58. How I met all superheroes and the love of my life.
She grabbed the arrow from inside the quiver on her back and aimed, focusing on her target.
- Ready?
- I was born ready big brother! – She smiled.
William pressed a button and a bunch of tennis balls flew around her. She managed to hit all of them and looked victorious at her brother.
- Guess who owns me a Big Belly Burger combo?
- You own us an explanation Mia Danvers Queen!
Oliver and Kara stood at the door of the Training room of the DEO with both their arms crossed. Mia looked at the both of them, clearly annoyed.
- C'mon! Sara brought me here to have the chance to train with the best heroes, when I will actually have the chance to?
- Soon. – Oliver said.
- As much as we love to have our daughter here with us – Kara walked towards Mia and touched her face – We need to make sure you get hold of your powers and abilities. When my powers started to manifest, it was really hard for me. And we're still not sure if you have them all or just your father skills with bows and arrows.
- Talking about your past, will you guys finally tell us? – William said as he approached them.
- Tell you what? – Oliver asked, confused.
- About the League… You know… In the future, you guys are legendary! And even if Mia helped a bit when Crisis came along, thank God for that otherwise dad wouldn't be here, but I didn't. I want to know everyone!
- That's fair. – Mia said and smiled at the both of them. – I want to be part of the team someday, so it would be nice to know more.
Kara and Oliver looked at each other and Kara nodded with her head.
- Before we can properly introduce you two to the other heroes or you can start working with us, even if it's on the future… Yes, we can tell you a few things about it.
William and Mia smiled at each other and sat on an old couch in the corner of the training room. Oliver and Kara sat on chairs in front of them.
- Tell us about the battle of Freeland. That's on the Flash Museum. – William said, his eyes full with excitement.
- Oh… That's when we helped Black Lightning for the first time… - Kara smiled, remembering that day.
THE BATTLE OF FREELAND
Anyssa walked inside Star Labs and looked relieved when she saw her sister and her dad alive and well.
- Ok, this has gone too far. – She said, looking angry at the both of them.
- I'm sorry, but we heard Odell was hiding in Gotham. I needed to go after him.
- And I needed to stop your sister from killing him! – Jefferson said.
- And you two almost got killed by his agents! Nice! – Anyssa looked at the others. – And they are…
- The heroes I told you about. We are a big team now. – Jefferson said – We help each other.
- Your dad called and I ran there – Barry said – We're here to help.
- This bad guy of yours is in Gotham, you said? – Kara asked – Kate's there, she can help us find him.
- And make him know he doesn't get to mess with one of us in a very special way – Oliver looked at Jefferson with determination. – We don't need to kill him… But he doesn't need to know we won't.
- Nice – Jennifer said already liking that team her dad was friends with.
- Ok, I already regret this… - Jefferson said.
Oliver walked slowly towards Jefferson and reached for his hand to shake.
- I died in Crisis. My daughter and my friends brought me back only to become something else. I know I didn't get to fight you many of you back then, and I know I only came back for good when it was all over, I barely know you. But I was given a second chance to come back here, be part of this team and help the best way I can. This is what I am, I don't believe in killing for a long time, and I regret the time I did… But sometimes, to win, we have to be scary. We have to make people believe we will stop them at any cost. Because if we don't, we are doomed.
- I promise you, we will do things the best way we can. – Kara said, standing beside Oliver. – Hope and compassion for all, remember?
- How did you two got together anyways? – Jefferson looked confused at them both, but smiling – You two are so different.
- That's a story for another day – Oliver said as he turned around and looked at everyone in the room. – Did someone warned Kate?
- Yep. Bat-lady is aware – Sara said. – And she's already hunting him. – She told me she will bring him back to Freeland. Meanwhile, we need to go there and stop ASA agents from occupying the city.
- Deep down I hope she finds him soon… She can be scarier than you, Ollie – Barry said.
- Nope, doubt that! – Oliver laughed. – Let's go guys!
They all got to Freeland really soon, Barry and Kara used super speed to get there sooner and check all areas to warn the others about where they needed to be. ASA had taken over the entire city, but they all separated and teams and little by little kicked the agent's asses.
It didn't take long for them to find the ASA headquarters, where the big guys where. Kara used her x ray vision and confirmed who was inside.
- Kate will bring him here? I think I'll go help her, to be faster.
- I'll go with you – Diggle said as he looked at his ring on his finger. – It's time to put this thing to good use.
- Are you handling this thing better? – Oliver asked, worried.
- I think I am. I'm still trying to understand it better, but all I know for now is that I'm able to help way more than I used to. Let's go!
It didn't take long for Kate, Kara and Diggle bring Odell to ASA headquarters. Jennifer ran towards them, dying to punch the hell out of that guy, but Jefferson stopped her.
- Wait… He's hurt.
- I want to hurt him even more!
- Calm down! – Jefferson said.
Kate grabbed the guy by its collar and threw him on the ground. He looked pissed at her.
- You'll pay for this. You can hide behind that bat mask all you want; I'll find out who you are.
- Yeah? I'm waiting… - Kate laughed.
Oliver used one of his tricky arrows to tie Odell down.
- Threaten one of us again and the next go to your eye and I'll be glad to keep doing that until there's any organs left for you to feel pain! – Oliver said, aiming one arrow at him, looking furious.
- Oliver! – Kara said as she looked disapprovingly at him.
Oliver took a deep breath and looked at Kara.
- You know I have to do this.
- You don't need to act this way!
- Yes, I do.
- Can you please stop arguing like a married couple in the middle of a mission? – Barry said.
- At least we don't call each other pet names! – Oliver smiled, looking at Sara and Barry.
- Guys, not the time! And Yes, you do – Alex said – Let's focus!
- All crazy weirdos came to Freeland's rescue, that's cute – Odell said in a weird and creepy way – You don't belong here.
- YOU DON'T BELONG HERE! – Jefferson said; ready to give him a few shocks. – You get out of Freeland NOW! Take your team far away from here.
- The city is safe; it has heroes enough to look after it! – Anyssa said, ready to fight – We have friends that have our back now!
Kara looked at the others and nodded. She flew towards Odell, floating in front of him, with Jennifer floating by her side. Ray stood beside them in his tiny form and J'onn kept staring at him in his Martian form. Nia, Brainy, Kate, Alex, Diggle, Barry, Sara, Mick, Caitlin, Cisco, Laurel, Dinah and Renee stood around him, all suited up and ready to fight the bastard.
- End your occupation now. Call your troops and tell them to go away. And never come back! – Kara said.
- You tell them that yourselves. – Odell smiled and dozens of his agents appeared, shooting to kill.
- Seriously? – Kate looked annoyed as she turned around and started punching and kicking a few of them.
Laurel and Dinah combined their screams to take down five agents while Caitlin frozen a few others. Nia and Brainy combined their powers while Alex watched their back, shooting the agents. Kara, Ray, J'onn, Diggle and Jennifer attacked by air while the others attacked the rest of the agents. Anyssa stood by Odell side, making sure no one would free him and taking down whoever tried. In half an hour, all agents were down, only two standing, but too afraid to do anything.
- You wanted us to tell them, we did. – Alex said, pointing her gun to Odell.
- We are giving you two the chance to surrender and come to the right side – Kara said as she looked at the two standing agents.
- Also, you don't get to hide your ugly ass on my city! – Kate said as she punched Odell in the face.
- I'm sorry dad, I really need to. – Jennifer said as she punched Odell's other cheek, making him bleed. – That's for all you did to me, my family, my friends…
Odell ordered his two agents left to retreat all troops and go away from Freeland.
- If I see your face around here, or any ASA agent, I swear to God, you will regret it! – Jefferson said, giving him one last shock. – This is my final warning!
- You won't have to – Alex said as she smiled at Odell – You committed federal crimes and since I'm a government agent, you now will answer to the DEO for using meta-humans and a hundred of other crimes you committed. – Alex nodded to John.
As soon as it was over, everyone was back in Star Labs. Alex and J'onn were back from dropping Odell at the DEO and assured Jefferson and his daughters the guy was never getting out of there.
- The good thing about being on the same Earth now is that crazy bad guys are way more screwed than before. – Barry said.
- It just would be nice if you lovebirds would keep the fighting at home. – Kate said, taking her mask off.
- We weren't fighting… - Kara smiled awkwardly.
- If I didn't know you all, I would be sure you are married… I'm the same way we my wife sometimes… - Jefferson said, looking at Kara and Oliver.
Everyone looked awkwardly to each other and Kara and Oliver started laughing.
- Married… You're funny – Oliver said.
PRESENT DAY
- But Jefferson is right; you two are way different… How did you guys got together? – William said, looking curious at Kara and Oliver.
- Also… How did Barry and Sara get together? That's a case of really different people getting together. Barry is a ray of sunshine and Sara… Well, she's Sara… - Mia asked.
- One thing at a time, right? – Kara said laughing – I mean… Yes, we were and still are different. But we also had a lot in common. We just found our way to each other. – She said as she grabbed Oliver's hand.
- Cut the small talk, I'm asking for details here… but not too much details. – William said.
- Barry and Sara was a funny case of a disguise in a mission that got too real.
CENTRAL CITY
Sara was visiting her mom on Mother's day when she heard her cell phone only to see a message from Barry asking her to go to Star Labs. As soon as she got there, she looked at the screen of the cortex and saw a familiar face on it.
- It's someone Oliver faced before… Cupid? – She looked at the screen, trying to understand what was happening.
- I know right? Lame name! – Cisco laughed – She's attacking couples here in Central City…
- Oliver told me she did that a few years ago back in Star City… She's not that creative. Also, on mother's day? Nothing's sacred anymore? – Sara crossed her arms, annoyed. – Ok, what we'll do?
- We came up with a plan to make her come to us since she's been quiet for a while. – Barry said – It does including pretending to get married…
- And I said I won't do it. – Frost smiled
- So… You guys were out of option and thought about me? Great! – Sara said.
- Well, we knew you were around… - Ralph said smiling at her.
- Ok, who gets to me my groom?
- Barry! – Cisco said.
- And how do we get her attention? – Sara said, still a bit confused
- I'll hack the media to have the news about your wedding here in Central City and about a private celebration. Then we'll be ready for her. – Cisco said as it was the most obvious thing.
Once Cisco did his thing, Sara's phone wouldn't stop ringing. First, it was her dad asking her what the hell was going on, she told him she would explain later. Laurel called her and asked how could she get married and not tell her, Sara said the same thing. Then, Oliver called to congratulate her and Sara told him to shut up.
- I'm sure people must be freaking out right now… I just hope it works! – Barry said.
- It will… It was my idea – Cisco smiled at them and brought his attention back to the computer. – Ok guys, show time!
Sara and Barry walked on street hand in hand near Jitters, where the news said it was going to be their party.
- You need to sell it. – Cisco said on comms to both of them – C'mon guys!
Sara and Barry looked at each other and Sara gave him a small push, making Barry's chest bump into hers. She put her hands around his neck and looked lovingly at him.
- What are you doing? – Barry asked while smiling.
- I'm selling it… You should as well.
- Oh, right… - Barry whispered, reaching for her neck, bringing her face closer to his.
He gave her a slow kiss, still unsure about what they were doing, but going along with the plan. Sara was caught by surprise but kissed him back, caressing the hair on his neck while the other hand was in his shoulder. Barry used his free hand to bring her closer by the waist, the other hand caressing the back of her neck. He definitely got lost on the moment, deepening the kiss while she kept responding to all his actions. Their tongues battled each other and Sara kissed him back vigorously.
- How cute, two lovebirds about to marry…
Sara and Barry let go, remembering they were in the middle of a mission and stared at Cupid, that aimed a red arrow towards them. Sara acted quickly, jumping high and kicking her hand, making her drop the arrow while Barry used his super speed to take them both to Star Labs. He locked her in his meta-human cell in the pipeline and Sara walked in, smiling at Cupid.
- GET ME OUT! – She yelled, trying to break the glass.
- Only when Argus gets here. You need to go back to prison! – Barry smiled.
- And if you try to escape, we will call Supergirl and she will throw you in space. – Sara waved at her while Barry closed the pipeline.
They stared awkwardly at each other as soon as the door closer behind them, muffing Cupid screams.
- Listen… - Barry started but was interrupted by Sara.
- It's ok… It was part of the mission…
- Yes… It was…
Both of them kept staring at each other in silence. Sara took a step forward and Barry did as well. They looked at each other lips and Sara just couldn't keep her hands to herself, grabbed him by his collar and brought him back to her, kissing him with deep passion. Barry kissed her back, holding her by the waist.
- It was a nice mission – Sara smiled – Maybe we should keep doing it.
- I agree – He smiled back at her, kissing her again.
PRESENT DAY
- Own, that was cute! – William said, smiling as he heard the story.
- I thought the same when he told me – Kara smiled – And since then, they are together.
- And you two? – Mia asked.
- It's funny because you have the same look Jefferson had when he asked us. We were sharing stories about our missions before Crisis and I think we scared him a bit… But I think he got more surprised by the way we got together… - Kara teased, looking at Oliver.
POST BATTLE OF FREELAND
Kara, Kate, Oliver, Barry, Sara, Jefferson and Clark sat at the table on their room in Star Labs hangar, talking.
- I just want to thank you all again. I'm sure you guys were busy, but it meant a lot
- It's ok. We all have our nightmares to deal with, but it's always fun to team up – Barry said.
- It's not fun to have the world ending, Barry… - Oliver said.
- You know what I meant… Getting everyone together, catching up…
- Almost dying… - Sara said.
- For real, this is a regular thing? The world ending? – Jefferson asked, looking worried.
- Well, we had aliens wanting to dominate the world before, they brainwashed us to fight each other, kidnapped us and put us in a shared hallucination and we had to fight our old enemies and stuff… - Barry commented.
- We also got Nazis from another Earth invading. Their leaders were doppelgangers of Kara and I – Oliver said as he scratched his head.
- Oh and when we switched bodies? – Barry asked, excited – It was fun being the Green Arrow…
- It was not fun being the Flash… Your suit is too tight.
- Wait, what? – Jefferson asked, feeling even more lost than before.
- The Monitor was testing us; it was right when we met – Kate said – I was not happy to have to take them out of jail by the way… But look at us now, all friends.
- But we've all been through a few crazy things among our teams… like, a telepathic giant Gorilla trying to take over Central City. – Barry explained
- Or the mother of my ex-boyfriend, Queen of a planet called Daxam, invading Earth and fighting me to control the planet and transform it into her old one…
- And here I thought Freeland was a crazy place… - Jefferson said, trying to absorb all of that information.
- Yep… - Sara gave him thumbs up, laughing. – In the end of the day, it's all worth it.
- I'm glad I met you all – Jefferson laughed with them. – But still… how you two got together? – He pointed at Oliver and Kara.
- Our traumas brought us together… - Kara said as she looked at the table. – I'm glad for it. Hardships make us stronger – She grabbed Oliver's hand, caressing it.
- It was right after the Earth X Crisis. I had a marriage proposal turned down and felt miserable, we also lost a friend on that fight so feelings were all over the place… - Oliver looked at Kara.
- And I had just sent my ex-boyfriend to space, to save his life and when I saw him again, he was married to someone else from the future. It triggered a few traumas I had.
CENTRAL CITY
After Martin Stein's funeral, everyone started to leave. Kara sat in a bench as she waited for Alex to say goodbye to Sara when Oliver sat by her side.
- What a day…
- Tell me about it – She said – It's everything ok?
- Sort of… I mean, we just buried a dear friend… Felicity left… I'm feeling weird. – He looked at her – And you? How are you doing?
- Preparing to go back home and see my ex with his new wife…
- This is bad…
- Yes. So, I understand the weird feeling… I'm just… I don't want to deal with all of that right now. I was almost killed by a Nazi doppelganger; I was never so disgusted to see my face…
- Same. But don't let it get to you. This doppelganger thing is beyond weird, but we are still who we are. They just shared our looks, we are nothing like them.
- I know. I just… I'm overwhelmed if I'm being honest.
- Why don't you stay for a few days?
Kara looked surprised at Oliver. She wasn't expecting an invitation like that, especially not from him.
- Stay here?
- Yes. I can always sleep on the couch. You can be part of team Arrow for a few days, maybe this can help you not feel so weird about your ex…going back there so soon and stuff…
- It's… It's a good idea actually. – She smiled at him.
After telling Alex she would go back in a few days, Kara went to the Arrow bunker to help them with a few missions. It was really late when Oliver and her finally got to his apartment. They ate, she actually ate a lot and he looked surprised at her while giving a bite or two at his sandwich, and went to the living room. Kara sat on the couch, Oliver sat by her side and they started talking about many things. Oliver felt like they had more in common than he expected. Kara noticed Oliver was more broken than he let people notice. And she could relate to that.
- I don't know, I just thought at some point, I felt like I had enough. I started pushing people away, focused only on being Supergirl because I couldn't be both her and Kara Danvers. My parents had to let me go, my adoptive father left, every time I thought I could have someone and be happy, I found out I couldn't…
- I know the feeling… It feels like we don't deserve to be happy, we don't deserve love… Like the lives we live, it doesn't allow us to.
- Exactly.
- When I came back home, after the island, my sister told me that I needed to open up to someone, and I did. And it really helped. After that, a lot happened and I felt like it wasn't working anymore, to let people in, open up… Until now. It's really nice being able to talk to you.
- I can say the same. And, if I'm being honest, I didn't expect you would understand…
- We have more in common than we thought.
Kara smiled as she looked at him, thinking about what he told her. And he was right, they had a lot in common, but at the same time they were so different. It was like pieces of a complicated puzzle, finally fitting. She looked at his lips and started wondering. She had no idea why she was thinking about that at the moment, but could definitely feel him getting closer, reaching for her cheeks, his lips touching hers and she suddenly didn't care. She embraced him as they kissed, Oliver's body covered hers, laying on top of her on the couch. Their kiss started deepening and become more passionate by the second.
PRESENT DAY
- Ok, I said not that much of details… - William looked at Kara and Oliver feeling like he was just traumatized for life.
Mia looked at her parents, thinking about how they had a beautiful story when Kara, William and Oliver were looking scared at her.
- What? – She asked, coming back to reality.
- YOU WERE FLOATING! – William said as he got up from the couch, freaking out.
- Was I? – Mia looked down and stood up in a hurry.
- I think your powers are finally manifesting… - Kara said, smiling as she went to hug Mia.
- YES! – Mia jumped in excitement. – That means I get to train with you guys?
- Not yet, lady. – Oliver smiled at her – Your mom will train you first, to have complete control of your powers. And – He looked at Mia – I asked Cisco if you could help us, you're good at computers William, and I'm proud of you.
- When your sister gets ready to join the team, you'll also join. – Kara said as she felt William hugging her tight.
Kara and Oliver left William and Mia alone in the room as they got called by the team to save the city one more time. Mia looked at her brother and smiled.
- Finally! – She said.
- We'll be part of the Justice League! – William smiled back at his sister.
