62. Family matters
Flowers everywhere.
A long red carpet covered the floor. A bunch of people and their loved ones stood around them.
His best friends were standing next to him, Barry and Diggle. Across him, there was Alex Danvers and Sara Lance.
Everything was perfect. Well, almost perfect but it would be a 100% in a few moments.
While a few guests still settled around the huge church, he decided to check the musicians once again and turned around just to bump into a young blonde woman. She seemed nervous as she looked at him.
- Do you want anything…? Sir?
Oliver nodded with his head. He was too nervous to drink anything right now, but didn't want people to notice it. That girl seemed so familiar, he thought as he looked properly at her.
- I'm sorry, do we know each other?
- No – She said quickly, lowering her face a bit. – Not at all, I'm just a waitress… Congratulations for your wedding, by the way.
- Thank you… - Oliver looked at her, still thinking he knew her from somewhere.
- Can I just tell you something?
- Sure…
- Hold on to the truth, no matter what.
She smiled and turned away. Oliver kept staring at her, feeling confused. What did she mean with that? He wondered. While he was lost in his confusion, the song started and Oliver stared at the door.
Now everything was perfect.
She walked the aisle slowly, smiling and clearly looked emotional, with J'onn by her side, walking her towards him.
- You take care of her! – J'onn said as Kara let go of his arm and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
- I will. I promise – He said as he looked at Kara.
She wore a beautiful simply dress, her hair was half up and half loosen in beautiful curls and a white veil falling over it.
They decided to have a traditional earthly wedding and after it, they would have a kryptonian ceremony, to honor Kara's heritage. A priest said a few words until it was time for them to say their vows. At the corner of the church, the blonde girl observed it all.
- I'm so happy to be here today among friends and loved ones, to celebrate our love. – Kara said as she stared deeply into Oliver's eyes. – And I think we need to thank our friends Sara and Barry for that, it's their entire fault – She teased, making Oliver laugh.
FLASHBACK
Kara got a message from Barry, telling her they were going to hang out and go to the movies since they only saw each other when the world was ending. Kara loved the idea and told him she was going. He asked her to meet them in front of the theater in Star City and Kara confirmed it.
Oliver got the same message from Sara, telling him he couldn't be late or she would kick his ass. Oliver laughed at the message and told her not to worry; the one who was always late was Barry.
Kara got there and waited in from of the movie theater. She was that Oliver was coming after a few minutes and felt relieved. She wasn't from this Earth and was happy to finally see a familiar face.
- Kara? I think you're the first to get here… And Sara told me not to be late… - He looked annoyed at his phone.
- Well, let's wait then… I just hope we don't miss the movie…
After a while, they got a message from Barry telling them that something happened at Star Labs and that he was going to be late. Sara sent a message canceling because her team would have to go back to Napoleon times to fix a problem.
- Well, I guess we can just go inside and wait for Barry there. – Oliver said
- Let's go… He will miss the beginning… - Kara said as she got in and Oliver followed her.
They were in the middle of the movie, when Oliver and Kara looked at each other.
- Barry's not coming either… - He said
- I guess not… - Kara said, adjusting her fake glasses. – Well, I guess we'll just have to enjoy this night… We are already here.
- You're right. Let's go grab some food after the movie?
- Yes! I love food – Kara said as she smiled at Oliver.
- By the way, I think Sara and Barry set us up.
Kara looked at Oliver and stopped to think about it. Sara and Barry both cancelled almost at the same time, and Barry said it was going to be a bunch of them, and obviously it was a lie. Kara lowered her head and let a small laugh.
- I can't believe them…
- Neither can I…
- But… - Kara looked a bit nervously at Oliver – We are already here…
- Yes, we are…
END OF FLASHBACK
- That was a bit obvious – Kara said and they all laughed.
The wedding passed by and Oliver said his beautiful vows that made Kara cry. The priest told them to kiss each other and Kara just couldn't stop smiling. They both approached each other faces and tasted each other's lips slowly. The blonde hiding in the corner, observed everything and a single tear came down her eyes.
2 YEARS LATER
Oliver stared at Dinah, Diggle and Reneé in the bunker while they argued about the best way of dealing with the upcoming Crisis.
- What do you mean by that? – Dinah said a bit confused after Oliver told her and Reneé everything that happened
- I mean that we have to complete this mission in order to save the multiverse. We need to save the multiverse. – He looked serious at her.
- And what about… Does she know? – Reneé asked.
Oliver thought for a while, every time someone mentioned the fact that he didn't told his wife that was living apart from him, on her Earth, because she was pissed with him that her Earth was at risk, because he had no idea how to do it to be honest.
- Not yet…
- Oliver! – Dinah said
- I know. I just… How can I tell her I will never come back? I can't make her suffer…
- She has the right to know her Earth is in danger. – Diggle said, crossing his arms
- She will… I just…
A noise was heard and they all turned around to see what was happening. A big white light exploded around them and suddenly, out of nowhere, a blonde and a dark haired guy stood before them, looking like they were crying and confused as hell.
- Dad? – The ark haired guy said as he looked at Oliver.
- What? – The blonde girl looked scared and confused. She stared at Oliver and didn't know what to do. – Dad?
Oliver stared at them, wondering what the hell was going on. He suddenly realized that the dark haired guy was a grown William. But how could this be possible? He wondered. And the blonde, he remembered her from his wedding. Was she… His daughter? Did he and Kara have a daughter?
- William? – He asked and the guy ran to hug him tight.
- Yes. – He said, feeling Oliver hug him – It's me, dad.
- And I'm… - The blonde said, unsure of what to do. – I'm your daughter… Mia.
- Mia? – Oliver looked at her with tears in his eyes.
Oliver kept staring at her and she didn't move. Dinah, Reneé and Diggle couldn't believe what they were seeing.
- How's that possible? – Diggle looked like he had seen a ghost – I'm almost too afraid to ask, but…
- I think… - William looked around and remembered the bunker exactly as it was when he was a kid – I think we're in the past…
- A white light exploded around us, and now we're here – Mia said
Later that day, Oliver brought Mia and William to stay with him while they were stuck in the past with no way of coming back to their time. He was used to this kind of crazy stuff since Barry came into his life, his friend The Flash. Since then, a lot happened. He knew about time travels, multiple Earths, he was married to an alien. They weren't living together now, but still. But now, everything was different. A few months ago he brought young William to his grandparents, because the boy wanted to spend some time with them, away from Star City madness. And now, he was staring at his adult son and his daughter he had no idea he would have someday. He didn't even know if things would be ok with Kara again, he could only hope, especially with the Crisis coming.
Oliver and William hugged as William came out to him. He couldn't be more proud of him, and William had a few tears coming down his eyes. Mia walked towards them in the couch, and kept staring looking at Oliver. He let William go and looked back at her, with worry.
- It's everything ok?
- Yes, is… Actually it isn't…
- Mia – William looked at her with warning eyes
- Screw it, ok? I know that is dangerous for people to know their future, but our future sucks! I can't just stay here, hoping it all happens as it did before. Not after all that happened!
- Barry always warned me about this, but I'll ask anyways… What happened? – Oliver looked at the both of them – Why does your future sucks?
- Because it does… - Mia walked from one side to the other, feeling angry and impatient – I spent my whole life mad at you, hating you because I didn't get to know you, to see you…
- Why did you hate me?
- Mom was really pissed at you when she found out about your deal with the weird god guy. You guys had a huge fight. Mom was already pregnant with me when you left for your mission. She found out afterwards, but she never got the chance to tell you, because you vanished. They said you died in this mission, and all I could think about was the fact that you abandoned your family to be a hero. Once I was older, I came back to Star City and it was just awful, crime everywhere. I knew I had a brother, mom told me, but she told me no one could ever find William. So I tried, and I found him. And we teamed up to save the city… Then I met Nora Allen, daughter of Barry and Sara… She told me it was possible for me to visit the past if I wanted to, and I asked for her help to see your wedding.
- You are the waitress that bumped on me that day… - Oliver looked at her with shock in his eyes. Now he knew why she was so familiar.
- I couldn't tell you who I was so I just kept my distance. When I went back to my time, there was a huge fight and Nora ended up dead in my arms. That's when we showed up here… So yeah, future sucks!
Oliver got up from the couch and hugged Mia. He was not a hugger himself, but he could make an exception for his daughter. She clearly suffered enough her whole life and he was just glad he could see her now.
- Maybe we can change things for the better, this time around… - William said, looking hopeful at the both of them.
- There's one more thing… - Mia said as she let her father go. She took two steps backwards and started floating. – I have mom's powers… I found out recently, when this threat appeared on Star City… But I also have her weakness, so a lot of bad things also happened…
- She almost died… - William said as Oliver still looked in shock.
- Anyways, we are here now… - Mia said as she crossed her arms again – We need to change things, Nora can't be dead. And… You need to fix things with mom. She needs you right now. I know you're about to go to Russia, mom heard about something that happened there… So before you do anything, go to her and fix things!
Oliver was trying to process all that information he got at once. Kara was pregnant, she needed him. She never had the opportunity to tell him about it because they were appart, and he died before they could mend everything. Mia was right, he had to fix it.
- We are also going to Russia with you. – Mia said.
- No, no way…it's dangerous and… - Oliver felt a headache coming and couldn't do anything about it.
- I have mom's powers, I can help.
- And I'm really good with computers, I can also help – William raised his hand, excited with the opportunity of helping his dad and sister.
Oliver stared at both of his kids and nodded with his head. Deep down, she was right; he would need all the help he could have at this point. It would also give him an opportunity to spend more time with them.
Kara was nervously walking from one side to the other while Alex tried to calm her down. They just found out about Leviathan, things were crazier than ever and Kara was still missing Oliver.
- Maybe you should call him?
- Alex, I tried. Also, we need to focus on Leviathan…
- There's no need to call me… I'm here
Kara froze as she stared at Oliver. Her heart missed a beat and she took a deep breath, not knowing exactly what to do. She was still pissed at him, but seeing him now, it was something that she couldn't help but feel happy with. It was actually a mess of feelings inside of her. Then, she looked at William and Mia; feeling confused about whom they were and what it was going on.
- Hi Kara… - William waved at her – It's me, William.
- William? – Kara looked shocked.
- And I'm… Mia, your daughter – Mia said as she took two steps forward, not sure if she should hug Kara or keep her distance.
- I… what? – Kara started to feel dizzy and looked at Alex that helped her sit down in a chair.
- They came from the future, to change things. – Oliver said as he approached Kara.
Alex took a few steps backwards, still staring at them all and also as confused as Kara looked. Oliver sat beside Kara and held her hand.
- I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't tell you what was really going on, I was so worried about you and I didn't want to hurt you… Please, forgive me.
- You ended up hurting me anyways, Oliver. And… What do you mean about needing to change things?
- I made a deal with the Monitor. To save you and Barry last year. You two were supposed to die, and I couldn't let this happen. So I made a deal with him and he came to collect.
- What did you do, Oliver?
- I agreed to help him. There is a crisis coming…
- Crisis? – Kara looked at him, not knowing if she was worried, confused or angry… Or all at once.
- The multiverse is in danger. The Monitor can stop this and he needed me to do some stuff for him, so he would be able to.
- And do you trust this guy? Oliver, remember what he did…
- I know. He was testing all of us. He needed to be sure we all could handle it. Kara, I saw it with my own eyes, Earth 2 was destroyed. I saw all those people die…
Kara had tears in her eyes and looked at Mia. She couldn't believe she had such a beautiful daughter. Kara stood up and walked towards her. She grabbed her hand and smiled.
- You're so beautiful…
- Mom! – Mia hugged Kara and started to cry. – I'm sorry I'll make you so mad in the future.
- Maybe things can be different now – Kara said as she caressed Mia's hair. – Tell me about you… And your life…
Mia talked to Kara about her life, about what happened, her powers manifesting recently, about everything she could. Kara felt a mix of emotions she could never even try to explain. Oliver got up and stood before Kara.
- I need to go to Russia… Because of the mission…
- I want to help…
- Mom, you can't. Alex will need your help. But I will go with dad, William will too.
- It's ok. – Oliver said looking into Kara's eyes.
There was a brief moment of silence. Mia, Alex and William left the room so Oliver and Kara could talk. There were a lot of things they needed to solve before Oliver had to go and now it was the perfect moment for it, that's why they came to Earth 38 in the first place.
- So… You made a deal to save my life and didn't tell me about it… - Kara looked serious at him. – And now you are stuck with a guy I can't trust and Rao knows what will happen…
- I'm sorry I didn't tell you before, but I had to do something… Also, Mia told me I needed to tell you everything, so I'm doing it now. There's one more thing…
- What?
- The Monitor told me I don't survive this crisis. For us to save the multiverse, I must die.
- No! I won't let you die. We'll find another way.
- There's no point…
- Yes, there is! Oliver, you can't give up. We'll deal with whatever Crisis we have to, and you won't die. I refuse to believe that.
- Kara, its ok… I just want you to know that I love you, and that I regret not telling you all of this sooner.
Kara took a deep breath and reached for Oliver's face, bringing her lips to his, giving him a slow kiss. She missed it, kissing him. Her heart was beating so fast now, it felt like it would come out of her chest. Oliver kissed her back with want, feeling like he could go back in time just so he wouldn't waste the precious time he had left with Kara.
- I forgive you – Kara said. – But you need to be honest with me about everything from now on; you don't need to protect my feelings. I'm Supergirl, I can handle it.
- I know that. I love you.
- I love you. And you won't die! – She kissed him again. – I've missed you.
- I've missed you too – He said, kissing her one more time. - I love you.
A FEW MONTHS LATER
Lian Yu.
They finally made it. Everything was going according to their plans. They managed to deliver everything that Monitor said he needed, the first part of the mission was finally over. William said his goodbyes to Oliver and Team Arrow and left to wait for Mia so they could go back to their time.
Mia took a look around the place, trying to imagine all horrors her dad went through when he was stranded there in the past. She stared at him, not wanting the moment to be over. She knew she had to go back but she didn't want to. Her eyes were filled of tears that she fought hard to not let them fall.
- I spent a long time angry at this place. – Oliver said as he looked around.
- But you're not anymore? – Mia asked.
- I still am a bit. But there are no stories about the Green Arrow to tell, if I don't mention Lian Yu. I wouldn't be here now, looking at my daughter.
- Thanks for letting me be part of your story. Even if it was just for a while – Mia said, giving up fighting, letting the tears fall down her cheeks.
- Something tells me you'll create your own stories, Mia
Mia couldn't hold back anymore and ran to hug her father. Those last few months were the best of her life, she got to see her dad, learn from him, learn from her mother and make sure they mended things, even if it was just a bit. She was sure the future would be different now, maybe her friend would be alive as well, she could only hope for it.
There was a white light exploding around them, the skies went red and Oliver and Mia looked up, knowing what that meant. At least Oliver did, but Mia could imagine it.
- Lyla? – Oliver looked back, noticing his old friend was now dressing something different. She also looked like she was someone else.
- Not anymore. I'm Harbinger now. The Crisis has begun!
- Ok, but please, take my children back to their timeline.
- Mia can't. – Lyla said – She's a big part in this Crisis.
- What?
- I can't explain it now – Lyla said – I will bring William to the future. – She nodded at Oliver and they disappeared from the island.
EARTH 38
- They're all gone… - Kara said looking at the screen where it showed that Argo was gone forever. There was no signal anymore.
- We will find out what is going on – Alex said as she put her hand on Kara's shoulder, trying to comfort her sister.
Alex, J'onn, Kara and Brainy turned around and saw a few people appearing in front of them: Sara, Ray, Lyla, Lois, Clark, Barry, Oliver, Kate and her daughter, Mia.
Kara ran towards Clark and Lois to hug them, feeling a bit of relief.
- I'm glad you're ok – She told them and then, Clark explained her everything that happened in Argo.
- I'm sorry we couldn't save her – He said as he let her go.
Kara looked deeply sad but just took a deep breath. She was in a lot of pain, but would have to hold on because the world needed her right now.
Kara looked to their side and ran to hug Mia and Oliver. Kate looked around, confused and stared at Kara.
- Where are we?
- On Earth 38.
- There's a… - Lyla was about to say something when Kate punched her in the jaw.
- That rabbit was about to talk!
- The woman speaks to rabbits! – Brainy whispered to J'onn.
- Listen, if you're here is because we need you.
- But I don't know these people. – Kate said, still not trusting that Lyla woman.
- But you know me. And I trust everyone in this room with my life, including you. – Kara smiled at her and Kate nodded.
- I'm Kate Kane!
- It all makes sense now… - Oliver whispered to Mia that just smiled at her father's expression.
- I'm Oliver and Kara's daughter, Mia.
- Wow, you have a daughter? – Barry asked, looking confused at Oliver
- I'll explain later – Oliver said, looking at Barry and Sara that also gave him a confused look.
Brainy went with Lois and Sara to find Jonathan Kent in Earth 16, in the future while the others spread around to do something to help. While they waited for more instructions from Lyla, Kara nodded at Oliver, inside one of the DEO rooms.
- I think it's time. – He said, hugging Kara.
- Yes.
- Were you two looking for me? – Mia said as she got inside the room and smiled, seeing her parents hugging.
- Yes, we have something for you. – Kara said as she smiled at her daughter.
- What is it?
- You'll have to open and see it – Oliver said while Mia stood before a huge trunk.
Inside of the trunk, there was something that looked like a super suit. She took it, to have a better look. It had black pants, a dark green jacket with a dark red S and an arrow crossing it on the chest.
- Cisco made it, but we asked Brainy to add tech on the shoulders, so that a cape can be activated in case you ever need to fly. – Kara smiled, looking proudly at Mia.
- I can't believe I have my own suit… I can't… I can't wear this…
- Yes, you can. You deserve it – Oliver said, also smiling at Mia.
- I can't be Black Star anymore…
- Well, I guess you need a new name, then. – Oliver looked at Kara
- What about… Super Arrow? – Kara said as she looked at Mia's excitement.
- A combination of two great heroes – Mia said as she felt tears coming down her face once again – I love it.
The three of them hugged. Mia stared at them and took her cell phone from her jacket.
- I know it sounds silly, but… Can we take a selfie? The three of us? I don't have any pictures with dad and… I want to keep this moment forever with me…
- Sure, honey – Kara said as Oliver came closer and Mia took a selfie of them, all smiles.
THE NEXT DAY
All heroes had been fighting for more than 24 hours now, all of them felt exhausted but they couldn't expect what happened, to happen the way it did. They were all battling shadow demons, to protect Kara's Earth while J'onn, Alex and the others tried to save its people, with ships going through the portal Lena and Alex built. It felt like a lost battle since there was so many of them. The Monitor told him to save their energy for the next battle. Mia refused to leave, just like her dad, Kara, Barry, Sara and the others. The Monitor started to take one by one away from there, but Oliver fought him, making it impossible for him to stop Oliver from what he was about to do.
Oliver noticed he had no arrows left and there was no way he would survive that, but at least, he would save as many people as he could.
He closed his eyes and ran to the demons.
At the Arrow bunker, Mia was desperate, walking from one side to the other. Kara tried to calm her down, without success. The others looked around, also desperate because there was no news about Oliver and what was happening, until the Monitor showed up with Oliver's body full of bruises and bloody.
- Dad? – Mia ran towards the table the Monitor laid Oliver in – What happened?
- His death wasn't supposed to be like this. This is not what I've saw for him. – The Monitor said, looking confused and trying to understand what was going on, because this was definitely not the way he saw Oliver Queen dying. – His sacrifice saved one million souls.
- Oliver? – Kara said as she approached the table, crying – Why did you do this?
- I had amazing times with you Kara – Oliver said with some difficulty – I couldn't let you lose your people, your loved ones, and your world. I had to try and save it so you could have many more amazing times, even if it was without me.
- You need to save your breath…
- Kara… - Oliver blinked and stared at her, feeling dizzy – I love you…. Mia?
- Yes, dad? – Mia said as she came to her mother side.
- Keep me in your heart, ok?
- Ok.
They were all having a hard time not letting tears take over. Barry and Sara hugged all the time while Oliver was talking to Kara and Mia. They heard Oliver calling for them and approached the table. Sara couldn't look at her friend like that without bailing her eyes out.
- Sara, Barry? Please take care of my family… I trust you. I love you.
- Oliver… - Sara said, not being able to hold back the tears anymore. She rested her face in Barry's shoulders and cried nonstop.
Kara noticed Oliver just looked up and she knew he was gone. She rested her forehead in his, remembering all the great times they had together. She gave him a kiss on the lips and went to hug Mia.
A WEEK LATER
Kara stared at the picture that Mia took before, of her, Oliver and Mia hugging each other, as a family. She loved that picture so much, it made her heart ache. She missed Oliver every single day. She looked back and noticed J'onn staring at her.
- I think is time. I kept this picture from Mia for so long… But she needs to know it all. She needs to wake up and remember her time with her dad. We need to go to the future and wake her up.
- I'll go. You just wait here. I'll bring Mia to you. She deserves the chance to say goodbye to her father one last time.
- Thank you, J'onn.
After the funeral, Mia walked closer to Kara after everyone hugged her and gave her their condolences.
- I miss him. – Mia said, hugging her mother.
- I miss him too.
- I was really pissed at J'onn when he woke me but… I understood it all, and I'm so glad I had these moments with him… I'm glad I got to meet him somehow.
- He sacrificed himself so we could have a better life. A better world.
- It's all one thing now, right? One Earth.
- Yes, it is. I see it as a blessing. A blessing he made it possible. And now we get to keep saving the world when it needs and counting on each other… Including you, Super Arrow. I know the future is in great hands with you.
Mia smiled and hugged her mom once again. She looked at the picture her mom held.
- I'm glad we could have these few moments together, as a family.
- So am I. Your dad is not really gone; you know?
- What do you mean? – Mia looked confused at her mom.
- He lives inside of us. In our hearts.
