hands, curling them around his shoulders as she leaned her head forward some.

The familiarity of it was comforting, in a way. It was different, but, at the same time, it wasn't.

"All right, let us go then!" he exclaimed, moving not long after those words left his mouth. Kagome offered no more than a faint nod of her head in response, but he wasn't fazed. He got the message loud and clear, anyway.

Auroua-chan: Rengoku will be such a big brother figure to Kagome in this story. Honestly, it's fitting.

So, he's taking her to meet with Ubuyashiki. Due to her ability to take care of demons so easily, she'll be a big help to the Demon Slayers, should she stay. A Miko with her strength is unheard of during the current era, as it seems their strength started to decrease over the years. Kagome's strength is a little boosted by the jewel, but she also hasn't lost any of her strength since awakening it.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
