Chapter Summary: Prompt by SuperarrowRoLoLover: It's kind of like mid season one arrow so he's already established and ppl know him but he's still the hood. I was thinking kara is kind of like s1 laurel with the hood, just a reporter instead of a lawyer. Also there's none of the sister gambit cheating drama that laurel had, like kara was oliver's lifelong friend they never dated. Then she and oliver go on a first date and she finds out shortly after. You can clean it up but that was my baseline idea.
.
70. Only You
Kara walked from one side to the other, in the living room of her apartment, having a million thoughts at once. She remembered when her best friend Oliver Queen came back after being 5 years presumed dead and happy she was to see him healthy, standing in front of her with that big smile of his. She also remembered how her life turned upside down while he was gone, with her becoming Supergirl and a hero to the whole Starling City.
She thought about everything that her best friend didn't know about her, how she wasn't even from this planet, but she knew she couldn't tell him, because she needed to protect him, especially when she found out that other aliens escaped and wanted revenge because of what her mom did to them in the past. She felt guilty about not telling everything for a long time, but now, it has been 2 weeks that Oliver came back, and she felt like he would be able to handle it.
- It is time! – She whispered as she stared at her reflection in the mirror, checking out her outfit. She was feeling really nervous about meeting Oliver for dinner. – It's just about your secret, nothing else. – She said trying to convince herself of something she wasn't even sure what.
She got to the restaurant just in time, and met him already on the table. He looked extremely handsome that night, but she decided she wasn't going to think about that, at least for that moment.
- I'm so glad to see you – She said, hugging him before sitting down.
- I saw you this morning…
- I know… - She laughed, making him laugh – Is just that… Those 5 years were really hard, it still feels like a dream, having you back and alive…
- I know… It feels like a dream to be sleeping in my own bed… - He smiled back at her.
It was a really good dinner, Kara thought. Besides the food being wonderful, as always, it was really nice to talk about random things that Oliver missed all of those years, it felt really good, until they reached the vigilante topic and Kara felt nervous all over again.
- All I'm saying is… I understand that he does a good job – Kara said – I just think his methods are a bit…extreme.
- I'm sorry, but I think they are justified…
- How so?
- I mean… We need to consider that the guy must have been through a lot. We don't know why he responds the way he does, why he acts the way he acts. No one does what he does out of nowhere.
- Well, a nice therapy wouldn't do any harm. – Kara smiled, finishing her drink.
She took a deep breath, staring at her glass and Oliver noticed something was off with her. She wouldn't stop twisting her fingers together, as if something was really worrying her.
- Is everything ok?
- Yes… Is just… - Kara thought about telling him, but she decided it was better if they talked in a private place, only the two of them. The risk of being heard in the restaurant was too high. She thought about the first thing that she could answer that would be believable, at least for now. – I'm working on a piece about a guy that just got released from jail… Cyrus Vanch.
- What? – Oliver looked worried at her the moment he heard that name. – Kara, please be careful… This guy is dangerous. You could be in danger right now…
- Is ok, I can take care of myself…
- Not with this guy… Promise me you'll be careful?
- Oliver… - Kara said but noticed Oliver serious face and nodded with her head. Once he could learn about her, he wouldn't worry that much, she thought. – Ok. I will.
Oliver stared in relief at Kara, knowing that she would try her best to do the best job she could ever do, but at least she would be careful. And, he would keep an eye on things just in case. He would also have a word with Laurel, his lawyer friend that was involved in this case. He knew this guy was really dangerous and he could never forgive himself if anything happened to Kara because of it. He heard his phone beeping and stared at the screen, knowing he would once again have to come up with some excuse and lie to his best friend, but it was for the best.
- I have to go now, I'm so sorry – He said while taking money to pay for the bill – Please, let me. I know you hate when I do this, but I'm leaving earlier than expected, is the least I can do… - He said, stopping her from helping him pay.
- Oliver, you know I hate this…
- I know… But I feel bad enough having to leave now. I wanted to talk more, and hang out more… Can we watch a movie or something later?
Kara looked at him, knowing he wouldn't let it go, so she gave up and let him pay the dinner bill. She crossed her arms, thinking about what he said, feeling happy he wanted to spend more time with her. She stared at him, having the best of the ideas.
- My place at 10. Bring your famous chili. I'll bring the movie. And the popcorn.
- Ok. Deal. – Oliver said leaving in a rush.
Kara thought about how every time they met since he came back, he was always leaving in a rush, and giving really lame excuses. This time around there wasn't any excuses but she could see in his face he was desperate to leave, like it was a matter of life and death. She also remembered she also had to leave in a rush multiple times and come up with some lame excuses, because she had no time to think properly about something convincing enough.
- I wonder… - She started to think as she left the restaurant – No… I guess not. But maybe…
Some ideas were crossing her mind and she was definitely going to investigate that later. Something told her that her best friend had more under his sleeve than he was showing.
Laurel stood waiting in the Verdant's rooftop. She had a file on her hands and looked around nervously; trying to make sure no one had followed her.
- Do you have it?
She heard a deep voice asking and turned around, smiling.
- You're late! – She said as she reached the file to the hooded figure that stood in the shadows, as usual.
- I'm here now. Let me see it – He said as she stepped closer, giving him the file and he opened it.
- It's all I got about him. My dad asked me to take the case and gave me all SCPD had on the guy. I thought our mutual journalist friend would be happy with the info…
- Laurel, this is really dangerous. – He said as he finished reading the file – Did you give her any information that's here?
- She asked me earlier, I told her I would see what I could do.
- No. You can't give this to her and she needs to pick another subject. The guy had other 2 people killed. I can't let her risk her life like this, and neither can you risk your life Laurel. Leave this case to another lawyer, please, and let me handle it.
- No. I won't stop doing my job because you think is too dangerous, and neither won't Kara. I told her it was dangerous, she told me she could handle it and I trust her. I…
Sirens sounds started to be heard closer and closer, and Oliver stared in shock at Laurel. Was all of that a trap? Was she once again leading the police to him? A loud bang was heard in the rooftop door and both Laurel and Oliver stared at Quentin Lance and his team, in shock.
- I swear I had nothing to do with this… - Laurel said as she stared with fury in her eyes – Dad, did you followed me?
- Sorry sweetheart… I finally got his ass! – Quentin pointed a gun towards Oliver and all cops surrounded both Oliver and Laurel.
Oliver stared annoyed at the situation, trying to think about something fast. He had no idea what to do, because the last time this happened, he planned it. Now, it got him by surprise and he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to escape.
Something flew fast in the sky, a red and blue blur and before Oliver could blink, he was being lifted, whatever it was grabbed him and flew away from the scene. The last thing he saw was Laurel smiling looking like she was relieved or something. It got him feeling even more confused than he already was.
Once he got back to the ground, he looked up and a blonde woman in a red skirt and blue suit, with a red cape was staring down at him.
- You're… Supergirl…
- You're welcome! – She said, flying away from there before Oliver could say another word.
Oliver kept staring up, feeling a mix of confusion and surprise. He have heard about the blonde super hero flying around and saving people since he went missing, and he never met her before, so he was a bit shocked she was real. There was a lot of people adoring her and praising her, but he had never seen her in action, just on TV, and before, he was sure it was some trick or something. People couldn't fly. But he had proof now he was wrong, and it got him even more curious about her.
Oliver went home to get ready to go to Kara's place and to make his chili to bring her, still thinking about everything that happened that night. He was determined to ask her to drop the piece she was working on after reading that file Laurel gave him before. He was sure he would never be able to forgive himself if she had the same fate those 2 people on the file had, and he was even more sure he wasn't about to let that happen.
Kara started the day feeling really happy and nervous at the same time but now she was just feeling anxious. She wanted to tell Oliver so he wouldn't worry about her, but at the same time, she feared that wouldn't be a good idea, for many reasons. One of them was the fact that she decided to focus on the weird things she had noticed about him ever since he came back, and after that moment on the rooftop, where she prevented the Hood from being arrested, something about the look the masked vigilante gave her, made her be even surer of things. She couldn't ruin their night like this, so she decided she would do her best to let it go for the night and just enjoy Oliver's company. When the right time comes, she would talk to him. And maybe tell him her secret.
Oliver got to Kara's place just in time and had a big smile on his face when she opened the door. She had a cute light yellow skirt and a white tank top on, her beautiful hair was half up and she adjusted her glasses as soon as she saw him.
- Come in – She smiled – Yes, chili! – She said as she saw the bowl on his hand. – The popcorn is on the table. I picked a nice comedy movie, we need to laugh more.
- Couldn't agree more! – He smiled as she closed the door behind him.
- Make yourself comfortable. – She said as she walked around the place totally barefoot.
Oliver took his shoes off, already feeling at home, just like old times. He really missed those small moments with Kara.
- You look worried. Why are you worried? – Kara said after she put the bowl of chili on the dining table.
- I'm worried about the case…
- The Vaunch case? Why are you worried about it?
- I just heard some stuff… I'm really worried about you, Kara. Are you sure you can't let it go?
- I'm sure. I'll be fine. We've talked about it. Is my career, I can't just let it go Oliver.
- I know… I just… I've heard about what happened to the people that investigated him before.
- Nothing will happen to me.
- Kara, how can you be so sure?
- Why don't you trust me?
- I trust you. – Oliver said taking a few steps closer to her. He knew she was getting pissed at him, but he couldn't just ignore the fact she was putting herself in danger – I'm just not willing to bet your life on it. I wouldn't forgive myself if anything happen to you, so I had to tell you, to ask you to please consider it.
- Oliver, nothing will happen to me. I promise you.
- How can you promise me something you can't be sure if it will happen or not.
- Because I'm Supergirl!
Oliver looked startled at Kara.
- How… I mean… What? How are you…? Supergirl?
- Like this…
She said as she lifted from the ground and flew around him in super speed. She changed fast into Supergirl, and then back to Kara Danvers. Oliver sat on the couch, trying to process what was happening. His best friend was the mysterious blonde that saved his ass from the cops earlier.
- Hum… I also know you're the Hood. Since we're sharing secrets…
Oliver just looked at her, not knowing for sure what to say. It was too much even for him. He tried to organize his thoughts.
- Why did you keep this? That you're Supergirl?
- Why did you kept you're the Hood from me? – She said as she sat beside him on the couch.
- To protect you.
- There's your answer.
Oliver kept thinking about it. He was so worried about protecting her, and she was doing the same for him all this time. That's why she was so sure she would be fine doing the piece about Cyrus Vaunch, because she had super powers, she could handle it.
- I need some air… - Oliver said as he left her apartment, leaving Kara confused and even more anxious.
Was he mad at her? If that was the case, it was really unfair because he did the same, so she had every right to be mad with him as well, she thought. She had a feeling it wasn't like that but she couldn't help but wonder. And deep down, she felt happy, because she finally could open up to someone other than her sister, who lived in National City. And he had the same life she had, she felt like someone would finally understand her.
Half an hour later, Kara heard a knock on her door and when she opened, she saw Oliver staring at her.
- I'm sorry. – He said. – I just… It's a lot to process.
- I know. It was a lot for me too – Kara said as Oliver walked back to the couch and sat down. She walked towards him and sat next to him, grabbing his hand with hers. – I mean, I judged you… and I have no idea what happened to you on that island, and I know you told me before that you didn't like to talk about it, but now I guess things makes a bit sense. The moment you came back, the Hood showed up. And even if I still think you're too extreme, you were doing some good to the city…
- I'm glad I can finally talk to someone about it, and I promise you I will tell you everything. I just need to know… How? I mean, I can assure you my motives are not altruistic. I feel guilty because of my father did to the city, and I'm only trying to right his wrongs. But you… You can fly. You have super powers and you use them for good. I've heard about you before, I just didn't think you were real. Because I couldn't believe someone would be that powerful and just help others like this…
- Oliver, stop. You might have your reasons, and you don't even realize it, but you help a lot of people too. I saw the Hood helping stop a gang the other day, I saw the Hood catching criminals around the city. Something that wasn't your pattern at first. I've been keeping an eye on the Hood since day one, you k now? I know you have been after people connected to Queen Consolidated and your father.
- You know?
- Just that. That's all I got from my research… Reporter, hello! – Kara smiled – But, the thing is, you are more than some guy wanting revenge.
- Thank you. – Oliver said
- And about me… Well… I didn't know how to tell you this, I was actually nervous about it… About how you would take this because…
- Kara. Whatever it is, I can handle, don't worry. Is your turn to trust me now – Oliver smiled, caressing her hands.
- I'm an alien.
Oliver looked at her, like he was waiting for her to tell him she was joking, but it never happened. So she wasn't kidding and now he understood why she was nervous and anxious about telling him this. Not everyone hear their best friend is an alien with super powers and keep it cool. He thought about how it must have for her, having to hide from everyone, she had to grow up feeling an outsider. He caressed her hands and smiled.
- You're the same Kara to me. – He said. – The difference is that now I know you're a super hero.
- You… You're ok with it?
- Why wouldn't I? Ok, you're not from around… So what? You're still the same beautiful and kind Kara I've know since childhood, the same one that stood by my side when I needed the most, that helped me escape cops today. I would never look at you in a different way just because you're an alien, Kara.
Kara's eyes filled with tears and she wanted to cry from happiness, because she was really scared to tell him. She smiled back at him and started to tell him about stuff she was dying to share with someone she trusted.
- I'm from a planet named Krypton. My parents sent me in a pod, with my cousin that was just a baby, when the planet was about to explode.
- Your planet exploded?
- Yes. I saw it from my pod.
- Kara… - Oliver said as he hugged her. He couldn't imagine what she went through, and being so young. She was really stronger than he could possibly imagine.
- Thank you. – Kara said as she let go of his arms, but kept close – My pod got stuck for many years. 24 years to be more exact. When I got here, I was still 13 years old. It was when my cousin found me and brought me to the Danvers Family. When I met you.
- I remember… You were so shy and scared of everything… Now it all makes sense.
- Things got a bit worse when we moved to Midvale. Keeping in touch with you helped me a lot, because school was scary and I was terrified someone would find out about me. After college I moved with my sister to National City and I remember seeing the news about you and feeling devastated. I felt like I should have known and done something…
- I was in an island in the North China Sea; there was no way you could have possibly known.
- But back then, I felt like I could. And it was what made me see that I could be doing something for other people, that I had my powers and I couldn't just stand by and watch the world suffering. That's when my sister's plane suffered the accident, and I revealed myself to the world.
- Wow… Kara this is… huge. – Oliver said. – I'm really proud of you.
- As you know, I've got the offer to the Starling City Gazette and came back 2 months before you came back. And I've been acting as Supergirl here since then. – Kara took a deep breath, letting it all out at once – It feels wonderful to finally be able to share all of this with you. I've always felt guilty about lying to you and hiding who I really was…
- You don't have to feel guilty; I had to do the same thing. I understand why better than anyone. And I feel really bad that I couldn't have been there for you when you needed… I felt destroyed when you moved away.
- You were lost on an island, I understand – She teased
- You know, I had a crush on you back then? Before you moved?
- Really? – Kara looked surprised at him. Surprised because she knew what it was like. She still knew.
- Yes. – Oliver felt his heart skipping a bit once he realized what he just told her. It was literally the case of talking without thinking. It made him feel nervous out of sudden – You were always special to me, Kara Danvers – and now he wasn't caring anymore about what came out of his mouth, he just felt the need of telling her everything.
- You were especial to me too, you're still are.
- And I know what you just told me is huge. I know it must have been really hard for you to talk about it. And I promise you I will tell you about the island and everything… Because I wasn't just on the island the 5 years I've been gone.
- Wow…
- Yes. There's a lot of history for me to tell you. I just need to process it all, I still have nightmares… I still feel like I was there, fighting to survive.
- Oliver, you don't need to tell me anything now. Like I've said, is great to finally be able to talk to someone about what I've been trough, especially with someone that understands me.
- That's exactly why I want to tell you everything. Because you understand me. Even before knowing all of this, you always did. And I appreciate you just told me your story.
- I think we're Super friends now… - Kara teased, making Oliver laugh.
Oliver didn't notice but he was still caressing her hands. His hands went up her arms, ending on her cheeks. She was blushing and he found it adorable. His face approached hers, their lips almost touching as they stared deeply at each other.
- I was hoping to be more than that, actually… - He whispered, throwing caution out of the window.
Kara felt like her heart was going to jump out of her chest now. She smiled, listening to his words and feeling her cheeks burning even more, now she was sure she was all red.
- I'm ok with that. – She whispered back, as his lips finally touched hers and she gave into his kiss like she has always dreamed of. And it was exactly as she imagined.
Just perfect.
