Chapter 21
Towa is stretching her body for a few laps around the track outside of the school. "She tried to threaten you in the classroom?" She asks Moroha who is also doing her own stretching. "I just put my tri poster board into the spot where our teacher wanted us to leave until presentation and then Mai came in and tried to make me put my project somewhere else in the room. Heh like she has the right to boss me around." Moroha answers.
"You need to be careful from now on, Moroha. There's no telling what could happen next." Setsuna warns the quarter demon. "I will until when it happens. But for the record, you two should be careful as well." Moroha waves it off before running.
The twins run after Moroha with their own demon speeds. Shocking enough almost every single student in their gym class are just as fast as them. "Ok, I know that demons are supposed to be fast, but not like this." Towa said in surprised.
"We might as well get our butts going if we were going to be them." Moroha grins as she runs a bit faster than before. Towa and the Setsuna take Moroha's advice and do the same thing. Running so far has really put them in the lead of the mile run.
"Who would think that those three could do it?" The gym teacher said in surprise. She clicks for each student to cross the line for how long it took them to complete the mile run. "Very impressive, girls." She applauds to them after they stopped a few feet from the finish line.
"Oh, it's no big deal. We were born to run fast." Moroha said back casually.
"Born to run fast? I'd say born to win for the track and field." The teacher smiles brightly to Moroha.
"No thanks. I'm not into that kind of thing." Moroha declines the offer.
"Are you kidding? With you on the team, we'd be the top winners of the city." The teacher tries to persuade the quarter demon.
"Hey, if you want someone to join the team it should be Towa." Moroha points with her clawed thumb towards her cousin.
"Towa. Could you come here." The teacher calls out to the white-haired half demon.
"Yes. What is it, sensei?" Towa comes up to her.
"I was wondering if you'd be interested in joining the track and field team?" The teacher asks her eagerly.
Towa shakes her head. "I'm honored to be added to the team. But I have other things I need to take care. Maybe some other time." She walks away.
The teacher seems upset but let's it go. "Oh well, it was worth a try." She walks away back into her office.
After gym, Setsuna is in the music room with her violin and other musical students with various instruments. "Ok, We're going to begin at the top where Setsuna begins the piece." The music teacher said to the group.
Once with his baton, Setsuna begins to play the piece as a solo. 'All because father doesn't approve my skills.' She said in her head as she remains focus on the piece.
"Oh Sestuna, I cannot find any other musician in this school who is as skilled as you. Would like to be in the Violin Showdown." The teacher asks as the other students leave the room.
"What is it?" Setsuna asks him. "The event takes place at the opera house in Tokyo and was hoping that you'd like to participate in it."
Setsuna paused for a moment. "I would but I'm booked up until I'm free." She excuses herself and leaves the room.
The rest of the afternoon, the girls have been asks to be part of certain events, but they know fully well that they have to be ready whenever their fathers permit them to resume the mission. They would die just to be in those groups, but that would pretty much distract them from the mission.
The twins make it home safe and sound.
"I honestly don't know why they keep on telling us to join." Towa groans as she goes into the kitchen to get something to drink.
"Join what, Towa?" Rin asks her curious as she enters the kitchen through the sliding doors that leads into her garden.
"The gym teacher wanted me to join the track and field." Towa answers her honestly.
"Then why didn't you do it? You have every right to be on the team. You did so in the last school, so why not this one?" Rin asks as she puts the vegetables into a strainer and rinses them.
"Isn't it obvious. I want to but I can't because father doesn't want the mission to interfere with my activities."
Rin nods. "I see. For now, he has put the mission on hold."
"Yeah, but there's no telling when he'll let us resume the mission. It's too risky." Towa reasons.
"I know how you feel, Towa. You want to be normal despite being a half demon. But don't let that fact be the source of your problem." Rin said wisely. "Anyway, where's Setsuna?" Towa turns to the spot she entered the kitchen.
"No clue. I'll go look for her." Towa leaves the kitchen to go look for her twin.
Sestuna is in the middle of Rin's Garden, taking in the relaxing fragrances of the plants. Even though the plants calm her down and yet makes her feel at ease, her violin is second to none. As such she turns to the case by her side while sitting in the little gazebo that was built in the back of the large garden, she kind of feel at peace for once. Without wasting a second, she begins playing the familiar tune that she knows by heart.
Towa is about to call for her twin until she hears the music. She smiles, knowing fully well that Setsuna is playing the music just to blow off steam she might not know that she has. She walks out of the garden's pathway to spot her playing as beautiful as before. She wants to ask her something but decides to let her continue on until the end of the piece. It doesn't take long for Setsuna to finish the piece as she places the violin carefully into its case.
"Hey sis. What's going on?" She asks Towa as the older twin enters the gazebo. "I was going to ask if you feel like to play your violin for that contest that your music teacher told you about." She said the obvious.
Setsuna scowls a little. "I know that the music doesn't want anyone else but me to enter, but the mission could resume if we're not prepared." Towa takes hold of her sister's shoulder. "I know how you feel. I'm the same way. You know how much I want to run, and the gym teacher wants me to join the team. But it's too risky to do it." Little do any of the twins know is that miniature camera is eavesdropping their conversation.
Sesshomaru is in his office listening in to his daughters. "Why can't father let us do these things? We enjoy them." Setsuna speaks first.
Sesshomaru can tell that they really want to do those things they love the most. But because of the mission on hold, he cannot risky that.
"Care to explain why you're eavesdropping on our daughters?" Rin asks in a disapproval expression to him.
"Hn, you know why a father has to keep a close eye on their offsprings. They like to get into trouble without realizing it." He tries excuse himself.
Rin comes to the front of his desk, slamming her hands onto the wood as hard as she could to get his attention. Though he doesn't seem fazed by her outburst. "Look, I'm too fond of being a helicopter parent, but they need to do those things without us keeping an eye on them!" She yells at him.
"I'm not going to be looking out for them. They need to take care of themselves. We cannot interfere with that." He said back to her.
"Why can't you show any compassion on their activities? I'm proud of what they like to do. Why can't you?" Rin narrows her wooden eyes at him in a fearful way.
"I never showed any such emotion to anyone." He honestly answers the big question. Rin has just had it.
SLAP
Never in his life has Sesshomaru been slapped by a human, let alone his wife. "Now I know at this point that you will never do such a thing. All I want is for you to show the compassion. It would mean everything for them."
As such she leaves the office, slamming the door hard. Even though he doesn't show it, Sesshomaru has never been so intimidated by his own wife before. 'I'll have to do. I know it's never been my forte.' He though to himself.
