Author's note:
Hello there. For those who followed me from my other story of Skyrim, I'm very sorry for my long absent. IRL problems.
I've got a new computer now, and I also deal with my problems for now, so I'm good to continue my journey to write fanfiction.
Thing is, I lost all of my data and material for the Skyrim story, so I decide to abandon it for now. Don't worry, I'll rewrite it in the future.
As I got the urge to replay the Fallout series, I've decided to write a Fallout fanfiction following my playthrough of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, using Tales of Two Wasteland mod.
Consider giving me review and if possible, criticism so I can make my story as well as my writing skill better.
Thank you.
Disclaimer for this story, that means one time for all of the chapters: I do not own the Fallout franchise.
"So, they finally decided to get rid of me…"
I leaned on the tree trunk, my hand holding the stabbed wound on my chest, which was bleeding profusely.
"Don't cry, little one. I was always meant to die. It's only a matter of when."
"But it's not fair. After all you've done for them. The organization's foundation and all of its achievement was because of you. Your only wish was to retire and they…"
I chuckled, "I'm too dangerous for them to be left alive, even if I'm retired. It's okay, I've already made peace with it a long time ago."
The girl, looking no more than early 20s, weeping on my chest and hugging the shit out of me, which aggravated the chest's wound a bit.
"... I'm sorry, I had no choice. They somehow found out about my little brother and held him hostage over me."
I patted the girl's head, "I know. Don't worry, I've already set everything up. After my heart stops beating, every information about them will be exposed. They're already done. An envelope will be delivered to you in a few days, detailing everything you need to know to start a new life with your brother elsewhere."
The girl shook her head, "But you'll not be there with me. I don't want to live that life, not without you!"
"I already told you, little one. I'm too old for you, and my existence is too dangerous for you and your brother. If you can, find someone normal that can make you happy and live a long, happy 'll give me peace."
My eyes started to become blurry. I felt my strength starting to leave me. I guess I should honor one of the wishes of my protege. I lifted the girl's head and kissed her on the lips.
"I'm sorry, Morgana, it's time for me to go. I wish you a happy life."
And just like that, I breathed my last, leaving Morgana wailed on my corpse.
"A boy! We got a boy, Catherine. A beautiful, healthy baby boy!"
"Oh James… We did it… A son… Our beautiful son…"
What's going on? Didn't I die?
"You've got a bright future ahead of you, son. I'm sure of it."
Why's he calling me son? What's happening?
I tried to move my body, but it's very hard, like my body was drained of stamina and thrown into a river. After trying a bit, I could finally lift up my arms. I looked down and saw both of my tiny hands.
Wait, am I a baby? Did I get reincarnated? That stuff is real? And why do I still remember my past life if it's true?
I pondered while looking up at the face of my supposed dad in this life.
"Look at you… Hi there, I'm your daddy, little guy. Daddy. You're going to need a name, aren't you. Your mom and I have already decided your name already. Kenji. That's a good name, don't you think? Fit you perfectly."
… What are the chances. My name was once again Kenji, same as my last life.
"You're going to look a lot like your handsome dad. See that, Catherine?"
Dad said while tilting me toward my mom for her to see my face.
"Ohh… Very handsome… Just like his daddy… Ha ha ha…"
Dad looked at me and said,
"It's a big world out there, son, full of all sorts of people. I wonder what kind of person you going to be when you all grow up_"
"James? James… Something's… Something's…"
My dad, James, looked toward my mom, Catherine.
"Catherine? Catherine! She's in cardiac arrest! Start compressions! Get the baby out of here! Move, move!"
Last thing I heard when I was moved out of the infirmary was my dad telling my mother to hang on.
— 10 years later —
*SURPRISE*
The light in the Cafeteria was turned on and everyone here shouted out to me.
Not much of a surprise though, considering I can literally sense everyone hiding in the Cafeteria.
Dad knew of this, but pretended to not notice anything.
I was given a Pip-boy 3000 from Alphonse Almodovar, the Overseer of Vault 101 which my father and I were living in.
My mother did not survive after giving birth to me, the strain on her heart was too much for her.
James, my father, never blamed me for that. Instead, he tried his best to give me everything I ever needed or wanted. Of course he did not spoil me to the point of being a spoiled brat, but close enough.
Just like this 10th birthday of mine, he gave me a BB gun and a place to practice my shooting skill. Considering no one could ever own any weapon in this Vault, this was a very good and hard to obtain gift from dad.
Even though I'm in a new body, my skills as the top Sniper and top Assassin in the world was still there, all in my memories. It was just a matter of practicing it again and getting used to it with this body of mine.
James and Jonas, my father's assistant, were very surprised at my skill with the gun, as I demonstrated that each shot hit all bullseye and took out the radroach that wandered in the shooting range with only one shot to its tiny head.
Another thing about me though, I was huge being a 10 years old. Standing at 5.1 feet/155 cm and 120 pounds/55 kg, I dwarfed every kid around my age, even almost as tall and big as some of the adults.
That's why I'm a loner. Due to my stature, kids did not consider me the same as them. Also the kid named Butch was trying to provoke me too much in the past and I might possibly slap him a bit too hard. From then on kids were afraid of me.
Well, the Overseer's daughter, Amata, was afraid of me at first, but after I helped her fend off Butch and his gang a few times, she started to hang around me and eventually called herself my 'best friend'. She was a bit annoying, but had good heart.
Seriously, considering I was a middle-age man just before I was born in this world, combined with my antisocial personality, you'd think that being a loner was a given.
— 6 years later —
"As far as I can tell, you're perfectly healthy for a 16-year-old boy. Nothing's wrong with you. Remember, Kenji, never ever let the other know about your situation, for your own safety."
I nodded.
"I know, father, don't worry."
James looked at me fondly.
"Seriously though, you're one hell of a teenager for a 16 year old. If anyone saw you for the first time, no one would think you're still just a kid."
And he's right. Standing at 6 feet/182 cm and 180 pounds/82 kg, I am even bigger than many of the adults here in the Vault.
I have platinum silver hair, same as my father, which was cut in an undercut, a bit long up top and swept back.
My face can be described as masculine. Not handsome, but masculine.
I have a prominent chin and a squared jawline with more pronounced definition at the gonial angle. There are already signs of stubble appearing on my face.
Combine that with my Almond-shape eyes, high bridge nose, a thick and clean, bushy eyebrows and charming smile. I was very much masculine.
… Ok, maybe handsome too. I might be a bit narcissistic.
As my father said, I was a mutated human. Maybe because of the radiation my parents got and it affected me when I was conceived or maybe something else, I don't know, but my DNA was different from human.
I 'm still a human being, but an 'upgraded' version if we want to simplify it.
I can see in dim light pretty well, though barely anything in the dark without any light source. Still useful though. I can also see pretty far too.
I have an enhanced body. Pretty big bones, dense muscles and my body is generally very strong. To put it in perspective, I'm half as strong as a Silverback Gorilla, maybe as strong as them when I finished going through puberty.
Even though I was huge, it did not affect my speed, considering the mutation also enhanced my speed and reflexes. It also did not affect my expertise in stealth tactics, as I can be pretty sneaky and stealthy as I've tested numerous times on others, thank god for that.
I can also jump very high. The highest high jump record in my world back then was 8 feet inches/2.45 meter. I could very much double that at least.
I don't know exactly how high I could jump, as there was nowhere for me to test this without exposing myself to others or the camera. I just know when I tried to test it before in my room, I hit my head on the ceiling.
My skin was pretty tough. A blunt weapon cannot bruise me with one or two strikes, or a dull knife cannot cut me in a few slashes, but will work if repeated several times.
My father had to use a bigger and more durable needle to penetrate my skin to take my blood, that'll put you in perspective.
Last one was my high resistance to radiation and regeneration.
I heal pretty quick. I experimented with a small knife cut in my arm and it took only a few days to heal completely and naturally, without any medicine or bandages. A bigger cut would take around one week.
If I apply bandages and medicine though, the small wound will heal within a day and the bigger wound will heal after just a few days.
Radiation also did not affect me much compared to others, and I also slowly healed from radiation poisoning naturally.
It also enhanced my metabolism and resistance to diseases. I Never catch a cold or have any sickness at all.
And no, I'm not an idiot.
Unfortunately, I'm not immune to radiation like the Super Mutants.
Even then, that was pretty big for me, considering I'll probably get so many injuries in the future and need to live in the Wasteland with all the radiation there.
There was one negative mutation though.
I can only eat meat and need a lot of it to sustain my body. Vegetables also have no effect on me. I can still eat it and taste them, but they give me no nutrition, only meat does.
Ehh, not that big of a deal I guess.
My father and I were the only ones who know of this, and no record of this on any papers, reports or terminals, as my father destroyed it all already.
"Alright, you're done here. Head to the class and take the G.O.A.T exam."
I sighed, stood up and started leaving the clinic.
"I will, even though it was a stupid exam. Love you dad."
James smiled at my reply and waved his hand.
After arriving at the classroom, the 'Tunnel Snakes' gang of three people, Butch was the leader, was harassing Amata again.
"Get out of my way you stupid Tunnel Snakes!"
"I can show you a real snake, if you know what I mean, hehehe."
I sighed and stepped up.
"Just grow up and leave her alone, Butch. Your hatchling of a snake will not impress any ladies anytime soon."
Butch's face was red with anger. I just guessed but it seems like I hit a sore but correct spot. He turned toward me and even though he was a bit trembling and afraid of me, considering I am a head taller than him while also almost double his body size, he still somehow found some courage to talk back to me.
"Stay out of our way if you know what's good for you!"
"Really? I remember that last time you were taken to my father unconscious. I don't want to, but if you want a repeat of that, I'll happily oblige."
Butch was reminded of that last time and considered my words, then he called for his friends to retreat while making one last statement, as always.
"Let's go, Tunnel Snakes. This bitch ain't worth our time."
I just sighed. Dealing with kids and teenagers was a nightmare, especially wannabe punk like that.
"Thanks for getting rid of those assholes. I don't know why they won't leave me alone just because my father is the Overseer. Idiots."
We went into the class and took our G.O.A.T exam.
As I said before, the test was stupid. Anyone with a brain cell can figure out how the questions and answers were related to your skill set and used to determine your job.
I answered whatever though, as I was sure some day in the near future, I'll be gone from the Vault and into the wasteland.
— Three years later —
It seems my growth spurt stopped a year ago, as I've not gained a single inch throughout the year.
I'm now 19 years old, standing at 7 feet/215 cm and 350 pounds/150 kg. I can only be described as a 'mountain of muscle'.
Seriously though, how the heck did my body grow this big?
I then lied there, looking at the ceiling from my bed. Those past 19 years passed so quickly. Even though it was like a prison here in this Vault, I was intrigued to learn everything my father could teach me to his best knowledge.
Yes, everything I learned about this world was from my father, not from class, as the Overseer seems to be hiding many important things from us residents.
Due to my mature personality and intelligence, my father entrusted me with his secret: we were not born inside this Vault.
He told me his story of him as a scientist before entering Vault 101, about Project Purity, about how he and mother met and eventually married.
He wished for me to remain here in the Vault with him, safe and sound, have nothing to worry about and that life outside of the Vault, in the Wasteland, was far too dangerous and have nothing to offer me.
Sorry dad, but I'll go out and live my life there. Even if it's dangerous, it surely was much more fulfilling compared to this prison. Also I don't think this Vault is gonna survive for a few more generations at best according to what I saw.
After my 10th birthday, my body grew enough for me to start my training.
Even though I have an abundance of experiences from my past life, this world was different, much different so I need to learn everything I could and train as much as I can to prepare for any situation, any encounter, any weird creatures out there as much as I can.
Luckily, I have 9 years for it and I spent them well.
As I stopped growing around 18 years old, I knew that it was time for me to leave the Vault. I spent 1 more year consolidating everything I learned and training, stocking and preparing for my eventual leaving the Vault.
One thing I didn't take into account though, was my dad.
— A few days later —
What the hell is going on? Why did the sirens sound out, something happened?
I contemplated as I reached for my wooden baseball bat that I received as a gift for my 10th birthday.
I felt someone approaching my room. The door opened and Amata bursted into my room.
"Oh thank god you're already up. My father's men are looking for you. They've already killed Jonas, you've got to get out of here!"
I paused at that and looked seriously at Amata.
"Jonas's death? Why?"
"It's your dad. He's left the Vault! My father thinks Jonas helped him escape, so he had his men… My god, Steve killed him… he just beat him and beat him, and won't stop… I'm sorry you had to find out like this. I know Jonas was your friend."
Amata wiped her tears away and continued,
"But we've got to go, now. My father's men will be here any minute!"
Is this fate?
I sighed. Never would I've thought my father would have the same idea as leaving the Vault as me.
"Don't worry 'bout me, I'll leave the Vault too."
Seemed like my ideal coincided with what Amata was thinking, as she did not question it.
She contemplated for a bit and asked me,
"Listen, … Maybe it isn't any of my business, but didn't your dad tell you that he was leaving?"
I just shook my head, leaned my bat to the table and headed toward my toy's chest at the end of the bed.
"I'm sorry. I'm sure he had his reason. Maybe Jonas was supposed to explain everything to you? But it doesn't matter, I can help you escape. I have a plan."
I turned to Amata, shook my head and said,
"No need. Got a plan myself to escape."
Amata was stunned at my reply, as she was not expecting it.
"B-but how? There was no way to leave the Vault if you do not have knowledge of_"
I sighed. It seems I have to reveal a bit to Amata for her to believe me and not involve in this escape of mine, so I cut her off.
"Secret tunnel in the Overseer office."
Amata was stunned again, not knowing what to say as she did not expect me to know that.
"Look, Amata. Thank you for trying to help me, but I don't need it. Go back to your home, don't involve in this, I can take care of myself."
Amata was reluctant, but nodded and agreed. She then remembered something and said,
"Wait, I stole my father's pistol, I hope you won't need it, but take it just in case."
I shook my head again.
"Keep it. Don't worry about me and just get home safe."
Amata sighed at my stubbornness and my forceful dismissal of her, she ran back out and back to her home, at least that's what I thought.
After Amata left, I pulled out the stuff that I hid under all the toys inside the chest. Nobody would think of searching under a mountain of children's toys.
A backpack with a bunch of purified water, canned meat and a bunch of Vault Suits inside. A sling for strapping my gun on my chest. A handgun's holster for my right leg and a small utility bag strap on my left leg with medicines like Stimpak, Radaway, Med-X etc. A waist bandolier for holding my magazines and ammunition.
I made all of this myself with what material I could get, though of course no guns or ammunition yet, just prepared it all for the future.
Alright, let's go. I should go to the clinic first. If I'm lucky, there might be some clues there as to why dad left.
I took my bat and went outside of my home. Just as I stepped outside, I heard a shout.
"There he is! Hold it right there!"
Looking at the source, I found Kendall who was holding his baton up in the air and running toward me.
Kendall. An empty brain Officer here in the Vault. Also an 'I'm the law' person and love to play cop. He will follow orders without much thought into it, whether it's right or wrong doesn't bother him.
Guess he received orders to bring me in. Looks like he was happy to use that baton of his first, whether I surrender or not.
Kendal was one of the few who was not afraid of me. Not because he's brave or anything like that, he's just too stupid to the point of not recognizing the danger of messing with me.
I side stepped his simple forward strike of his baton and tripped him, which made him tumbling onto the ground.
"Only one warning. Stop."
"Screw you bitch. Stand still and let me hit you."
I sighed and caught his arm that held his baton, after he got up and lunged toward me with the baton again. Even though he's stupid and a jerk, it was not to the point of deserve to be killed, so I just lightly punched him in the face.
Although I said lightly, with my strength, Kendall flew back and collided with the wall behind him and slid down, unconscious.
Just then, a mob of Radroaches came out of nowhere. They were drawn to my fight with Kendall it seemed.
Guess I need to take care of them or Kendal will be their meal today.
I whacked two big Radroaches that flew up, then ran toward and stomped the two smaller Radroaches behind them. The last one was a huge Radroaches though, so I held my bat and downward striked it.
This one is more durable than the others, so it needed a second strike to die.
I hated Radroaches. They might not possess any danger to me, but after many bites, they could penetrate my skin and wound me.
Although it's not serious and I heals very quickly, the itch it gave me was quite annoying. It's like a mosquito's bite, just a lot more itchy and remains longer.
Maybe the sirens were because of the Radroaches breached?
After dealing with the Radroaches, I proceed through the hallway toward the Atrium. Just as I turned around the corner, Butch ran into me. He looked at me in relieve and said,
"You gotta help me! My mom's trapped in there with the Radroaches! I can't go back in there. It's dark… and there's Radroaches!"
I sighed at that. Leave it to a tennager that was a leader of a 'gang' to be afraid of the dark and Radroaches.
I just nodded and headed toward Butch and his mother's home.
I can see through the window, into Butch's mother's room on my way there. Ellen DeLoria, Butch's mother, was being attacked by three Radroaches.
"Ahhh! Butchie, help me!"
As the situation was dire, I quickened my steps and opened the door to her room and quickly dealt with the Radroaches.
Ellen was intoxicated, as always, and did not seem to mind the Radroaches attack. She just stood up, wandered to the living room and sat down while muttering,
"God! I could really use a drink right now."
Shaking my head at that, I attempted to leave, but Butch stopped me.
"Thanks, you're the best man, the best. Hey, I know I'm a bit of a jerk in the past, but thank you for saving my mom. I want you to have this."
Butch gave me his Tunnel Snakes jacket. Even though it was too small for me and not my style, the material was quite good. I guess I can trade it for something useful later on.
I nodded and accepted the jacket, then waved goodbye to the duo of mother and son.
I left Butch and Ellen's home and continued my way through the hall. Passing by the Cafeteria, I saw Grandma Taylor lying on the floor, a bunch of Radroaches munching on her body.
Damn it!
Grandma Taylor was one of the few people that I liked in this Vault. She is always kind to others, especially the kids. But most of all, for some reason, she was fond of me the most, always giving me lots of sweet rolls compared to other kids.
Lost in a bit of rage, I killed all the Radroaches that were responsible for her death.
That was another thing. I am usually very calm and collected, always controlling my emotions perfectly in my last life. In this life, I still got it, but it was affected, maybe by the mutation, and if something happened to anyone I considered close to me, I lose a bit of that control.
After dispatching the Radroaches, I took a deep breath to calm down. I gathered grandma Taylor's corpse and sat her down to the chair and closed her opened eyes.
Goodbye, grandma. Thank you for everything.
Time was of essence so I bid a quick goodbye to grandma Taylor and left. Going upstairs and passing a door with a sign that said 'Atrium', I arrived at the clinic.
"Be careful, there're more of them!"
There I saw Officer Gomez and Andy were taking on a few more Radroaches, with a bunch of Radroaches already dead lying around them.
With the help of Andy and his firethrower, they got the situation under control.
Officer Gomez spotted me, but unlike Kendall, he put down his hand that was holding his baton and talked to me.
"Oh, you're lucky it was me who found you. The others won't be so forgiving."
I just nodded at him. Officer Gomez can be considered one of the few 'good cops' in the Vault. He was one of the few people I liked beside grandma Taylor.
He continued, "I don't know what you're up to and I don't wanna know. Just clear out of here and I'll pretend I never saw you."
"Thank you, Officer Gomez. Take care of yourself and Freedie."
"It's a real shame it's come to this. I can't believe what they did to Jonas… Officer Mack was out of control. You're a good kid, you don't deserve any of this. Go find your dad, if you can, and take care of yourself, kid. Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
I bid him goodbye, but instead of continuing my way toward the Atrium, I entered the clinic.
It's such a mess here. Looks like the other Officers already searched the whole clinic for information. If I remember correctly, dad had a secret safe right behind the Framed Quote on his wall. Let's see if he already cleaned it out or if he was too hurry to leave and did not touch it.
Entering the clinic and then my father's office. Everything was turned upside down, but for some reason, they did not touch the Frame Quote on the wall.
I lifted it and found the secret safe I was looking for. It seems dad was in a hurry and did not take out what's inside, as it's still locked.
As I didn't know the password, using a bobby pin, I easily unlocked it. I would be a laughing stock if a world renowned-class Assassin cannot unlock a lock.
Inside I found just two things. A bag holding lots of bottle caps, and a holotape titled 'Home-sweet-home'
Well, looks like dad was preparing for this day too. I'll listen to this holotape later. Time to go.
Going through the door and arriving at the Atrium, I heard a conversation from around the corner.
"We should go back Tom, it's too risky."
"It's our only chance, Mary. We're getting out of here, just like the doctor.I'm not gonna let anyone stop us."
Looks like the married couple Mary and Tom. They wanted to escape this Vault, just like me and dad.
"It's me, Tom Holden_"
Tom was running toward the door leading to the Vault door while announcing himself, but before he could finish his sentence, he was gunned down by the security who were guarding the door.
"Tom! Nooo!"
Mary was stricken by fear and worry for Tom, tried to get to Tom who was now down on the ground. She was then shot down too.
God damn it, those animals.
It was one thing to stop and restrain people, it was another to murder them in cold blood like this.
Stealthily crouching and hiding behind a pillar, I looked toward the door and saw two Security Officers guarding the door.
It's them. O'Brian and Richards. Two sadist sons of bitches. I knew this would happen if they were given any liberty at all.
I approached the entrance to where they were guarding the door and heard them conversing with each other.
"What a mess…"
"Yeah, good mess. I got to shoot someone for this. Felt really good compared to just shooting at some bottles and cans."
"Focus. We've got a duty here."
"Oh shut up. Don't act like you're not enjoying it one bit."
Both of them then laughed, which made my blood boil, but not to the point of losing my cool as before.
With some change in my voice to sound a bit higher than my normal deep voice, I shouted,
"Quick, someone support me to bring this kid in, he's too heavy!"
Both of the guards heard it. Richards then said to O'Brian.
"Go help him. I have enough fun already."
O'Brian smiled sinisterly and said,
"With pleasure. We only need to bring him in alive. I think a bit of rounding up will get him to talk easier."
Just as O'Brian passed the entrance and into the Atrium, I quickly grabbed him from the wall I was leaning and hiding right next to it, lifted him up in the air, shoulder threw and slammed him down onto the ground.
Even with his armor on, slamming anyone from the height of more than 7 feet/2 meter onto the metal floor will knock anyone out.
I took hold of his 10mm pistol and shot right between his eyes, effectively ending his life.
"What the hell?! What happened, Brian?!"
Richards was shouting and panicking, as the last thing he saw of his friend and college was O'Brian disappeared quickly to the side of the entrance, then a *BANG* sounded out as if something hit the floor and a gunshot, then nothing else.
I checked the gun I just got, then looted O'Brian for two extra magazines for it and put it on my bandolier.
I then threw my bat up in the air and into the entrance that Richards was guarding, effectively distracted him.
After peeking and seeing that he was distracted, I leaned out and pulled the trigger. The bullet was planted right between his eyes, much like his friend.
Two more magazines on him, nice.
In total, I got two 10mm pistols in good condition and four spare magazines. Two batons I could sell or trade it later on. Pretty good haul.
Damn it, they locked this door down. Looks like I've got to go around the long way then.
The door leading directly to the Vault entrance was locked and with no way to open it except from the Overseer's terminal, I went to the upper level via the staircase to the side of the Atrium.
Arriving on the upper level after dispatched a few more Radroaches, I continued my way to pass through the door with a sign 'Admin' on it.
Just before I passed the door, someone talked to me with a muffled voice, maybe because they're talking through a window glass. The person was also banging the window while talking too.
"You! This is your fault! You and your stupid father! He had to go and leave, didn't he? He had to mess things up for everybody! Guard! He's here, don't let him get away!"
Just as the person finished, a Security guard appeared through the door leading to Admin.
Chief Security Hanon. The chief of security in this Vault.
A retard who thinks he's smart and wants to play soldier and following orders is his highest calling..
Just like Kendall, I knocked him unconscious only and not killed him. Retard is not a worthy sin to die.
After dealing with Hanon, I looked back at the window where the voice sounded before and met eye to eye with Allen Mack.
Now, I have some respect for this man. Allen Mack loves his family. While strict, Allen genuinely loves and cares about his children.
When his son, Wally, had his tenth birthday, he managed to coax Andy the Mr. Handy to perform magic tricks, and organized a game of Hunt the Mutant in the Vault's atrium.
I could always appreciate a man who took care of his family and loved ones.
That's why I did not have any qualm with him for not inviting me to that birthday party, not that I wanted to attend in the first place. Also I can tolerate his disdain attitude for me and my father considering we were from the Wasteland.
Just as I was gonna ignored him and went on my way, he said,
"I always knew we shouldn't have taken him and you in, and it looks like I was right all along. A perfect example of why we need to keep the Vault shut! If I know this was gonna happened, I would've kill that fucker James back then. Put a bullet between his eyes like a filthy dog!"
He just had to open his big mouth again and insult my father.
*BANG* *CRUNCH* *CRACK*
I swung my fist toward the window that he was banging on, hard. The window was not shattered, but cracking was spreading from the center of my fist planted on it, like a spider web.
"Listen here you little shit. I tolerated you because I respected you as a loving father, a man of his family, always trying to do right for your family. Insult my father again, then all bets are off, and I'm gonna break this window, go in there and pull out your tongue, break your limbs one by one and leave you there to enjoy your suffering, got me?"
Although I did not speak too loud, due to my deep voice combined with the detailing threats and my intimidated stature, Allen was shocked and fell to his butt on the floor, looking at me in horror.
It seems due to my apathetic personality and not wanting to interact with most of the people here throughout the years, people forget that I'm almost double the size of the biggest person here and can easily kill anyone in this Vault if I want to.
Seeing that my threat was effective, I left Allen alone for his wife to come by his side and helped him up and continued on my way.
Floyd Lewis. Even though I'm not interact with him much,he's still acting kind toward me now and then. Looks like the Radroaches got him.
Arriving at the control room, I found Floyd Lewis, the Vault's engineer, lying dead at the center with a few Radroaches's corpse nearby.
Closing his eyes and wished him R.I.P, I continued past the control room.
"I told you, I don't know anything!"
I heard Amata's voice coming from the Security room right to the left of the hallway.
"Don't be unreasonable, Amata. Look. Officer Mack may enjoy this, but I don't. Just tell us where to find your friend so we can talk to him."
Really now? Torture your own daughter with that psychopath just to get information that she might not even have?
"He's my friend. I was just worried about him. What does he have to do with any of this?"
"Probably nothing. Which is why you should tell us where to find him so we can talk to him."
Amata was sitting in a chair, her father, Alphonse, standing in front of her while Officer Steve Mack was standing right next to her.
Right then, Amata pulled out the gun that she offered me before and pointed the gun at the two of them.
"Watch out, sir! She got a gun!"
Alphonse was startled at first, but then calmed down.
"Just where did you get that gun from, young lady?! I do not remember giving you any at all!"
"Just stay away from me! I don't want to use this but I swear I'll shoot you if you get any closer!"
Not wanting for the kid to have to do this, I deliberately walked in, my foot making lots of noise.
All of them looked back at me.
Alphonse and Steve looked surprised at me, while Amata was relieved and took advantage of the other two being distracted and bolted past me and out of there.
Steve was the first to act and shouted while running toward me.
"There the brat is!"
I did not explode before when I heard that Jonas was killed by Steve from Amata because there was no point right then.
It is different now.
I did not use my gun. Catching Steve's right arm that was swinging the baton at me in my left hand, I squeezed hard and broke his arm.
"Arghhh! My arm!"
I took his baton and let go of his arm as he hunched down, nursing his broken arm.
"It's just the start."
Steve looked back up at me, confused. I did not say anything else, raise the baton and hit him hard on his left collar bone.
"Arghhhh!"
He fell down on his knees. I just picked him up by his neck and held him in the air with one arm. Then I continued with his left arm, both of his legs then dropped him on the floor.
I then proceeded to stomp hard on both of his knees, making him scream loudly.
I wanted to continue, but by then, Steve was in shock from internal bleeding and already lost consciousness.
That calmed me down a bit. It's no use to continue anymore, so I threw away his baton and ended his suffering. By a final stomp of my feet and shattered his head.
Throughout my torture of Steve, Alphonse's brain seems to stop working as he watched everything, from start to finished in the corner of the room.
"...Monster…"
I turned toward him.
"Yes, but not as much as you, who already lost his humanity by torturing his own daughter just for information that she might or might not have. I'm always a monster if anyone decides to be my enemy. Killing my friend Jonas does just that."
I then walked toward him and stopped right in front of him, overshadowed him and forced him to look up toward me.
"Hand over the key to your office and terminal password. Now!"
He complied and handed the things I requested over while saying.
"Y-you're not going to kill me?"
After taking the key and paper containing the terminal password, I turned around and started leaving.
"Even if Amata was annoying, she was treating me as her real friend. I'll let her deal with you later on, as I'm sure at this rate, there'll be a rebel in this Vault for your type of 'Overseeing'. Make no mistake, your sins are much bigger than any other murderer Officers here."
I then left him behind in the room and went to the Overseer's Office.
There I found Jonas, lying dead on the floor.
I'm sorry Jonas. This should've never happened to you. Rest in peace my friend.
I closed his eyes and crossed both of his arms to his chest. Right when I did that, I felt a bulge in the inner pocket of his lab coat.
Searching his pocket, I found a holotape titled 'Note from dad' on it.
So, Jonas was supposed to give me this to explain everything. Dad was too trusting in people and did not foresee this happening. Now Jonas's dead.
Shaking my head, I got up and went to unlock the door to the Overseer's Office with the key I got from Alphonse.
Right then, Amata appeared from her home right across the door to the Office.
"Thank you, Kenji, for being there in time. I don't know what I'd do if you did not arrive on time right then."
I turned back to her.
"You're not prepared to have blood on your hand, at least not yet."
Amata looked strangely at me.
"But you're the same as me, why can you do it?"
I shook my head and replied, "I'm different from you, or any other kids. Trust me."
She fidgeting a bit, then looked timidly at me and asked,
"... Can I come with you?"
I sighed. I know I have to address this.
"Look, Amata. Thank you for being my friend all those years. Also I'm sorry, but I cannot return your feelings. I also know that you'd rather stay here in this Vault than traveling outside and into the Wasteland. I'm sorry but I'll be blunt, you're too naive, too trusting of others, have no skill that you can survive out there, at least for now."
I took a breath, placed a hand on her shoulder then continued.
"You're just like a flower growing up in a greenhouse, you'll die out there. Stay here and learn to be a leader. Help change things in the Vault for the better. The Vault needed to change the way or everyone will perish in the near future. Maybe learn how to survive out there after that and just maybe, you can venture out in the future. But not now."
I took off my hand and bid her a final farewell.
"Goodbye, Amata. Maybe this will be the final time we see each other, maybe not if you decide to go out into the Wasteland in the future, preferably after you dealt with things in the Vault already and learn how to survive outside the Vault. Good luck and goodbye."
I then passed the door to the Overseer's Office and closed the door behind me.
After opening the secret tunnel right below the Overseer's table, I proceeded through some hallways and doors and arrived at the Vault 101 entrance.
"He's here! Get him! don't let him open the door!"
Park and Wolfe. Guessed Alphonse placed these two as the last defense for me.
After knocking these two guards unconscious, I proceeded to the control panel and flipped the switch to open and close the Blast Door.
Guess this is it. After I go out and the door closes, I'll never get back inside ever again, unless someone decides to open it, which I double it.
After the Blast Door closed behind me after opening for a while, as its protocol, I proceeded through the cavern the Vault was located in and out into the Wasteland.
This is the tale of Kenji. This is the tale of the one from Vault 101, the one that will be known to everyone else as the Lone Wanderer. The tale of his adventure into the Wasteland, of his story throughout the Capital Wasteland.
