Chapter 16: A Season for Announcements

I found myself making it to class with ten minutes to spare in the middle of July. Life had practically returned to normal after the incidents that took place at the beginning of the month. I say 'practically' because there were two things that changed for me…

First, there was the revelation I had when I watched the movie 'Dawn of the Seven' the other day with Sakura. Up until now I had assumed that I was the only superhero in this world. But that was wrong. I only thought I was because I searched on the internet for results that were specifically geared due to the Pro Heroes that existed in my world, (All Might, Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Edgeshot, ext.) As well as UA. But I came up with nothing in the end. But that's to be expected because this is a brand-new world with its own set of rules.

But I didn't know that at the time. That's why I foolishly assumed that if none of the heroes from my world existed here then 'superheroes' were only a fictional concept in this world. However, I couldn't be more wrong after watching that movie. When the credits rolled, I couldn't believe that each of the 'heroes' who appeared in the movie were portrayed by themselves. I did some searching on the internet when I got home that night and that's when everything started falling into place.

'No, I don't think so! I don't recognize that superhero in the slightest! He clearly isn't anyone from The Seven! Unless he's some indie superhero?' This line made much more sense in hindsight. Even though I was aware of the movie at the time, I couldn't put two and two together. Not just because I was in the heat of the battle, but also since I had no belief that heroes were actual living beings here. And that's why I couldn't understand until I saw them for myself. The titular 'Seven.'

Now, onto my thoughts regarding the movie. To be honest, I didn't like it. But it wasn't to say the movie was entirely bad. The action was stellar, and the visual effects were insane. (Though that isn't much of point in the movie's favor after realizing that the powers I saw in screen actually existed, hence no effort on the visual effects department on that part.) But what I really didn't like about the movie was that it was missing one of the core parts I enjoyed about superhero movies. That being that no one was 'saved.'

I wanted to become a hero ever since I was a kid, I dreamt of saving people like All Might did in his reveal video. But in this movie, none of the 'heroes' saved anybody. Sure, they fought the villain and that was cool but countless people died in that movie. Sure, no one really 'died' it was a movie after all. But that doesn't take away from the fact that they messed up one of the core parts of what makes a superhero an actual superhero. Not only that but even 'The Seven' came across as fake. They didn't seem like they were actual heroes, only 'pretenders.'

I really wanted to like the movie, but I couldn't help but be dissatisfied with it. Sakura noticed after we left the theater and was concerned about me. So, I played it off like I wanted more from it because it was so amazing. But I was lying to her because I didn't want her to feel like it was her fault. In the end, I didn't like the movie nor the heroes that existed in this world. I didn't want anything to do with them.

However, that wouldn't stop me from coming across them eventually. Whether I like it or not, 'The Seven' are heroes that are part of this world. Even though they seem to only operate in America for some reason. So, if they aren't going to protect the other parts of the world, then I will do my part by protecting this school and all of the people in it. That's what I owe to All Might for giving me this second chance at a new life. But all of that was only the first thing that became apparent to me. As for the second-

"Hey, I wonder when that costumed hero is going to make his next appearance!" One of my classmates, Mei-Yu Wang spoke to her friends with a smile on her face. That's right. My debut as the hero Deku was the talk of the town so to speak. (Not like they knew that my hero identity was 'Deku', so they had been referring to me as 'hero.' Or as-

"The bunny? He looks kinda childish if you ask me. For a 'hero' I expected someone more… macho looking. Know what I mean?" Another one of my classmates, Maya Sato admitted with a smirk. Bunny? Oh, I guess she thinks the hair looks like ears for some reason. I should correct her about that.

"Hey, Sato. I think it's supposed to be strands of hair; you know the 'ears.'" I replied with a nervous smile on my face while putting my fingers near the top of my head. But this got the attention of another one of my classmates.

"Nah. Those are definitely bunny ears. Plus, how would you know? It's not like you're the hero, right?" Kikyo Kushida asked with a smile on her face as she was right next to me as if she teleported. It almost made me jump out of my skin when I noticed how close she was.

"R-Right." I replied with what was surely an embarrassed look on my face as I pinched my cheek. Damn it! I almost blew my cover! Thanks, Kushida!

"Of course, you'd like to see that hero Mii-Chan… with your crush on him and all." Another one of my classmates, Kayano Onodera commented with a smirk on her face. This caught the both of us off guard.

"C-C-Crush?!" Both me and Mii-Chan (Mii-Chan being the nickname for Mei-Yu Wang) yelled out in unison. Mii-Chan then covered her face out of obvious embarrassment while I faced the opposite direction as I realized that only after the fact…

'I SAID THAT OUT LOUD!' I screamed internally as I could feel a piercing stare from behind me.

"Huh. I didn't expect Midoriya to react to that. Does that mean, hahaha… you have a crush on Mii-Chan?" Onodera said as her smug smile grew wider as I almost jumped out of my skin. This caught the class's entire attention as I could feel piercing stares and muttering behind my back. Though thankfully, that didn't last for too long.

"Onodera don't be an idiot. You can tease Mii-Chan all you want but you shouldn't confuse Midoriya's crush. She is in the same room after all." Yet another one of my classmates, Haruka Hasebe said with a serious expression on her face before lightly karate chopping Onodera on the forehead.

"Oh yeah, and who would that be?!" Onodera snapped back with the face of a tiger and growled like one too.

"Have you not been paying attention, it's obviously Sakura-San. They did go to the movies together the other day." Hasebe replied as my eyes shot wide open while the staring of my classmates returned as I could feel them piercing my back. All the while Sakura was a stuttering mess with her repeating 'I-I-I' over and over again like a broken record. Ok, I have to set things straight!

"I-I-I promise that you've got the wrong idea." I made my way to Hasebe's desk as I spoke as confidently as possible to her, but I couldn't help stuttering in the process as this topic was very embarrassing for me.

"Oh, then you two are just friends?" Hasebe replied with a confused look on her face.

"Precisely! Isn't that right, Sakura?" I replied before looking back at Sakura as she was nodding relentlessly with a face that was as red as a tomato. Phew, I think that work-

"So, I was right! You do have a crush on Mii-Chan!" Onodera yelled out with a confident smile on her face.

"No, you're wrong. I don't have any feelings for her." I replied bluntly much to Onodera's dissatisfaction as she clicked her tongue. As for Mii-Chan-

"Y-You… don't find me cute?" Mii-Chan replied as I noticed her with a tear in her eye. I then felt like I got punched in the gut.

"I never said that. You're very cute. But please don't take that the wrong way." I replied with a serious look on my face, Mii-chan replied with 'I understand, thanks.' With a beaming smile on her face. Okay, I think that should be it-

"When did talking about Midoriya's love life become such a hot topic?" Kei Karuizawa replied with a dumbfounded look on her face. And just when I thought it was over, she fanned the flames! But before I could say a word, her words caught Onodera's attention as she beat me to the punch.

"You're just jealous, that you're not included in this discussion. Which means you have a crush on him!" Onodera replied with a wide grin on her face as she pointed at Karuizawa.

"As if! You do remember that Hirata is my boyfriend, right?!" Karuizawa snapped back while slamming her hands onto her own desk out of protest and to illustrate the point she was making to the entire classroom.

"Drat. I thought I was on to something. Ow." Onodera commented before being karate chopped on the head by Hasebe. Meanwhile, I was completely taken aback by all these rumors. I wanted nothing more than to put an end to them, but I had no clue how to! In my desperation I asked my friend for advice.

"Horikita! What do I do?!" I asked with a whisper but the way I said those words made it clear how anxious I was regarding the topic.

"How should I know, Deku?" Horikita replied as she was in the middle of studying for the upcoming lecture. But my eyes went wide upon hearing what she called me. That was the first time that she called me 'Deku.' So, I couldn't help myself by making a big deal out of it.

"Y-Y-You called me, Deku?!" I accidentally yelled out with a face that was bright red as I unintentionally attracted back the stares of everyone onto me and Horikita, the latter of which, only realized after the fact that she called me Deku due to her flinching. But before she could say a word-

"Deku? Doesn't that word mean 'Useless Person?'" Another one of my classmates Teruhiko Yukimura, who had remained silent up to this point commented with a confused look on his face.

"Ouch! Man, I'd hate to be you right now. Hahaha." Haruki Yamauchi interjected with a grin on his face.

"Don't be an ass, dude." Kanji Ike muttered with an unamused look on his face before finger flicking the back of Yamauchi's head, much to the latter's annoyance.

"You've got it all wrong. 'Deku' kind of sounds like 'Dekiru' right?" I commented out loud with what was undoubtably a bright smile on my face. I felt that I had successfully made it crystal clear that they were wrong. However, their responses didn't exactly make me feel better. Specifically, this one-

"I guess. There's nothing wrong with believing that if it helps you sleep better." Another one of my classmates, Ryotaro Hondo commented with a blank expression on his face.

"Don't get the wrong idea. It's De-Midoriya who wanted me to call him that. I was only accepting his request. That's all." Horikita interjected while staring at the textbook on her desk. Her response made me smile as I looked back at her.

"So, it's Horikita who has a crush on Midoriya!" Onodera yelled out as the entire class stared at me and Horikita.

"W-Wha- Horikita spoke only to be cut off by-

"WHAT?!" My much louder shout of the same word.

"I told you to stop acting like an idiot, Onodera." Hasebe commented before karate chopping Onodera on her forehead for the third time today.

"Well, how about 'you' stop karate chopping me!" Onodera snapped back with the face of a tiger as she growled at Hasebe. The latter of which had a serious expression on her face while holding up her hand in the air, making things crystal clear for Onodera that she would be karate chopped again if she were to say another word. So, Onodera accepted defeat and slumped back into her seat with a look of utter defeat on her face. However, in the midst of all this chaos, I heard my other friend mutter, which caught my attention.

"D-Deku?" Sakura muttered with a dumbfounded look on her face as she stared at me like a deer in the headlights. It was then that I realized my fatal mistake from the other day-

'I'm the hero Deku. Remember it.'

'AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!' I screamed internally as my jaw dropped to the ground. I completely forgot that I told Sakura that on a whim! Which means she knows…

… SHE KNOWS I'M THE HERO DEKU!

"You. Me. Outside. NOW!" Before I knew it, I ran toward Sakura's desk and slammed my hands onto her desk. I then made that demand before taking her hand and running faster than the eye could see outside of the classroom. Everyone was left dumbfounded by this sudden turn of events.

"Told you so." Hasebe commented with a smug smile on her face. Well, mostly everyone. But I didn't know that! Because I was too busy with-

"Please, don't tell anyone." I spoke as quietly as possible so as to not alert the attention of my classmates but loud enough so that Sakura could hear me. I said this while kneeling toward her with my head planted firmly on the ground. This surprised Sakura as I heard her go 'EEEEEP!' Which only made me realize that I scared her.

'Oh no! Now, she'll tell everyone for sure! If only I had Shinso's Quirk, then I'd be able to make her forget about my identity with 'Brainwash!' But then again… that would only be 'temporarily.' I'm so screwed!' I thought internally while sweating bullets onto the ground below me. But to my utmost surprise-

"… Ok." Sakura replied as I looked back at her to see an innocent looking smile on her face.

"Y-You really mean it?" I replied with what was surely a nervous look on my face as she nodded in affirmation.

"Yep. I mean we are friends after all, right?" Sakura replied with a bright smile on her face as she closed her eyes and extended her hand toward me. I then grasped it before standing back up. I was so thankful that I had no choice but to-

"Thank you, Sakura!" I replied, while hugging her tightly in my arms. Sakura as a result went 'EEEEEEEEEEP!' As her eyes shot wide open. But her sudden scream made me open my eyes as I noticed that we were being watched.

"Oof! Y-You noticed me! I-I mean… I'm just sitting here so don't mind me… a-hahaha." Onodera replied as she awkwardly laughed off me catching her looking at me and Sakura. Not only that was she recording the entire exchange we had on her phone, but she also brought her entire desk (Seat included) Outside of the classroom! But while to do such a feat in the span of less than a minute must have required a herculean feat of strength, I was more focused on the fact that she was recording us!

"Delete that video right now." I declared while glaring daggers at her as I slammed my hands onto her desk. But in response she looked up at the ceiling for a second until-

"Can't. I'm streaming this. Too bad so sad." Onodera replied with a wide grin on her face.

"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?!" I snapped back at the top of my lungs and slammed my hands onto her desk once more. Well, on the bright side, I said nothing about being the hero, Deku. So, it won't make me look suspicious…

… HOWEVER, this does NOT help make me and Sakura look like we're 'just friends.' ESPECIALLY, when taken out of context like this. Which means I'm going to have a lot more explaining to do to my classmates. Wonderful. Just…

… Wonderful.

"Haah…" I sighed in defeat as I crumbled like a house of cards and collapsed to the ground.

"D-Deku?!" Sakura yelled out with what was surely a worried look on her face.

"No! Don't do that in front of the camera! I'll get demonetized for sure!" Onodera snapped back as she instinctively stood up from her seat.

"Onodera." The voice of Professor Chabashira spoke as Onodera almost jumped out of her skin after hearing it.

"Make sure to put your desk and seat back into the classroom before the bell rings, unless you want to write a twenty-page essay for me on Friday. You better hurry if you don't. You only have thirty seconds left." Chabashira continued as Onodera picked up her entire desk (Chair included) and ran back into the classroom faster than I could blink. Not that I could see her with my face planted on the ground.

"Sakura. Help Midoriya up. I've got an important announcement that you both need to hear." Chabashira finished before walking into the classroom. Once again Sakura helped me stand back up, but I could barely register that, as I was taken aback by what the Professor meant by the word 'Announcement.' I knew that it must have been big news. But…

… I had no idea what her announcement would entail and just how much things were about to change.

"Students, I have an announcement to make. After the incident that took place earlier this month where our School's former Chairman, Narumori Sakayanagi had been relieved from his position and arrested for his crimes, me and the rest of the faculty had been searching for another to take his place. We've elected a replacement. That's why we're all going to the school auditorium so that each of you could see the new Chairman in person. That is all." Chabashira explained in her usual monotone way of speaking. But I couldn't help but be reminded of-

'That man, I revered as a sensei. A true teacher who never once hit me unlike my father. But don't be deceived, he's a cold, calculating, and ruthless man, far more than I ever was. You could have had it easy with me if you just learned when to back down and know your place but no! You just had to take the last thing that mattered to me away from me?! How did it feel?! Destroying my very last pleasure in life?!' Of the former Chairman's words. I just hoped that he was wrong. That his words weren't a premonition for someone much worse to take his place.

Me and the rest of Class D then did as Chabashira requested us to do. But as we all entered the school auditorium, I noticed that we weren't alone. It wasn't just the Chairman on the stage, but all of the Classes were in attendance. Not just the first years, but the second years, and the third years as well. Which meant that all three hundred students were here. Or two hundred and ninety-nine since I doubt Horikita's brother is present. She did tell me that her brother was going to be relieved of his charges. But I had no clue where or when that would happen.

But to be honest, I was kind of feeling awkward being surrounded by so many people I didn't know, let alone laid eyes on before. That's right. Horikita told me about a ceremony where all of AN's students were supposed to meet since the school was accepting the new first years. However, since I was unconscious in the nurse's office at the time, I completely missed it. This meant that this was my first time seeing everyone else who was enrolled in this school. I looked around to see if there was anyone I recognized, only to see-

"Hey, Deku!" Ichinose yelled out with a smile on her face as we both noticed each other at the same time.

"Hey, Ichinose!" I replied while I waved my arms around while thinking to myself (It's always nice to see her!) while other people around me commented with 'dude chill.' I heard them and looked at the ceiling out of embarrassment with what was surely a face resembling a tomato. But that didn't last for long as I was caught off guard by the tapping on the speaker on the stage that pierced my ears.

"Great. Now that I have all of your attention. Let me introduce myself. My name is Atsuomi Ayanokoji. But you will all refer to me as Chairman Ayanokoji from now on. And as your new Chairman I have big plans for this prestigious school. But before that, allow me to show my gratitude to the person who made sure that the former Chairman had been punished for his crimes. That person being Izuku Midoriya. Come up to the stage." My school's new Chairman, Atsuomi Ayanokoji introduced himself with a smile on his face. Wait a minute!

'D-D-Did he just ask me to come up onto the stage?!' I thought internally while sweating profusely.

"Izuku Midoriya? Is he not in attendance?" Chairman Ayanokoji asked with a disappointed look on his face. Oh, phew! If I just pretend, I'm not here then surely, I don't have to come up onto the stag-

"He's right here! Come on, Midoriya. Don't be shy!" Kushida yelled out with a smile on her face while lightly pushing my back. I then felt the stares of hundreds of students onto me that were completely different from the looks I received back in my class. The looks I was getting now were intense gazes that felt like I was being burned as if each and every one of them were trying to shoot heat vision at me. I then awkwardly made my way onto the stage.

"I-I'm Izuku Midoriya. N-Nice to meet y-you, C-Chairman A-Ayanokoji." I muttered while stuttering as I bowed toward the new Chairman from the other end of the stage, much to the latter's surprise.

"You don't need to be afraid. Come on, get over here." Chairman Ayanokoji asked as I had no choice but to meet him face to face. It was then that I noticed his appearance for the very first time. His face was quite stern looking even though he tried his best to smile. His other facial features made it clear that he was middle aged. He also had brown hair and eyes that matched his hair color. But even though he seemed well past his prime, he was quite muscular. But as I was in the middle of recognizing his appearance for the first time-

"It's an honor to meet the person who brought down that criminal and helped cleanse this school. You have done me and this fine establishment a great service that I intend to repay right now, Izuku Midoriya." Chairman Ayanokoji continued as he shook my hand firmly in front of the hundreds of students below us. Hearing his voice reminded me of All Might, in the way they had similar sounding voices. I instinctively lowered my guard as a result. But I was confused by what he meant by 'repay?'

"Repay?" And I found myself asking just that with what was surely a confused look on my face. Chairman Ayanokoji noticed this and smiled.

"Of course! If it wasn't for you then I wouldn't be this school's Chairman right now! So, for granting me such an honor, I feel that it is only right to repay you for your efforts by making your Class, Class D, the new Class A." Professor Ayanokoji announced while giving a thumbs up to me as he told me those words. But not just to me but everyone else too as he spoke through the speaker. Everyone then reacted accordingly.

"WAIT, WHAT?!" Everyone, or at least the majority of the first years responded like that. (Including me of course.) Which meant this caught the attention of a certain girl from Class A that I had come to know.

"This has to be a mistake!" Arisu Sakayanagi yelled out as I noticed her expression from up on the stage. The look on her face was a mix of confusion, worry and anger. I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. Especially after what happened with her father.

"You must be, Arisu. Your father, Narumori was a good friend of mine. I explicitly remember him talking about you from time to time. I also recall the look in his eyes that showed such disappointment. So, since you were nothing more than a disappointment in his eyes, not to mention the daughter of said criminal, it's only fitting that you and the rest of your Class are now the new Class D." Chairman Ayanokoji replied while giving Arisu a thumbs down with a smile on his face. I then heard Sakayanagi gasp before she-

"S-She collapsed!" Someone amidst the crowd yelled out as I was taken aback completely by this sudden turn of events. I realized at that moment that it must have felt like the ground caved in on Arisu. So, she couldn't help but fall. Not only was I responsible for taking her father's pedestal away, but I also took hers away too. Even after everything she said and did, I couldn't help but feel like it was all my fault. I almost got off the stage so that I could help her but before I could move an inch-

"Hahaha… looks like she's and her father will both be six feet under soon enough." Chairman Ayanokoji muttered away from the microphone in his hands so that no one would have heard him. But I did. It was then that I realized that this man was nothing like All Might, and just the type of man that Arisu's father was describing. A cold, calculating and ruthless man who couldn't help but kick a girl while she's down. I couldn't help but glare daggers at him in response for being so cruel. The Chairman noticed this and smirked.

"Hey, what's the big idea, looking at me like that? Don't tell me you're feeling bad for her? That girl had this coming. Someone who needs a cane to walk has no right to be one of the people who leads this country into a new era." Chairman Ayanokoji continued while covering his hand on the mic so that no one would hear our conversation.

"And you will be?!" I snapped back with a voice that was almost a shout, but I managed to lower it just enough so that my words wouldn't be heard by the students below. Not out of respect for this man but because I didn't want him to consider me an enemy. Not while he's holding all the cards and could expel me without a second thought if I didn't keep quiet. He noticed this and smiled.

"Glad to know that you can keep quiet. But to answer your question, I won't be the man who leads this country into the future. That honor goes to my son." Chairman Ayanokoji replied with a sinister smile on his face.

"Y-Your son?" I replied with a face that was surely one that was confused as I noticed the Chairman click his tongue. It then became clear to me that he regretted letting lose that piece of information. But before I could inquire further regarding what he meant-

"With that out of the way, I have another announcement to make. I have personally reinstated Manabu Horikita of his position as the head of the Student Council. With him being falsely convicted for crimes that were not of his own doing, I made sure that he was given a full pardon. He's also right over there." Chairman Ayanokoji announced before pointing at the other end of the stage as the man he was referring into made his entrance. I then noticed Horikita's brother after not seeing him for a few weeks as he made his way to the center of the stage.

"Manabu Horikita, I congratulate you for putting up with such a terrible punishment ill fitting of someone with your talents." Chairman Ayanokoji continued before shaking Mananu's hand. But while they were shaking each other's hands I caught Manabu staring back at me as I looked to the ground out of embarrassment.

"It is with that, that I have one final announcement to make. Regarding the 'hero' who fought against that sludge creature the other day, I have made the decision to issue a warrant for his arrest. Which is why I'm personally assembling a task force to apprehend him. Don't be mistaken that 'hero' is nothing more than a vigilante who deserves to be put behind bars. Anyone who gives details regarding his true identity will be rewarded handsomely, I can assure each of you of that…" Chairman Ayanokoji continued before pausing for a few seconds until-

"… But for anyone who seeks to help that vigilante evade capture, I will guarantee that they share the same fate." Chairman Ayanokoji finished before looking at me for a second with a grin on his face as my eyes went wide.

'O-Oh crap! D-Does he know?!' I thought to myself but before I could finish that thought-

"That is all I have to say. You may all return to your respective classes." Chairman Ayanokoji finished as he made his exit. There was nothing more that I could say or do so I had no choice but to reunite with my classmates below me.

It was just as I said earlier, things were beginning to change again. It wouldn't be long when I realized just what the Chairman meant by 'Task Force' as well as what his announcements would mean for the future of my class, the new Class A. But this wasn't the Class A that I was familiar with, nor did we earn this position fairly.

… And I wasn't the only person who thought that as I would soon learn just how much anger the students of the other classes held for me and the rest of my class for this sudden turn of events. It really wouldn't be much longer as I would soon find myself on an island with the rest of my class and all the other first years where things would change once more as I would have no choice but to suit up as the hero Deku once again to do battle with an unprecedented threat…

… A threat that I was all too familiar with from my tenure at UA. But unbeknownst to me, the seeds for something even worse were being planted around me. I just didn't notice at the time-

"Horikita-San. May I speak with you in private for a bit?" Chairman Ayanokoji asked Manabu as he nodded in affirmation. They then went behind the curtains near the back of the stage. There someone all too familiar was present. Doctor Garaki.

"Head Doctor? What's all this about?" Manabu asked as he was quickly growing suspicious, and the Chairman noticed this.

"Now, now. Everything's going to be okay, don't you worry. I just wanted to give you a proposition." Chairman Ayanokoji replied with a reassuring smile on his face. This got Manabu's attention has he muttered 'proposition?' With a confused look on his face.

"That's right. My proposition concerns what I was discussing earlier about the 'vigilante.' You are a man of many talents that much is already obvious given your position as Student Council President. Not to mention you'll surely be valedictorian of your class considering your impressive grades. You have also shown impeccable physical abilities as shown in last year's Sports Festival. So, what would you say to cooperating with me as the 'second in command' of my Task Force?" Chairman Ayanokoji asked as he maintained his smile.

"You do realize that I'm only human. How am I supposed to compete with someone who is a bona fide superhuman?" Manabu replied as he was already aware of the vigilante with his role as Student Council President already having been reinstated earlier today. Along with the fact that he was explained about the situation by Akane Tachibana. (His Assistant from Chapter 9)

"What if I told you that we could give you a similar power?" Doctor Garaki asked with a smile on his face that was utterly fake as Manabu raised his eyebrow upon hearing his words and turned his attention to the Doctor. And then…

"You have my attention." Manabu replied with a serious expression on his face. I genuinely didn't know it at the time, but it would hit me like a speeding truck when I learned what was really going on behind the curtains. Because the next time I would meet Horikita's brother in person…

… he would make it crystal clear that he was now my enemy.
