Subaru bowed down to the white haired girl.
"And who might you be?" Subaru looked up at her and asked.
"My name is emilia. I'm a royal candidate for the throne and I am backed by roswaal j. Mathers." Emilia said
" Please stand up. What purpose have you arrived at this mansion for." Emilia asked subaru as Subaru stood up and made eye contact with her.
"Umm I was wondering. When does the royal selection start."
"Oh it starts two months from now." Emilia answered confused on why Subaru came all the way to her mansion to ask her that.
"Well isn't Arlam village under your control ?"Subaru asked bluntly
"Well it's actually ruled by both me and roswaal, what are you getting at?"Emilia was starting to get annoyed by Subaru not getting right to the heart of the matter.
"Can I live in your village? I'll protect it from raiders and other threats like mabeasts and I'll help out with the village tasks." Subaru bluntly responded
"Why would you do that? I'm assuming you aren't doing it for free so what do you want in exchange." Emilia saw right through Subaru
"Well I'd like a ride to the capital the day before the royal selection starts." Subaru responded bluntly.
"And why don't you just head back to the capital on your own." Emilia asked confused
"Well for one thing i need to get training before the royal selection, and I also am quite lost. I've also taken a liking to the townspeople." Subaru responded
"Very well Subaru natsuki I will provide you with a ride on the day of the royal selection in exchange for your overseeing of roswaals village." Emilia responded with a smile. Rem was quite shocked at the fact Emilia accepted Subarus offer so quickly, rem gave Subaru a "if you try anything ill skin you alive" stare.
"I guess it's time for me to head back to the village." Subaru said as he activated speed demon. he rushed out of the mansion's front yard. Subaru quickly jumped over the closed gate and ran toward the village.
"Quite a strange fellow. What do you think of him rem?" Emilia asked while watching rem unhook the earth dragon and lead it back into the stables.
"I don't quite trust him yet but he seems like a nice guy." Rem said masking her feelings of hate towards him.
"Hey puck, what are your thoughts on him?" Emilia asked her crystal as a flying white cat emerged from it.
"He seems like a nice guy. I couldn't see any hostility in his thoughts, and he held you in high regards even though you are a half elf." Puck said
Subaru eventually arrived at the village and asked around to see if the villagers were having any troubles
"Sir, do you have any jobs that I can do for you." Subaru asked a short old man with white hair.
"Well I was planning on gathering firewood but my back is simply too frail to be able to chop down any trees. I'll pay you 10 silver coins if you can get me a few pieces of firewood.
"That's a deal. By the way, what's your name?" Subaru politely asked as he shook the old man's hand
"It's Muraosa." the old man responded before picking up and axe laying against his house and handing it to Subaru.
Subaru quickly bolted off into the forest and started rapidly chopping down trees. After 10 minutes of chopping he had cut down 10 trees. He split each tree into smaller firewood pieces. Subaru quickly dragged the firewood to the old man's house and took the 10 silvers. The old man was quite surprised with how quickly Subaru worked. Subaru bolted off and began accepting other jobs from the villagers. These jobs were all pretty simple but they were great ways for Subaru to push himself and become stronger. Eventually after 2 or so hours of working Subaru decided to set up camp in a forest near the village. He had a sleeping bag which was a gift from one of the villagers Subaru had helped. Subaru laid out his sleeping bag and slowly drifted off into sleep.
"Get up weakling." A familiar voice called out to Subaru. Subaru suddenly found himself in the mock battle room of the royal knight training grounds. He looked up to see Julius standing over him. Subaru quickly lunged at Julius but Julius tripped him over with his foot as he sidestepped. Julius then proceeded to beat him mercilessly with a training sword. He was being beaten to a bloody pulp mercilessly. Eventually the blows stopped and Subaru woke up. Subaru was surrounded by wolf-like mabeasts. They had picked the worst time to attack Subaru since Subaru was angry as hell.
"I'll make sure to clear out this entire forest of you guys before the sun rise." Subaru yelled and he furrowed his brow and rushed at the horde of mabeast. He activated courageous heart and cracked open a few of the mabeast skulls with his fists. However a few mabeasts snuck up on him and bit him on his back. Subaru quickly spun around and smashed those mabeasts sending them flying into the others.
Eventually courageous heart ran out so Subaru activated speed demon and threw a barrage of punches at the remaining wolf game. He was strong enough to kill them since he had done a ton of strength training. He killed 10 more mabeasts however they just kept coming. Subaru ran out of speed demon so he quickly activated unbreakable wall. He had picked up a large log laying in the forest and started beating the mabeasts with them. No matter how many he killed they just kept coming back. Eventually Subaru was overwhelmed and thrown to the ground the mabeasts started chomping on him. Subaru was about to die when courageous heart went off cooldown. He quickly pummeled all the dogs on top of him and got back up. The mabeasts started running away so he decided no to chase after them. Subaru was mad that he hadn't kept his promise of killing all the mabeasts but he decided to gather up the dead bodies of mabeasts and put them in a pile. He then took his sleeping bag and slept on the pile of dead mabeasts.
Subaru had woken up and quickly checked to see if he was still bleeding from all the bites the mabeasts had delivered onto him. But when he checked the wounds were gone and all that remained were scars.
(So I have super regeneration? That's a good power to have" Subaru decided to drag a few of the wolf-like mabeast corpses to the center of the village. Petra saw Subaru and started following him like a stalker
"Hey Sub- wow you killed those mabeasts?" Petra asked as she watched Subaru drag them into the center of the village.
"My my you are quite a lively young man." The village elder and leader milde chuckled . Milde was a short old lady with purple hair and regular attire on. Milde watched as Subaru lifted the bodies with ease.
"Do these mabeasts have any good materials that can be harvested from them?" Subaru said putting down the corpses of the mabeasts.
"Well their fur is very valuable and so are their claws and teeth. How much would you like for me to buy them off your hands." Milde asked politely
"Don't worry I'll give you all the mabeasts for free." Subaru said with a chuckle.
" I can't accept that It would be bad on my conscience if I didnt pay you. You killed more than just these two?" The village elder was bewildered at the fact Subaru was able to kill more than just the mabeasts he had in his hands
"I killed 30 or so, so how about a copper coin for each corpse." subaru said, dropping the mabeast corpses in front of the village elder.
"You could easily get 5 silvers per body." The elder admitted.
"Don't worry these mabeasts are on clearance." Subaru said laughing his ass off.
"I don't understand what clearance means but I'll pay you a copper coin for each body since you insisted." The elder
Eventually after a few trips from the village to the forest Subaru had brought all of the mabeast bodies into the village. Milde paid Subaru 40 copper coins even though there were only 30 bodies. Subaru decided not to question it and began helping out around the village. Everyone in the village was fond of him including the children.
"H-hey Subaru I got something for you." Petra said with her cheeks flushed red. Subaru got down on 1 knee.
"What do you have petra." Subaru cheerfully asked Petra, causing her face to somehow turn even redder than it was before.
"I got you a flower." Petra said, handing Subaru a pretty blue flower.
"Petra this flower is beautiful but I think you should plant it beside one of the paths in this village." Subaru said, patting Petra on the head.
"If you insist I'll go plant it right away." Petra said running off to go plant the flower. Subaru decided to head back into the forest for the day. He was about to walk into the forest when he saw something strange. It wasnt a man in strange attire covering him head to toe. The clothing he wore was black with bits of red on it. The person didn't seem to notice him so Subaru quickly snuck up behind him and knocked him out. He then dragged him into the village for interrogation. Subaru made it to the village elders house and told her of the situation
"Do you know what faction this guy is from?" Subaru asked while ripping off the mask of the person to reveal it was actually a pretty woman.
"She is a witch cultist." The village elder exclaimed in shock. Subaru remembered what rem had told him about witch cultists. Subaru was shocked that a witch cultist had gotten all the way to arlam shook her awake and pinned her to the wall while he interrogated her
"Number and location of your allies." Subaru furiously barked as he slapped her.
"I'm not telling you a damn thing." The witch cultist said.
I have other ways of convincing you." Subaru ominously stated as he punched her in the gut causing her to spew blood out from her mouth.
"tell me exactly where your allies are and I won't have to kill you." Subaru asked her but took her silence as a no. He then punched her in the gut again causing her to spew even more blood.
"Fine if you won't talk then I guess I'll just have to kill you." Subaru said with a cold and calculating demeanor.
"Wait I'll tell you just please don't kill me." The witch cultist quickly changed her stance on the matter.
"The sin archbishop of sloth is coming to arlam village to capture the one known as Subaru natsuki." This shocked Subaru since he didn't realize that the witch cult even knew about him.
"And why is he after Subaru natsuki?" Subaru questioned her but got no response. He chopped her neck, knocking her unconscious.
" I need you to evacuate the village and bring them to the mansion. I'm sure emilia will allow you to stay when you inform her of the situation." Subaru said before exiting the building.
"Everyone please exit your house." Subaru shouted as loud as he could. A bunch of villagers exited their houses and stared at Subaru in confusion.
"I have been informed that the witch cult will be attacking this village in a few days. I need all of you to exit the village and prepare your wagons. You all will be staying at Emilia's manor until I have dealt with the threat." Subaru said in a commanding voice.
"I need all of you to bring food, water and other necessities like clothes . I will fend off and hopefully defeat the witch cult. Hurry up and get moving; they could strike anytime." Subaru stated
It took a few hours of preparing but everyone in the village got out and headed to the Mansion.
"How long until the witch cultists arrive lady." Subaru questioned holding the witch cultist with 1 arm and a sword in the other. the village elder had gifted him the sharpest sword in the village before departing.
"It can't be your Subaru natsuki?" The cultist gasped and started laughing like a madman.
"Yes, now answer the damn question." Subaru was getting annoyed with her. He was about to knock her out again when she responded
"They should be here in the next hour or so." The witch cultist laughed at how angry Subaru was.
"Well then I've got time to prepare." Subaru said as he knocked her out and stored her away in one of the houses. He decided not to take any chances and tied her up from head to toe. Subaru was gonna prepare for them by setting up traps but he couldn't think straight due to the stress of the situation, so he just sat in one of the village houses and waited.
2 or so hours went by when Subaru heard something going on outside the house. He stepped outside and saw that there were several witch cultists searching the houses. Subaru quickly rushed out and beheaded 5 of them with speed demon. He then looked around but there didn't seem to be any more of them, until he turned around…
"Hello Subaru natsuki I have come to capture you." a green haired man whom Subaru assumed was petelguese spoke.
"And I assume you're the leader of this band of misfits." Subaru laughed as the other cultists behind petelguese started charging up spells. However petelguese quickly motioned for them to stop.
"Subaru we can either do this with the way of love or the painful way. The choice is yours." Petelguese responded shakily
"Fine I surrender," Subaru said, dropping his sword and walking over to petelguese.
"I expected you to resist more." Petelgeuse Was confused at how easily Subaru gave up. Subaru got into range he activated courageous heart and punched petelgeuse sending him flying. The rest of the witch cultists immediately opened fire on Subaru, slinging spells at him.
Subaru was able to dodge most of the spells but a few of them hit him. He didn't take much damage due to his battle outfit being magic resistant. Subaru rushed into the crowd of witch cultist and began knocking them out one by one. Eventually he knocked out all 40 of them and prepared to fight the final boss.
Petelguese was incredibly annoyed at the fact Subaru had knocked out all his subordinates.
Subaru was suddenly lifted up into the sky by something he was unable to see. Whatever it was, it was choking him. Subaru then felt several hands squeezing all over his body.
Subarus' vision was getting fuzzier.
(I'm gonna die if I don't do something quick) Subaru thought to himself. Subaru quickly activated unbreakable wall and tried to peel off whatever was grabbing him to no avail.
"Emilia what is happening." Rem questioned Emilia because she saw several wagons filled with people entering the mansion.
"The village elder has informed me that the witch cult is attacking the village. Subaru stayed in the village to fend them off while the village people escaped. Apparently a sun archbishop showed up too." Emilia said In a cold demeanor.
Rem was shocked at the fact Subaru had evacuated the village. Rem also realized that Subaru wasn't a witch cultist and might be fighting an entire army by himself.
"May I please provide assistance to Subaru natsuki. I fear he won't be able to beat them on his own." Rem politely asked Emilia and bolted off towards the village when emilia had nodded.
(This idiot is gonna get himself killed fighting the witch cult. I have to save him so I can punish him myself.) Rem thought as she arrive in the village. A horn sprouted from her head
(Is this really how it ends. I can't die without apologizing to Julius or without sharing rice balls with Reinhard. I need to help felt become king of lagunica. I can't die not now!) Subaru was panicking as he slowly began to lose consciousness. Petelguese was laughing as whatever was holding Subaru began to squeeze tighter.
Subaru heard something strange though. It was the sound of chains. Suddenly a ball and chain hit petelgeuse in the stomach, sending him flying. it was rem. Subaru couldn't quite make out what was happening but suddenly rem was lifted up along with Subaru. The grip around Subarus neck had loosened.
"You will now watch as this hopeless lover is killed for attempting to save Subaru natsuki." petelgeuse maniacally laughed as rem was being choked to death.
"Leave her out of his petelgeuse it's a fight between you and me."
Why would I since she decided to interfere in my lesson on love she must die. Subaru watched as rem started foaming out of the mouth. Subaru suddenly felt strange. It was as if all three of his powers were fusing together.
(I feel strange. I need to defeat petelguese I need to save everyone I can't give up!) Suddenly an explosion emitted from Subarus body. As the smoke cleared Subaru had escaped from the grasp. He was glowing multiple colors. That being green, purple and red. His chest had a red heart shaped aura on it. His arms and legs were glowing bright green. And the rest of his body was glowing purple. Subaru quickly appeared behind petelguese and punched him, sending him flying and causing rem to fall to the ground. petelguese got sent flying into a building. Petelguese quickly climbed out of the rubble of the old house and sent black like hands at Subaru. Subaru was somehow able to see them now and threw out a barrage of punches shattering them.
"This can't be, you can see the gift of sloth!" Petelguese was in a full rage and sent out hundreds of hands at Subaru. Subaru destroyed all these hands with ease and appeared right in front of petelgeuse . Subaru grabbed Petelgeuse by the arm and threw him 50 feet in the air. He then jumped up and down spiked petelgeuse into the ground below. Petelgeuse instantly died, his body an unrecognizable meat puddle on the ground.
Subaru landed on the ground and he stopped glowing and fell to the ground unconscious.
Subaru woke up in a comfy bed. He looked up to see Rem and a girl who looked nearly identical to her standing at the foot of the bed.
"Sister sister we must inform Lady emilia that sir Subaru is awake." The twin next to Rem said.
"Wait." Subaru said but both of them rushed out of the room he was in. Subaru decided to get up and leave the room as well. He started walking down a long hallway for a few minutes but realized it was a looping hallway.
"Hmm so I guess I just have to open the correct door to break this loop. My judgment tells me it's the first door on the right." Subaru thought aloud as he opened the door to see a large library with a nicely dressed child. She had blonde drill hair.
"I guess my judgment was correct. Hey there kid, what are you doing all alone in here?" Subaru asked but quickly realized that the child was dangerous. Subaru rushed out of the library and ran to the left. Eventually he ran into Emilia who was probably heading to his room. Rem and her sister were walking behind her
"Subaru you shouldn't be up so early you need time to rest after that big fight." Emilia said, flicking Subaru on the head.
"Oww. But I feel like I could run a few miles." Subaru argued with her but she picked him up and dragged him back to his room. (Damn this girl is strong.) Subaru thought as she gently placed him down on the bed
"I'll let you head back to the village after you've had dinner with roswaal and our staff." Emilia said, slamming the door shut as she left. (What is that girl's problem, I save the village and she puts me under house arrest.) Subaru chuckled at his own joke.
Since Subaru knew he wasn't getting out of her anytime soon he decided to go to sleep for a few hours. A knock on the door woke him up.
"You can come in whoever is knocking." Subaru said as the door creaked open. Rem walked in and stood in front of his bed
"Lord roswaal has requested you come to the dining room. He plans to reward you for protecting the village in his absence. Follow me, I will lead you to the dining room." Rem said, grabbing Subarus hand and pulling him out of bed and through the mansion. They ended up in a dining room with Emilia and rems sister waiting for them. It had a very long and stylish wooden table with a few plates of food on it.
"Hmm, where is roswaal." Subaru questioned Rem as she went and stood beside her sister.
"Right behind you Subaru natsuki." Subaru turned to see a tall figure in find clothing with clown makeup on. Subaru bowed to him and stood up and sat beside Emilia at the dining table.
"Subaru natsuki I hear you were the one who saved my dear employee rem and captured over 40 witch cultists. You also killed Petelgeuse, the sin archbishop of sloth." Roswaal stated bluntly as he sat in between the maids at the end of the table.
"Yes I believe I did but I couldn't have done it without rem's help." Subaru stated bluntly causing rem to blush.
"Let's skip all the formalities and get right down to business. Since you saved a village in my domain I shall provide you with whatever you wish." Roswaal responded bluntly
"Well what's the best blacksmith you know?" Subaru politely asked roswaal
"Well I do know one blacksmith by the name of Elian smitten."
Everyone gasped at the mention of his name. Subaru assumed he is one of the best blacksmiths in lagunica
"Well, do you think you could get him to forge 2 katanas for me?" Subaru asked and Roswaal nodded. Everyone was shocked at the fact Roswaal was going to ask the best blacksmith in lagunica to make weapons for Subaru.
"If that is what you waant I will seeee to it that it gets done." Roswaal stated.
" I guess I will be heading back to the village now." Subaru got up and prepared to exit the dining room before Rem interrupted him.
"I can give you a ride back to the village on our carriage." Rem said
"I wouldn't want to trouble you with that." Subaru attempted to leave but Rem kept insisting to give him a ride to the village. Subaru eventually caved in and accepted
After a few minutes of riding on the carriage Subaru and rem arrived in the village. Everyone was waiting there to greet him.
(Did rem plan to surprise me with the villagers. Is that why she was so adamant on giving me a ride.) Subaru thought to himself but decided to leave the matter to rest as he jumped out of the wagon and walked up to the crowd of townspeople. The milde pushed her way out of the crowd and shook Subarus hand.
"The people of this village regard you as a hero amongst heroes, go out and greet them." Milde whispered into Subarus ear. Subaru was bombarded with gifts of all kinds. They even threw a feast for him and rem.
After a few hours the village went back to usual. Subaru helped out the villagers with tasks until it started getting dark outside. He went back into the forest and switched into his tracksuit before going to sleep in his sleeping bag. However a bunch of mabeasts woke him up and he killed all of them this time around letting none of them leave. Throughout the battle Subaru tried to use that fused power thing he did against petelgeuse but decided it would take time before he could fully control it.
The next month went by in the blink of an eye with Subaru helping out with the village and even building a wall and gate to protect the village from any hostile forces. However the first day after the first month Subaru was invited to roswaals mansion to grab the katana he asked to be forged.
"Here are the katana you asked for." Rem and her sister held up a box in the dining room with two beautiful katana in it. Subaru quickly took the two katana out and drew them from their sheathes. They both looked the same with an orange siya and an orange dragon climbing up the blades. The handles were black and orange and they were both beautiful katanas. The Tsuba was a beautiful blend of orange and black. Subaru quickly sheathed them back and attached them to his uwa-obi; he then promptly left the mansion and went about his day. At night time he went to sleep but was woken up again. However it wasn't because of mabeast, but 2 girls in beautiful hakama and kimonos. They were wearing the same outfits as Subaru.
"And who are you two? Subaru said, rubbing his eyes as he got up.
"Master, we are your blades." The two girls said Bowing down in front of Subaru.
"What do you mean you are my blades?" Subaru checked his side and saw that his katana were gone. He then pieced together the evidence and realized that his katana had transformed into two beautiful youthful girls.
"Please rise, my blades." Subaru said as they obliged. He inspected them. Both of the girls had mostly black hair with orange tips.
"So you are my two katanas and you somehow became sentient and transformed into humans?" Subaru was dumbfounded
"We did not become like this on our own. It was thanks to you. You imbued souls into us and gave us life."
"That still doesn't explain the fact that you became human."
" You are able to change us from sword to human as you wish master." Subaru was even more thunderstruck at the fact he had that ability. Subaru decided to test his power out
"Change back into swords." Subaru said as the transformed into blades and flew back into their sheathes. Subaru could hear their thoughts somehow. They were proclaiming their love to him.
Subaru decided not to fret over it and went back to sleep. He woke up and decided to change them back into humans.
For the next month Subaru trained, helped out around the village, eliminated mabeasts, and taught the Village adults how to defend themselves against bandits. Subarus hair had grown out down to his waist. He put his hair into a ponytail whilst still leaving some of his hair to hand at his waist.
Eventually the day of the royal selection arrived and Subaru rode with roswaal and Emilia in a dragon drawn carriage.
"You may change into humans." Subaru said as his two katanas turned into girls sitting on each of his sides. Emilia and Roswaal were shocked at this.
"Your swords can change into humans?" Emilia asked Subaru mesmerized by the two girls at his side
"Apparently I can imbue souls into objects and change their forms into humans." Subaru said bluntly and the two girls nuzzled his decided not to question him any further.
Eventually they arrived at the royal selection but since there was still a lot of time left Subaru decided to grab a bite to eat. When he entered a restaurant he saw a familiar face. Anastasia and her camp along with Julius had taken up most of the tables but there was a three chair table that Subaru and his 2 beautiful companions sat down at. Subaru could tell everyone in Anastasia's camp was eying them except Julius. Subaru got food for him and his katanas and they all dug in
Eventually Subaru and his companions had had their fill so he transformed them back into katana as they flew back into his sheathe.
Everyone in Anastasia's camp was murmuring about what just happened.
"What's got all of you so spooked." Julius asked them in place of Lady Anastasia.
"That man who just walked in here with two girls turned them into swords after they ate and left." A buff dog man whispered into Julius's ear. Both Julius and Anastasia were bewildered by the dogmans description but decided to finish eating and leave.
